You are obviously uneducated in musical evolvement Listen to Wes Montgomery's octave leads, who inspired Jimi Hendrix ( Third Stone from the Sun) and also Alvin Lee. ( I can't keep from crying) who inspired Stevie Ray. Listen to Jimi's Electric Ladyland. Even Bob Dylan, tips his hat to Jimi, by in live performance playing his own song in Jimi's intro re-arrangement. Jimi and Stevie Ray were promoted to God's band now. Jimi"s fantastic electric guitarism blew away Clapton, Beck, Townshend, and all that followed. There is a video of Jimi playing " Voodoo Child" in 1966, while the top # 1 hit in America was the Beach Boys " Help me Rhonda". Jimi is the dude that changed it all from pop to way beyond. Never forget that.

I used to have to spend weekends with my dad, who was divorced from my mom. I was at his house one miserable weekend, when I stayed up late and by chance, caught this performance on TV. Just an amazing memory, one that elevated me out of my miserable childhood. Was just a kid, and didn’t know who he was, but was so mesmerized by his performance. Had no clue that another human could be so talented at something. Still to this day, I will watch this performance, and am brought back to the amazement I felt as a kid. No matter whether you like his music or not, you can’t do anything but appreciate the obscene amount of talent he had. Sometimes humans take an art form and elevate it to something godlike. Truly a sight to behold.
One night my infant son was unsettled in his bed. I got him up just as this show started. We both sat on the floor and watched for the entire hour. Whatever it was Stevie had, it was able to reach everybody on their own terms. It seems he put everything he had into every note that he played.
Ferocious. Stevie's playing that night was on a level that was almost superhuman - even for him. His fucking tone, just unbelievable - even for him. And the command he had of the stage was incredible - even for him. It is rare when a musician is both a master showman, and a master artist. There may never be another to match Stevie. Ferocious.
@@angelsinthearchitecture7106 ...while I love the El Macombo session, this was him, clean and sober, at his peak, and at home in Texas. Much cleaner and more fire for the home folks. This Austin City limits show he did in 1989 was otherwordly. He was on another plane that night. His playing just tears right through you. Your left shaking and crying at the same time. It's hard to believe another human can play like that. We are so so blessed to have his music. If I live to be a hundred, I'll never get over his death. God bless you all who love him as much as I do.
The original airing of this did not televise this song. In order of appearance in the original airing was: House Is Rockin Leave My Little Girl Alone Cold Shot Crossfire Riviera Paradise Little Thing(Duet with WC Clark) Take Me to the River(everyone) Those listed is songs originally aired with SRV. Keep in mind, it was for WC Clark’s 50th birthday celebration
There will never be anyone, and I mean anyone, that can play with this type of swagger again. This is something you can only achieve once in a lifetime. He played with such accuracy and groove that you can only breed from the great state of Texas. Long live the name of Stevie Ray Vaughan.
🤣🤣🤣 That "Sweet baby Jesus" line made me LOL. My father-in-law is from Kentucky and this morning we were on the phone talking about country sayings. I'll have to share this one with him, quicker than a cat on a hot tin roof.
This guy plays better live than he does with perfect studio tracks. This guy's music is so good live, I don't want to hear his studio tracks. Best guitarist who ever lived.
There will be countless Stevie tribute guitarist for the years to come, and some may do his style justice, or even play his songs note for note, but I don't believe anyone will EVER come close to playing with the same raw expression, intensity, aggression, passion, and electrifying energy that emanated from his body. That's just something you just cant fake or imitate. There will never be another Stevie. He was beyond a guitarist, He was a fucking force of nature, and blues prophet that the world may never see the likes of again.
@@thedukeofearl79 that's so true. people don't realize how much thick those strings are. i've been playing on 12s for months and still i can't imagine playing more than a couple of srv songs on them. can only imagine what 13s can do to your fingers

