And now it's here. Fuck yeah! Of course, there will be someone who says "it's not HL3." For all intents and purposes, yes it is. It's the 3rd major installment in the Half-Life series, it's got a 12+ hour campaign, and significant technological leaps worthy of a new entry into the series. If Valve ever releases a game titled "Half-Life 3" and/or one that continues the story directly after that of HL2: Episode 2, then sure, we can't call this HL3. (If Alyx contains parts that do take place after Episode 2, please don't spoil them here. I won't be able to play Alyx for a while due to economic hardship, so I'm avoiding all newer Half-Life related internet content until then.)
Some Guy Dadamage Remember his video 2 years ago talking about how valve still going to release HL3? You can notice the way he talk and his tone. He sounds so positive back then. Now his voice is a mix of anger and defeated voice. Pretty sad.
Guys, you do realize the significance of this moment right and why this comes out at this point in time? The writer himself chooses to release this at this moment because he knows Valve will never make another HL game since it's now making card games instead. The writer feels a responsibility to the fans and loyal players whom waited for so long for the conclusion. Be thankful and pay respect to the writer as he does not have to do this. He could've just let this buried with him in the grave. He knows now is the time to release it. Valve will never be the same from this point on and as we know it, Gabe knows as well. Embrace it and this is a gift that we have waited for a decade.
The solar eclipse that happened this year was the first in almost 100 years, there were never even photos of one before to begin with, and the next is going to happen in 2090, kids on the internet...
_"Ten years from now, people will look back at Valve and see a company who genuinely cared about the games and people who play games."_ -Gabe Newell, 2004 *And then Valve learned that DOTA and CS:GO were all they needed to be successful, and that quote went out the window.*
You also need to keep in mind that Laidlaw released this on the 21st anniversary of Valve's founding, August 24, 1996. This was a direct jab in the gut, also likely due to his NDA ending.
Oh yea, definitely. It would explain a lot. especially with NDA that has expiration ( or expires the day you leave whatever is connected with it ) only rarely there are timeless NDAs if any
+MrZsc When you don't know something and you have the internet at your fingertips, what do you do? Exactly, ask somebody else... jesus christ. (It's 'Non-Disclosure Agreement', but you should have just googled it.)
+Espektronic All the signs were there. Complete disappointment on every level with Valve. The TF2 crowd didn't get their big update. Even DOTA fans were upset at the Artifact reveal. CS:GO got paid sprays and a lousy operation. That was like the methane seeping in... and this was the spark.
Kickstarter project name - " Half Life 2 Episode 3 & Half Life 3 " Total money raised - 2 Billion Dollars - Buy the rights to Half Life franchise and LETS ROLL BABY! ^_^ The only question is - Will Valve sell the title ? I would say yes, because so far it seems they care about money only now so hey...
please stop dude, dont waste your time trying to make hl3 just to get a cease and desist and have to stop making it. You cant make hl3. Valve wont let you make half life 3.
it's a stupid idea "oh maybe we will use this engine, yay we can make it we huv the stooory" yea what about, design choices, gameplay pacing and mechanics, voice acting, animations, level designs and a lot more...
Not really, I read it, and it just ends on another cliff hanger, though this time that being the G-man pulling Alyx out of a situation where she would be killed, only for the vortigaunts to save Gordon from that same situation. The ending has Gordon waking up in a world foreign to him, as he sees people he's never met in the place of old friends, implying a good deal of time had passed since he was saved, and the knowledge of him or his "legacy" almost completely forgotten, with only a slight allusion to a rebellious spirit in those who surrounded him. Basically, it didn't conclude anything, and only managed to move the goal post back.
Sorry, I haven't read the story, I'm not even finish with the first half life. I mean it as at least the story continues. I haven't read the story yet because I don't want to get spoiled.
I wouldn't continue with the story, then; it's not worth the heart break of reaching half life 2 episode 2, only to know that the cliff hanger they leave you at is all you'll ever get. After watching the video, I had a glimmer of hope left that I would get a conclusive end to this story which has been bugging me for 10 years now, but we only got the same thing again. I love Half life, it's one of my favorite video game series, and definitely my favorite fps series, but I don't know if I would recommend it, just for the pain of knowing that the story will never be resolved.
Ye the writer already stated earlier this year, that had Episode 3 ever happened, it would have ended in another cliffhanger, seems like he wasnt lying about it.
several situations can happen from this news now 1. mass suicide or riot of half life fans 2. attempted attacks at valve hq 3. community uses the story to make episode 3 by any means possible
I did not doubt that for a day after the end of ep 2, this franchise for me is always like a tradition. Every time a new Half Life came out back then, i just HAD to play it. i enjoyed it in every way. There would be no possible way it would fail a true fans.
Grainsauce I don't get why you keep say half life 4 confirmed since the next half life game that was suppose to come was half life 2 episode 3 unless Gabe thinks that 4 come after 2
Just read the leak. I'm speechless. Half Life was my gateway into video games, the first game I ever played and remember loving to death. So as a super-fan, I'm utterly lost for words. I don't know what to feel at this point.
Sent shivers down my spine reading those last few paragraphs, and in a strange way felt some closure. Had the same 'upbringing' with these games as you, and im not sure how i feel either brother.
Daddy Anon I don't mean to be whiny, I merely want closure. As soon as I get closure, me and every other Half Life super fan can move to greener pastures.
Just read the story, I don't know how to feel. This is the end of a time, of a legend, of our childhood, of our dream. Such a bittersweet 10 years. What an epic conclusion. Good bye, Freeman. Good bye, Half Life.
No you missed the nihilist nature of the ending. In the end, Gordon realize: we human are just insignificant in this universe, we are just a little rock on the path of the omnipotent Combine to conquer the universe, what's the meaning of fighting anyway? This one message is enough to end a franchise.
Yeah it wasn't the end of the series it was the end of HALF LIFE 2! It was left on a cliff hanger. If Valve were still good game makers obviously Half life 3 would then come out and focus more on the story of Gman in the Half life series. It may be the end of the games but this was not the end of the Half Life story! It had a lot more left to answer than this.
This actually opens up more questions. Why did G-man help Alyx? Did Gordon age at all after he traveled through time? What's the relationship between the Vortigaunts and the G-man? Will the resistance continue their struggle to usurp the combine? and who the hell is G-man?! So many more questions left unanswered, we need a proper closure. I'll give all my money if the author writes a book detailing the failure/success of the resistance on earth and the purpose of the G-man's actions. This short synopsis is not enough, I need more.
I have the overwhelming urge to hug my buddy Rob, whom cosplays as Gordon (and met at a convention). He and I are such big fans of the Half-Life series, and I know that he'll be devastated upon hearing this.
Kenneth Chou Or you cam just make a mod with fan voice actors. Hace plantee? AM2R? It make take time, but at this point I'm guessing it would take less time than the actual gane to be released.
I know, I just thought the news initially was of something akin to HL3 being confirmed or leaked in some way. Instead, I just get confirmation that HL3 isn't being developed and this is as much we are going to get of Half-life for a looooong time
Abraham Lincoln why die for a game? What is human logics nowadays? Your life is very valuable, as you can't replace it or get another, so live happily till the end
episode 2 came out 10 years ago. you shouldn't be suprised they weren't going to make it, especially when 5 years passed and there was still no actual confirmation from Valve about it.
