As a kid, I always found it weird (and kinda scary) that Moses could throw a stick on the ground and have it turn into a snake and also turn an entire river into blood by pointing said stick at it, but a child playing with a toy character that has make-believe magical powers totally upsets the creator of the entire universe, according to them.

I can't help but see the reality of how this would go. When she asked the little boy, "Do you really want to play with a toy that Jehovah hates?" The kid would be thinking, "Yes I want to play with it, but I can already see where this is going and you are going to take the toy away from me, so I might as well go along with you so that you don't go on about it for hours." Then the child that really did want to play with that toy and have an imagination, is forced into lying to placate the parent. All they have done is make their kid unhappy and a liar.
Why can't they just help their kids understand what is fantasy and what is real? After all the whole religion is about a fairy tale that that is so wholesome that these people just can't wait for a magical moment when God will commit the biggest genocide ever known and then they can everyones stuff too. They can not even see how evil that sounds when it's broken down.

It is a play on a person's psyche & fears, just like how the bible is also a play on a person's psyche & fears. Thank you again Wally for another great video! So sorry that you have to go through the shunning. Hopefully one day some of your relatives & immediate family will wake up. Thank you, Wally for sharing your story.

In the fifties when I was growing up a strict bound-for-hell Catholic little child, we grew up with the Three Stooges! No one was as violent as the Three Stooges and yet none of us kids who used to play outside at those times, ever went around yielding hammers or poking our fingers into eyes! We PLAYED!!! As strict as Catholicism was with crucifixion facts and hell for eating a hunk of hotdog on a Friday, none of us were prevented from free play from Cowboys and Indians to dinosaurs of the past to Army guys to the Three Stooges and the Rifleman! We played the magic of Tinkerbell too! Shit, if we were going to go to hell for not putting our allowances in the Pope’s Poor Envelopes, we might as well play-act as if there was no tomorrow! Oh adults, adults. Think what you’re doing to the next generation. Cryin’ out loud. Grow up, people.

So Sparlock is a bear in the new cartoon? In the old cartoon he just looked like a standard human wizard with a white beard. Did the animators misunderstand their old animation, or can Sparlock transform himself into a bear? If that's the case, then there's some interesting lore going on behind the scenes. A warrior wizard that can turn himself into a bear sounds badass, even if it is for kids. Can we get a real, legit Sparlock movie going?

    Sindbad (Spiritism, posession, fantasy creatures)
    Freaky Friday (Curses)
Toy Story 1,2,3,4 (You could technically argue posession)
Gnomeo and Juliet (Could technically argue posession)
Barbie franchise (Too many movies and elements to list here)
    Grey area:
Bedknobs and Broomsticks (I didn't know any other witness kids watch this one, so I didn't know where to put it. Enchantments, spells, possession)
Pirates of the Caribbean (Curses, immortality, fantasy creates, necromancy, voodoo, spirits/ghosts)
Chronicles of Narnia 1,2,3 (Fantasy creatures, curses, shape-shifting, spells, spirits)
Lord of the Rings 1,2,3 (Fantasy creates, spells, telepathy, spirits/ghosts, posession, I'll count the wizards' staffs as wands)
The Hobbit (Fantasy creatures, spells, wands)
    Golden compass (Fantasy creatures)
    Monster House (Posession)
There are probably more that I missed, but these were the ones I could think off on the top of my head. Just look at all the magical elements JW kids are allowed to consume as long as it's depicted with bright colours and not depicting realistic looking humans, but suddenly when the cinematography is darker and real humans are filmed, then all of a sudden, it's evil. I remember about a decade ago, when I was between 11 and 13, an elder was trying to make some or other point and as part of it said, "I mean, we just have to look at Harry Potter. We know that's full of all sorts of demons." Even at that time I thought to myself, "Do we? No one here has ever watched the movies. We only know what we've heard from others; who probably haven't watched the films either." After finally watching the films earlier this year, I couldn't find a single new magical element that I haven't already seen in a Disney movie.

