Meagan ~ I wanted to let you know how much I appreciate yalls channel. This channel is the only thing that brings me happiness as I just lost my mother to cancer. I spent the month of December talking care of her and she passed on January 6th. My sweet daughter in love has been fighting stage 4 ovarian cancer. The doctors just told her they've done all they can do. Because while she was having the most aggressive chemo the cancer still spread to her kidneys and liver. 😢 And to top it off... my husband of 13 years abandoned me back in July. God is faithful and has been beside me thru allllll of this but the only channel that has sparked joy and the desire to continue is the lifestyle I love.. the lifestyle yall live as well. Thank you. And God Bless
I wish I had a dollar for every time I saw Mama cut up a chicken and I'd give you 2 dollars back to have some of her fried chicken. I have got to try that sweet potato delight. I love sweet potatoes any way you fix them.
Good morning, beautiful day, the Lord has made. It's good to see you and family. You guys are the American family and a lot people are so caught up there on little world, they will never enjoy or life on the farm. The peace and love of life outside the city race.we love you guys, because Jesus loves us.
Love watching this. Had to laugh, cause appears that we have the same style of cooking. I've heard it referred to as "dump cooking" cause I dump in whatever I think would taste good. Seldom do I totally follow a recipe. Sweet potatoes look yummy! I think we need to try it. Thank you ever so much, GOD bless. Love your channel.
I’m in my sixties…I was taught to cut up a whole chicken by eight years old 🤦♀️. I remember my grandmother always eating the back piece of the fried chicken…memories ✌️🤍
I cook the same way, a dash of this and a pinch of that for seasoning whatever protein I’m cooking. That sweet potato surprise looks delicious! I have Celiac disease and will have to see about making some gluten free crescent roll dough to try it.
I make smaltz out of my chicken fat and skin, and use that to put on my chicken instead of another fat. It only makes sense to use the same kind of fat.
Play that hot sweet potato into a dry kitchen towel and scrape the skin off with a steak knife or a fork that's how we used to do it growing up it works wonderful
I'm a fly by the seat of your pants type cook. Meaning I rarely cook a dish the same way twice. Now that I'm disabled and can't stand for long periods I'm finding it hard to explain to my husband exact seasonings and amounts to use. We have devised our own methods for cooking meals, I peel and prepare produce he washes it for cooking. Meat prep is the problem but I'm glad for his help and things usually turn out great
Do you grow your own vegetables, too? I grew up on a farm, but we could kill any farm animals my parents bought ours. Farm life , kids are the best. At least my family's farm was awesome. There was so much to do for the cows a bull pigs, chickens a rooster, a goat and horses.
Girl😲 I am seriously mouth watering over here!!!😅 Your kind of cooking is how I cook!! Pure down-home delishiousness!!! Gotta try the sweet potato surprise! Yummy!❤ Thanks for sharing friend!!❤
OMGosh, mom made the EXACT same dish except because we had lots of banana trees, she'd cut up bananas inside. It's a small world. We had it for dessert and she'd lightly drizzle icing on top. Cooked more brown, though, not doughy.
Watching all your videos. Love your Channel. Wish I could still cook this way but Hubbys got high blood and cholesterol now so meals are so plain now. No gravy or salt or fat. If we make it to our 80s were going back to real cooking. 😂
Just love fresh meat... certainly wish l was in a position, and 30 years younger to be able to do this..lol.. Great food starts with better ingredients..
When i eat sweet potatoes, since they are already so sweet, i just “bake” then in the microwave and eat then plain. they taste so good they dont need anything else. My parents love to eat baked sweet potato with some butter and cinnamon…so I think they would love your recipe. Ill have to surprise them and make it for them the next time i stay with them for the week (my siblings and i take turns staying a week at a time with them to take care of them so they can stay at home instead of a nursing home. Ill be their favorite daughter for at least the day, if i make this for them. 😊😊
You're making me hungry! I make roasted whole chicken in the crock pot, sometimes in the Instapot. Yummy. My Grandma would eat the tail, we kids would cringe! Love the way you cook, no measurements, but always, sometimes , comes out tasting good. I'll have to try the sweet potato dish. Love sweet potatoes.
Girl as an old guy a woman like you would be a dream. They don't raise people like you in Ohio. Guess my old redneck is showing. I prefer fowl over beef. It's a tummy thing, well at least the beef you get around here. Not very tasty, darn sure not the kind of meat you could get 50 yrs ago. You best take good care of the man you have. You know he ain't perfect but he's pretty dang good. So glad I found this channel.
A friend of mine knows of my fondness for sweet potatoes. He likes to practice with his smoker and smoked some sweet potatoes for s completely different taste.
I'm a new subscriber and I have to tell you I love that you're not afraid to cook with Lard, I am 60 yr. old can"t eat it anymore myself but love to see your cooking Brings me back to my younger days. Blessings
You grow a garden. You should grow your own herbs. That way they're fresh don't buy them store-bought herbs those are like six to 12 months old provide fresh herbs for your family it'll also taste better
Take some scissors and cut along the bottom of the rib cages then bend the back up and it will break at the pulley bone. I use a pair of side cut pliers to cut through the pulley bone for ease. I’m guessing you make chicken stock from the backs and wing tips?
We feed sunrise farms non-gmo feed, our meat birds have thrived on it and we seem to get more consistent sizes, I’m not sure if this is just a local brand or if it can be purchased around the country but we buy it from our local feed store.
Hatcheries are trained to be able to tell when they are day old chicks, I’ve tried but I’m not that great at it lol you can usually tell when they are about a month or so old roosters feathers look different than hens, they also have larger combs on their heads but I’ve been fooled by that too
I am fixing to retire from a factory job and move from suburbia USA and get some land, and would like to raise chickens for eggs and meat. Maybe a couple of cows and a pig. My question is, when you get your homegrown meat to the table, how do you not get around the thought of eating Gertrude the chicken, or Wendy the cow, or Bar-b the pig? I mean, how do you raise them un-objectively so you can slaughter ant eat them?
Honestly, it’s never a day we look forward too, I don’t name the animals that will be food, I can’t or I will be attached, I make sure they all get the best care possible, but I don’t spend time with them taming them like I do my other animals. I just have to know in my mind when they step foot here what their purpose is and mentally prepare myself. I have piece of mind knowing they weren’t raised on a factory farm and that they lived a happy life minus one bad second when we dispatch. I hope this helps ❤️
My mamaw never bought store chicken she always had farm chickens. I was just a little girl and she showed me how to clean and cut up a chicken. I would love it when I seen the chicken had eggs inside her they where soft shell eggs.she made the best dumpings.I just want you to know how I love your channel brings back memories of days gone by.I love your sweet potato surprise that's an easy way to make sweet potato pie.bless your little family and your videos.💐💐💐
Looked like a great meal for everyone and Momma's Delight will be all gone this meal. You did great Megan, thanks for sharing the recipe for the Sweet Potato Delight. Stay safe and keep the farm a rolling along. Fred.
Heya Meagan, just know that your type of cooking is my type of cooking. Fresh veg from the garden, chickens for eggs and sadly, meat/ chicken from the butcher shop. But all good cause we only have a very small (645sqm) section in town. It makes me so proud that I’m able to grow enough vegetables and fruit to feed us with some put up for winter. Blessings to you all.