I wonder what happened that changed Gabe's mind on Half life? He went from "after orange box we have to get episode 3 out" to "i have got nothing to say about HL episode 3"
I'm pretty late to the party on this but I think Gabe may not have really had a hand in the development of HL3 seeing as Valve has the "make whatever project you like" philosophy, from what I've learned HL3 has apparently has started production MANY times with different people in the company but never went anywhere significant for one reason or another. It's possible that in the beginning he may have been very hopeful for HL3 but as the project expanded from the original planned episodic format to the new full release model like the original Half-Life 2 to then stopping production for whatever reason his faith in the game actually being released steadily decreased. Possibly he never said anything about the production being stopped because he didn't want to let down the fans, a lot of which are very devoted and dedicated to this series, or maybe if you want to think he wants more money he didn't say anything because he wanted to keep his investors satisfied and continue to invest in Valve. Idk, that's just my guess.
"I expect you know better than I the appropriate course of action, and I leave you to it. Expect no further correspondence from me regarding these matters; this is my final episode. Yours in infinite finality, Gordon Freeman, Ph.D." I've been waiting 13 years for closure . . . and I am now at peace. Thank you, Half-Life
The very first... and very last words ever spoken through the mind of Gordon Freeman. The closest we will get to hear his thoughts. I gotta be honest, that last paragraph got me hard indeed.
This confirms Valve is no longer a game company Crowbar collective the world is looking at you, please, please please please, get the rights to half life and finish the franchise You guys can do this
Yeah, the same game company that is just relying on micro-transactions (hats/other items in TF2, Knives in CSGO) along with taking a bunch of other franchises and making games of them (Dota 2/Artifact). Yeah Valve has not made really a game from their own minds in a while. Or expand on their franchises like Half Life or Left 4 Dead. Half Life (being the most neglected) is left in the dark from having a game. Gabe Newell has just been riding on this micro-transaction train since they brought hats and the mann co store to existence. I mean Half Life is going on 10 years without a game; Valve doesn't really give a shit anymore. I really thank Marc Laidlaw for giving more news on EP3/HL3. I mean did Valve not learn from what happened to Duke Nukem Forever?
Why is this not completely blowing up?! This is huge gaming news!! Ten years we have been waiting for something about Half-Life, and now we finally have it!!
How could Valve do this. They have nothing but deaf ears. When id Software released Doom 3 people wanted another Doom game. And a decade later with everything rehashed from development hell and the like, they bring us DOOM and id Software delivered perfectly. And now after a decade later Valve announces a card game. A goddamn card game. Then their original writers leave with what Valve has become today, things are looking bleak sad to say. These fine men built Valve from the ground up since day one back in the day alongside the man who we used to trust and look up to. How could Gaben abandon a franchise that made him where he is today? What a shameful display.
Why the fuck don't they just give us Half Life 3 with an updated version of Deathmatch and put microtransactions in, if they're that horny for microtrans? it's retarded.
I really don't know what to say about this situation... I can accept as a gamer and a lover of the Half-Life series that HL3 will never come out, it's hard but I can, I just wonder how much backlash is going to happen to Valve after this... people aren't gonna take this lightly (if all this information is true that is, and we have no evidence to prove it wrong).
With any luck, this will just encourage Valve to make the damn game already. Remember when the Deadpool movie was just an idea and nothing more? Fox originally had no intentions of making that movie, but just for fun they made test footage to see what it would be like. Then Ryan Reynolds took that footage and leaked it online. The reception for that footage was so overwhelmingly positive that it was enough to convince Fox to actually go ahead and make the movie. Here we see a similar situation. Valve clearly has no intentions of making Half-Life 3, but their lead writer just unveiled a full documentation of what its story could be. I haven't read it yet and enough time hasn't passed to sum up the reception, but I'm willing to bet that people will love it so much that Valve will just go ahead and make it. Stranger things have happened.
I don't think you understand how much money valve has.they can literally fuck up projects(htc vive, steam controllers, steam machines)and still not lose money, heck they cant lose money even if they wanted to.so even if they fuck up with artefact, they lose nothing, they have so much money that they don't even know what to do with it.
+Jason Petersen That was their original idea before Source engine became outdated. After they start working on VR and Source2, they dropped the episodic format and planned to make an actual Half-Life 3 at some point in the future. Needless to say, they dropped that too.
They never announced anything, so much time passed it was concluded that they will skip the episodes and aim directly for a new game. The story wouldn't have reached another continuation without having released a new material beforehand anyway, so HL3 or HL2:EP3 is interchangable definition that doesn't matter. It's the same thing and they both don't exist.
I feel special yet sad at the same time to be one of the first people to see the closure of the Half Life saga. The ending was something none of us were expecting at all, but at least I'm here before this blows up and valve receives colossal backlash for what has just happened.
There's a team over at /r/DreamsOfHalflife3 being assembled to make a group similar to the crowbar collective to develop a new half-life fan made game based on Mark's story using the Unreal Engine.
It's still undecided, I'd agree they better stand with Source. Black Mesa is doing fine with it and other engines might not have the same feel of mechanics.
I think the first and final paragraphs have double meanings. *SPOILERS* While Mark may be talking about valve, Gordon is probably talking about how he no longer recognizes any of the rebels because he is now stranded in the future.
Nick Becerra Stranded in the future, doesn't know if the Combine won or lost. How far? Far enough for Earth to recover? Far enough for…Portal 2 to tale place?
We NEED someone to make a EP3 mod with the quality of Black Mesa (the mod)...if Valve won't do it. We can do this and to be honest, I'd happily fund a kickstarter/indiegogo/something to make this happen. Maybe even use Source 2 in the process. (i know that this most likely won't happen, but one can dream eh?)
After reading it, all I can say is. Half-Life 4 Confirmed. Ends on another cliff-hanger. - But in all seriousness, this was so god damn depressing. Only made me hungrier for more Half-Life.
What cliffhanger ? Alyx leaves with the G-Man, Gordon witnesses that the Combine is all powerful and that to resist is pointless. He got saved by the Vorts at the end but he retires so, yes, this is clearly the end.
Its sad that we are going to have to rely on the community to get HL3.... Why valve? why.... 6 years ago you were awesome, 10 years ago you were legendary. And now you're making a shitty card game...
Don't think of it as sad. Valve doesn't care about Half-Life. They probably haven't for years. So instead, people who love the series are going to come together as a community and put in the hours, the sweat and the tears to make the best game they can as a labor of love. If the people on the Project Borealis subreddit are serious then someday we'll get Half-Life 2: Episode 3, for no other reason than the love of Half-Life itself. That's not sad at all.
Still, it's not HL3 story. I mean, HL3 would've probably adapted it but it was originally written as HL2: Ep3. So if you respect Marc for giving us this beautiful story, stop spreading misinformation and call it "Ep3 story" like he intended.
So.... we get a niche cash-grab card game and a short (although well written) text document ending to a nearly 20-year-old franchise that people waited anxiously for 10 years to be continued. That's it: Valve is dead. Without Steam, they'd be bankrupt in months.