Early Cuyler I would argue that you can’t recreate his sound. His tone is in the hands! I truly believe that. That’s his signature sound that only he can make. Everything else I’m with you.
Good luck on that....albert King is pretty close but the sound no....the feel no. Since his passing I've heard no one come even close. Kids his ability to communicate with his instrument was his super power. Might as well give him a cape.😸😸🍻
For those of you who say it’s impossible to recreate SRV’s tone, you should check out Matthew Scott’s videos like “That Voodoo Chile Tone” and others, he’s damn near exactly the same.
This is so insanely powerful, the guitar sound, the voice, the focus, the savage sequence of notes, and the brutality how he attacks them with those huge hands. There are no words to describe the feeling you get out of this. if there was no videos to prove this kind of playing, no one would believe that someone could play like this. SRV, we will be missing you for centuries.
This performance is just absolutely amazing, tone, presence, feel, dexterity, passion, just an absolute master at what he did, this is my personal favourite and what a solo, wow. R.I.P Mr Vaughan.
Of all versions of tightrope he’s done, this one speaks to me. It’s his best to me. The body language of a master guitarist who can’t wait to tear into his solo.
DANG, that guitar solo that kicks off around 1:18 is just pure Stevie magic. Stevie always said he played guitar like he was breaking out of jail. He wasn't kidding.
Correct me if I'm wrong at all, but that "breaking out of jail" line might have something to do with this: Stevie's supposed to have said he decided to really _do_ something with his life that day he was working at a janky fast food joint, diner, or restaurant. He fell into a tub of cooking grease. He was taking trash out or something, and was told to stand on a piece of wood over a 55 gallon drum full. Well, that board or whatever it was broke under his weight, and he fell into the drum of used cooking oil. So his supervisor or whoever comes out and starts yelling at him over it instead of being concerned if Stevie's hurt or anything. Stevie eventually thinks something like "There's gotta be a better life for me than _this"_ and he ends up being the famous guitar man we all know. I might have a few details off here, but that's the general direction that I read.
@@101Volts, sounds like the same thing I've heard Stevie say in interviews. He tried to scrape together cash as a kid by working at a Dairy Mart in Dallas, but his experience of being abused there made him realize he didn't want to work "for the man." Better to follow his muse and if he starved, he starved. He went through some lean years, but he stuck with it.
Well that totally diminishes the dedication to his craft, hundreds of thousands of hours practicing, studying his heroes, immersing himself in an artform, a gruelling life on the road. He just got zapped by God and, Hey Presto! Virtuoso! No, he did it all himself with a "little" help from his friends, and that is a far better story.
Stevie gettin' as savage as ever here. But man, Tommy Shannon layin' it DOWN during that second solo. No matter who you are, you are only as good as your rhythm section.
You can teach someone to play the guitar, but you can’t teach him how to feel it. It’s either there or it’s not Stevie was blessed with both. You are missed❤️
He didn’t just play the guitar….he became the guitar. Music was his soul, and each time he performed you can see him being in a sort of trance where everything and everyone disappeared. It was just him, a guitar and…brilliance. ❤️
You can tell me you like other artists more- that's cool. You can tell me you prefer other SRV tunes- I dig. You can tell me he's done more melodic solos or deeper emotional grooves or whatever- I love you for it. However- for me- this is the 5 minutes in all of eternity, for which the guitar was invented. All stringed instruments throughout history envy the Strat we see here as it reaches the pinnacle of musical magic in the hands of the ultimate wizard.
Had the pleasure of meeting Stevie a couple of times. Once in a large club (The Moonshadow) in Atlanta, once at Lakewood Amphitheater (also Atlanta) about 3 weeks before he got killed. Such a nice, humble cat both times. God, he was fantastic! Cried for 2 days after that helo crash. Still miss him to this day.
@@richardallen1253 perhaps he could "play" it but wouldn't give it justice. Totally different style than SRV, that's why I said Gary Clark Jr. He can recreate that sound better than any other guitarist alive in my opinion
I hear you!! I felt that groove!! The people on the opposite side of the planet felt that groove!! Dead people felt that groove!! Life forms in other galaxies and solar systems felt that groove!! God (whatever that means, exactly) felt that groove!! Did I miss anyone?? LOL. Oh yeah... inanimate objects (like walls and guitars, for example) felt that groove!! I think that covers it. :OD
Lookin' sleek, healthy, happy. And playing smooth, easy, perfect. I'm so glad he had a few really good years at the end. Gone but never forgotten, sweet Texas bluesman. RIP
As a guitar player I must say. When SRV goes into solo mode he looks away from his guitar. 99.99% of guitar players look at their guitar when they come to a solo. I'm not a religious person, but every time SRV comes to a solo, his eyes roll back and he just jams. He may have actually been a god.
There are lots of fast guitarists, but no one has his feel, his soul, his touch, his cool, his ... heck, I don't know what it is, but he is the best ever.
Some people just have "the stuff", and SRV is definitely one of those. His rhythm, technique, tone, everything guitar-wise is amazing. And I think he probably hated his singing more than anyone ever could. It's not bad at all tho. Then his actual story and history of alcoholism and drugs... He's an absolute legend. I've had the honor of hugging his statue in Austin.
I was friends with Stevie Ray in the beginning until the end after rehab it was a blessing to see him come back and perform and write the way he did God I miss him rest in peace my friend your music will never be equaled DHS ROY
I still remember some 30+ years later when I heard the top of the hour news on the FM radio station on the graveyard shift I was working. I was up in the parts room grabbing O rings & whatnot, 'Blues musician & guitarist Stevie Ray Vaughan was killed in a helicopter accident...' I felt like I had been gut punched. A lot of his music helped me get thru a lot of stuff. 'Tightrope' is one of those tunes that helped me.
For all his talent, I think you touched on the piece that impresses me the most. His licks and tone are amazing of course, but his timing is simply incredible. He makes it seem so easy too-the sign of a true master!