Goliath was a giant pickle. We never actually see the lions that Daniel is thrown to. We don't see Shadrach, Meshack, and Abendego actually freaking out at the realization that they may be burned alive in the furnace. Actually, I don’t think that the Society included a continuity error between the two episodes. Remember that in the earlier episode, the mother was asking leading questions. If we combine that with the immersion episode, she knew what Caleb was holding in his hand. Consequently, she was feigning ignorance as to the identity of the character in an effort to get Caleb to accept the Society’s party line on the matter.
As a side matter, what is that moustache on the grandfather’s face about? I’ll just say that it looks like something associated with a certain part of the film industry-a part which even the Society has been known to condemn on occasion. It says more about him and how the Society handles certain matters than it does about anything else. It also reveals a degree of tone deafness and lack of self-awareness beyond what I thought even the Society could muster.

I remember youthful immersion being more organic at least in the early nineties. I was fourteen as well when I was immersed April 1994. There were others around my age in my congregation and throughout my circuit immersed during that period. But there was never any pressure applied. Of course, I think that, for us, our parents were involved with the Society, if not in the run up to 1975, certainly during the aftermath and backlash. (Incidentally, as I type this, I’m struck with the realization that I’m between only five and seven years younger now than they were in the run up to my immersion. (Dad died January 1994 at fifty (of his third heart attack) and Mom was forty-eight at the time. (She made it to sixty-nine.) I’m currently forty-three.)
In retrospect, I think that our parents realized that, with everything taking place-both within the organization and without-at the time and during the immediate preceding years, my friends and I were already under enough pressure. Why take the approach made infamous in recent years by Tony Morris and bribe and blackmail us into a decision each of us either had made or would make organically? Having left the Society in 2016, I shudder to think that some of my peers, however, may be taking the Morris route with regard to their children. That is a prospect we all would have found unconscionable thirty years ago.

wally i've never commented at you before but i've been watching your stuff and thinking about you a lot lately and also you said something i want to lightly push back on and also i'm a little bit buzzed on cold meds so let's go
    1) you're so cute and stylish and i love how you present and carry yourself. i'm really proud of you that you seem to be feeling more sure of yourself about your content and i hope you're proud of yourself too, bc i'm pretty sure the reason you're feeling more confident is because you've been putting in work and seeing rewards in terms of your end products being better and better.
    2) i'm not judging you for your hot take about people who say kids look like their parents. but i want to gently push back by giving you another potential perspective. in my experience people who make this observation aren't commenting because they think the person they're speaking to doesn't know any better, but because observing this fact out loud can be a cultural way to pay you and/or your parent a compliment. it's sort of like saying, 'oh, you remind me so much of this person i like and enjoy, so that makes me want to instinctively like you too'. i think it's kind of sweet when you view it that way.
BUT, also, ultimately i think i come down on your side because i don't think people should go around assuming people have a good relationship with their parents and want to be compared to them. to me it's something you say to somebody you know well. so maybe the strength of your feelings is more related to feeling like your boundaries are being crossed than just finding it annoying? not to tell you your business, just some good natured passing speculation
    3) the more you find who you are and honor yourself the better i like you tbh. i find your openness really admirable and i think it's great you're out here showing people how fulfilling it can be to just embrace your strengths and enjoy being yourself. i think a lot of people who have left rigidly organized high control groups like jw find ourselves struggling with the lack of structure in our lives, so i think it's specifically important that you're modelling and being transparent with us about ways you're continuing to do things like personal study in a way that actually benefits you, your family (your found family, ykwim) and your community instead of a luxury SUV's worth of real estate moguls.
    4) not to be rude but you're really important. even if you were too sick or tired or sad to do all the work you're doing now, even if you had to stop your insider reporting for your mental health, even if you had to stop vids altogether, you would still be really important and worthwhile. you just being here on earth and taking care of yourself and participating in life benefits the people around you. you change the lives of the people you touch in ways you can't see or imagine. we're so connected, in real and material and not just 'spiritual' ways. so please remember that when you're trying to internalize the very true fact that your worth comes from the contents of your mind and metaphorical heart, not from what you can do for people. and that your worth is not something that's affected when people treat you poorly, even though it can feel that way.
    5) i hope you're doing something nice for yourself to recover from the convention. stress burns a lot of energy so make sure you're letting yourself have extra food and sleep if you need it.
    6) idk if you still need to hear this but our star system is called the solar system bc our sun is named sol. other star systems are just called star systems.
    7) i appreciate you!