Remember, Marc left Valve years ago. This was something that was sitting on his chest for 20 years. So he decided to let it all out, and probably pissed Gabe off in the process.
tl;dr version of the story Resistance buries Eli, Alyx/Gordon fly to borealis, crash in arctic, find borealis in combine research station, they go in, they find mossman, borealis can travel space & time, alyx, mossman & gordon get onboard, alyx wants to destroy ship, mossman wants the rebels to have it, they argue, alyx shoots & kills mossman, alyx wants to send ship to combine homeworld as a time-bomb, she does it, alyx is saved by gman before it explodes, gordon is saved by vortigaunts before it explodes, after being saved gordon is like several hundred years into the future or something unsure of whether or not the rebels succeeded I personally like the first half, I don't care much for the second half. Having Alyx kill someone on her own side seems like a weird direction to take her character, and not knowing whether the rebels succeed or not makes it feel like I wasted my time helping the rebels in Half-Life 2 and its episodes. I was just minding my own business at Black Mesa doing my job, and now I'm stuck in the distant future where I don't want to be. What a great place to leave me in, Marc.
I possibly think Gordon would have met Chell who is possibly in the future too. I think the rest of Half life would heavily focus on Gman and his mystery and his plan (More of the darker backstory) and eventually Gordon would go back in time and find Alyx. Why would he Vortigons put Gordon there? And why didn't Gman save Gordon this time? This makes Gordon a threat to the Gman?
Alyx is saved by Gman? Seems like he sees something in her that he saw in Gordon and Shepard as well. I'm guessing that gman goes towards those are have such courage to change future and make history.
God, I feel so much emotion over this. Cold, empty disappointment at finally being confronted with the outcome I knew for years was coming. Thank you, Laidlaw, for putting an end to it all. I'm going to go and contemplate my existence and maybe consider becoming an alcoholic.
This is quite saddening, the reason imo that this happened is one of two: 1) Marc Laidlaw's work got shat at all over, everything went for nothing, so he was not 100% amused by that / decided to post his own take of what was to happen, which is now a totally different thing. 2) Valve is seriously not caring about anything Half-Life related in the next upcoming decades. Whatever the case is, just shows that ValvE is in the wrong here...
[spoiler alert?? I think??] Depressing and heart wrenching, the 'Epistle 3' ending to the infamous Half-Life series is, in a word: appropriate. Unlike the lackluster ending written by another epic sci-fi trilogy, Mass Effect, Marc Laidlaw provides closure to a massive world that we all love in a way that seems plausible, believable, and most importantly, emotionally cathartic (or devastating, depending on your outlook on creative writing) Laidlaw's blog post provides a counter-point to the theory that epic narrative video games fail to and ultimately cannot have a fulfilling and compelling end to which 'playas' find satisfying.. I know this is a huge claim, and one that wholly cannot and never will be proven, but DAMN. There's nothing like a good-ole Lovecraftian kick to the balls brought to you by Marc Laidlaw to end a series that never will end. Read the blog post. Please. Or better yet, VNN, release an update!!! 'As you lie there dear playa, you and Gertie Freemont, writhing on the ground in the fetal position, holding back tears, and whining like little girls, Laidlaw will approach and whisper, 'Its all gone to shit. Its all your fault. Its over now. Die alone." '
+DiamantVis not exactly, by destroying Borealis they destroy the last protal technology the humanity has and cuts the already severed link with the Combine and their reason to be here. It is left to interpretation but not everything seems to be lost. Humanity never stood a chance in beating the Combines, and what Gordon sees at the end just confirms how tiny humans actually are. It fits HL pretty well.
Veselin Petrov Portal 2 ending seems to show That Earth is very peaceful and quiet which i believe goes to show that the Combine have left Earth and humanity in ruins. My heart is tearing at the thought of Gordon and his last paragraph :(
+Lara Croft We don't know if that field is real or if it isn't artifically supported by robots in isolated environment. If the rift is really closed, I can imagine it won't be too hard for humanity to clear the remaining Combine on Earth, but it surely would be a long devastating event. I also wish everything to be peaceful on Earth and maybe G-Man's goal to destroy Borealis freed us in the end but that was only a tiny small part of the war in the universe, and Alyx is still needed somewhere in the unknowns. It is pretty open ended and left to speculations but at the same time it is an interesting conclusion.
I know that Half-Life 3 is dead. But I don't care so much as to cry about it. If you really thought that I was so serious about it, then please rethink your life. By the way, I never even mentioned anything about Half-Life. I only mentioned Ricochet and that card game.
Apparently making money is the same as quality. Because Pay2Win card games based on a random IP that hasn't been prominent with valve's marketing is the hallmark of a good game. Im going to take a wild guess and say that you either: A) Have a hard on for DOTA2 (and nothing but DOTA2) or B) a mindless troll trying to find enjoyment in life. Both of which is more depressing than this. Seriously.
You can hear the excitement in his voice lol Edit: I rewatched the video and realized how depressing this whole thing is. So many years. Waiting. Finally being told but not in the form of a game. I'm sorry. This is truly the end of valve
Of course it isn't. It's been like 20 years, dude. Valve has been doing fuckass big name publisher shit, like microtransactions and fucking DOTA card games and shitty corporate structure. If you honestly thought it was coming after ALL THIS TIME and ALL THIS EVIDENCE you're a damn fool, driven by wishful thinking.
I am glad to hear we get a story base but it makes me sad that we don't get hl3 gam and valve has decided it's not counting to 3 deep down in my soil (if I have one) in crying and I'm just flipping out nein nein nein nein nein nein nein nein nein nein nein nein nein nein nein nein nein nein fuck
"Otherwise, well, I can offer you a battle you have no chance of winning... rather an anticlimax after what you've just survived. Time to choose..." - Gman
This has a high chance of being that valve just actually scraped the whole idea on Half Life 2 Episode 3, so Marc *_MAYBE_* Release the story so he could actually please the fans one last time. EDIT : There might also be a chance of Marc hearing about the scraping of half life and decided to give the story to the community so they can make it.
Yup, i think it was a big part of a reason he left the company, i mean... one does not simply stay in company that does not want to continue your favorite project. Its like your talent would be wasted if he stayed there. And there were others as well who did the same. So i would not be surprised if that was the case.
i bet marc's been secretly working on this for a really long time and was debating whether he should release this or not and did it out of pure frustration and anger towards valve
Oh yea, i can definitely imagine that. when you have passion for something - you will work on it even if you are the only person in the team, pretty much solo. But it probably got to the point where he just couldn't take it, like a shout in a dark, the amount of work that would need to be put into it for one person is just impossible to tackle, even with a team of 3, 7, or 15, it would take years. It just left me speechless to imagine there was NOBODY out there that wanted to get hired by Valve and simply work on Half Life Franchise, i mean come on... there are so many people in love with this and i am sure there are countless of programmers, graphic designers and what not that could easily get job there and work on it, imagine how cool would that be.
