      The mini mounts do that. The OEM is the longer ones, which is fine imo. The mini kit’s 1/2”-ish loss of OAL never made sense to me when direct caps accomplish more for less.

      Don't bother with any of those other mounts, use the Rearden Atlas mounts. Quality taper and a good 3 prong flash hider. Inexpensive, quality, and who doesn't like a quality plan b clone? It also works with cherry bomb muzzle devices and their muzzle devices work with Q plan b mounts.

    I think one of the best things about YHM is that they are good enough to be a "common use" producer for firearms owners. Good enough for a majority of people at a price that is appealing enough to build a large customer base. And a larger population of suppressor owners among firearm enthusiasts is a good thing, because it will potentially hurt attempts to restrict or outlaw suppressors in the future

    I’m a fan of the YHM line. The mounts aren’t spendy, durable and *if* there’s ever a problem they’re cheap enough.
    I like how the 30 cans fit on the 223 mounts but not the other way.
    My only critique or warning is the new cans (T2 or R2-types) with the 1 3/8” end caps have a ‘red tag’ stating the adapter needs to be torqued with the supplied wrenches before use... yeah, listen to that. I came too close to an oopsie.
    I’m waiting for them to come out with a ‘R45’ can!

    Resonator k was my first suppressor and it has performed well for the $$$… YHM has a limited warranty as of lately just don’t screw up the CAN and it will be a workhorse. + you can always change out the mounting system if it suits your needs. Overall I’m happy with my purchase, I even bought a R9 and a turbo k that’s still in jail….
    Good job hop.

      Pretty much every can manufacturer other than Rugged, and Rex Silentium has a limited warranty. Hell some like Gemtech and Ruger do NOT have a warranty at all.
      AAC, CGS, Daniel Defense, Dead Air, Energetic Armament, Griffin, HUXWRX, Knights Armament Co, Liberty, Otter Creek Labs, Q, Radical, Sig, Surefire, Thunder Beast, and YHM all have effectively the same warranty.

    After having many, many QD cans, I've been going back to Direct Thread. This is the way. The Trek II I found on sale a few years ago at a national sporting goods chain that was "getting out of suppressors" and snagged the last two in the state for 199 each. Hard to argue with that. They are awesome.

    I got lucky by starting out with Dead Air and their Keymo system. I put QDs on every gun I own and can just swap cans around and their system locks up precisely and in the same position every time, so I'm happy with it. I was lucky to not have to buy bunch of mounts and test them

    • @blodus4521

      People (rightfully) crap on keymo for being heavy and sometimes unnecessary. But it's the best if you want a QD system for multiple guns/suppressors with plenty of muzzle device options and reliable lockup.

      @@blodus4521 I can see their point in certain cases (running a titanium can with a keymo adapter basically doubles the can's weight) but in the same regard it's not an issue to me at all, it's a solid and damn near bomb-proof mounting solution, and I don't like titanium cans.

  • @slipknnnot

    • @alexlevinson8629
      @alexlevinson8629 2 года назад +22

      I actually really dig my YHM can and the mounting system. Once you use it a few times the spring loosens up a little and you don’t get any rotational play. Mines relatively quiet, pretty good at flash mitigation, pretty light, and seems super robust. It’s an original YHM Turbo, and I’ve got probably 6-7000 rounds through it and have no complaints other than the high back pressure. It’s one of my favorite mounting systems out there.

