My Dad past away in 2014, I remembered asking my dad as a teenager “ Dad, who’s your favourite band or singer?” He said without even thinking about it, Stevie Ray Vaughan. Of course I never heard of him and 50 cent just came out and I didn’t care at 15. Unfortunately I never got to share the love for SRV that I now have, but it’s all because of him why I even looked up who this Stevie guy was. Nobody was cooler looking then this guy! The boots and the hat are hitters! Unmatched on the guitar, I’m sorry folks, I know it’s a controversial topic but I’m here to say it anyway. He had the voice, he had the guitar and he had the tunes, like a Ray Charles level of hero.
I was 16 going on 17 when he passed. I now live about 20 minutes from Alpine Valley Music Theatre, East Troy. Watching him play, one would think his guitar was an appendage he was born with.
+Krizzly listened to this 20 times before i noticed the string XD Thought he did it for show :P. The switch is not that hard actually. Continuing with only 5 strings however and still sound bad ass.. That's seriously impressive.
+Odd Eleven Agreed, a tremolo bridge by its nature throws whatever 5 strings remain way the hell out of tune when one breaks, and until the switch is at hand he is wringing out an acceptable pitch somehow.....
Swamp T. I'm not that experienced of an guitar player. I mostly just strum rhythm and do something that barely pass a singing to myself XD But does it change that much just from one string breaking? From what i have experienced just pushing the strings harder/softer is enough to correct whenever they are in tune but not really 100%. I usually just stop tho and tune my guitar XD I'm not SRV and my finger are not magical :P hehe.
+Odd Eleven actually yeah... you notice he had to change everything he was doing to work around not having that one string. so really for him not having that one string isn't that big of deal but for the average Joe. without that one string we're pretty much out of commission.
Anyone that has ever popped a guitar string knows what it does to the sound of your guitar. The fact that Stevie was able to keep playing as if nothing had happened, with no noticeable change in tone - I mean...I don't even know what to say. We should all be so lucky to be as passionate about anything as Stevie was for the blues. Also, Rene Martinez is a fucking badass
I believe reason why the guitar didn’t go out of tune when the string broke was because his trem was backed up against the body instead of floating. From what I’ve read the number one and Lenny have their terms back again the body while the other strats were floating but correct me if I’m wrong.
Well, it was noticable if you're paying attention, losing one sting messes up the tension and therefore tuning of the whole guitar, but he did some creative bends and tricks and pulled it off pretty damn well. Most other musicians couldn't do what he did
Reese Wynans is a killer keyboardist! Stevie Ray said that after Reese joined the band, they went from Double Trouble to a Triple Threat. The whole group was tight.

But he definitely only strums the high strings such as B or E..and on top of that his left hand wasn't even in position yet to play those notes
@@GageDrums I thought the same thing, so I watched it over and over in slow motion. This is a clip that every Guitar Tech on road round world for year's will come back to reminisces of what this man did at Austin City Limits looks like cracking gig 👌
SRV has taught us so much about what guitar can be or mean to someone. I know for sure he is the best blues guitarist (and best ever in my book) and that he deserves so much more respect and credit. I may be 13, and only started playing guitar 2/3 months ago, but I am on a mission to help rediscover the way SRV influenced people of the last generation and my generation. I plan to make blues a dominant genre again.
I've been playing guitar 19 years. Just now am I understanding the power that Stevie Ray Vaughan has had on my guitar playing. It's truly a beautiful thing. So sad that he's gone but he left plenty of material to practice. RIP STEVIE
Hey man I started at the same age and have been playing as long as you have and I’m glad I’m not the only one that feels like you do glad I could share something like that with someone else
I was going to say that I was PISSED when Stevie passed but this song, the lyrics, the playing and how Stevie's crew member switched that guitar out without any of them missing a beat was pure showmanship! Wow...wish Stevie was still lightening it up today! RIP brother!
The way he plays guitar is just amazing. While he's playing he effortlessly reaches down and adjusts his guitar knobs for the exact sounds he wants from his guitar. It's amazing he does it without looking and all from feel.
Stevie's control of everything is amazing. Just a glance at the tech and made a change Nascar pit crews would dream of. Dude was such a savage. RIP the 🐐
I like the way he checks that all his controls on his guitar are in the right position at 1:00, after these big strokes even not looking at it! And all of it while singing! Just insane guy!
@@ohno5212 doubt it was an accident, he was constantly changing his pickups mid-solo.. when you watch for it its nuts, he changes his pickup selector all the time throughout the song
It's always dialng them max. I know myself I rarely have anything other than max on any guitar .. I hear the theory the pots should just be removed, maybe that's true? I do use the volumes but tone ... not really.
@@FallNorth Yeah, I use the tone knob just when I try to mimic for example B. B. King's tone which I don't do it that often, so it is same for me. The volume pot has much more value for me 'cause I play rhythm with it dialed back quite a bit and I can boost myself both volumewise and tonewise for solo.
SRV is a musical DR. He sure patched up the solo nicely and even got the crowd to clap cause the transition was smoother than the butter you spread on your toast.
Be thankful folks, for not only we had the opportunity to watch this brilliant performance by one of the greatest guitar player of all time, but we also witnessed one of the finest performances by a roadie ever caught on tape.
At first I didn't realize what Eric Clapton was talking about during the interview, when I tried to play it back it turned out to be true what he said: SRV never pauses when playing the guitar, never thinks about what he should play like and flows continuously RIP LEGEND
Guitar tech level 10, 1 nod from SRV was the equivalent of Dan Marino calling the fake spike to his WR with a single nod. A true master of his craft. Thank you SRV and Double Trouble
I was blessed enough to see him live right before his popularity blew up. To this day it's still the best performance I've ever seen. He played behind his head, behind his back. He switched from an acoustic to an electric guitar mid song without missing a beat. For me he is just the GOAT.

