Decades ago, my best friend was a master's in dietetics. She was vegetarian, and bossy/ nagging, and convinced me to adopt a vegetarian lifestyle. I wasn't truly vegetarian as much as grainatarian. Lots of bread, rice, cereal and pasta. Soy milk, soy yogurt, soy butter. Egg whites, never whole eggs. Over 8 years on this diet, I gained 60 lbs, had chronic migraines, my period was irregular, I had terrible acne, I was hypothyroid, I suffered from hypoglycemia attacks. My friend insisted I needed to go completely vegan to regain my health. I broke up with the diet, and my friend. I began eating fish, then chicken, whole eggs, and beef. I went from 220lbs to 170lbs. All those chronic issues disappeared. I saw her recently and she is still very thin, however her skin is deeply wrinkled. Her lips are thin. She looks gaunt and much older than myself. The only reason I went along with her BS decades ago is because she often referenced her education and alleged expertise. I'm glad I got away from her, and started thinking for myself.

My wife is a RD. It is amazing the stuff she still believes. She acknowledges that the ADA is corrupt and that some of their advice is wrong but then she still holds the line. She thinks being on a bunch of medicines and having a bunch of health issues at age 40 is normal and to be expected. I'm just hoping she will wake up and realize that, at 46, I have reversed most of my health issues and almost down to my desired level of body fat.

They literally starved her to Death. Her teeth were crumbling when she died at 93. All the things going on were caused by a low or poor diet. Lack of vitamins , iron , herbs, teas, slowly starved her to her death. Children's pay attention to the whole treatments of your loved ones. Blessings

Normally the carers expect her to go to the diner for her dinner but this time they brought it to her room, just to make sure she was getting her assigned poisons.
She can’t communicate since having strokes, but was pointing at the dessert for me to have it. I turned it down and it went untouched. 🙌🏼

The truth is, carbs (especially processed carbs) are cheap and benefit care home profit margins. I saw this with my mother's care home, where she was for the last 18 months of her life. The meals were largely carbohydrate and processed. Even the 'meat' was highly processed and adulterated with soy and grains.

I am glad you were smarter than she was. My mom was in a care center 2 yrs ago for a few weeks (post medical issues and needing higher level of care), and the nurses at the center were checking her blood sugars AFTER she ate and were shooting her up with insulin. My mom was mentally out of it due to a head injury and didn't realize or even care at that moment. She was given a regular diet with sugary desserts on her tray. I called that manager and also spoke with the dietitian, and they didn't see anything wrong with her tray. They didn't even comment on the insulin and blood sugar timing. I pulled her out of that facility and had her move in with me (I'm a nurse) and was able to help get her sugars down again just with diet alone. No need for insulin when you feed a Type 2 Diabetic properly and check their sugars at the preprandial. She is back home with my Dad (he was sick at the time too) and they are both doing so much better.

I would have stopped eating carbs anyway but from then on I had something to say to well wishing friends and family.. When anyone says I can't stay on a low carb diet I say "my lab report said Im carbohydrate intolerant" and I get no more argument.

From the videos that I have watched, I gather that you slowly transition to a carnivore diet by changing one meal at a time giving your microbiome the chance to adapt to the new diet. And there is the "priming phase" where you eat as much meat products (beef, bacon, eggs, limited poultry, butter, ghee, cheese, full fat cream etc.) as you can and as many times as you can as this will set your body up for the "healing phase" where you will only require one or two meals. For most people, it is during the healing phase that they start losing weight but you might see your other conditions improve even during the priming phase.

I was on WWatchers most of my adult life (from 17-65). I was ALWAYS hungry....so I ate MORE fruits and veggies. Full for a minute, and back to starving. I almost fainted at my kids Little League game, so went to a DR. She (NP) said I was anorexic....and this was back in the mid 70's......she told me to eat a steak every night, (with a small salad). Now that I'm Carnivore (and no longer starving!!) I'm amazed that the NP simply knew on some level that I needed meat, way back then. (WWatchers advised us to eat meat in small amounts only 1-2x a week). I was THRILLED with her advice. I always craved meat, thinking there was something wrong with me!! In fact, back in those days, I sometimes caved, and binged out on meat, thinking I was crazy. Now that I'm Carnivore and 70...my kids (in their 50's) think I'm crazy...even tho I am much healthier than they are. They believe the machine, not Mom!

@Lydia4Jesus_ I believe that many in the medical community are taught the wrong things about diet and just believe those wrong things. Yes, there may be some who are just keeping us sick, but I believe the majority just don't know any better than what they've been taught. It's just like the whole LDL debacle...so many doctors freak out if it's high, and we're learning now that in most cases, high LDL by itself really isn't the problem that they thought it was all along.

