The problem with David saying that you can use the transition version of these glasses all day, both indoors and outdoors, is that if you are using them as a Bluetooth headset, the battery will drain in 2-3 hours and you will need to put them in the case for recharging. So, if you buy these glasses for listening to music/podcasts when you go out for walking/cycling, when you eventually go indoors, you will need to put them in the case anyway regardless of whether they have the regular lenses or the transition lenses.
I had the RB Stories with transitions and i bought the Meta’s with G15. Transitions made me look like austin powers and they didn’t go dark enough outside, they also don’t go dark in a car because of the UV protection. I’ve already used the Metas a lot more than the Stories transitions.

Been using video glasses for a while before these came out and found the best way to put something in frame is to put a dot where you think you're shooting center, then review the video, reference where your dot is and make a correction to where the center is and make another dot there. First off, I've been a massive fan of your work for years now, so to have you drop in here is amazing and I'm very humbled! I hope our paths cross at some point. To the transition lenses, I followed up on Instagram, but not with another full video on here. My notes now are that there are two really tough choices with these and that might make them a total no go for a lot of people. The tinted lenses are unusable indoors, but the transitions don't get dark enough outdoors. Plus, they don't get dark at all while driving because windshields have UV filters in them, so I would find myself holding them up to my side window to get dark. Unfortunately, with current tech, if you really want these, it's a choice of the lesser evil. Which is a bummer, because the speakers and quick photos are amazing to use!
@@user-yz5oh4jj7v A lot. I was at LensCrafters getting glasses today and these are $470CAD, and my prescription is $315 for non Rayban, non transition lenses. I was thinking about it, I had the money but I didn't do it.
Just ordered them today and decided to buy them without looking up a review on YT. My eye insurance benefit was about to end and would be a waste of $170 if I don’t use it. Figured out okay let’s use that to get the RayBans smart glasses. What really sold me was the music BT function, thought it was sick to listen to music without having those around you knowing that you have an “ear piece.” Next, that mistake you’ve mentioned was a good decision on my end but only to my luck because I have Gucci prescription clear eye glasses. In my head, I thought okay let’s get sunglass prescription BUT also countered that because I hate switching to clear prescription frames to sunglass prescription frames and carrying 2 pairs every where I go. So my next decision was to get transitions which had solved that situation. Another plus what’s worth mentioning that wasn’t covered in the vid was the color options provided for the raybans! I was close to getting the matte black but it made the camera lens more prominent and so to those who might approach you might be bothered of having a camera in their face with or without consent. To combat this I’ve opted for the shiny black. To sum up this and by watching the review, it was a W today boys. Let’s smoke, drink, and get lit…
I probably won’t buy the glasses becuz of the expense, but that was a darn good review cuz I watched the whole video even knowing I probably won’t get a pair. Great job on being so honest. If I was getting a pair it would def be the transition ones.
Just won a pair - pretty amazing - they also translated whatever I was looking at (English/Italian/Spanish/French/German) - was able to answer a math problem I wrote down - was able to answer a multiple choice question - hear/respond to txt msgs - make/receive calls - listen to all music apps since is basically a BT headset as well - v6 update now allows 3min vids 😎
Tried a pair on today, and was sold. They look EXACTLY like regular Raybans and not bulky ir stupid. The streamef audio quality was excellent and more than adequate to hear your musuc or a phone call yet be safe. The short video clip is not a drawback and obviously made for Instagram. HOME RUN META AND RAY-BAN
Happy Birthday sir! I have long been a fan of the RayBan line. I really love how they stayed on brand with the rechargeable case. Great attention to their detail.
Wow. So cool. Didn’t know about transition glasses. I need prescription glasses so could be a cool vibe Do you know if the 4 hr battery life is for constant use or is it last longer if you aren’t constantly using it
As a guy with a prescription I was going to get transitions right off the bat. :) I wanted the matte look but your concern about matte has be double thinking. But the shiny black looks too shiny for me for my day to day glasses. With sunglass lenses it looks great, but thick frame and shiny looks weird on me. Lol
The camera on the Meta Raybans is better than the go pro 3 because the Raybans are for quick pictures, and the Go Pros are sideways because of where the camera is
You did an awesome job of reviewing this product. I really appreciate your input on everything about them. I do agree that the timeline should be longer on the video for sure, especially since it has so much memory built-in. As for the camera itself I am very surprised they didn’t give the option built-in of horizontal or vertical shots but I kind of get it because most people are going to use the shots primarily for posting. What would really be cool is if they would put in a panoramic option and project a horizontal line across the lens to stay horizontal while taking the photo 😮
Hope technology gets to the point that you can have your shot displayed on the inside of the lens. That or have the camera in the middle of the glasses.
