  • No collars or ratchets, only threads. The Yankee Hill Machine Co SRX system is a much needed, long overdue, replacement for the Phantom QD family of mounts and muzzle devices. In this video we go over the mount, and the currently available muzzle devices.

    As a guy who only has buddies with suppressors, I am constantly baffled (joke intended) that there is still no simple, industry-wide standard that has become the norm. • @argonzificationd.1531
      @argonzificationd.1531 Год назад +22

      The industry doesn't have much of an incentive to develop a standard, considering most companies would rather just lock you into their ecosystem. Historically, most industry-wide standards, including MLOK, have resulted from military adoption. Unfortunately, the military hasn't used suppressors in large enough quantities to attempt standardizing on a mount for them, but that may be changing. However, if it does change, it will almost certainly be to whatever system the XM7 suppressors use, which would mean that the SRX will have a huge uphill battle to fight.

      Personally I wouldn’t buy a can that isn’t ready for/can’t be swapped to the q/rearden mounts. The last thing I want to do is get stuck paying for another mounting system vs a cheaper DT setup since I’m just going to swap it anyways.

      Direct thread is great for bolt actions. I don't know if things would change for semi's. I think it just depends on how good your barrel is threaded because some of them are terrible and don't stay tight. I use direct thread on the Ruger American 300blk with my Nomad-L and it's very solid. I sometimes have to use the adapter tool to loosen it off. But I'd imagine with semi-auto's, more constant movement would eventually loosen it overtime.
      I haven't bothered with Rearden or this mount yet but they seem pretty much identical to how EZ-Lok works for handguns. Once heat cycled, it'll be a bitch to remove. I had issues with that before and I'd always put a few rounds down range and then try and loosen and re-tighten the can, seems to help quite a bit. I wouldn't want this mounting style on a 5.56 gun because the cans get incredibly hot and take awhile to cooldown.

      Direct thread 'takes longer' to detach and reattach. Direct thread needs no mounts, don't need to be timed, and the thread fits have a clear and objective standard beyond the bounds of the suppressor industry. Crap threads on a semi auto under a mount are the same as crap threads on a bolt gun holding the can directly. They're crap regardless.

    Way too many better suppressor/mount options available to go thru all this bullshit for the sake of a YHM can's "value".
    How about a review on the magazine reliability of that curved mag, I'm guessing 7.62x39 AR setup???

    YHM, if you’re reading this, please stop shipping cans with ANY mount and discount the can somewhat, you will sell even more cans than you already are. Thanks.

    YHM is garbage in the spread and poi shift. Compared to my Griffin armament Dual Lock and PSR suppressors, YHM spread and poi shift is probably twice as much. That new mounting system looks very close to the old griffin armament style of the mounting system. Its bound to be an improvement over their previous garbage.

    Damn when I look at most of these products though I just don't see the justification on markup. I mean it's not breaking the bank to purchase but I see a $15 piece of metal being sold for $80+ How much is a lb of 17-4ph Stainless steel? Heat treating and Black oxide coating? for a single unit? Is it really $80? I feel like just making a few of these myself to see actual process and cost.

    Rugged has a short belly button looking mount also. Its so ugly that i didnt buy it. But, i now wonder if its made to increase air volume in the can vs mounts with prongs?
    I guess the little addition of freed up air space can add up to a decibel or two?

    I used to have a KeyMo on my Nomad-30. Now I have a Plan B and a Cherry Bomb. In the future my 5.56 can will be whatever Q’s cherry bomb compatible 5.56 can is, because I realize now that ratcheting systems and “QD” systems are just selling you extra weight. If I wasn’t a poor, I’d just direct thread, but I still don’t want to buy a dedicated can for each rifle.

    Should have been left hand threaded. It is better by a long shot and simple. I may consider upgrading for at least the one gun that will still be using my T2 but I'm moving the rest over to a better suppressor and better mount. I disagree with the presumption that suppressors simply have to be loud because of supersonic cartridges. Also, consider picking up some accuwashers instead of using those trash peel washers or the stackable ones.

    It's kind of funny how there was an arms race for the best QD mount for years, and it turns out the best mounts are just a simple thread and taper. Lightweight, never gets stuck, repeatable index, it doesn't seem like there are any downsides to plan b type mounts

  • @tristenwilliams1943
    @tristenwilliams1943 9 месяцев назад +1

    Quick pointer for the phantom qd mounts: if you screw your can all the way down on the collar (until it can’t possibly go any further), the collar will pop down a hair as the tooth is contacting a tooth on the ratchet. Rotate the collar counterclockwise and it’ll pop into place, completely securing the can with zero wobble or rotation. I figured this out by accident and it works perfectly.

    • @Hoplopfheil
      @Hoplopfheil  9 месяцев назад

      I talked about that when discussing these previously, and I think FT covered it as well. That's how they're supposed to work but the tolerances aren't good enough so it only works on some combos of mount and muzzle device.

    Can't you just rotate the lock ring on the phantom mount? I have 3 mounts, 2 fall right into a "click" when fully tight. The other is between clicks when fully tight and I just rotate the rear ring thing slightly to get it to lock in. None of them have the movement you showed though. They are big and heavy, but they work for me. The srx does seem nice though. Too bad my og turbo can't swap mounts.

    • @Hoplopfheil
      @Hoplopfheil  11 месяцев назад +1

      I showed a bunch of combinations of adapters and muzzle devices in a previous video. Maybe half of them lock up tight, a quarter can be rotated by hand to the last notch, and the last quarter fall just out of place and will wobble.

    I’m in the minority that likes the Phantom QD system. I think for what you get it’s a great system. I think many people just don’t like the look of the MD.
    With the SRX my 0.0002 cents is they should have done LH thread like the Xeno or OSS. Big miss there. I also think 90% of people who have concerns about the mount affecting accuracy can’t shoot their rifle well enough to notice. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. Is it much better than a lot out there? Yes. I’d take Phantom QD over everything except Surefire probably. Go ahead, roast me.

    • @RandyTheB_
      @RandyTheB_ Год назад +3

      Griffin's Plan A taper system is inferior. The angled taper is behind the threads, near the base of the muzzle device. This theoretically makes it more repeatable (if you keep the muzzle device clean constantly), but very prone to carbon locking.