Apparently she didn't bother to read my history, or she would've seen that I have lost 90 Lbs in the last few years. I still have about 30 lbs to go so she just read the label "morbid obesity" that's on my chart so what did she do? Ended the visit with a lengthy lecture about what I need to be eating: Mediterranean diet, low fat dairy, fruits, veggies, and "Ideally your diet should consist primarily of plant based foods."

My senior paper was about how sugar not fat was the problem. I mention tbe flawed Ancel Keys study. I received an A on paper, but never became a dietitian. Recently got a functnal nutrition certificate. Things have improved, but still pushing plant based, green smoorhies., etc. I started carnivore a few years ago for headaches and utis. Felt better. than back tracked and symptoms returned worse. My functional medicine doctor is advocating more vegies. I m back to high fat carnivore, figured I was iodine deficient, Now foiwing iodine dosing proticols and starting to feel alive. Doctor recommended 125mcg of iodine. I am up to 25 mg. Doctors do not always know best. The iodine piece, so important. I also had breast cancer 7 years ago. Cancer treatments are medical malpractice.

Adrenal fatigue and boat loads of stressful circumstances through my life.
Got past the barriers of what I was being taught and started carnivore 2 months ago.
I had a “holy grail” moment 2 weeks ago and I’ve been sleeping 6-7 hours. No more anxious brain or brain fog. I cried tears of happiness.
Close friends are noticing that even under stress of a new job that my mood is consistently better.
Life is much more simple now. Life doesn’t revolve around food, easy to cook a bunch of meat to meal prep, less cupboard space needed, sustained energy. I’m no longer “fighting” to get along daily in life.
Thanks for all the info it’s supported me in sticking with it in the beginning. People need to know especially when there is corruption / misinformation in the medical “systems”.

We have no private alternative, and I will not submit to the standard rekommendations. At 2007 I had a good work together with a wise MD who encouraged me to let some patients eat Paleo-keto-style. Great healthresults! Even lifesaving results for some of them. But interesting reactions from other dieticians… they wanted me to stop these advice, and were angry at me. Well, it all ended with me getting another job and continue to tell people around me how to eat to maintain health. Sorry to say, but most people are uninterested to make changes needed, or say its too hard even to try. Keep up the good work. God bless❤

Perhaps there is something similar in your next of the world - perhaps you can 'practice' your skills legally outside of the standard locations. However, at the root of all this 'advice' is strictly the person who either wants to make change or chooses not to --

With people going plant based, they are cutting out a lot of processed food and have early success - even with that cut alone. With Carnivore, they are cutting out toxins of plants and that brings success. With carnivore, it is a more advanced level than going plant-based because the plant based eaters still have those toxins. I don't know how long you've been studying these diets and results but I see that the plant based end up having to add meat back to regain their health. Scientists were able to capture the sound though. I listened to it and sounds like a rhythmic clicking noise. I just thought it was interesting that plants audibly display distress, so you aren’t getting a pass by eating just plants either. I’m keto and not carnivore so I do eat vegetables, but plants don’t want to be eaten either which is why they have chemicals that may cause distress in your body when you eat them.

Always been told I can't exclude any food groups, including junk food, such as biscuits and pizza, as apparently that's what eating “normally” is. At some point, I quit trying and settle with the thought that I will be always on and off binging. Although my physical health was never too bad - considering the long history of ed - my mental health started to plummet at some point, with alternating episodes of depression and severe anxiety. I came across ketogenic diet and its benefits for mental health about two years ago, and decided to give it a try. For the first time in my life, I was able to eat when I'm hungry and forget about food between the meals, which is an amazing feeling for someone who was obsessing about eating/not eating 24/7. I wonder how many people with ed, who struggle to get better with conventional solution, would benefit from this approach. My doctor said "let's just keep an eye on it and see what happens , do you want an appointment with the Nutrition Department?" I said sure. When they called, I didn't call back. I have very little faith in conventional/institutional Nutritionists. Besides, I had been a gym rat for many years of my life, with lots of nutritional knowledge as it relates to exercise, weight control and strength training. I wasn't stupid, and I immediately knew that I just had to bear down and do the right thing. My old school thinking was that to not be diabetic I had to stop being a fat slob. I am 5'6" and I weighed 188.9 pounds. I began by trying a method that a lady friend who was younger than me had used with great success. She called it "Intermittent Fasting." Ever heard of it? I now prefer to refer to it as "time restricted eating". It is much more accurate and it sounds much less ominous. I started at 16 hours of fasting and an 8 hour window of eating. With time, the window became smaller and smaller, as did my portion sizes AND the ratio of carbs to proteins/fats. I eventually eliminated almost all sugar and most carbs. No bread, pasta, potatoes or rice. I began to lose weight immediately. By August I had lost 28 pounds. By September my A1C was 5.2. Below even pre-diabetes. I was stuck at just over 160 lbs since last summer. I wanted to get to my optimal BMI...154 lbs or less. 2 days ago I started Dr Berry's 30 day carnivore fat loss hack. Beef, bacon, butter and eggs. I'm already down to 159 (3rd day in) and I am no longer experiencing the dawn effect (unexplained high morning glucose) and my glucose readings are lower in general. I believe I'm going to do it!