Well, I read it and I think it would've been a satisfying conclusion, _if_ it was visual. There's so much lost on the story when we can't actually see it. I never liked reading, I prefer when stories come together with visual aid, and after playing all Half-Life games, reading a narrative just isn't good enough. This really needed to be a game, seeing how Borealis flickers out of existence and appears in other worlds, I really wanted to see it. Unfortunately, now that the script is out, Episode 3 really isn't gonna come out. RIP. This series really deserved a worthy game to conclude it. Valve you really fucked up.
Visualized everything that was written and it would be an epic game if made by valve. Because this script is released they either going to alter it based on peoples reaction or change it completely. This changes nothing though. Its a rough story of episode 3. G man still a mystery.
Are you glad you're still shoving your head so far up Valve's ass that you keep defending them while they don't give a shit and backstab everyone? Cool.
[SPOILER ALERT] is it just me or at the end Gordon could be at the same place as Chell at the end of Portal 2? I mean, it's a calm place in a distant future that no one can tell if human kind has defeated the Combine. I would love to see those 2 meeting, but I kinda understand that both of their stories might has reached its end.
WaitForGLaDOS The field Chell finds herself on after Portal 2 is fake, after walking a few steps she bumps into the plastic sheet that we thought showed the outside. you did not hear this from me
its both interesting and sad to see that half life as a franchise has almost officially come to an end, I really appreciate this closure though, really do.
>e3 2020 >gaben walks onto stage >a large three slowly fades in on screen behind him >but nobody is in the audience to see it >gaben stares tentatively into the empty auditorium in front of him >the sound of a single 13 year old neckbeard drilling into his nose while muttering "muh artifact lore" resonates throughout the empty space >a single tear makes its way from Gaben's eye down to his cheek >as it falls to the floor, Gaben remembers the old bottle of double malt that was gifted to him by a fan after the release of EP2 >stashed in one of the drawers at Valve's new shiny HQ >and the gun next to it >with one last sigh, Gaben looks up at the auditorium's reflectors, knowing it's the last time he'll ever see them >"Thank you, and goodbye"
So what is the true identity of G-man? Is he human or some kind of alien? How could he walk around all monsters and Combine soldier without being attacked? What happened with other characters? Barney, Shepard. Were they dead or still alive? I don't know whether this is a coincidence or not, but yesterday I dreamed about half life 3 (or episode 3, whatever). And today the story was revealed. Anw, it is good to finally know the ending of this masterpiece. Although it is not what I expected (e.g. G-man is actually Gordon, etc), it is still good. Rest in Peace, Half life, the best series of all time.
Viet Anh Nguyen I believe that Gman was some sortve extradimensional being who for some reason wanted to destroy the being that was controlling the gaunts in HL1 (can't remember his name) btw the gaunts apparently have some sortve collective consciousness probably a rather pretty primitive one cause they seem pretty independent. But don't quote me on any of that I could just be spouting complete nonsense lol. He practically hired Gorden as his asset and kinda took him out of time after HL1 then awakens him at HL2s start cause I guess he was planning on using him to achieve one of his goals presumably to destroy the tower cause he seems to be preparing to freeze gorden again before some Vortigaunts intervene.
Viet Anh Nguyen I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Gman doesn't have a story he's just a mysterious figure they made to never be answered... MAYBE artifact will give us our answer that's probably the closest we will ever get...
toot toot the hype train is massive either A:valve could not live up to hype B: why work when you get LOADSAMONEY off steam? I wouldn't C:it's all a secret plot by the spy to shove his baguette into us D: it's a secret plot by gaben to make helf loife 3 or ep 3 look better when it comes out
Honestly, it makes no sense why Valve wouldn't make HL3. OTHER COMPANIES WOULD KILL TO BE IN THE POSITION VALVE IS IN; THERE IS SUCH A HUGE DEMAND FOR HL3. If any other company had that type of demand for one of their game series; they would definitely milk it dry.
Jonathan Mathers they are in a position where they can't (shouldn't) rush a very loved and one of THE most important series in the entire gaming market (except maybe that one ET game which was quite obviously important in a very different way) but they need to make it cause their fan base is losing morale, Buutt they don't HAVE to make it cause they can coast on other games and release whatever the hell they want I guess. Why deal with the backlash if it's bad I mean VNN said they aren't afraid to make HL3 I'm not convinced and plus the cons like outweigh the pros.
Do you not understand what would happen if Valve released HL3? It would be a huge disappointment. The HL series has accumulated hype for over a decade. The third game is going to be shamed, unless Valve makes something completely innovative.
Different companies act in different ways, with the good and the shit that comes with it. Without Valve's business hierarchy we wouldn't have had Half Life 2 and the original to begin with, two of the best games ever made, no company would take a chance on a game as short as Portal. It's a double edged sword though because it set a standard that lead to Half Life 3 never getting made. Yes Steam is the worst thing that happened to Valve, it was also the best thing to have happened to PC gaming because it opened it up and made it mainstream.
I'm sorry for your loss, please don't let this worry you more then it needs too. Things will get better, weather or not Valve has anything to do with the bettering.
Sorry for your loss too :( I lost my grandma 2 yrs ago, still feels like yesterday. She wasn't one of the best but she was still my mom's mother. It's sad, But we all move on. Life never stops; It just gets harder. Don't give up.
I don't like epistle 3. It essentially ends Freeman's story in the most anti climatic way possible: with him being dumped in the distant future and just quitting. Where is the limitless potential that Gman alluded to? Freeman's story should end with him reaching unparalleled heights, not being ditched by Gman in favor of Alex for some reason. Seriously, Gman was content to let Alex die in the citadel explosion and it was only by the vortigaunts that she survived. It was bizarre how in episode 2 that Gman suddenly attached newfound value on Alex out of the blue.
Laidlaw is writer, someone with a passion for story. His story garnered the attention of millions, who longed to see its conclusion. He must have ached to be able to share his final vision. This is the end result when you crush artistic aspirations with corporate greed. Resistance. Marc is the One Free Man.
If they did it like gwent from wither where their are factions from all of their games I would understand(I would still be pissed) but they didn't they went for Dota.
You can just hear the hope has died out of poor Tyler's voice
:(
Yeah, towards the end, he starts stuttering.
Half Life is the reason why Steam exists, Steam is the reason why Half Life 3 doesn't.
Fluffypoopprincessmelodybellfluffybottoms rough.
Lmao
This aged well
@@mikeexits again... It's not half life 2 episode 3, it just advanced the story by a miniscule amount
This was released just after Valve's 21st birthday on 8/24. I'm sure Mark was WELL aware of this
I'm not so sure. He said on his twitter that the timing was insignificant, and that he just "got around to it."
LET GET THIS VIDEO TRENDING! Spread the word.
Trendings are picked by RUclips staff. So spreading the word won't do anything.
They pick what they think is popular, so since how big news this is, they might put it on trend.
This, this is how it happened. This is how valve died.
Corn O' Cob valve has been dead for like, seven years
Hahaha
Nah fam all those CS:GO go skins making bank
......With thunderous greed.
haha. This... Is how the Half-Life died...
You can actually pinpoint the second when his heart rips in half.
And....Now... 1:36
Mine's also riped in half, not gonna lie.
"yeah... You can do that now..."