Now that looked like some good eatin. Yummy!
I make smaltz out of my chicken fat and skin, and use that to put on my chicken instead of another fat. It only makes sense to use the same kind of fat.
My mom called it smaltz too. I save all my chicken fat. YUM
Play that hot sweet potato into a dry kitchen towel and scrape the skin off with a steak knife or a fork that's how we used to do it growing up it works wonderful
Looks delicious, I really enjoy y'all's videos, good country living and lots of helpful information.

When I say quarter my chicken, I mean exactly that. Cut in half, and then cut each half in half. Mission accomplished! 😅 Try it, you might like it! 😊
Just love fresh meat... certainly wish l was in a position, and 30 years younger to be able to do this..lol..
Great food starts with better ingredients..

Delicious is the only word that comes to mind!! The sweet potato surprise reminds me of pie. So yummy
Looks delicious!
Thanks for the idea about the sweet potato delight! I'm going to make it!😂
If you score the potato skin with a knife lengthwise before baking or boiling then they will self peel when they are ready
When I was still living at home momma would get me to cut up the chickens as I could cut one up to fry in about 2 minutes.
I would come and work for you for free, just to hear Megan talk..love you too!!
Meghan I haven’t cut up a chicken in so long you wouldn’t recognize it lol 😂
Girl as an old guy a woman like you would be a dream. They don't raise people like you in Ohio. Guess my old redneck is showing. I prefer fowl over beef. Is store bought lard make a good substitute for farm lard
❤❤❤
I like backbone the best oysters California
Put a dish towel under your cutting board and it won't move as much
Meagan they dont make them like you anymore. 😢
Your chickens are beautiful
Love watching you cook Magan..
I'm a new subscriber and I have to tell you I love that you're not afraid to cook with Lard, I am 60 yr. old can"t eat it anymore myself but love to see your cooking Brings me back to my younger days. Blessings

Good looking supper
Looks delicious 😋 good supper
You grow a garden. You should grow your own herbs. That way they're fresh don't buy them store-bought herbs those are like six to 12 months old provide fresh herbs for your family it'll also taste better
I do ☺️ I have a lot of herbs in my flower beds but I do buy Italian seasoning to use occasionally too
Great channel, but my Lord…you use an awful lot of lard. I gave up lard 50 years ago.
Butter, lard and olive oil is all I use ☺️
Take some scissors and cut along the bottom of the rib cages then bend the back up and it will break at the pulley bone. I use a pair of side cut pliers to cut through the pulley bone for ease. I’m guessing you make chicken stock from the backs and wing tips?
yes we have
That plate got side planks on it😮
That looks delicious!
Hey Meagan what kind of feed do y’all feed the meat chickens. I plan on growing my first batch this year and was trying for ideas.
We feed sunrise farms non-gmo feed, our meat birds have thrived on it and we seem to get more consistent sizes, I’m not sure if this is just a local brand or if it can be purchased around the country but we buy it from our local feed store.
A very yummy meal Megan !!
How do you know what the sex of the chickens are? At what age, and how do you easily tell what will become a rooster?
Hatcheries are trained to be able to tell when they are day old chicks, I’ve tried but I’m not that great at it lol you can usually tell when they are about a month or so old roosters feathers look different than hens, they also have larger combs on their heads but I’ve been fooled by that too
👍👍👍👍👍👍👍❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Looks real yummy❤
Wonderful meal,we’ll try the sweet potato surprise, looks delicious!! Thanks Randy
Looks great!!!
Do y'all eat a lot of leftovers? Some city folk won't eat leftovers.
all the time!
The backbone/neck/tail is my favorite piece. My mom thought I was nuts, but I'd take it over anything else. I'm 65 now.
Very fun