    @Hoplopfheil I am an FFL, armorer etc.. I know this is an old video, but there is a way to fix the wiggle on the phantom QD with resonator especially. Use a strap wrench to tighten the can onto the phantom QD. It will lock with no wiggle. I found it to be more on the resonator series than the turbo series. Have several of each. This is what real consumer journalism looks like. No biases, no fluff, just observations and a personal opinion to accompany it.
    Hop your style of video reviews reminds me a lot of Steve Burke from Gamers Nexus. I know that pc parts and guns usually aren't put in the same sentence, but Steve and his team have spent the better part of a decade doing what you're doing, just in a different field. His channel and content holds companies accountable for their products and business practices, and is unofficially the voice of the "customer". Two general thoughts (and anyone who is reading this, please feel free to point out if my thought process is flawed) -
    1 - regarding the little bit of wiggle that you are experiencing with different combinations of MDs and the can - I wonder if an appropriately sized o-ring slipped over the threads could eliminate (or at least minimize) that slop. Obviously you would need to get an o-ring made from a material which can tolerate the heat.
    2 - this is more of a suggestion that came to mind after seeing a comment about a user having issues with the can getting stuck on the QD - instead of using a pair of channel locks or vice grips to remove a stuck on suppressor (and having to futz around with using some sort of padding for the jaws so you don't mar the outside of the can) I would recommend picking up a strap wrench. They are one of those sorts of tools where you buy it for one particular application but once you have it you find yourself using it for a bunch of different tasks.

    Been running my YHM 30 cal resonator for years and love it but one other issue with the QD is carbon buildup on the muzzle device. It can cause the supprssor to lockup where you can't get it off by hand and you need some channel locks to get it off.

    • @JustIn-op6oy
      @JustIn-op6oy 2 года назад +7

      It might be worth it to go to Harbor Freight and pick up a small strap wrench for situations like that if you don't want to scratch up the outside of the can. And if you're anything like me, you'll find a ton of uses for the strap wrench besides the initial purpose you bought it for. Years back I picked up a set of strap wrenches when I was doing a fair amount of airsmith work (repairing & maintaining paintball guns). It's been a while since I worked on anything like that, but the medium sized strap wrench has found a permanent spot in my small toolbag which is my go-to kit whenever I have to fix something but don't know precisely which tools are going to be required.

    A Turbo-K with a Cherry Bomb mount adapter and a Rearden flash hider mount would be a killer 5.56 set up.

    Bummer one of your mounts doesn't lock up. I have a couple yhm cans and multiple qd mounts. I actually really like the system. Use them on my precision bolt guns with good results too.

    I came here to say I think you need to use the kurz adapter with the kurz muzzle devices. You will have to swap out the kurz adapter when you want to use the full size muzzle devices. Looks like you figured it out .

    Alabama Arsenal posted a video the other day about the CGS Helios QD Ti which, of course, is an interesting can but to some extent, I think his comments on mounting systems and the design of the can are MORE interesting.

    I had that rotation on one of my three mounts, I sent it back to YHM and they sent me a new one that doesn’t have that issue.

    Two words for you (ok one word and one acronym): Surefire + OSS. You will not have probs with them. Too, the OSS vents out-the-front so your direct impingement guns won't, "short stroke you." As far as .300 blk, here in VA. I find it very useful. As a home defense/truck gun it is outstanding as I carry a 8' barreled gun. Too, deer hunting here is usually 100 yds. and in. I don't know where you live, but it looks the the Pacific Northwest. Perhaps targets are 150 yds. +? Try a 12.5" barrel and 110 grain (bonded) ammo. You may be pleasantly surprised. As far as ammo cost, it it what it is.

    Still amazed how affordable YHM suppressors are (around $500) when there's so many other suppressors around $1,000. Got my Aero Precision Lahar K for $359

    If you tighten the can all the way down you can then lift the collar and turn it the last to get rid of the slop. That's what I do on my resonator

    Still waiting on that .300 BLK video, wanna know what you think. I just bought a Tavor in .300 BLK and I think the 16" barrel should mitigate any issues with range while still being nearly SBR length. When it's finished it should be my general purpose rifle.

    I have the turbo k in 556. The locking collar doesn’t really lock up perfect on any of my mounts. At 100 yards I get about a 1” zero shift when the device backs off. It’s only annoying when shooting distance. With my 10.5” it doesn’t really make a difference because I’m only practicing within 200 yards

    Rearden mfg is the way, at least for me. I ditched all of my ASR mounts and saved alot of weight and resolved the issue of my can coming loose by switching to the Rearden atlas system.