Some Guy Dadamage Remember his video 2 years ago talking about how valve still going to release HL3? You can notice the way he talk and his tone. He sounds so positive back then. Now his voice is a mix of anger and defeated voice. Pretty sad.
Is this a simpson reference?
Guys, you do realize the significance of this moment right and why this comes out at this point in time? The writer himself chooses to release this at this moment because he knows Valve will never make another HL game since it's now making card games instead. The writer feels a responsibility to the fans and loyal players whom waited for so long for the conclusion. Be thankful and pay respect to the writer as he does not have to do this. He could've just let this buried with him in the grave. He knows now is the time to release it. Valve will never be the same from this point on and as we know it, Gabe knows as well. Embrace it and this is a gift that we have waited for a decade.
No significance to any current timing. Marc already denied this twitter.com/marc_laidlaw/status/900980779802439680
Well said, man.
Yeah I don't believe this is the story Valve would have went with. Directors and continuity people exist for a reason.
God these comments REALLY don't age well lmao
But now...
this is bigger than the solar eclipse.
The ScoutCrab
this but unironically
solar/lunar eclipses are just exercises in calculating orbits nowadays and maybe an occasion to take a cool photo
The ScoutCrab This was the best thing to happen this week. Fuck the Eclipse.
The ScoutCrab You deserve a medal
The solar eclipse that happened this year was the first in almost 100 years, there were never even photos of one before to begin with, and the next is going to happen in 2090, kids on the internet...
_"Ten years from now, people will look back at Valve and see a company who genuinely cared about the games and people who play games."_ -Gabe Newell, 2004
*And then Valve learned that DOTA and CS:GO were all they needed to be successful, and that quote went out the window.*
We need to spread this like wildfire. Great quote.
TBH, a dota/go/tf2 clone with cartoony half loaf universe stuff would be fun as hell
I want portal 3
notice how its all in past tense? they were right we do see a company who DID care not anymore tho
"Steam sales eveeybody, fill my wallet and get games you won't even play, probably cuz your pc cant even run it!"
I had to watch this twice just to comprehend what just happened
same, but i did 6 times
So... What happened?
out of nowhere the real half life story writer posts half life 3 story
*intensifies* Don't say HL3 is canceled man, I will fucking cry right now.
Leonard Wimbelton it sadly will never happen

Yeah, not soo dumb at all
You also need to keep in mind that Laidlaw released this on the 21st anniversary of Valve's founding, August 24, 1996. This was a direct jab in the gut, also likely due to his NDA ending.
Oh yea, definitely. It would explain a lot. especially with NDA that has expiration ( or expires the day you leave whatever is connected with it ) only rarely there are timeless NDAs if any
WAIT REALLY? His NDA ended and he releases this? Dude, he's a hero. Goddamn
whats an NDA
+MrZsc When you don't know something and you have the internet at your fingertips, what do you do? Exactly, ask somebody else... jesus christ. (It's 'Non-Disclosure Agreement', but you should have just googled it.)
whatever happened to being nice and also providing insight and context that'd otherwise be unobtainable through an internet search?
This video is the ground zero for the destruction of the internet.
Nah, laidlaws blog is GZ. This is just the nearest populated settlement.
Time since ground zero;3 days
Put your pitchforks down and go check oit the new half life trailer!
Hey, I mean its better than nothing. Straight from the man himself.
I can't tell if it's better, I mean at least before I could dream.. Now not so much
HL3 Confirmed.
HL2EP3 Cancelled.
Is it? We wanted to find out the next part of the story so bad, but at what cost?
At what cost? I mean you don't think that HL3 was a thing right? As long as they make money on steam no HL3 for us, at least we know the ending now.
Someone needs to turn it into a game or comic, also hey Mastersword, didnt expect to see you roaming the comments
if valve cant make half life 3......we can do it
Kickstarter project name - " Half Life 2 Episode 3 & Half Life 3 " Total money raised - 2 Billion Dollars - Buy the rights to Half Life franchise and LETS ROLL BABY! ^_^
The only question is - Will Valve sell the title ? I would say yes, because so far it seems they care about money only now so hey...
i dont think they would
Half life belongs to valve. You'll get shut down instantly
please stop dude, dont waste your time trying to make hl3 just to get a cease and desist and have to stop making it.
You cant make hl3. Valve wont let you make half life 3.
it's a stupid idea "oh maybe we will use this engine, yay we can make it we huv the stooory" yea what about, design choices, gameplay pacing and mechanics, voice acting, animations, level designs and a lot more...
At least there's a closure in the series in some form.
Ole Uncle Ben well it sounds like an ending for freeman and also leads to another half life game with alyx as main character ;)
several situations can happen from this news now
1. mass suicide or riot of half life fans
2. attempted attacks at valve hq
3. community uses the story to make episode 3 by any means possible
Blunkn I would happily donate hundreds to someone qualified and passionate about HL to make 3 happen.
Blunkn all 3 probably
Blunkn Or a peaceful protest at Valve HQ.
I vote on 2. Valve is corrupt and needs to be stopped. It is the only way.
3
I think the worst part about this is it actually sounds like it would have been a good game.
I did not doubt that for a day after the end of ep 2, this franchise for me is always like a tradition. Every time a new Half Life came out back then, i just HAD to play it. i enjoyed it in every way. There would be no possible way it would fail a true fans.
a fucking card game...
שרון א כואב הלב
Those 6 valve employees fought the other 350+ and cancelled all other games to make a card game, confirmed.
This is what stupid people think
All I can say is
Half-Life 4 confirmed...
Grainsauce I don't get why you keep say half life 4 confirmed since the next half life game that was suppose to come was half life 2 episode 3 unless Gabe thinks that 4 come after 2
He is joking, HL2 EP3 Will be a card game.
Hero & Poloolpp Fucking delet this
Hero & Poloolpp stfu, shitty ass joke
Hearthstone Half-Life reskin by valve.
Jackeroose98 Same ...
Jackeroose98 We're finally free at last. No point in using steam anymore
Daddy Anon I don't mean to be whiny, I merely want closure. As soon as I get closure, me and every other Half Life super fan can move to greener pastures.
Find those words again and go check out the new half life game
Just read the story, I don't know how to feel. This is the end of a time, of a legend, of our childhood, of our dream. Such a bittersweet 10 years. What an epic conclusion. Good bye, Freeman. Good bye, Half Life.
DomZeal except it's literally not the end of Gordon freeman as a man, and it still just ends on a cliffhanger. Nothing ended.
Zest It's been years at this point, and we've heard nothing. If they were going to do something they would have by now.
Someone should just make a mod for HL2 that's based off this story...
It wouldn't take long for someone to start making it.
Kevinyock EXACLY WHAT I TAUGHT
G_Boy What did you teach?
Guzmeme Gaming yes bro! If only I was good at mapping
I can imagine it being like Black Mesa, a really professionally made mod based on this story.
I have the overwhelming urge to hug my buddy Rob, whom cosplays as Gordon (and met at a convention). He and I are such big fans of the Half-Life series, and I know that he'll be devastated upon hearing this.
Simply don't tell him, ignorance is bliss
awww man, i just imagined the reaction and i shed a tear... hopefully it goes well.
We got the story.
We got the technology.
We might not have the money.
But we can do it.