SRV unbelievable talent! I’m 72 and have loved him forever! This song makes me dance every single time 💃
Everyone commenting on how awesome is that smooth guitar switch but anyone commenting on how good is that song damn!
Right I feel bad I made a comment bout the change and not the song. I will pay for that.
@Lime Green Crocs inconcinnity
Great great blues band and vocal. Forever
Breaks a string, change guitars, doesn't miss a single note. Majestic.
that guitar switch tho, the bond between him and his crew is solid..
🎹 la playa , just a sec , he accents emphasis on this song , you search too austin city limits he phrase this song 2twice this live venue 😅 😢👍 great showmanship for that time period. 🔚 where It starts 🐍🎉 , cold shot too . last thing said .
He is definitely the GOAT!!!! So sad that he died so early in life.
Breaks a string, switches guitar and flawlessly stays on beat!? 🙇SRV you are the Master.
I will forever be astonished by that swift guitar change with absolutely brilliant teamwork and precision with his tech. Another legend gone far too soon!
AMEN! SRV and Rene were a wonderful team. Rene was SRV’s guitar tech.
Yes so true. Very grateful for the time he had and what he left us.💯%📀 THANKS SRV👼 you are missed! 👼
Yes...too soon.
I know most people are here for the guitar switch. But Stevie's rhythm playing from 1:20-2:10 while Reese is playing is out of this world!!
❤❤❤
Rene Martinez was every bit the star of that song, right next to Stevie. Seeing that absolutely flawless guitar change always makes me smile and never gets old.
I'm addicted to this video, I love this man. I can't believe how seamless that move went.
@@SherylJeffries87 Yes, and he knew where he left off on the other guitar and never missed a note.
I could watch this every day for the rest of my life and it would not get old, ever.. RIP Stevie we miss you so much!
I agree.
this is why stevie’s my favorite guitarist, how he swaps guitars and gets right back into the grove like it’s nothing is INSANE!!! left this world too early
2:35
Didn’t even miss a beat……this guy was an absolute legend……RIP
SRV is the one who turned me on to the blues.
THE GREAT SRV
THANK YOU!!!
@gregnormal55
I'm doing fair.
I've been a fan of SRV
For more than a decade.
@gregnormal55 I'm from Tennessee
Between this and the switch during Life Without You at Passaic, SRV has confirmed himself as the king of the quick switch.
As someone that works as FOH Guy an Stage Tech at a local independent music venue that holds a capacity 400, I have met seen an worked with some wonderful people bands wise but never in my life have I ever seen guitar tech do change as swiftly as Mr Martinez in this clip my god how smooth he is.
This is a clip that every Guitar Tech on road round world for year's will come back to reminisces of what this man did at Austin City Limits looks like cracking gig 👌
😎 Rivals all NASCAR pit crews ❗😎
Outstanding Guitar Tec, what a Boss ...not a beat missed, not a single fuck given... Miss you Stevie Ray!
2:00 me when my crush texts me
I thought that was gonna be a joke about how your crush is your little sister
@@captaincabbage1895 lmfao
Funny

