Even now, conversations are pretty useless when the second someone is unsure about something you just google it - we will have no value from talking to other humans aside from sharing stories. Humans will become obsolete for getting/sharing information. More isolation from less dependence on each other
Given the speed through the internet of gpt-4o this should already be possible for openAI. I think the deal with Apple is basically them doing that with Siri on iDevices.
They sell transition lenses for day and night use. However, they should all be transition lenses in my opinion.
I agree and disagree. They should have an option. Transitions are a little expensive.
The lenses they come with should be treated like the free sample filament that comes with a 3D printer.

Getting custom lenses should just be part of your budget.

CORRECTION: The Meta sunglasses only have one camera (left side), the other side is used as an indicator light to let others know you're recording.

I always think it's funny that things like this indicate you're recording. There are cameras all over the room that don't do this. Why must I warn people that I'm recording my surroundings?

This is why I am thinking of patenting an AI nose-ring. Not only is it the perfect place for a camera but it can also know what smells you are experiencing or detect when you are sick. And after asking for directions, you just follow your nose.

The biggest issue I have with them: - hey, Meta, remember the place - it doesn’t work.
I’ve spent some time debugging the network traffic trying to connect to gpt-4o - limited results - a lot of work.
In total - if Meta would take an integration path with other apps and figure out how to make it work well for them - it would be class.
Other then that - a toy for a few days.

There are lots of stories of Peter Hamilton that use such agents (I'm re-reading the Fallen Dragon right now). It's the perfect use case - we don't need AGI in the end, we just need agents. I don't want a sentient slave to serve me, I want just a piece of interactive software that would check my email or turn on music or show me the map while driving or check a pdf for me. People are so confused about this - we REALLY don't need ScaJo to voice the ai, we just need an AI that would listen to our own voice and do as told. And that's it. I like the sun glasses a lot but I don't wear sunglasses in general (or medical glasses for now) so that's a bit a no-go for me. But they look quite good.
I'm in the same boat. I work as a head of Tech for a company and buy all the gadgets.
Albeit slightly boring conceptually compared to a lot of the flashy underdeveloped gadgets coming ou, this seems to be the most finished product.
I have the ones with transitional lenses and they work great for both inside and outside.
I have two sets of cycling glasses; one for use during the day, and one for use during the night:
1. Black shades (regular sunglasses)
2. Yellow driving shades (reduces glare from oncoming headlights and improves contrast in low-light conditions)
If it was possible to easily swap the lenses, I could probably wear them any time of day or night.

@@Robot-Rising they don't work while you are driving. Most windshields on newer cars filter UV that reduces the photochromic effect.
I got this in Febrary and it is one of the best purchases for me. I wear glasses so had my prescription glass fitted to it. So it is on me all the time. The Ai features with LLAMA 3 was introduced to it towards end of April. Before that it was only camera. It has been amazingly useful as an camera. I mostly used it to video record everywhere I go and create short FB reels. The quality of video and photos are amazing for that tiny camera. The best part is that no one notice you recording the action so others would not "ACT" and you do not need to get people uncomfortable pointing your phone or other cameras at them.
Now the Ai features are still at infant stage, it is very useful for a Tourist. I recently did an international trip and it was able to identify many places and food items. Do translations of sign boards. It could read letters of different languages. You could do that with a phone too. But having it in your glasses are super convenient IMO. It can improve a lot. I believe Meta will add more features. But for me, it is something I can truely love to have with me all the time. I am big fan of these glasses.
The good thing about this ai being built into sunglasses is they leave your hands free to use and get important things done with the rabbit r1.
As sunglasses they avoid the legal problems like Google Glasses had of having a hidden camera in an indoor and likely private space vs outdoors which tends to be a public space.