We can rebuild and create our own Half Life: Episode 3.
We may, but money is important, you will need the voice actors, you will need the rights for the game, you will need everything to make it.
Kenneth Chou
Or you cam just make a mod with fan voice actors. Hace plantee? AM2R? It make take time, but at this point I'm guessing it would take less time than the actual gane to be released.
SHUT UP AND TAKE MY MONEY NOW!
I'll find some homeless people to voice act.
I'll scramble the names and stuff of the game to separate itself from the game.
Kenneth Chou there are plenty of people that will va for free if its hl3, mods dont need rights and since this isnt official valve cant even sue
*Half-Life Episode 3's*
"Holy shit! Has it-"
*Story released by Marc Laidlaw*
"..."
The Wise Guy but Marc laidlaw is the writer of the game
I know, I just thought the news initially was of something akin to HL3 being confirmed or leaked in some way. Instead, I just get confirmation that HL3 isn't being developed and this is as much we are going to get of Half-life for a looooong time
A looooong time, in other words, means indefinitely. Sad to say its true.
Well it's good enough isn't it
Better than nothing
I... hurt myself today...
To see if i still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real

Yup, now we know half life 3 was never planned
wouldnt mind dying right now
But EP3 was never released! HL3 can happen!

Sorry m8, no medic can heal this series.
I wonder what happened that changed Gabe's mind on Half life? He went from "after orange box we have to get episode 3 out" to "i have got nothing to say about HL episode 3"
Probably realized it would be expensive as hell to produce.
You would think that by now money shouldn't be an issue for him since he has a net worth of $4.1 billion. Or maybe that is the problem.
We can officially mark this day as when Valve fully died.
Valve died when Mannconomy came live.
You must be a moron. So you're saying in the next week valve will somehow go bankrupt or something because of something like this?
Apano He means they died on the inside, that they don't care anymore.
When tf2 dies then valve dies
Underrated comment
Guys that made Black Mesa should make HL2 ep 3

"I expect you know better than I the appropriate course of action, and I leave you to it.
Expect no further correspondence from me regarding these matters; this is my final episode.
Yours in infinite finality,
Gordon Freeman, Ph.D."
I've been waiting 13 years for closure . . . and I am now at peace. Thank you, Half-Life
The very first... and very last words ever spoken through the mind of Gordon Freeman. The closest we will get to hear his thoughts. I gotta be honest, that last paragraph got me hard indeed.
This confirms Valve is no longer a game company
Crowbar collective the world is looking at you, please, please please please, get the rights to half life and finish the franchise
You guys can do this
Yeah, the same game company that is just relying on micro-transactions (hats/other items in TF2, Knives in CSGO) along with taking a bunch of other franchises and making games of them (Dota 2/Artifact).
Ain't no fresh way in hell Valve is letting go of the right, just out of spite.
>Valve is no longer a gaming company
because artifact is the ONLY game they have planned?
Conaman yeah their progress rate with black mesa is abysmal. They don't have the skill, spirit or resources to do it...
Nah they are not great they don't take feedback on board, check the steam forums out the game is a mess lol.
Half-Life. It's finished...
I guess we aren't getting started?
Wake me...when the game comes out.
*You are suddenly brought back for a trilogy of terrible sequels*
Third one hasn't come out yet, had faith.
...wait
FlandersNed Wander Over Yonder Season 3 will come out before Valve makes a new Half Life.
Why is this not completely blowing up?! This is huge gaming news!! Ten years we have been waiting for something about Half-Life, and now we finally have it!!

matt w people are sick and tired of waiting the sequel.
well fuck. I made a bet on hl3 a while back. guess my hair turns pink now!
Like your vids m8 but I gues my theory of a r t I f a t being a ploy to get $ so that valve can have $ to finish hl3 is dead

Radioactive Walrus Preach. Respect for the man
How could Valve do this.
+sebster555 Their original writer left over a year ago dude.
true
even
microsoft will made 2 brand new age of empires afer a decate (age of empires 2 hd doesnt count)
Why the fuck don't they just give us Half Life 3 with an updated version of Deathmatch and put microtransactions in, if they're that horny for microtrans? it's retarded.
Because lots of money makes you lazy.
and now, Doom Eternal (which is basically a remake of Hell on Earth, AKA Doom 5) is now coming next year.
I really don't know what to say about this situation... I can accept as a gamer and a lover of the Half-Life series that HL3 will never come out, it's hard but I can, I just wonder how much backlash is going to happen to Valve after this... people aren't gonna take this lightly (if all this information is true that is, and we have no evidence to prove it wrong).
valve was already on life support with the release of artifact, now they're completely dead
They're just Steam now. Anything happens to it, Gaben will sell it and back down.
ShootingStarAJM I understand what you are saying and I agree... we just gotta wait to see what happens now.

Marc Laidlaw is truly amazing. As I read the end of the text, I felt emptyness and yet some sort of relief. As if I were jumping out of realities.
the hyperborea can take us places mate :D
TISQUESUSA he is literally one of the best writers in the industry, its a damn shame his talents were unused for nearly a decade at valve
I wonder how Valve will respond to this.
Umbrabellum They won't.
Valve? Responding?! Communicating with fans??!! Nice joke.
"oy vey!"
Umbrabellum Knowing Valve, they likely won't respond at all. I would love to be wrong, though.
They're not gonna do shit, they don't care about their fans
Wow.. and it still leaves things on a cliffhanger. Still doesnt explain who Gman is.
Lets be honest here, Valve wouldn't explain who he is even in the full game, it makes for a good sense of mystery.
Chase H. MatPat made a good video about g man imo
wasnt matpat's shitty theory debunked?
It was by oneof the heads on the game soon after it was uploaded.
Chase H.
He's Dr Freeman
Since this is the closest we will ever get to episode 3. I think we can all agree that hl3 was ealier than the pyro update...
IT'S. THE. STORY. OF. HALF. LIFE. 2 (TWO). EPISODE. 3.
NOT. HALF. LIFE. 3.
Max Headroom I know but people refer to it as hl3.
So, I also said hl3 to make it easier.
Max Headroom GabeN has said the episodes were supposed to equate to HL3
+Jason Petersen That was their original idea before Source engine became outdated. After they start working on VR and Source2, they dropped the episodic format and planned to make an actual Half-Life 3 at some point in the future. Needless to say, they dropped that too.
They never announced anything, so much time passed it was concluded that they will skip the episodes and aim directly for a new game. The story wouldn't have reached another continuation without having released a new material beforehand anyway, so HL3 or HL2:EP3 is interchangable definition that doesn't matter. It's the same thing and they both don't exist.
I'm calling it. This will be high on trending and be your most viral video.
maybe valve with copyright strike it down .....
lol that would just piss off valve fans even more. Bet gabe just slaps someone and calms down.
Make-Trix 4 hours and it hasn't broken 100k views. Nobody even understands what just happened.
It's already number 1 on Reddit.
JNH1225 youtube views and likes arent updated quick enough to reflect the true numbers. wait a few days
I feel special yet sad at the same time to be one of the first people to see the closure of the Half Life saga. The ending was something none of us were expecting at all, but at least I'm here before this blows up and valve receives colossal backlash for what has just happened.