I couldn't agree more
One night my infant son was unsettled in his bed. I got him up just as this show started. We both sat on the floor and watched for the entire hour. Whatever it was Stevie had, it was able to reach everybody on their own terms. It seems he put everything he had into every note that he played.
@@robertstone1409 Stevie would have loved this.
It's your life..make the best of it...
It's your life...make the most of it.
Ferocious. Stevie's playing that night was on a level that was almost superhuman - even for him. His fucking tone, just unbelievable - even for him. And the command he had of the stage was incredible - even for him. It is rare when a musician is both a master showman, and a master artist. There may never be another to match Stevie. Ferocious.
If this Austin City Limits performance wasn't his best ever, it was most certainly the best one ever caught on film.
@@cmccarthy Live at El macombo was off the charts. I Dare to say better than this.

@@angelsinthearchitecture7106 ...while I love the El Macombo session, this was him, clean and sober, at his peak, and at home in Texas. Much cleaner and more fire for the home folks. He was a proud Texan, and he played ACL like he had something to prove. Absolutely on fire...
(Just my humble opinion...)
Ain't nobody getting off this God damn ride until Stevie says you can go!! And I am absolutely good with that! As long as you need me friend!! Wooow!
The G.O.A.T. , sooooo sad he died !!!!!!
Another Legend gone but his music live forever RIP SRV❤. 🦅

@@timhoovermusicman Same. Just gotten off work and heard the news on the radio. Sat in the car several minutes to try to process before I went into the house.
I was gutted. It was another step down for the world.
Well said, couldn't have said it better myself!!! I have been listening to him for forty years and still not tired of his music
Gotta love a guy who treats strangers as friends. He was an old soul....
That austin city limits show was on about 3 months ago. I taped it.
my two favorite shows ever were held here #1 SRV #2 EJ
The original airing of this did not televise this song. In order of appearance in the original airing was:
House Is Rockin
Leave My Little Girl Alone
Cold Shot
Crossfire
Riviera Paradise
Little Thing(Duet with WC Clark)
Take Me to the River(everyone)
Those listed is songs originally aired with SRV.
Right on!
Stu Mackenzie has quite a bit of swagger
Sweet baby Jesus on a motorbike -
that final solo tho. Step back kids & educate yourself something. ✋🏽😔
🤣🤣🤣 That "Sweet baby Jesus" line made me LOL. My father-in-law is from Kentucky and this morning we were on the phone talking about country sayings. I'll have to share this one with him, quicker than a cat on a hot tin roof.
@@livelovelogic777 Quicker than a 'minner' can swim a dipper! 😂
This has to be SRV's zenith. NEVER BETTER. Just simply freaking mind-blowing with TWO solos. What a player. My fave of all time.
Great comment. He was absolutely amazing
You are right he felt every note he played. Never be another stevie ray vaughan. Never
We will never.
Let's not forget how tight Chris Layton and Tommy Shannon (Double Trouble) are too. That in the pocket groove is out of this world.... just sublime.
If this song doesn’t make you get up and groove I just don’t think you’re conscious. Hot damn What a badass!
When I listen to SRV and Double Trouble so do my neighbors!
You can't help it. Blastin dancin screamin. SRV that's when life is good
That a boy Robert!! Awesome!

