What’s your take on these lights? Do you think you could fit them in your EDC?

I've found the E8 (side LEDs are on the thin side instead of the front of the body) to be great. Well, my second one...extremely poor customer service on a faulty first one, but eventually got a second one and it is great. Bright main emitters, warm white side, red side, and UV side. It is good for reading maps in the dark with that low warm light and seeing scorpions with the UV.
I use the AAA 95% of the time because, in trying to repair my first one (received with intermittent front button) I found out that replacing a worn out lithium cell would be next to impossible.
While it isnt my main EDC, the E8 feels so nice in hand that I tend to toss it in a pocket as a fidget.
The A28 was my bedside light until I got a Hanklight that beats all of these lights.
I EDC a warrior 3 but all my keychains have a RovyVon Aurora A8 on them.

What Hank-light did you end up getting? The little D2 is pretty sweet. The problem with the A28 G1 is the low is not moonlight--too bright. Possibly the G2 has better lumens spread. For mini/micro EDC, the RovyVon Aurora A8 or A5 can't be beat. But I do have to point out the latest Olight i1r2 Pro is excellent, with captive head and refined twisty UI (in terms of low/high activation by position).

      @@cytherians D4k 21700 3-channel Hank-light (W1 Thrower/2x 519K 4500k/UV[custom] with AUX set to bright red when locked(for easy access as I dont lock it)).
I agree with the A28 not having moonlight being a problem and a reason I replaced it and tossed it into my GF's purse, she loves it as a bag-light. With the Hank-light not being a viable EDC for me(it IS a great little EDC, it just doesnt fit my needs), it made a perfect replacement for bedside, and it's Aduril2 having candle-mode and a timer really made it a permanent fixture there.
As for the super tiny Olight iXr varients...I got so many of them free with deals that I just have them around. None of them have the removable head so I actually use them on all of my coats and jackets as zipperpulls. They are durable enough to not be bothered by it at all and it is nice having another light or a beacon if walking around at night in town. I have even just used them for quick peeks at a map during landnav without getting my Warrior3s out of my pocket.

@@buckcherry2564 Nice choice on the 3-channel D4K. That just came out, right? I have a DM1.12 and a D1. Hank does great work.
I've also picked up a number of Olight iXr variants over the years. Just gave away my last new one with Micro USB. I have an old i1r EOS on my house keychain, and iXv on my car keychain. The iXv is terrific and solved the vagueness of twisty UI on earlier models. Pretty much a perfect light, except for the tint being a bit cold.

I've had the E7 for just over 3 months now. Its my favorite flashlight and I have a ton of lights. I agree the clip just doesnt fit properly. It has never popped off and I carry it in the watch pocket of my jeans or just dropped in the pocket when wearing shorts. My main issue is when dropped in pocket the side light somehow gets turned on. I dont know how many times I pull it out and its on. Ive learned to lock it out, which isn't that much of a pita. Great video!!!

I was introduced to Rovyvon about 3 weeks ago when I won an A29 brass in a local auction. Overall I was smitten with it. A week later I won another light, the A4 Pro Gen2 in Titanium and this little light is huge in performance. A few days ago, curiosity took over and I bought the A23 Pro that came with Nichia 219C with TIR same like A29 brass. A23 Pro came with 2 green tritium installed too. Its my edc currently and A4 Pro as backup.
Yes it does use proprietary batteries although the edc series is replaceable. The high cri and 700lmns is just plenty for my tired eyes, small form factor and 600mAh Lipo is just perfect balance imo. A21, A24 and A26 is in the radar 😁

Rovyvon makes some really great lights. My biggest complaint, and one that keeps me from buying more, is the internal battery. You’re basically buying a disposal light. Once that thing dies, that’s it, no more light. The angel eyes series helps with that, but even then, once the lipo has had enough, you’ve got a pricey paper weight. They have a few lights in timascus and zircuti that are in the $400-$500 range. I wonder if rovyvon would be willing to replace the lipo’s in those lights once they take a dump? Anyway, decent review. You did forget to mention the e7 strobe function and how to actually switch battery option. Small details, I know. Just saying.

I'm loving the look of the A28, but the placement of the USB-C charging port seems awkward -- if a key ring is attached to the clip, is a charging cable able to be plugged in?

    • @LandmanEDC
      @LandmanEDC  11 месяцев назад +1

Ok, so I just put a standard size key ring on it and yes, it does impede the USB-C port. It’s not unusable, but it is difficult. Now if you are referring to the metal clip (you said “clip” in your comment), attaching a key ring to it would not get in the way of the USB port at all.
      Thanks for your question!