Domino the Dominator
"Unforseen consequences"
I feel the same way, but it's been 4 hours and this video hasn't broken 100k views. Almost like nobody even cares.
Domino the Dominator We may be the first people to see this, but I'm sure this video will pick up more attention.
Domino the Dominator im confused. please explain what is happening
I was here when the video just uploaded dude, less than 30 views.
There's a team over at /r/DreamsOfHalflife3 being assembled to make a group similar to the crowbar collective to develop a new half-life fan made game based on Mark's story using the Unreal Engine.
2987ms How can I support?
2987ms Unreal Enigine 4? You cannot make a Half-Life game without Source.
Warden Freeman unreal engine 4 is better than either source engines
It's still undecided, I'd agree they better stand with Source. Black Mesa is doing fine with it and other engines might not have the same feel of mechanics.
no, hold off and make it with source 2
unreal engine is not ok
I think the first and final paragraphs have double meanings.
*SPOILERS*
While Mark may be talking about valve, Gordon is probably talking about how he no longer recognizes any of the rebels because he is now stranded in the future.
Nick Becerra well yeah
And there he came to be known as Samurai Jack
Nick Becerra Stranded in the future, doesn't know if the Combine won or lost. How far? Far enough for Earth to recover? Far enough for…Portal 2 to tale place?
omg what if portal 2 takes place around the time gordon arrives in to the future?
DuckIsDark SAMURAI FREEMAN
Response to artifact probably
Jimmy12A Literally only the people working on Artifact like the idea of it.
That means valve is cluttered with autistic fucks
Trymphus Tell me something I don't know.
the earth is flat
Trymphus Please tell me your not a Flattard and your jokeing.
Project Borealis is working on it.
After reading it, all I can say is. Half-Life 4 Confirmed.
Ends on another cliff-hanger. - But in all seriousness, this was so god damn depressing. Only made me hungrier for more Half-Life.
HL3 cancelled; HL4 confirmed instead
What cliffhanger ? Alyx leaves with the G-Man, Gordon witnesses that the Combine is all powerful and that to resist is pointless. He got saved by the Vorts at the end but he retires so, yes, this is clearly the end.
Actually, since this is the script for episode 3. This would take place before HL3, which is why it ends semi-openly.
Failed Abortion But Episodes 1, 2, 3 are HL3, so nope, the story is over
BAGUETTE FUCK YOU, i just read "alyx goes with gman" I HAVE NOT FUCKING READED IT YET, FUCK, FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK FUCK im gonna kms now
Its sad that we are going to have to rely on the community to get HL3....
Why valve? why....
6 years ago you were awesome, 10 years ago you were legendary.
And now you're making a shitty card game...
That card game really tops it yes. like i understand everyone likes different things, but i doubt that 90% of fans wanted that x D
Even if the community manages to make HL2E3 it will never be as good as valve....
Ramsey Bolton you do realize what an engine is, right?
They Sould Make Hλlf-Life 3
lets go copy paste the hl 2 episode 3 plot in every valve game review!

sorry guys now it's fixed!
So.... we get a niche cash-grab card game and a short (although well written) text document ending to a nearly 20-year-old franchise that people waited anxiously for 10 years to be continued. That's it: Valve is dead. Without Steam, they'd be bankrupt in months.
Remember, Marc left Valve years ago. This was something that was sitting on his chest for 20 years. So he decided to let it all out, and probably pissed Gabe off in the process.
fuck gabe. fuck valve
Just a friendly reminder: without steam they still have CSGO, TF2 and Dota2
Freaty Clalk without steam, people can't play dota, csgo, and tf2
Valve without steam would have been bankrupt AGES ago without hl3
"I...worked on this story for years...and...he just...he blogged it..." -Tyler "VNN" McVicker
I don't even want Half Life 3 anymore.
Valve is dead to me.
Wishful thinking is a bitch.
Corycogo He clearly cares. Get your literacy checked.
So fuck me for having hope?
Fucking edgelord
I can't tell if you were fucking baked or kicked as a kid.
Obviously I was baked.
It explains why Im so damn hot.
So it's over then. I will then die an incomplete and sad death in the future.
TrollForce don't die yet, we still got free man mind
That's to live for :)
TheDragonfriday Thank you
tl;dr version of the story
Resistance buries Eli, Alyx/Gordon fly to borealis, crash in arctic, find borealis in combine research station, they go in, they find mossman, borealis can travel space & time, alyx, mossman & gordon get onboard, alyx wants to destroy ship, mossman wants the rebels to have it, they argue, alyx shoots & kills mossman, alyx wants to send ship to combine homeworld as a time-bomb, she does it, alyx is saved by gman before it explodes, gordon is saved by vortigaunts before it explodes, after being saved gordon is like several hundred years into the future or something unsure of whether or not the rebels succeeded
I personally like the first half, I don't care much for the second half.
TheBuragi
So it means...we can't do anything about Valve not making any part 3s or good games at all?
I possibly think Gordon would have met Chell who is possibly in the future too. I think the rest of Half life would heavily focus on Gman and his mystery and his plan (More of the darker backstory) and eventually Gordon would go back in time and find Alyx. Why would he Vortigons put Gordon there? And why didn't Gman save Gordon this time? This makes Gordon a threat to the Gman?
Alyx just had her father murdered, she wouldn't be thinking straight, and she sees Mossman as an enemy who played a part in his downfall
Maybe Half Life 2 Episode 3 wasn't supposed to be the end of the Half Life series and would have had a third sequel as a follow up
Alyx is saved by Gman? Seems like he sees something in her that he saw in Gordon and Shepard as well. I'm guessing that gman goes towards those are have such courage to change future and make history.
Where do Gordon Freeman and Jon Snow meet for drinks ?
The Crowbar.
Thanks for the clarification buddy.
Actually the crowbar snaps in two
@Raytastic Fool me once...
God, I feel so much emotion over this. Cold, empty disappointment at finally being confronted with the outcome I knew for years was coming.
Thank you, Laidlaw, for putting an end to it all. I'm going to go and contemplate my existence and maybe consider becoming an alcoholic.
Thank you, Marc. Finally, some closure. I really hope he wasn't hacked or something, though, and it's just a trick.
I don't think he was hacked. I sent him an email thanking him, and he responded that he was glad to help give me closure. Thanks again, Marc.
*In the meantime, this is where I get off*
WHAT THE FUCK TYLER IM TRYING TO SLEEP
oh now after seeing this you won't be able to ever sleep again no no
I was just watching Xavier Renegade Angel.
Mr.Pat omg me tooo!!!!!
Sleep no longer matters.
I feel like Xavier is making some kinda weird comeback
This is quite saddening, the reason imo that this happened is one of two:
1) Marc Laidlaw's work got shat at all over, everything went for nothing, so he was not 100% amused by that / decided to post his own take of what was to happen, which is now a totally different thing.
2) Valve is seriously not caring about anything Half-Life related in the next upcoming decades.
Whatever the case is, just shows that ValvE is in the wrong here...
So this is it then. May not have been the way I expected to get a conclusion, but we got it.
It's better than no conclusion, that's for sure.