Mine too. Sometimes they love it so much they call the police to come and listen also!
Thats the only way to hear Stevie's music- loud as hell!
"you can play with the same srv intensity, but for only about 20 seconds, then your arm cramps up, and you got nothing" - John Mayer
Even more so on 13s

You can recreate the sound, you can recreate the licks, but you can never recreate the stage presence of a legend!
Or the Soul he was one of a kind an sorely missed
For those of you who say it’s impossible to recreate SRV’s tone, you should check out Matthew Scott’s videos like “That Voodoo Chile Tone” and others, he’s damn near exactly the same.
Well said
This is so insanely powerful, the guitar sound, the voice, the focus, the savage sequence of notes, and the brutality how he attacks them with those huge hands.
Beyond words how great that performance was
Which solo?!? Both are incredible, I absolutely love this live version
Of all versions of tightrope he’s done, this one speaks to me. It’s his best to me. The body language of a master guitarist who can’t wait to tear into his solo.
Haley here I'm 65 and I've been scence day one Stevie Ray is # 1 in my book, love it
DANG, that guitar solo that kicks off around 1:18 is just pure Stevie magic. Stevie always said he played guitar like he was breaking out of jail. He wasn't kidding.
Correct me if I'm wrong at all, but that "breaking out of jail" line might have something to do with this:
Stevie's supposed to have said he decided to really _do_ something with his life that day he was working at a janky fast food joint, diner, or restaurant.

Yes he made a deal with God at the crossroad. Miss him.
Michael Littlewood he didn’t but ok
Once in a generation talent
Well that totally diminishes the dedication to his craft, hundreds of thousands of hours practicing, studying his heroes, immersing himself in an artform, a gruelling life on the road. He just got zapped by God and, Hey Presto! Virtuoso! No, he did it all himself with a "little" help from his friends, and that is a far better story.
I agree and I don't even believe in god..
Stevie gettin' as savage as ever here. But man, Tommy Shannon layin' it DOWN during that second solo. No matter who you are, you are only as good as your rhythm section.

Welcome to a great genre!
You can teach someone to play the guitar, but you can’t teach him how to feel it. It’s either there or it’s not Stevie was blessed with both. You are missed❤️
Stevie could make the guitar cry, laugh, scream, weep, howl and everything in between. Absolutely stunning ❤
you bett!
He didn’t just play the guitar….he became the guitar. Music was his soul, and each time he performed you can see him being in a sort of trance where everything and everyone disappeared. It was just him, a guitar and…brilliance. ❤️
True, he had mastery over his instrument and it was amazing to see.
Stevie's war cry at about 1:20 ....awesome
Joshua Munkeby Lolol I made that Exact same comment about the “war cry” lolol
The main solos is no doubt brilliant but the outro solo is from another world.
Gives me goosebumps. He knows he's about to unleash some unearthly, pick of destiny shit.

2:04 is the killer "neck cutter" lick... SRV is a total warrior to this day...
1:20 when he lets put that primal scream you know he's gonna go ballistic
Show me somebody alive today that could even play that dam song. Steve was magical.
Gary Clark Jr, but obviously not as good
Billy Gibbons...
@@richardallen1253 perhaps he could "play" it but wouldn't give it justice. Totally different style than SRV, that's why I said Gary Clark Jr. He can recreate that sound better than any other guitarist alive in my opinion

Clapton also said he had to think where his solos were going! Unlike stevie where he knew exactly what was going to play.
Lookin' sleek, healthy, happy. And playing smooth, easy, perfect. I'm so glad he had a few really good years at the end. Gone but never forgotten, sweet Texas bluesman. RIP
Stevie is so damn good, it never ceases to amaze me the flow out of his hands directly into that guitar. Truly the greatest to have ever done it!
There is no ''best ever''.

You can feel his mood by listening to the „Ahhhh“ before his solo starts