Ha ha ha sahi khel gya bhai
SRV has taught us so much about what guitar can be or mean to someone. I know for sure he is the best blues guitarist (and best ever in my book) and that he deserves so much more respect and credit. I may be 13, and only started playing guitar 2/3 months ago, but I am on a mission to help rediscover the way SRV influenced people of the last generation and my generation. I plan to make blues a dominant genre again.
Good luck. You have our support.
I replied to a comment of yours a few minutes ago, not knowing you're probably 14 now. I love that music is in your soul young man. Keep it close!
Gary moore was always the best blues guitarists in my opinion
But srv is amazing too ❤
Far and above not only one of the greatest blues guitarist one of the greatest guitar players ever
Love the way he plays that trill and picks that open E string so effortlessly
1:33-1:36
Ok I can hear why everyone is nuts about SRV omg he is phenomenal
I was going to say that I was PISSED when Stevie passed but this song, the lyrics, the playing and how Stevie's crew member switched that guitar out without any of them missing a beat was pure showmanship! Wow...wish Stevie was still lightening it up today! RIP brother!
I’m 72 and I play this when my two sisters come for a visit! My Dad was a great piano player I love that part! SRV is phenomenal ❤
SRV was on FIRE that night and could have kept going for hours.
Definitely best Guitar player ever lived on planet earth. NO DISCUSSION
The way he plays guitar is just amazing. While he's playing he effortlessly reaches down and adjusts his guitar knobs for the exact sounds he wants from his guitar. It's amazing he does it without looking and all from feel.
That guitar swap though, smooth af.
He is nothing short of amazing if you don't love this man I feel sorry for tou
I'm a 67 year old granny..I listen to SRV every morning with my headphones on when I walk my dogs..especially this song, damn I freaking love him!
Stevie's control of everything is amazing. Just a glance at the tech and made a change Nascar pit crews would dream of. Dude was such a savage. RIP the 🐐
Piano player got skills too. Gotta get out to a concert. Music is better than almost anything else.
I like the way he checks that all his controls on his guitar are in the right position at 1:00, after these big strokes even not looking at it! And all of it while singing! Just insane guy!
Yeahhh
Thats cause he accidently switched the pickup few seconds before
@@ohno5212 doubt it was an accident, he was constantly changing his pickups mid-solo.. when you watch for it its nuts, he changes his pickup selector all the time throughout the song
Simply the best with fender stratocaster guitar
la strato de SRv...la strato es la mejor guitarra del mundo ( Fender)
Or the best with any guitar
@@riderk7007 nah man, there's always something magical about stratocaster
Do you from Gambia?
Lucky enough to see SRV twice, brilliant guitarist!!
SRV is a musical DR.
He sure patched up the solo nicely and even got the crowd to clap cause the transition was smoother than the butter you spread on your toast.
How BAD was he! My God, amazing. RIP SRV you are missed dear Sir.
Be thankful folks, for not only we had the opportunity to watch this brilliant performance by one of the greatest guitar player of all time, but we also witnessed one of the finest performances by a roadie ever caught on tape.
Hell yeah
Dude earned his pay that night. Lolz
Back when music was great! This man truly mastered his music and that damn guitar, holy shitttt! 💯
rest in piece my friend !!!! 25 years ago.....the world lost the one of greatest guitar player of all time. PERIOD !!
At first I didn't realize what Eric Clapton was talking about during the interview, when I tried to play it back it turned out to be true what he said: SRV never pauses when playing the guitar, never thinks about what he should play like and flows continuously
RIP LEGEND
The pianist was dynamite! SRV was just SRV - BLOODY GREAT!
2:55 Has to be the smoothest guitar switches ever done mid song, live on stage in the history of jamming.
💎💎🎶🎶🎸🎸Stevie Ray Vaughan , the greatest Bluesman 🎸🎸🎶🎶💎💎
2:33 proof that Stevie Ray Vaughan is the greatest guitarist of all time best thing I've ever seen
Love and miss this genius musician so much talent lost him too soon RIP LOVE YOU DEAR ONE
God I miss him so freaking much SRV beautiful talented humble funny loved and missed ❤
Guitar tech level 10, 1 nod from SRV was the equivalent of Dan Marino calling the fake spike to his WR with a single nod. A true master of his craft.
Thank you SRV and Double Trouble
His face expression after break the string and while he's doing that amazing vibrato (2:39) is pure, pure feeling. Thank you for everything SRV!
I was blessed enough to see him live right before his popularity blew up. To this day it's still the best performance I've ever seen. He played behind his head, behind his back. He switched from an acoustic to an electric guitar mid song without missing a beat. For me he is just the GOAT.
Look My comment please
Did you see it at this concert? , I envy you man (healthily) I didn't even have the opportunity to see any of my favorite artists all or almost all are already dead
FFS did not miss a beat, incredible
Man that piano was bad ass
Stevie was just a genius guitar player. I love the part right after the keyboard player's section when Stevie takes over at 2:08 and just goes off on a magnificent riff to continue the song. Just awesome !!!

The Tone,the Attitude,the artist,the singer,the guitarplayer,the main Man Mr Stevie Ray Vaughan!!!

correction
you know you're bad ass when you break the bottom string mid lead solo and make it sound even better with only 5 strings
I think stevie just earned another name sake with that performance alone
5 String Slinger?
Ledgendary thats why.i couldnt go see him wen he played auckland nz in 90?so imagine raging at the Hells Angels niteclub and who cruises out to freak out the wasters??yep thats right.srv himself.left me wondering if i was witnessing reality,i was.so didnt bum at missing concert.lucky i was upstairs lost in the head.i cn just imagine what i may have done lol.memories are forever.xxx
Watch his hands. Focus on how seamlessly he is with his art, skill and music - even with a guitar change. Snap those strings Stevie! Rest in power, genius.
Phenomenal ✨💖✨Stevie Was, Is, & Will Always Be the Best 🎉✨🥳✨🎊
Flawless guitar change
