BOAT WORK Vol 2. Fitting STARLINK & MacMini on our SAILBOAT
EP 7
After months of waiting we finally settle into our berth at Glasson dock, ready to tackle a whole host of jobs over the winter and into the spring.
No sooner than we entered, there was a storm on the way, coincidently named Storm Ashley. So it was time to invest in new mooring lines and prepare for gusts forecast up to 80mph.
With Eloise able to work from home more it was imperative we got a wifi connection we could really rely on.
So it was time to install Starlink, kindly gifted to us by Edward (Els brother).
The last thing on the list was to address our computer situation. we have a 2016 Macbook that would not allow us to render in high quality and would crash regularly during edit...

In this video we FINALLY move Sea Gypsy to her new home for the Winter. If you have been here from the start you will know this has been a long time coming and is another big step in our journey. Being in Glasson Dock means that we can live ...
STRANDED at SEA on our FIRST SAIL ALONE!
Просмотров 43 тыс.2 месяца назад
Join us this week as we head out on our first ever sail ALONE from Fleetwood Marina to Piel Island. This was a much anticipated trip and we were so excited to blow off the cobwebs and get out into the open water. Although, this journey didn’t quite go to plan, with a smoking engine and finding ourselves stuck in the channel, it couldn’t have been anything further away from what we had imagined ...
BOAT WORK Vol 1. TEAK RESTORATION of 30 year old SAILING YACHT
Просмотров 32 тыс.3 месяца назад
Join us this week as we tackle our first big project on our 48ft Franchini sailboat; restoring the teak wood on our toe rails, cockpit, and our fold down stern seats. In this video, we figure out the best process for this, which includes a LOT of sanding, come rain or shine. We learnt a lot over this week, and we felt we reaped the rewards of our work after seeing the finished result. ✨ Support...
FUTURE PLANS to LIVE OUT our SAILING DREAMS and HIDDEN SURPRISES
Просмотров 34 тыс.4 месяца назад
Join us this weekend as we get stuck into boat work on our Franchini 45L, which we purchased in February 2024 as complete beginners with big dreams! We enjoyed the beautiful summer solstice this weekend on board and set to on some odd jobs which have been on our tick list. We got down and dirty in the bilges, found some hidden surprises, re-organised the galley and attempted to fix one of our h...
We're SHOCKED at how RARE our BOAT is!
Просмотров 39 тыс.5 месяцев назад
In this video we delve into a bit more about the boat and ourselves. Getting on top of the first of many jobs whilst still in Fleetwood Marina, but desperately eager to get ourselves and the boat to Glasson and really get stuck into boat work. We pull out some old blueprints and discover how rare our model of boat actually is. We hope you enjoy! ✨ Support our journey: [Buy Me a Coffee] - buymea...
The BEST but CRAZIEST decision we have EVER made: Couple buys 48ft SAIL BOAT!!

After having the idea 12 months ago, and at that point we had never stepped foot on a sailboat, we took the plunge. We got our skippers license and bought the boat of our dreams. My Da’ put me onto your journey. Look forward to seeing your adventure. Have a wild time 🙏❤️
Hi, I have a little boat at glasson.. I popped over today to see if you were around to say hi! The boat is awesome in real life well done and good luck on the channel!!
I really enjoy your channel and the challenges you’re sure to face. Please keep up the good work and enjoyable content. Learn, live and have fun! Cheers, Bill from Tacoma Washington USA
Well done. Good work! I love the fearless way you both tackle any job. Always the best way to learn 😊
My Saturday nights have really transformed! I thoroughly enjoyed this fantastic video and left wanting more. It’s not like Ash to cut himself, haha! It's great to see you both getting hands-on with the work. You'll have everything shipshape in no time! Can’t wait to see the next big projects you tackle!
Another great video, such a shame it’s only one a month don’t forget a gland for the starlink cable you don’t need wet in the roof , look forward to your updates just a brilliant Chanel and in the words of Bruce Forsy my favourite 😂❤
Top work team I did a full review of the star link on our channel for our caravan and found it to be life changing! Word to note if you have neighbours close by charge them to use your starlink to bring some money in, maybe help towards monthly costs? It reaches quite far . Keep up the faith and enjoy doing your projects over the winter summer spring will soon be here
I'm glad the breakers blew; lifting an electric tool that is live out of the water sounds a bit dangerous.
Hey - just sent you an email :)
Brilliant guys hope you have endless fun around the world
Another great video, love you guys so much! So inspiring! Please keep sharing!
Loving your posts...I have same age boat at Portishead and at same stage.....great desk idea....your Den looks so cosy ❤❤
Lovely boat! - Take your sailing step by step and you'll never regret the whole experience! :)
2 yrs to go until me and the musses go cruising Ill be watching youuz and learning along the way And i hope to see you guys one day in paradise
Great work guys just remember to keep your stitches dry for longer than on Land ie wear rubber gloves for a few days etc your both doing great thank for the updates stay safe Malc uk 🇬🇧
good work again guys coming along nice you both very capable at getting stuff done and a joy to watch very camera friendly keep the updates coming on your next adventures
Guys, absolutely love your vids. Tip from an old saltie, run your engine for at least half an hour before departure (after pre-passage engine checks/exhaust checks) in neutral at forward circa 500 engine revs. This will normally unveil any major engine issues before your passage. You probably already know this.😂 Wishing you two very happy and safe sailing. Looking forward to the next vids.