The transitional glasses are worth the extra money to me. Sunglasses hut had buy a pair get the second pair 50% off. I paid full price for the Metas and got 50% off polarized prism Oakley Holbrooks. Oakley’s are for driving and Metas are for casual wearing.
I got the transition lenses and although I don’t need a prescription, I got bifocals since I’m almost 50. I wear them during surgery and document my procedures. Patients are always asking me to record part of their surgery and since these are hands free I can record a little clip to show them while my hands are in sterile gloves.
HIPPA compliant?
I have had these since they launched with prescription transition lenses. I wear glasses anyways, and these are now my daily drivers. I always have them on. If you’re willing to wear glasses full-time, there is no better form factor for AI integration into your life. I have the Rabbit R1 and it is no contest, the glasses are the best form factor.
I have the transition lens version. Regular glass indoor and sunglass outdoor.
It's funny how everyone is rushing to get these new product concepts out on the market regardless of bugs, but I think it's also great that so many people are pioneering these ideas. Baby steps.
These are competing in a more stablished market tho… Bose also offers some kind of Bluetooth sunglasses with phone connectivity.
As far as the data Apple and Google has access too: if you’re installing an app, they can request permission to anything on your phone. Genuinely curious about what other data you’re thinking would provide them such a big advantage
Only one camera on the left side the right side is an indicator light. You can buy the clear or transition glasses to use indoors.

The sensor is actually sideways, so it's not likely they will offer landscape natively. But in my experience, the quality is good enough that unless you need super high def, you can just capture a sixteen by nine crop and it works fine
I brougth one of thoses, and since I use prescription lenses, I went to a store near my house and request them a pair that fits on the glasses. It is much better now, I threw away the original dark lenses
Will you even need cameras on your glasses with more than 1080p resolution when you can upscale photos and videos cheaply to an arbitrary resolution?

I don’t like that we need to say “hey meta” to invoque the system it’s awkward like any vocal assistants.
I had the first raybam meta and the battery life was horrific and picture quality very low
And I had issues with pairing and audio was not as good as a open run pro conductor headphones
Facebook will be watching and listening to EVERYTHING you do.
I thought they only have one camera, not two. The other is a light sensor and LED. Also if you don’t want them as just sun glasses you simply buy transitions or clear, you can then use them all day. I have been using every day and use prescription transitions and they are great.

You can get prescription free GenS transition lenses that change based on ammt of sunlight. Completely clear indoors. You don't need a script for them.
This approach to AI will be the way to go soon. I will buy a product like this as soon as it's open source and my data and not FB.
My guess is that meta is trying to distance themselves from Google and their Google Glass / glasshole debacle. By making these an outdoor device they can minimize the problems with highly social interactions.

You don’t have to get them as sun glasses. Mine are basically clear frames. Slight blue tent that helps with indoor & outdoor use.
prescription lenses + transition lenses+simultaneous interpretation+mobile voice operation will make it more valuable in my opinion.“NOT REALLY REQUIED IN MY LIFE NOW”is correct.
Two things:
1. There's only one camera, the other side has a light sensor and led light for privacy reasons
2. I understand your dilemma of only wearing sunglasses when you go outside on a sunny day: my solution was to order them with transition lense but also no prescription because I barely need any prescription myself
3. New update let's you record up to 3 minutes continuously :)

I have the transition lens and they only make them for the black frames. I don’t like the transitions though. It doesn’t get dark enough for me especially in the car when I need them the most.
the only time i don't like using them is on sunny days in the car. i open the sun roof to get more clarity to darken the lenses on my transition meta's.

Anywhere. Ray Ban is Luxxotica, so you can go to any Ray Ban or Lenscrafters, but any optical shop can do it.
Hey Matt, the glasses come with transition lenses and even prescription lenses to cover the different use cases. Plus It has a camera on one side and an indicator light for the camera on the other which if covered, disables the camera functionality.
They can be used for live streaming as well as a POV Cam in whatsapp video calls.