I love the sound from these! Not having to use earbuds while I'm working is awesome. I work by myself and like to listen to either music or podcasts while working, but with earbuds, can't hear if someone approaches me
Good vid, I was interested in a pair but did not want to spend the money on a pair of meta's so I went for a used pair of Stories. For $150 I got a shiny black pair with brown transition lenses. the vid/cam may not be the best but for those instances I just want to capture something, bang it is done. I like the fact I do not need to take my phone with me when I go out with the glasses as I can pair them up to any bluetooth device. for music/audio books/blogs. Might buy the meta 3s if they ever come out with good quality, high megapixel cameras.
I was at the mall yesterday and heard about these. I bought the brown pair which I really love but the main thing I don’t like is that because they’re brown you can see the camera and it’s more prevalent than on the black lenses. I did try on the transition lenses and I felt like they were really big on me. Like they kept sliding off my face, felt like they were made for a man. I might go back before my 30 days is up and swap them out because I hadn’t thought about, taking the sunglasses off when you go indoors.
Nope. I don't think the speakers are loud enough for that. That's probably their biggest weakness is that because they're just speakers near your ears, they do nothing to isolate audio
I wear prescriptions glasses. Can they be converted into prescription glasses without ruining the features? Oh, just watched the last 20 seconds. When you find out though, please let me know.
I like mine for work. Waiting to see the battery life. Always on the phone and visit different work sites.i believe it's only 1 min so you can share. You can take a vid of upcoming projects and send to group. No option to turn of vid light while filming. I should have gotten the transition lens. Awesome vid man
Just a tip for people from a different perspective. I actually anticipated the transition lenses issue before purchasing. I thought I was being very clever by ordering the transitions, but it came with a catch in reality. The transition lenses only go to colour "green" as opposed to the black or graphite which doesn't give me that dark, cool sunglasses look. I find it unless it is in very bright sunshine, the sunglasses are more like coloured lenses, rather than the blacked out look most people associate with shades. I personally know I don't suit a tinted lens look, especially with the old school Ray Ban style. If i'm somewhere thats hot but slightly overcast, it just looks like I need glasses. I'll be buying the full "Gradient Graphite" look and donating these to the girlfriend or mother.
The video limitation comes from saving the video on the onboard memory on the frames themselves.... hopefully, there will be an update that allows saving directly to your phone. Just my guess though.
I am waiting on getting my Prescription Transition Meta Wayfarers. The best thing about getting a prescription is that my eye medical plan helps with the cost :)
Being that most people are right eye dominant.. It woulda been a lot cooler if they had the camera on the right.. or at least the option of picking which side you want the camera on. Maybe eventually they will incorperate two cameras on each side and find a way to stitch the images together for a wider fov.
Oh boy! An outstanding review covering everything to know. Well done. Your musing abiut Prescription Transition Lenses is the most cogent for me.. at 47 and with every intention to remain stylish, itd ne the best for me.
I got mines for my birthday on the 10th of April and I love them !! Now customers don’t see me all weird when I ask if I can record , now I just do it and don’t look like weirdo holding a tripod while working lol but yeah they are great for $400
What I always wondered if you had the prescription glasses. Is if you go into a building or a place that doesn't allow cameras and recordings can a force you to take off your glasses but would that be a conflict of interest from the ADA laws for a medical device.
I like them, I wish there was an option to change the clip times between 30, 45, 60, and 120 second clips, definitely on my birthday list. I ride euc, think like a onewheeled dirtbike that’s electric, so I ride a lot of trails and streets and I like doing stunts or filing during group rides, but I want to do so without using my hands or using separate cameras that takes a lot of editing to upload to instagram. These seem perfect and they have added utility with the speakers
I have the Rx Transition lens in mine, the only thing I miss is the Polarization when outside. Yes, it does mess with looking at LED/LCD screens...but there's a lot of glare where I am.
I make golf content and I was gonna buy these to go live at the course without using a tripod but the 30 minute live stream killed it for me.. it takes 3 to 4 hours to play a round lol but that's a bummer 😕
Yeah, I'm thinking you need a full on action camera on the course with you. When I'm on the course I shoot with the Ace Pro and GO 3 in different mounts to get some killer shots!
I'm a driver, the transition lenses are very cool but the polarization is probably better for me. I was really hoping someone would mention and show the frames. I have the bose glasses, twice I had them fall and cracked at the screws. So now they are not tight...
