    RovyVon A8 (UV/RED) - 4th Generation Transcript
    General thoughts after a week of usage/size comparison/practicality/interesting things:
    • It's hard to get excited about a chain light. I got my first RovyVon light, the A8 in the mail the other day and when I took it out of the box, I didn't really think much of it. But it wasn't until I had a closer look that I realized this light was something special.
    • What you get in the box - some accessories (keyrings, magnetic tail/reversible clip), the light itself, and instructions - also come in a little storage box.
    • Comparison with Nextorch K40
    Overall Construction, LED, lens, bezel and reflector
    • PC construction with stainless steel bezel. Appears to be a copper heatsink in the head of the light too. Clear windows in front of the auxiliary lights.
    • Mine comes with a high CRI Nichia 219C (5000K) + TIR lens. You can also get the version with the SST20 @ 6500K. Mine comes with a 365nm UV auxiliary LED (genuine, as most are 395nm since they are cheaper but produce more visible light). Also, get a red LED (625nm) and a 4000K white LED (70 CRI). There are two other versions of this light that have 2x white LED/UV and Amber/Red/Blue LEDs. Incredible range of LED options for a keychain light. I don't know any other company that does this.
    • Recessed stainless steel button.
    UI - modes
    • 5 clicks to lock/unlock
    • Hold for a momentary high.
    • Double-click to go to the memory mode of the main LED and click to cycle brightness.
    • Triple click for UV/Red modes. Click again to cycle between modes.
    • Quad click for white side LED. Click again to go from low to high.
    Performance - total output, beam profile, longevity, practicality
    • CCT, CRI, Ceiling bounce test
    Considerations
    • Non-replaceable battery.
    • PC construction - keeps things light, but I prefer aluminum for added durability.
    • Would prefer the UV mode separate from the red/white LEDs in the UI. E.g. 4 clicks to access UV.
    Verdict
    The attention to detail and amount of different features and functions in the A8 make it worthwhile considering if you're looking for an EDC flashlight. RovyVon has thought of everything under the sun when it comes to smaller EDC flashlights. This is the most advanced keychain light I own and I'd recommend it if you're looking for the perfect all-rounder EDC flashlight.

    Oh man, I knew it was possible to get it to start in moonlight mode! I did it and then undid it without knowing how. Thank you for explaining that it's memorised by leaving it in that mode for 3 minutes! A lot of other reviewers don't know this and just say it can't be memorised.

      Your welcome mate! The manual wasn't super clear about it but that's what I interpreted from it.

    Rovyvon really has focused on Keychain lights and it shows. They don't really have any competition when it comes to features. Nice to note that the UV is at the proper frequency. Kudos to Rovyvon. When is comes a small light, total lumen isn't important as runtime. Use of such a light will be a last resort because you don't have anything else.

      It's definitely more than anyone will need for a keychain light haha. And yeah I was impressed with the 625nm UV light as well :)

    I really like the A5 that glows in the dark. Easy to find at night when you need it

      Awesome.. they come in a heap of different configurations. Interesting SMD LEDs too - they look like mini versions of normal LEDs.

      @@DarrenYeoYT They come in handy checking your mailbox and getting your key in the door when the lights are off. High quality and very bright for their size.

      How do you get yours to switch to red/blue modes? Mine does UV, white in 2 brightness and 3 red and red flashing modes. The manual says three quick presses, and that doesn’t work.

    I see you swapped out the magnetic end-cap. How did you do that? I tried a screwdriver and a needle nose pliers and exerted enough force I thought I would break the plastic if I pressed any harder. Any clue how to swap it out without breaking the little thing?

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  7 месяцев назад

      Use a finger nail and 'scratch' one of the shorter edges. It clips onto the the light that way so don't just pull it or it'll break that lip on the plastic

      Haven't seen that version but I do find that warmer light is easier on the eyes. I use the red one a lot but it doesn't make much light.

    I have one and I don't understand the amber LED that barely lights up along with the UV LED. It's not bright enough to do anything and can't be turned on by itself.

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  11 дней назад

      Hmm, the amber light should be able to be activated separately from the UV apparently

      @@DarrenYeoYT Just checked again. It's not an amber LED, but the white LED that just barely glows (and appears amber) when the UV LED is on.

    • @DarrenYeoYT
      @DarrenYeoYT  8 месяцев назад +3

      Yeah they are a bit pricey for keychain lights but they have tons of features too. I'd rather get a metal version next time, maybe copper/brass.

      Maybe… I bought mine after replacing the little AAA battery on my $9.99 300 Lumen O’light key chain light a few dozen times and realized the battery costs add up. This is rechargeable, multi modes and 600 lumens. I paid $37 not including tax. I’ve spent about that in batteries alone over the past few years, so IF you use it, not a bad deal at all!