@@LandmanEDC Yes sorry, the plastic tail loop -- I see now that there's a little notch cut out but it still looks like a tight fit except for maybe a smaller keyring. Seems like the magnetic tail attachment would make it even more awkward, I wish they'd put the USB port on the side like on my A8. Thanks for checking!

I like good quality flashlights with long runtimes of useful brightness, so i look for flashlights with the main focus on low lumen settings with relatively high candela (if you know of a good one in titanium, please let me know). The Nitecore MT1A is used by NATO, and is the best i am currently aware of. A single AA battery gives it 60 hours on the 5 lumen "low" setting. 5 lumen may sound almost useless - but this is 280 candela..! To put things into perspective, the 180 lumen setting on the Olight i1R2 Pro is just 580 candela, which makes it just a little over twice as bright as the 5 lumen setting on the MT1A. I also really like the quick access to Turbo mode (180 lumen/3350 candela) by twisting the "head". The medium setting is 22 lumen/755 candela, which runs for 18 hours - and to me this is the PERFECT medium brightness. High setting is 55 lumen/1500 candela, and last for 5 hours and 30 minutes. It also has a tail switch, and as you twist the head to access turbo mode, it is very easy to use in the dark, without having to fumble for flat buttons on the side. Weight is 87g with battery (on my scale).
I recently got the Wuben X0, which is a very unique looking 90 degree flashlight that is built like a tank, provides 900/1100 lumens, has customizable lumen settings, USB C charging, uses an 18350 battery (1,100mAh - full charge takes 90 minutes - runtimes specified below), is IP68 dust/water proof, has magnetic tailcap, and provides close to 180 degree floodlight, with a reasonable hotspot that makes it useable on lower lumen settings. Size is 57mm (2.24 inches) so pretty small/short. Weight is 85g with battery (on my scale), so not bad for such a rugged flashlight. The main feature of this flashlight is that it has a clip on the back, so i can strap it to the chest strap on my backpack and use it hands free if i use hiking poles. So say goodbye to "compression headaches" from wearing headlamps!!! This is the first flashlight i have owned that allows me to adjust the brightness of the different presets (except turbo, strobe, and SOS), and i really like this feature. It is very easy to do, and is accessed through "clicking + click and hold" the button, which soon after makes it cycle up and down through the brightness, briefly turning off the light once it reach its max/min settings (makes it easy to see when it is at max/min brightness). Once it is at your desired brightness, you just release the button. Turbo mode is accessed through double clicking the button, so you dont have to flip through modes if you hear a crazy killer moose lurking in the forest. To cycle through the other presets, you have to hold down the button, which is not especially fast, but its ok. If you turn down the lumen settings to the minimum, you get 15 lumen (i guess around 30-35 candela) on the low setting, which i personally think is really nice for night hikes. This is far from the 280 candela brightness you get on the 5 lumen setting on the MT1A, but still good enough for me who prefer dim lights for night hikes (i dont have many dangerous animals in my area, so i just want to see where im walking). The only thing i dont like is that the SOS mode is only 50 lumen. I guess this will let it run for much longer and not drain the battery in a survival situation, but it seems a bit low if you want to be seen from far away. Not a huge problem for me though, as i usually carry a backup flashlight for redundancy. This flashlight comes in both aluminum and titanium, but due to the build quality, i think the aluminum is good enough.
    Standard settings are:
Turbo - 900/1100 lumen - 3920/2670 candela - 102/125 meter beam distance - 1 minute before dropping to 300 lumen, which last for 2 hours
    High - 250 lumen - 630 candela - 50 meter beam distance - 2,5 hours
    Mid - 150 lumen - 322 candela - 36 meter beam distance - 15 hours
    Low - 50 lumen - 91 candela - 19 meter beam distance - 40 hours
    Moonlight - 1 lumen - 1 candela - 2 meter beam distance - 130 hours

I passed on the E series, because I find the battery setup to be deficient. A lithium 10440 cell won't work in the AAA slot. Also, a NiMH AAA can't be recharged in it. I get the idea of being able to use such a cell if you've not been able to recharge... but most flashlight folks are going to have spare lights. I have several AAA flashlights, plus an Olight i1r2. Frankly, I'd rather RovyVon put a nice 600mAh or beefier 850mAh battery in the E series. The A28 G2 is very nice. I have the older G1 which is Micro USB and has 1 control switch. The A28 can be opened to replace the proprietary battery, but the cost of it is like 50% of the flashlight price. But, these LiPo cells are such great quality, that by the time you need a new one, the latest tech will be compelling enough to justify buying a new model.