I really enjoyed your review! I was going to buy the transition lenses but realized when I had them before they do not change to sunglasses in a car. The windows in cars are all UV protected so the glasses don't recognize the sun. I drive a lot and really use my sunglasses for that purpose and really like the polarized lenses to eliminate the glare off the dashboard( downside is I can't read my heads-up display with the polarized). So I have the Polarized Radiant Graphite and absolutely love them but I guess I do look like a "Rockstar" indoors😂
I just ordered a pair with traditional, non-transition lenses and began questioning my decision after seeing this review. Since my need for sunglasses is also mainly for driving, I am definitely keeping the ones I ordered. Not having them darken in the car would defeat the primary reason I have sunglasses. Thanks for reminding me about this problem.
this was really helpful thank you. i wanted to get these so i could film concerts and be able to watch them back later, whilst still being in the moment and not holding a phone up like everyone does nowadays. this video deterred me from the purchase due to the glasses only filming 60 secs at a time and having spacial audio etc. i hope that in the future there will be better options and settings to adjust certain features.
I had transitions that made you feel like you wanted to vomit after an hour. I traded them in for a pair of the dusty red polarized (because they do protect your eyes better, and the shade is so light you can see inside perfectly fine. I don't even need to take them Off at night because they connect to my t.v in case my t.v headphones die. So I'm not sure what was going on here but switching from the transitions for the dusty red or the amber colored was SO much better. Don't switch to transition. Especially if you don't need glasses.
I was thnking the same thing, i didn't want to have them as sun glasses, and not to be able to wear them indoors, or evening hours... didn't know they offered them with transition lenses, good to know, I may buy them now...

@@DavidManningvlog aye did we just become friends!? YUP!
Will you be at NAB this year!? Let's join forces at some point.

Great review! I just ordered these with my prescription, transition lens along with progressive bifocals. Looking forward to getting them.
How dare u not tell us how much they cost!
@@user-yz5oh4jj7v A lot. I was at LensCrafters getting glasses today and these are $470CAD, and my prescription is $315 for non Rayban, non transition lenses. I was thinking about it, I had the money but I didn't do it.
@@user-yz5oh4jj7vsingle lense prescription will run you 577 with the thing lens and blue screen protection.
Just ordered them today and decided to buy them without looking up a review on YT. My eye insurance benefit was about to end and would be a waste of $170 if I don’t use it.
Figured out okay let’s use that to get the RayBans smart glasses. What really sold me was the music BT function, thought it was sick to listen to music without having those around you knowing that you have an “ear piece.”
Next, that mistake you’ve mentioned was a good decision on my end but only to my luck because I have Gucci prescription clear eye glasses.
Hell yeah I'm window shopping 😂😂
Thank you! And yeah, that was one of the most impressive parts of the whole setup! I like when the tech is hidden. Feels more clever!
Sorry if I missed the answer to this question in your review…but are you wearing the large or x-large transition glasses in your video? Thank you
Same my question which is really crucial prior purchase online
which size did you get foe the glasses?
standard or xxl?
Was skeptical til I saw the transition lenses. Going to order today thank you!
Wow. So cool. Didn’t know about transition glasses.
I need prescription glasses so could be a cool vibe
Do you know if the 4 hr battery life is for constant use or is it last longer if you aren’t constantly using it
As a guy with a prescription I was going to get transitions right off the bat. :)
I wanted the matte look but your concern about matte has be double thinking.
I haven't finished the video yet but just wanted to say, the first frame looks sick!
Focus was tack sharp, low aperture and an amazing grade. Nice. 👍
Thanks man! Always working on the grade!
@@DavidManningvlog I have started shooting in s-log on my a6300, so I'm eager to learn more! I watched your video on cine 4 Vs s-log 3, fascinating!
Hope technology gets to the point that you can have your shot displayed on the inside of the lens. That or have the camera in the middle of the glasses.
Get non polarized description lenses + glossy black frame (matte black leaves fingerprints and grease)
I love the sound from these! Not having to use earbuds while I'm working is awesome. I work by myself and like to listen to either music or podcasts while working, but with earbuds, can't hear if someone approaches me
Are these the medium or large version?
Are they good for Cycling ??? To listen to music, to take live video as you cycle? to answer phone calls ?
Yep, you can order them with your prescription🙌
I got the transitions my self they are great but I see your point and I think that’s why my boss took his lenses out! But glad to have transitions!
I ordered the shinny black transitions yesterday, let’s see how long it takes to arrive. Which lens size did you get? 53-22 (XL)? Or the regular ones?
and happy birthday! 🎉
Hey David, wanted to know what size you ordered as well, the standard / large (W4006) or extra large (W4008)? Thanks!