I've been saying it for a long time, but VR/AR is the form factor we will be using with ai. It's perfect. It combines real world data and digital data in an almost seamless way.
It does so in a way that smartphones aren't as good as, or in the near future it will be that way

@@brianWreaves Oddly enough, that will be your world too. Just as modern society has adopted smartphones as a necessity, XR will be too.
Perhaps we can move away from the advertising model, or maybe we are stuck with it. Either way, the use cases for the advanced version of these combined technologies will over shadow the poison of advertisements, the same as how you swam through the sea of ads to be on your device to reply to me.
Smart phones will be useful in this new age for quite a while, but XR devices will become a better version of that, and as people realize this, smartphones will die off as flip phones did/are.
Like flip phones can do what smart phones do, but it's a much more inferior piece of tech....

That's cute that some hipster millennials are trying to go against the grain... I'm guessing they are taking some sort of stand against the "dangers" of social media, which a smart phone is much more than a social media device...it's also a very convenient banking system... I say good luck to them using T-9 and a tiny screen to achieve that...
If AI is the selling point, a BT earbud connected to a smartphone can work 24 hours instead of half a day because it is part of a pair of sunglasses.
I've got them too and find I never ask them anything. I've tried identifying plants with them and it says it can't do that. Have you checked yours to see if they can really do that? I'm hoping they have updates planned that will make them more useful. I do wish I had gotten the transition lenses so I could use them more inside.

Am I the only one that remembers “Google Glass” from 10 years ago? People with them rapidly became known as “Glass-holes”. Secretly recording video in inappropriate situations. Thinking Meta doesn’t want to know everything it can about you to sell your information. What a dreamer.
Should have used a photochromatic lens that auto-adjusts to the light conditions.
I really like Llama 3. It's fast and even did some things, which no llm has ever done and it surprised me.
This was great, I am blind and I use these glasses every day, like Meta's look and ask feature is really helpful for me as I can have it describe things around me, or if I pick up a snack or drink, I can just hold it in front of my face and ask what it is. The only thing I noticed is about the camera, there is only one, it's on the left, the one on the right is a little light that tells people you are taking pictures or recording, although I've been told by people that it's not very noticable. 10:54 10:54 10:54 10:54

First thought - transition lenses, a simple solution as long as they are high-quality 'transitioners.' The form factor is perfect - regular-looking glasses. Being black, one doesn't notice the cameras.
This looks SOOOO much more useful than the AI Pen or the Rabbit R1!

As a daily glasses wearer, I'd be concerned about the charging pad location. The nose bridge is often the dirtiest place on glasses as it slowly slides down over the day and scrapes oil and other gunk from your nose, which is already a place ripe with oils.
I'm hoping that the next location they choose will not be one with constant face contact. :)

Apple should have came out with Meta x Ray-ban kind of glassess instead of Vision Pro. I hope once they came out it in next 1-2 years after they cement the partnership with openAI. It would be awsome experience of such glass equiped with ChatGPT-4o. Glass will be killer for everyday life.

Okay, so we basically have Alexas attached to our faces. Whose sunglasses are gonna start recording if everyone's together and someone says "Hey, Meta, take a video"? Is it smart enough to filter only the person wearing them?
Yes because this thing has a 5-mic array, so it is smart enough to only responds to the person wearing it.
Great for biking on my Ebike. I can hear my music fine, and it's nice to have the video and AI along. So would be great for tourism, as they give me similar filming to my Insta360Go, if not quite the quality.
You make a very valid point. When your not using your sunglasses the product is pointless in the uk thats a lot 😅. Yes you can put prescription lenses in them but if you dont wear glasses that not going to work plus they are arguably too chunky for sungalsses imo.
I admit i fell for the hype, i told myself im gonna buy some of these for my holiday in july so i can leave my camera at the hotel. Dont get me wrong they are cool, sound quality is better than expecting but i decided to return mine for a few reasons.
The meta ai isnt avaiable in the uk atm and nobody really knows when thay will be reaolved which is highly disappointing.
Its limited to portrait view which is a shame
Because the camera is recorded from the left everything is offset
The limit of 1 minute recording isnt really enough for anything significant
For these reasons i have decided to return them. There is definitely potential with these type of products for the furure but they are not really worth the price tbh ill look forward to some future ones possibly with AR.

