I had trouble with this foundation (the velvet one in the black square bottle) when I first bought it. I have normal skin, but I think it does need a light moisturizer underneath. I found applying with a sponge, damp or dry, works best. It truly does have a gorgeous finish, slightly matte without looking dry, never settles into lines or pores. I need no powder over it and it looks gorgeous all day. I’m not a foundation snob, I wear a lot of drugstore brands…but this Chanel foundation is worth every penny.

I have tried both. The velvet is dryer and does not hide anything. Ultra le Teint is great, even for dry skins like mine, although it has great coverage, it feels like nothing on the skin. It's my new favorite!
The both look nice but the velvet looks a tad darker or maybe warmer. It's hard to say what the difference is but there is a slight difference. Thanks for the comparison. I've used velvet before but not the Le Teint.

I'm so glad I found this video because - I have just found my PERFECT Summer foundation shade match!!! 😊😊😊 I bought 2 other travel friendly foundations for Summer that were too light, wanted to try the Chanel Ultra Le Teint Velvet, and BR32 is absolutely my MATCH for Summer. I'm sure BR22 will be perfect for Winter. Previously I'd been using all B30's from Chanel, which also seem to work, but thr Rosy undertones absolutely 💯 blends in to my skin like a dream!! Hi Abby, I know this video is not new, but I'm watching and enjoying anyway. I think the foundation on YOUR left side has what you might call a "Natural Matte" appearance, skin-like only smooth and silky. Before you put any other makeup products over it, it's very lovely. The other one is pretty too, of course. Thanks for this demo and all the others particularly the Chanel.
I always enjoy your content, and this was a special treat. Thank you always for your grace and knack for creating interesting content. I have the earlier version of the Chanel Perfection Lumiere Velvet in my collection, and adore the finish. My only caveat is that I cannot wear it for more than two consecutive days without irritation and peeling around my muzzle, I formerly blamed the alcohol content (combo skin, but dry in those areas because I use tretinoin). However, now that you mention it, perhaps it’s the chemical sunscreen that is my irritant. I’m not currently having any problems with the gorgeous Sisley foundation, which I was inspired to try after your review. You are so brave for wearing a cream-toned turtleneck during this review.

OMG you guys!! I was at Walmart yesterday picking up some car cleaning wipes, contact solution, and some band aids (you know, usual Walmart stuff🤣) and I noticed they has some GORGEOUS sweaters!!! Mustard, blush pink, burgundy, and that deep reddish orangey shade!!! I had to buy a bunch. I'm NOT a Walmart clothes girl (I'm a goth and any clothes that arent "goth" have to be very particular, they cant just be normal and boring) but the sweaters they have right now are great and I highly recommend!!!!

Thanks for a thorough comparison. I use the Velvet formulation now, albeit my skin is drier with age. But I did not want to have to powder my foundation as I did with Vita Lumiere because of the “mask” wearing now. All those layers under the mask is a mess under there. Perhaps you can do a video on makeup for “mask” wearing, since we can’t seem to get away from it, especially lipsticks. As well as a “travel” makeup tutorial would be interesting too.
The Ultra Le Teint appears more luminous or glowy, the Velvet is more matte but there is still some luminosity, it’s not flat. It appears to be more skin-like, more real in appearance; there seems to be dimension or natural shadow to the face. Interesting how it works still for dry skin, Perfection Lumiere Velvet did too 😊

Another great one! Yes, the right side did look more radiant but I loved it!! Haven't gotten to try anything chanel yet. Trying to get prepared for the detox!!! I'm overwhelmed with all the literature! I've also gotta get on Facebook so I can chat with you guys. I'm amazed at this detox because I was diagnosed in 2015 with colorectal cancer. It became metastatic in 2017 into both lungs. I'm now 51. I was diagnosed at 47. So this is just the right beginning detox for me!!!! I've got lots to of questions Abby. Tanya- I honestly feel like the Sublimage is a skin treatment versus these guys feel like foundations. Does that make sense? The Sublimage is housed in the cream and it feels like that on my skin- whereas at the end of the day- the two feel like makeup. I like them and they have a time and place in my day to day life, but when my skin needs some TLC - I reach for the Sublimage! xoxo

Hi Abby! Would love a Chanel Foundation101! I think both looked really pretty but still different. I guess that's why we have 100 foundations! Lol! The more the merrier! One of these days I'll be ready for the Detox. I recently did a no sugar low carb diet for 10 weeks and I honestly felt like s*@! Couldn't sleep, "things were NOT working "downstairs", I was miserable. I'm sure there is a "right way" of doing it and I probably wasn't doing it like I should. As of now I am back to the sugar and still low carbs and feel much better. I must say that I DID stick to it for 10 weeks....didn't falter at all. So maybe one day I will try this. The black bottle ultra .... Is the same as the old black bottle perfection Lumiere velvet. The formula has not been changed chanel wants to brand their foundations as "ultra" i was told this by a few chanel employee and also own both versions.

I use a drop of oil now and then as well. They seem to take all the oils out of things which we put on our faces, so I think often I need a little hydration, even oil, being normal to dry.

Just curious which you prefer the Chanel Le Velvet or the Chanel Aqua Vitalumiere? My skin is on the drier side but I have hot flashes ugh! The matte might work for me.
Shannon- I have worn the Vitalumiere Aqua for years- so would still pull that one out first because in general - I like a more hydrated dewy look on my dry skin. BUT this Velvet surprised me. I really do like it! I would go get a tester of both-- because they are both very thin and watery and are like nothing on the skin! Let me know what you think??

The velvet one only has 1 kind of chemical sunscreen in it, (octinoxate) and not a lot of it. It also has a natural mineral sunscreen ingredient.

I use a drop of oil now and then as well. They seem to take all the oils out of things which we put on our faces, so I think often I need a little hydration, even oil, being normal to dry.

Just curious which you prefer the Chanel Le Velvet or the Chanel Aqua Vitalumiere? My skin is on the drier side but I have hot flashes ugh! The matte might work for me.
I have mature, dry skin and my favorite is the Chanel Aqua Vitalumiere but I prefer a lighter and more glowy foundation
Shannon- I have worn the Vitalumiere Aqua for years- so would still pull that one out first because in general - I like a more hydrated dewy look on my dry skin. BUT this Velvet surprised me. I really do like it! I would go get a tester of both-- because they are both very thin and watery and are like nothing on the skin! Let me know what you think??