Hey lens size?
I just ordered my prescription transition lenses. Can't wait to get them. Great video!
May I ask what your total cost is with transition prescription lenses and glasses? Thank you
@@skipwilson5288 $453 all in. That includes $150 off for my vision insurance.
I like mine for work. Waiting to see the battery life. Always on the phone and visit different work sites.i believe it's only 1 min so you can share. You can take a vid of upcoming projects and send to group. No option to turn of vid light while filming. I should have gotten the transition lens. Awesome vid man
Glad you talked about polarize lenes do wish the record limit was longer.
They do have prescription ray ban meta smarts glasses available at LensCrafters
Yes... definitely need the transition lens... I wear them all the time when I'm out and about.
Thank you for such a detailed review with routine examples!!!I cannot wait to treat myself!!!
I wear ray-bans with perscription lenses. I wear sungless all the time inside and outside. This is perfect for me.
Oh boy! An outstanding review covering everything to know. Well done.
Your musing abiut Prescription Transition Lenses is the most cogent for me.. at 47 and with every intention to remain stylish, itd ne the best for me.
I got mines for my birthday on the 10th of April and I love them !! My girl got me the transition ones because I own a carpet cleaning company and post videos on instagram, Facebook, tik tok and RUclips !
Curious what frame you got? The wayfarer or the headliner?
I went for the Wayfarer
I ONLY wear Ray bans. I'm going to get a pair and definitely include my prescription and transition as I have with all my frames 😁
Ordered them today with prescription lenses with transition. I still have my bose frames I got 2 years ago and love them but time for a new script.
I've been wearing rayban prescription transitions for a few years so I'm seriously considering going for these as my next glasses.
Can you unload the videos to an external drive and then put them together for TikTok?
I have the Rx Transition lens in mine, the only thing I miss is the Polarization when outside. Yes, it does mess with looking at LED/LCD screens...but there's a lot of glare where I am.
Did you get G-15 lens or the gray?
Hi, do you think there will be a next generation coming soon with landscape photo and video capabilities. Great video by the way
I make golf content and I was gonna buy these to go live at the course without using a tripod but the 30 minute live stream killed it for me.. it takes 3 to 4 hours to play a round lol but that's a bummer 😕
Yeah, I'm thinking you need a full on action camera on the course with you. When I'm on the course I shoot with the Ace Pro and GO 3 in different mounts to get some killer shots!
what is the stability of the video, the image shakes?
I see you changed your mind on the Matte black and went with the shiny black.. I’m debating on which to go with. What made you switch?
He said it was how dirty the matte black would look from fingetrprints/oil etc
@@TomFlord Oh I must’ve missed that part.. Appreciate it man
this was really helpful thank you. i wanted to get these so i could film concerts and be able to watch them back later, whilst still being in the moment and not holding a phone up like everyone does nowadays. this video deterred me from the purchase due to the glasses only filming 60 secs at a time and having spacial audio etc. i hope that in the future there will be better options and settings to adjust certain features.
I'm interested in the interior design of your home because I'm gonna decorate mine. How about a room tour?😀
I had transitions that made you feel like you wanted to vomit after an hour. I traded them in for a pair of the dusty red polarized (because they do protect your eyes better, and the shade is so light you can see inside perfectly fine. I don't even need to take them
Off at night because they connect to my t.v in case my t.v headphones die.
Glasses really suit you my man 👍🏻👍🏻 I would have to get them with prescription lenses
I feel like we're going to see a whole lot more people wearing glasses soon that don't necessarily require them!
Which frames did you get as on the website there’s 2 options, the Headliner at £379 and the Wayfarer at £299 !?
you can change the lens .299 to buy, EXTRA $$$$$$ to change the lens . RayBan has a list of location where the lens can be changed
Can't wait to get mine ordered with transition lenses tomorrow. I heard if you wear beanies then the sound gets quite boomy.
From experience the beanie would have to be pretty thick. Hoods work much better.
Yeah you can like use the Beanie or Hood to cover the sound

Happy birthday David 🎉🎉... I think what weirds me out the most, is that I'm going to have to look at people's sunglasses to see if they're filming me. It's like a face cam instead of a dashcam. 1984 in 2024... Orwell was a few years off.
Absolutely! Cameras are pretty much everywhere now, you never know when you're being filmed! But that's sort of already the case with mobile phones, right? People can be holding their phone like they're texting, but really they're taking a photo/video of you😬
