    We had a teacher who was supposed to do the whole stranger danger thing, and instead she just coldly told the class "there are people who want to kidnap children and they use tricks to lure kids like you away from others. Many times those kids are never found. Don't go go with anyone you don't know". And damn that stuck with me and the entire class far more than "Capricorn the fugly alien wants to tell you to say no to free video games". Like what

      it’s kind of a victim-blaming attitude to some degree as a campaign. You do have to teach kids street smarts. Women like myself also learn specific street smarts. but if you are a child in particular, you really dont have a lot of power in the situation and most of the time you as the victim could not really have prevented it. Society as a whole has to take more responsibility for things like listening to kids when they say they are being abused at home and actually following through on stopping that abuse. Learning street smarts is essential and vital, but so is being realistic about how adults have to step up.

    In Canada in the early 80s there was a shocking and high profile case of a man who murdered a girl after inviting her to a photo shoot. He called the victim and no one checked or confirmed his ID. She went alone, with her parents' permission! This was so traumatic for them that they started the "Stay Alert, Stay Safe" program. But as tragic as this event was, it was in fact exceedingly rare and not indicative of a crime wave of strangers attacking children.

    • @TheZephyrsWind
      @TheZephyrsWind 5 лет назад +18

      Slightly attractive. Not my personal preferences but I don't really care what a woman looks like if she's a good person.
      Still, yeah, women are also guilty of trying to exploit children. Not just children, 4 women actually tried to (r word) me at my job 14 years ago as there were no Male employees but 1, & he was off that day. I was much stronger back then so I could lift them off me, but it became tiring especially since 1 was at least 300lbs. However, my friend, the 1 other guy just strolled in that day to pick up something & helped me. He was a little stronger than me so he could help get the heavy 1 off while I got the others off me & then we just ran. Stupid women didn't seem to care there were cameras watching that the boss would see the next day after I called him that night to tell him. My boss knew me well & respected me so he believed it, but said we'd need evidence before anything could be done. Glad they were too dumb to attack me in a place where they couldn't be seen on the cameras as there were some places out of site, where if I had any control over I'd have had 2 more cams put up to keep those areas safe.
      Most men won't admit being abused or worse by women as it nearly always turns into other men going "HAHA a woman did that to you & you didn't like it? Pathetic!" I never cared what people thought of me after age 16 or so, so I just admitted it & they got in trouble, hopefully never working with any men again. Besides, working with the other gender can lead to distractions & temptation (or same gender if you're like that). Fortunately, ever since about age 23 I haven't had much of a sex drive & the whole checking women out when they walk by is a foreign concept to me, like dipping a banana in ketchup. I do still like women & find no attraction to men, do that's not it, rather adiseasee I have has effects that (not ED) cause loss of libido. I don't mind & don't want to get that treated for now, but if I marry then I'll look to have it treated. I'm 31 in July so that's a little past normal age for marriage, especially since my parents & grandparents each married in their teens (grandpa on dad's side married at 18 & my grandma at the time was... technically a teen, I guess laws were different then since the court still married them?).

    So the hero trap happened to me, but I was 19. Woman approached me in walmart and said she was a Mary Kay rep and wanted some head shots for her catalog. "I always have some kits with me and if you come out to my car, I'd love to take some pics." Legit had class in an hour so I said no. Once when i was on a field trip with my class and we were walking in a line allong a street, an old lady we walked past looked at my group and said "oh, where are you kids going today?" and i said the english equivalent of "Shut up you old hag" because she was a stranger making inqueries to us kids.

    I was almost kidnapped as a kid. The story goes as follows:
    I was next to a playground and was walking around with my dad and my sister. Suddenly, this black Minivan with borderline illegally tinted windows pulls up right in front of us. The door opens and someone tosses out a colorful ball.
    I, being the saint I was, ran over to pick up the ball and give it back as I assumed it fell out. I didn’t know it then but these people were dropping it as a lure so they could grab me and book it. Luckily, my dad was faster than I was and reached the van before anything could happen.
    It must have been quite awkward for the would-be kidnappers knowing damn well their plan was foiled, but having to patiently wait until I hand them the ball with my dad staring daggers at them to leave.

See we were taught from elementary school the USSR was going to nuke us all at any moment all through the 80s so by the time Stranger Danger hit it was a relief. Those were adults we had a good chance against. Unlike all those Satanic cults sacrificing kids left and right according to the talk shows (also all BS).
      Of course Stranger Danger was a con job that protected the real predators because whenever kids came forward with stories about predator priests and preachers and teachers and cops they were always dismissed as liars because everyone (adults) knew only strangers hunted kids. It may not have started as a propaganda tool to protect child predators but they certainly used it to great advantage.

      My dad never even let me on the street, & thus I never even had an encounter with a stranger. Dad always kept me in sight or next to him, & I was smart enough as a child to realize there are bad adults who would use things like candy or games to trick me & do whatever. So I never tried sneaking out when he was asleep or seeing my friends playing outside of their parent's sight & asking dad to let me do so too. I just figured they had crappy parents, & yeah, they did. One had a mom who just decided to leave her husband & child behind because she was bored... nice. Same happened to a girlfriend I had, but it was her dad leaving them behind. I was in a long distance relationship with her, but if I'd been close enough I'd have tracked him down & left him crippled permanently, also without the use of his crotch so he'd need a stoma (read up on that, not fun) & couldn't even find another woman.

    The sad fact that these "stranger danger" videos ignore is that something like 90% of children who are abducted or sexually abused aren't the victims of strangers but of people they know (even family members) and a lot of the "stranger danger" stuff I was taught as a kid were also quite racist and classist and made the assumption that all child abductors and abusers were men (usually "hippies" "hobos" "bikers" or truly rank ethnic stereotypes) who hung out in arcades, video rental outlets and even the library) At least these videos don't perpetuate such stereotypes (instead, we have a visitor from another world and his savvy Black friend who warns him of danger). Incidentally, I DID get dragged into the bushes and mogadored on several occasions by an unkempt, uncouth ethnic man who used to be in a biker gang, but I was in my late twenties and thirties and the sex acts were entirely consensual because he was my husband.