And get a splice needle so you can splice loops in the lines rather than tie knots... Knots establish points of weakness in the cordage.
Typical that Apple bring out a new Mac mini after you install this one. Still, it’ll be future proof I’m sure! Great video as always guys. Really enjoying the content.
What a brilliant 1st look at your upcoming adventures, only just found the video but liked and subscribed. Looking forward to following your time onboard.
Another great bit of work removing old redundant electronics, just make sure you remove all of the old cables as it makes future work so much easier
Lovely to see you progressing. Will you attach the monitor to an arm so you can swing it round when you're watching TV? Also, if you can stream Nav stuff etc to the iPad you ought to be able to stream to the Mac too? Keep up the good work and try not to chop anything off yourselves!! 🙂
Great work guys, looking forward to seeing more, cheers
Hello, you two! Quite some progress in this episode. Also, I do agree with the other comments on the cable gland and on the screen blocking. That is vital! I have no experience in tidal waters, but if one day you move on to the Med, you will need at least 4 big stainless steel springs for your lines. Keep going strong. Best regards, Silvano
Another smashing update both. Don't know what it is, but you are both a real pleasure to watch. Very interested to watch your onward journey... and I know it is a lot of work producing RUclips videos and also I said this in a comment previously, but would love to see more updates from you. Keep up the great work both.
Brilliant video again guys - so look forward to what's to come.
Great film guys! Don't worry, give it a couple of years and you won't be able to sleep unless your bed's rocking and you can hear the waves gently slapping on the hull.
Y’all are so fun to watch
Great job on reworking the chart table space. Definitely the way to go. Just one word of caution about having the screen on a swing out arm. Suggest you have a means of locking the arm/ screen rigid. Just imagine beating to windward in a decent sea way. If you are relying on a single screen you don't want it swinging loose as you fall off big waves and beating itself to death.
You’ll need a ‘Waterproof Cable Gland’ for the cable to run through on the deck. You can get them in chrome plated brass, not expensive. ⛵️
This.
Your channel has so much potential going forward!. The work station area looks good. Does the electronic gear need isolation/ protection from the pitching and impact of the waves at sea? Looking forward to the next video 👍👍
Another great video and like how you go about tackling your upgrades. As a retired sparkie i have used many things as draw tapes but a fishing rod is a new one on me. I presume you did use a stuffing gland on the roof where the cable went through to stop leaks and chaffing. Carry on the good work and thanks for sharing with us.
You've got a great boat for your plans there. I'm looking forward to seeing your progress.
How fast did I jump on your video… been waiting for your update.. 🎊🎊🎊
hey, good luck you guys, think big and go for your goals, look what zak and becca have achived , absolutly no reason why you cant do the same x
Absolutely love every single video. I also love how its a British couple < 3 Best of luck.
Check out sailing yacht Florence also teulu tribe
Brilliant with the desk. Legend idea for the chafe protection on the lines.
Good to see the fishing rod getting some use again hahaha!
Great video as usual but guys the sound was quite low struggling to hear the commentary
Where is your knee pads lad god you youngsters don't learn nothing
Maybe next time you're strapped them down so they can't fall off the
Your awning looks like it needs a good clean, you need a bigger tender just imagine you have a problem when you want to see I'm both of you've got to get in that tender you're not big enough
Great videos. My wife and I are about to embark on the same kind of journey. Keep it up! Do you guys have a Patreon?
We love our stovetop espresso thingie & milk frother! They work great and hardly take up any room!
Hi, to both of you! I'm not a sailor and at my ripe old age of close to 65, I'm probably past the point of beginning, but I just wanted to say that I came upon your RUclips channel and was really wonderfully inspired by your courage, common sense and togetherness, in working towards your goals! I hate to say this, but there is so much negativity said about the younger generation that to see your videos and hear of your plans makes me want to state - well done! Keep going and I for one believe that you will do many great things together! A couple of final points. I've watched, (I think) all of your videos so far, but it would be helpful for new viewers if you were to catalogue the videos in order. Also, forgive me if I'm wrong, but I have not seen or heard anything about your backgrounds, what jobs you do/did, what practical skills training you've had etc. Thought this might be good for viewers to know, because when viewing my first impression is that you clearly have some knowledge and skills and whilst Google is great, there is nothing quite like doing it yourself to learn! Keep the videos coming. Can't wait for you to set sail again!!
Welcome to Glasson guys. I’m one of your neighbours there. I’ll pop and say hello when I’m there next. I have the light blue camper and Nicholsons 39 being refitted on the hard, on the left as you come in through the gates. Good luck. If you need a hand with anything I’m there most weekends. Take care Steve
Well done, especially getting in that cold water! A couple of tips though, wear closed toed shoes when running around the deck, not Crocks though, to slippery. Also, soak a rag or sponge with vinegar and wipe that dodger to make that mold magically disappear. Good luck with your adventures and remember to do engine checks every so often looking for water and oil leaks, use a flash light.
Really enjoy watching your videos. She looked like she was ready to quite on the first sail home...lol. I can promise the hard work is worth it. Especially when you need to do a repair at sea, you will know your vessel inside and out. Can't wait to watch your future adventures together.
crazy, but the best idea
Lovely to see your progress