Great video! You're right about integration. I think they are starting to possibly integrate services. They are showing the ability to use service called "Calm" for wind-down time. I think in the future we will see more integrations. I would love to be able to take notes and also have a memory where you can ask about notes from the past or even simply set a timer. Once it does that it will really be more compelling. Still I'm amazed how fast the AI response is sometimes it's almost instant.

I don't use Facebook much but I'm sure they allow you to sync your contacts to Messenger. This might solve the text a message problem.

if you look online on the forum some people have similar experiences with the memory losses and I don’t know how many memories we can have but it seems rate limited and hard to set them all back at the same time so it is annoying

No HUD,AR or VR in this form factor is a deal breaker for me. I'd buy them if they had that. Agents would be great but by the time we have agents that can do what most people want we won't really need RUclipsrs giving us reviews either lol.

I’m a runner, so of course when I run, I sweat… I heard a few reviews that these are NOT water proof… would you recommend them or not? Bc I really want to get them boy not if they’re going to be ruined in my first few runs

Can't we get transition lenses, where they automatically go dark in bright light, but are clear when dim light ?
Transition lenses are the only way to use them throughout any situation, but then the battery isn't great so you've gotta charge em often
Big fan of my Meta Glasses, too. I was going to get transition lenses so I could use them indoors but the frames for these glasses are a bit 'gooberish' looking for regular glass wear, IMHO. But I am using them constantly outside and I particularly like working in my yard with them on and not having to rely on my AirPods, which would always fall out when I got the least bit sweaty. These glasses are a dream. And...like my Tesla that improves regularly with its OTA updates, so, too, do my Meta glasses. I've had them now since my daughter gave them to me for Xmas (which I had to send back and replace with prescription lenses) and the OTAs have bumped up their performance regularly, now allowing for AI, which is SO cool. Glad you mentioned these glasses here. I'm not a FB user either but I'm a little tempted now.
The Ray-Ban metaclasses are able to interact with your phone. You say on the video that you can only use WhatsApp or messenger. That is incorrect. You can make calls, second send messages, and activate your personal assistant like right from your phone to perform other tasks. You may want to Test things more thoroughly.
Limited AI Functionality:
The AI features, such as asking questions and getting real-time responses, rely on an internet connection. Poor Wi-Fi means these functionalities will either be slow or unavailable.
Photo and Video Uploads:
Importing photos and videos from the glasses to the app requires a stable internet connection. With poor Wi-Fi, this process will be slow, interrupted, or may fail altogether.
Real-Time Information:
Features that require real-time data, like weather updates or identifying objects, will only work effectively with a good internet connection.
Software Updates:
Keeping the glasses’ firmware and the companion app updated requires downloading data. Poor Wi-Fi can delay these updates, potentially affecting performance and security.
Can you use your phone Meta app as a remote button instead of saying Hey Meta or pressing the button on the glasses itself to take a pic?
Does Meta provide normal glasses versions (non-sunglaseses)? If so, that seems like the best option if you want to wear these all day long.
Matt over estimated my effort in the title. I wasn't thinking anything about why he likes them.
They could implement a "tech" solution to glasses tint. Obviously photoreactive lenses are not new. In sunlight they darken until you go back inside. I had them in the 1980's. They could also have lenses that are compound and one half of the lens - split so that it is really two lenses in a sandwich - where one "slides" or adjusts its relative angle to make the light moving through them change so that the lenses darken, as a feature. It could be a cool new "thing" about these gizmos. Every new gizmo needs all the "things" it can get. We want feature-packed with flawless performance. We want 007. ♠
No VR or AR? Not worth putting on the glasses even if they were prescription glasses.
Thanks for the review. You changed my mind and won’t buy them now😂. One with a HUD and live video interaction, like assistance when you’re building an ikea thing, etc. Now THAT would be something else. That gpt4o desktop vision but off-screen