I felt like crap all the time. I was constipated, tired, and anxious all the time. I developed seizures in high school. My teammate died of a heart attack on the field. I stopped playing soccer after that. I knew something was wrong. I gained 40 pounds by the time I graduated college. I missed quite a few classes because I also had gerd and back and joint pain. I had high triglycerides, pre-diabetic, had ibsd, had elevated liver levels, was on statin drugs, and I had seizures for nearly 2 decades until I was diagnosed with celiac disease. It was bad. I avoided gluten and felt better and lost a bit of weight. My dad died of Lewy Body dementia a few years ago, so I did a lot of research about it and discovered this channel and others like it. After 1 year of being on a low carb diet, my bloodwork is normal, I'm off statins, lost 30 pounds, and I'm seizure free. I feel a lot better, and for the first time in 20 years, I played soccer again, but instead of playing with people my age, I played with my sons. Long story short, that high carb diet kills people of all ages, and it nearly killed me, and we were fit and young. If you're on a high carb diet, then get off it immediately! It is killing you. I try to eat less than 60 grams per day, and I have a lot more energy, feel stronger, and I'm more focused now than I did when I was younger.

I help run a weekly food pantry out of our church and I am so grateful that the North Alabama Food Bank allows us to purchase frozen meat and chicken every week for 14 cents a pound--that helps pay for the cost of the building and pay employees. We have also stockpiled canned meat in our pantry just in case there's another week the food bank doesn't have meat.

I love the idea of donating canned meat/fish to food banks! Such a positive way to help others, rather than the pastas and rice I donated before keto/carnavore.

That is so very true!! I went through a brief period in my life where I made use of food banks. It was almost all carbs! Pasta, rice, beans, bread, some canned vegetables. Protein? If you were lucky you would get a dozen eggs, meat of any kind was VERY rare.

I agree, anorexia is a condition in itself.Separate from the others bulimia goes hand in hand. I became a clinical nutrition in my twenties for these very reasons to figure out what was wrong with me.

Also a lot of this is a mental condition that needs to be treated. I remember losing a hundred and twenty pounds when I was fifteen and I was terrified to get it back and that started this cycle for me.
Eating meat does not correct mental health problems. But for people that could only eat one food group it helps.

Many elderly lose weight too fast bc all of their medications make them nauseous. If fed properly, they wouldn't need so many meds (if any) and they'd thrive longer.

    - physically and mentally older than my calendar age,
    - in terrible arthritic pain 24/7,
    - being overweight.
    - having an a sundry of autoimmune “disease” conditions including D2.
Please keep up the good work …. the struggle is real.

What you describe about food banks is exactly what I watched with both my mother and mother in law. Both passed away from cardiovascular disease, one from stroke and one from CHF. EVERY time I took either of them to the food bank, they came out with cupcakes, cookies, and all the carb loaded ultra refined and ultra processed foods with tons of extra chemicals.

If you really want an eye-opener, try talking to an entire department full of faculty who teach nutrition. The dogma is strong. To get real change, we need to change what’s being taught to nutritionists and doctors. Doctors may not change, but I think there is potential to change dietetic curriculum.

THANK YOU SO MUCH for this interview! I worked in the nutrition field (public health- access to food and nutrition education- the last 16 years with older adults) for 30+ years. About 20 years ago I learned that carbs were not my friend, and did Atkins with great success. Now doing low carb/keto. I got into some heated discussions about why the Dietary Guidelines for Americans allowed 75 gm of carb per meal……Glad to hear about Michelle’s project to get some recognition of the benefits of low carb/keto!!

Been keto for 4 years and tended to eat a lot of cheese because I like and it is an easy way to get my fat high. Tried stopping cheese and it was causing some inflammation. Over and over I find I have to keep listening to my body. This morning my ketones were 2.1 and my gl was in the 80s. I feel pretty good for an 80 year old.

I’m grateful for this content. My doctor is supportive of keto/low carb and I’m managing to navigate this new lifestyle, bringing my A1c down from 7.6 to 6.7 in 3 months and losing over 20 pounds. I’ve stalled and beginning to recognize I cannot tolerate hardly any carbs. I soon realized that while my doctor is supportive, she doesn’t have much advice when I hit snags, so information gathering and trial and error are up to me. It’s apparent I need to go carnivore for awhile to get to the rest of my goals. Thanks again.
