I am 75 and watch about 15 to 20 different sailing channels and I would like to recommend that you edit your sound 30% higher than you normally hear it as there are quite a few of us that are Hearing Impaired and rely on our Earphones. (It's 'Yeach' watching with the Captions on as they're distracting) Look forward to your next adventure with sound corrected. Regards from Cape Town, South Africa _*

My only advice is to not remove, rip out, change anything until you have done a year of sailing and know what you like, dislike, need to have v want to have etc.
You have a solid all be it older yacht to work with so no need to rush.

This is solid advice. I really like how you are happy to listen to experts too. One thing I cringe at is new to sailing RUclipsrs creating ‘how to videos’. I get it but as someone that’s sailed for 50 years at a high level I can say I’m still learning so framing it as ‘this is what we did, still learning’ sits much more comfortably to watch. ‘How to’s’ also invite arm chair experts. Good luck navigating that.
You will never regret buying a pilot house cruiser. I own a 48’ Pilot house cruiser and the ability to see all around you while both a sea and anchor you will love. Even the ability to get out of the weather to observe and make sensible decisions while underway is a feature that most don’t think about. Great choice of boat. The cutter rig is perfect. well done.

Just a heads up. There will be lots of people telling to to give up. lots of naysayers lots of people telling you what you are doing wrong. IGNORE all these people they will only serve to discourage you and bring you down. Hold fast to your dream. Love knowledge and embrace your failures for they will lay the foundations for all your success. You will be spending a lot of time together so it will serve you well to remember that conflict is meant to drive you apart. When this happens band together, put the problem out in front of the both of you and come up with a solution you can both get behind and kick ass.

I actually watch another English couple Zac&Becca who did what you are doing, they are currently in the Panama just over a year since they bought their boat, they started off just like you two, so I'm going watch along as you get your boat to the way you want it and sail the big blue, best of British luck as they say,. Wow, you guys are really green and that is a large 1st yacht. Please do not be too ambitious or eager to do long offshore trips without experienced crew. I am a master mariner and the sea has been my home for well over 40 yrs. That said, electronic navigation and communications make the prospect of longer voyages a less daunting adventure these days. Stay safe and happy cruising!
We sure are - yes she is a good size but is going to be a full time liveaboard and we wanted something substantial for when we do our ocean passages in the future. Lots of smaller coastal trips to be done first and we fully respect the sea - we will take our time with the process ☺️ Thank you!⛵️

How exciting! The best days of a boat owner's life are the day they buy her and the day they sell her. In between those two days is a lifetime of outstanding memories that few people get to experience. IMO, there is nothing like spending some time in your life at sea, it is both exhilarating and humbling. She appears to be a custom built 48" Franchini sloop. I don't know anything about Franchini yachts but I'm sure you will teach us all in time, I'd love to know the history of the boat. I look forward to a video tour of your new home. Congratulations!
PS: The first thing I'd buy before heading offshore is a cheap but rugged laptop and an Iridium GO satellite receiver with a subscription to Predict Wind. It's money well spent.
Haha! We have heard this saying many times… but also the point on it becoming a lifetime of experiences. We are ready for the rollercoaster that is to come that’s for sure! I think it's incredibly admorable, seeing such a young couple wanting to take on such a challenge.
I'm 27 and have sailed for fun most of my life, liveraboard isn't really an option for me as my wife just can't find her sea legs (horrendous sea sickness).
My only suggestion is to take your time. Start doing small trips sticking to coastal waters, then consider more challenging voyages.
As an experienced sailor, I personally think you're doing the right thing. You're clearly doing your research and planning as much as possible.
Finally, try and book yourselves on as many sailing courses as you can as it they will only help you.
Fair winds and calm sea's, and I look forward to seeing how you peogress.
P.s I would deffinetly give an email or something so you can get some advice of more experienced sailors. RUclips and especially the people in the comments, have a wealth of knowledge.
Thank you so much, we have spent a lot of time researching and learning about what would suit us best she’s a big boat but vary sea kindly and will make for a lovely live aboard. We are definitely getting plenty of costal cruising in before any large passages. We are going to get some more courses under our belts. Possibly on our boat if possible. We have put our email in our bio incase anyone wants to pass on knowledge and we’ve had lots of it so far everyone has been so amazing including yourself. I can’t tell you how many times I try to watch a sailing channel and then get immediately annoyed by the people in it but you guys are great, very casual and laidback, no in-your-face or over the top nonsense, and extremely honest.
It probably helps that you’re not American (I’m allowed to say this)
Anyway please make videos like this of all the journeys you take, it’s rare I subscribe to a sailing channel but here we go

I first sailed a cutter 12 years ago. I lived on board for 9 months sailing around NZ and Tonga. I'll never forget it. I made some amazing friends and met some of the most interesting people.
It was the first time I'd sailed and I've been hooked ever since, but only able to live my dream through RUclips content.

Good people, good boat, good plan. You have a steep learning curve at the beginning, of course, but you know that, so it’s no problem. The learning curve flattens out, but never completely, luckily. 😅 Talking from over 50 years of experience here. We also live on our boat, a cat, and love it.

Sailing is one of those great adventures where it's always changing and there's always something new. Between weather changes , water conditions, current, endless new geographical locations... there will always be surprises. In 20 years you will still be thinking it's an experience in never knowing what you're doing. That's a truism from another RUclips channel I just watched.

Just brilliant ,,, from experience ,,, if you both get your sea legs then that is a winner , take every opportunity to get out sailing , to live aboard unless you are very wealthy ,learn everything about living at anchor ,, it’s very very expensive trying to live from Marina to marina I can assure you , the Med is very different from Greece ,, if you can sail around the uk and northern france safely and competently you will be able to sail anywhere . Hope you both stick with it and become sailors ,, good luck to you both , can’t wait for all your vlogs . From a fellow Lancastrian now living on land in Brittany ..
Great, thank you! Yes living on anchor is the plan; we will only use marinas when absolutely necessary. We are wanting to do a lot of off grid sailing in the future when we feel fully competent. We will get lots of experience before we head out and we aren’t looking to rush anything so will take things day by day☺️ Thanks again for the comment😁