Nah dude your getting a conclusion in the new half life game
That was the second best thing I've read in my entire life.
Mass effect provided the same amount of closure. Except the half life ending is just a way of saying: "Everything you've done is pointless, go die"
*INSTANT CLICK*
Mr. Ordinary ikr
Mr. Ordinary Hey again, Loon Tink here.
Mr. Ordinary
*INSTANT DECEPTION*
Heyo man
instant deception? This was easily the least deceptive VNN title.
This is more official than we will ever get
Not really... Go look at the trailer
You know what Valve could've done? Ricochet 2. There would at least be SOME people who would like that. No one cares about a stupid card game.
I would've become the best player EU for Ricochet 2.
A Player 69 noone cares? it will still make valve more money than hl2e3 would
A Player 69 half life franchise is dead, now cry yourself to sleep
Seriously.
I want to wake up from this nightmare
*W A K E M E U P*
G_Boy They closed half life 2 but never said half life 3 was cancelled.
Hey b0ss *WAKE ME UP INSIDE*
MR BONES LET ME GET OUT OF THIS WILD RIDE
Assignment: Terminated
Subject: Valve Corporation
Reason: Demonstration of exceedingly poor judgement
You can hear the excitement in his voice lol
Edit: I rewatched the video and realized how depressing this whole thing is. So many years. Waiting. Finally being told but not in the form of a game. I'm sorry. This is truly the end of valve
Disappointment, you mean. At this point HL3 is unconfirmed.
Dr.Papersalt this is a bad thing
Teabag Johnson well yeah.
lost8 how so?
hl3 wont release...
So half life 3 is never happening.....FUCK!
Don't worry m8, at least we have atifact..............
Kill me
tomasbar
lol
G_Boy I'm getting older and I just wanna play this game before I die
Time to choose..." - Gman
i blame artifact
I blame DOTA and mobas.
mufin I blame valve
Blame Gaben

In your face VALVE
I'm glad about the current situation, gaben has deserved this and even more for his disloyalty to fan base
Are you the type of kid that liked to play with fire?
I'm the type of kid who liked to play valve games :)
You're glad that valve is making money hand over fist and that almost every non half life project they've gone into has been a huge success? Cool.
Are you glad you're still shoving your head so far up Valve's ass that you keep defending them while they don't give a shit and backstab everyone? Cool.
Oh, they will care soon.
Trust me on this one, they WILL.
[SPOILER ALERT]
is it just me or at the end Gordon could be at the same place as Chell at the end of Portal 2? I mean, it's a calm place in a distant future that no one can tell if human kind has defeated the Combine. I would love to see those 2 meeting, but I kinda understand that both of their stories might has reached its end.
Its not the end of Gordon's journey yet. Far from it.
WaitForGLaDOS
The field Chell finds herself on after Portal 2 is fake, after walking a few steps she bumps into the plastic sheet that we thought showed the outside.
you did not hear this from me
Lubie Placki no that's fake
it would be hilarious if they releassd hl3 instead of artifact lmao...
lets face it valve isn't going to do this and valve is dead
lspvps I would very much like that
lspvps Imagine how loud the audience's reaction would be. Pure happiness. Applause that takes 20 minutes to stop. Or more.
RATTL3 D3M BON3S imagine the fallout 4 hype but x100 of that
lspvps it would be the ultimate troll
its both interesting and sad to see that half life as a franchise has almost officially come to an end, I really appreciate this closure though, really do.
>e3 2020
>gaben walks onto stage
>a large three slowly fades in on screen behind him
>but nobody is in the audience to see it
>gaben stares tentatively into the empty auditorium in front of him
>the sound of a single 13 year old neckbeard drilling into his nose while muttering "muh artifact lore" resonates throughout the empty space
>a single tear makes its way from Gaben's eye down to his cheek
>as it falls to the floor, Gaben remembers the old bottle of double malt that was gifted to him by a fan after the release of EP2
>stashed in one of the drawers at Valve's new shiny HQ
>and the gun next to it
>with one last sigh, Gaben looks up at the auditorium's reflectors, knowing it's the last time he'll ever see them
>"Thank you, and goodbye"
Its a sad day for us all gentlemen.
Indeed it is.
Viet Anh Nguyen definitely something to ask the writer
Viet Anh Nguyen I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Gman doesn't have a story he's just a mysterious figure they made to never be answered... MAYBE artifact will give us our answer that's probably the closest we will ever get...
Viet Anh Nguyen Game Theory did a video and it makes sense. Go and watch it
Artifact... a dota 2 card game... explaining who gman is... no just no...
Now...was it that hard valve? the story is right there, nice and short...would it have been that hard to turn this into a game?
Carlos Christ yes it would you have to stretch that to at least and 8 hour plus game
i thought it was suppose to be an "episode", meaning short
Half Life 3 is THE MOST wanted game of all time, if Valve can't make a game that would live up to the hype, the ENTIRE community would go ballistic.
toot toot the hype train is massive
either A:valve could not live up to hype
B: why work when you get LOADSAMONEY off steam? I wouldn't
C:it's all a secret plot by the spy to shove his baguette into us
D: it's a secret plot by gaben to make helf loife 3 or ep 3 look better when it comes out
who the fuck told them to wait 10 fucking years, just do it 2 months after episode 2 and all this hype wouldn't be here
Shit made my heart skip
pillsbery Same. Then I watched it and my heart stopped.
Just read it....

Yeah...me too. Not excited at all as a matter of fact.
It's almost as if we are supposed to play it as a game or something
Vae Victorious Films I read it but it's not the end of half life yet because this only talks about 2
I'm too depressed to cry.

Valve News Network I'm in a similar situation. I have an interview tomorrow! D:
tnx for 1 fucking wakeup that didnt want
it is really interesting
Just woke up, couldn't open Facebook for some reason, came to RUclips and saw this, I couldn't even make my coffe properly
Good God. This was over 4 and a half years ago.
Why deal with the backlash if it's bad I mean VNN said they aren't afraid to make HL3 I'm not convinced and plus the cons like outweigh the pros.
they're in a position were it doesnt matter because they have steam
You just answered yourself. That's not what Valve will do. They are different and we have to accept it.
Oh fun. Grandmother passes away last night and this shit comes out too? Come the fuck on.
Hey, thanks man. I know this is the Internet and people are cunts most of the time but I actually appreciate your sympathy and compassion.
Always glad to not let someone give up. :)
Eh we'll see sooner or later.
Laidlaw is writer, someone with a passion for story. His story garnered the attention of millions, who longed to see its conclusion. He must have ached to be able to share his final vision. This is the end result when you crush artistic aspirations with corporate greed. Resistance.

I hear the people making .txt file backups as we speak...
I dowloaded everything on my pc from the github, I suggest you do the same mate.
I already did
And backed them up on discs :P
LoL
this cuts me to the corr the first and last time "Gordan" speaks to us is to say good bye....why valve....why did you leave gordan for a card game.
ebacyes don't worry I'm sure they can always make a half life card game/MOBA
That Honnestly hurt to say but at this point wouldn't surprise me.
If they did it like gwent from wither where their are factions from all of their games I would understand(I would still be pissed) but they didn't they went for Dota.