“Jehovah is a God exacting exclusive devotion and taking vengeance; Jehovah is taking vengeance and is disposed to rage. Jehovah is taking vengeance against his adversaries, and he is resentful toward his enemies.”-Nahum 1:2, NW 1984 edition.
This is the deity for whom eight million people, according to the official figures of the Society (but the actual number is far lower), profess to be witnesses. Is it really any surprise, therefore, that the Society counsels those whose marriage mates are similarly “disposed to rage” to remain in such unions? Incidentally, even the Society realized that the phrase “disposed to rage” doesn’t ‘play well in Peoria’, to borrow a political expression. Consequently, in the 2013 edition, it was changed to the less accurate but equally sickening “ready to express his wrath”.
At brass tacks, is it really any wonder that Yahweh (Jehovah) is rightly considered the most violent, vindictive, unpleasant and disturbed character in all of fiction? Is it any wonder that the Society teaches that the most important doctrine is the vindication of Jehovah’s name?

As an adopted person from a family with a history of adoption, it does often surprise me when people look just like their parents, because my sibs and I don't look anything like each other or the rest of our family. we don't have any shared traits, we were adopted from different bio parents. Still, I get that I'm the exception, I can also see why you'd expect most people to be used to the way people look like their parents

To be fair, the main reason religious folk see magic as evil is basically that magic is basically defined in the bible as "power derived from demons." Meaning that they hear wizard powers being called magic and assume it's the same thing.
It isn't the same though, with the "magic" in most fiction being depicted more like just *power,* energy, or some fancy resource. With its harvesting and manipulation being no different to that of any other resource, such as fossil fuels, wood, or minerals.
I, as a Christian, personally think it shouldn't be called magic, considering the bible version of the word. But I can say with confidence that it is fine in concept.

8:50 Oh yeah, I remember this video. I find it messed up the mom made him throw a toy that he borrowed from a friend. So in my headcanon, the aftermath is that he goes to school, and the kid gets mad and beats up Caleb.

I don’t blame Caleb though. Caleb is obviously brainwashed by his mother. My headcanon would be that the kid asks Caleb what happened to the toy and Caleb explains to his friend that his mom made him throw it away.

The pictures in that book were scary lol....as a kid I knew it back to front lol.
This modern take is so cringe.
I've been shunned from family members for over a decade....funny how they will run away from you in public like a grocery store....but at a funeral they will talk to you like normal....it's hard not to resent them as individuals, since they are following "direction"

I was watching an ex-mormon describe getting baptized at 8 (the age all mormon kids are baptized). She said, at 8 yrs old, she was still questioning in her mind whether santa claus was real or not. I joined WT as an adult and did not grow up in it, but I can imagine some young JW kids have the "is santa a real?" question somewhere deep in their little minds (never a question to be brought up with anyone they know). They learn at a young age to keep their individual, unapproved thoughts or feelings to themselves, lest they fall prey to "independent thinking". So psychologically damaging.

  • @billjones261

They defiantly do coerce their children to get baptized , particularly with young teenagers and that is the age most JWS do get baptized. Fear once again get utilized to coerce these impressionable youth. 😳
Armageddon is just around the corner kids so you want to get baptized to show your loyalty to Jehovah and his son Jesus Christ. The only way to do this is make a vow of loyalty to us the GB members of the Watchtower Corporation because we are Jehovah's loyal obedient servants the Faithful Slave. Obeying us is the only way to survive Armageddon, that's why when you get baptized you also make a vow of loyalty to us too. 😳

I was raised JW. My younger cousins were baptized before 15. Everyone in the family continued to ask me, "Why don't you get baptized?" As a 12 Year old I told them,"What happens when I grow up and question the religion?"
My reality was always an issue with them. Oh, by the way my cousins quit the JWS. I was the for real person since 12 years old
