Pretty much the same thing with SS13's curse, where there was no proper remake in almost two decades. Most of them started and flopped quickly. Now we got SS14, RESS3D...

When I saw the title I thought that Valve was making a new version of the behind the scenes book "Half-Life 2: Raising the Bar". Have the book and hoped that a redux one would be about the dev time from HL2 to Half-life: Alyx.
The Final Hours of Half-Life Alyx is pretty much what you hoped for.
I love this beta games, not only for Raising the Bar: Redux... But also Dark Interval and others, whose names I can't remember right now. :)

The sort of pea soup green is a big bummer for me for it not being in the mod, I really loved that poison that everything was leached in the Beta maps.
Dark Interval is SO FRICKING GOOD though! Like i just wanna mention that if you want to play a Half Life 2 mod that really looks like the beta concept art brought to life, it's absolutely worth giving a look. Personally I actually like it more than RTBR, but they're both quality mods.
Dark Interval is great, but it's development progress is just so glacially slow. Obviously that can be understood given there's only two people working on it compared to the couple dozen on RTBR, but still.
yeah dark interval was great, but RTBR came in hot... hard to say which I prefer. because dark interval still has that old source feel to it.
@@egyptianspaceodin1373 DI feels like if you released HL2 in its Beta era in exactly that time, as if it were released in 2003. It maintains that same feel of a game from that time.
RTBR is if you took that same idea but said, "What if HL2 had been made in more recent years?"
I like dark interval a lot more than rtbr because it feels like half life 2's world fully realized. I've only seen clips of what they're working on as I'm waiting for them to release part two fully completed and what they have is beautiful.

@@drunkonsuccess779 Your wrong, it should. Flat screens were available at the time however if this mod is simulating the prototypes of what HL became later on CRTV's would look better and make it fit more in place.

I love RTBR and appreciate the team's contributions to the community, but I gotta say...Dark Interval is by FAR my favorite mod.
I finished the Demo a few days ago and I gotta say, I do wish they add a option to toggle their over stylized models (headcrabs, metrocops, etc) to something more akin to the beta/retail

Wish this mod was available on Steam for everyone to see and to get the clout off it but in its current state... It's a great mod and quite possibly the most polished one something that the Missing Information team could never.
I don't think the project necessarily needs to be completed. The allure of Half Life 2 Beta lies in its potential, the fantasy of a game that might have been. Even unfinished fan projects offer a playable glimpse, fostering our imagination where the game ultimately lives.
Yeah, I really like the presentation here. Successfully taps into some of the disparate art directions HL2 almost explored while still maintaining the polish expected of a final product.

RTBR is one of my favorite mods too! I am sure it will be fully finished in the future, the team has been quite professional so far.

The most irritating battle IMO is the end of Ravenholm where you have to hold the line against spawning zombies of all types including Gonomes and not let father Grigori die. Not only is it overwhelming as hell but father Grigori keeps repeating the same voice lines over and over.
Yeah but you get to use Annabelle, which forgives anything bad about that battle.

Like you, this was the first HL2 Beta recreation mod that i've genuinely sat there and admitted it was REALLY good lol, despite the issues, it kept me incredibly hooked
I want so much to see div7 but I know that this kind of projects need patience and don't need to be rushed but man if div3 will be released in 2025 I'll be 40 before we can see div7

This is pretty sweet! I'm looking forward to playing this myself. I like how they modeled the weapons (i.e USP and MP7). I hate the way the MP7 looks in HL2 and it's episodes.

I've personally never had any interest in the HL:2 Beta stuff. I've always preferred the look and feel of the released game. However, this looks like a super interesting project, and if it ever gets fully completed, I will 100% be playing it!

My only complaint is the Physgun takes an extra second when taking it out before you can use it. Playing HL2 and mods all these years I'm used to the retail Gravity Gun's deploy speed. Other than that I honestly can't think of anything negative to say.

this wasn't intentional and we've fixed it internally now, so in the upcoming depot demo it'll feel much more like retail
Finally you are giving this mod the reconition it deserves. For me, it shares the place as best mod for half life whit Entropy Zero 2. I really wish the team can also get a steam page so they can get a better reconition. I know it's beta content but they are giving it their original touch, enough to make this mod not just another beta leak release.

I remember being quite the liar as a kid, lying about my credentials, and my expertise, I have no fucking idea why, I was actually approached by the original team who was developing the game, and I was like, oh my god… I am fucked aren’t I?.
I was brought on for this, like nebulous phase, doing mapping, for some reason I could never get hammer running on my PC, I didn’t even know how to fucking use hammer, so I had to build mock ups in sketch up of all things, and they looked terrible. And I decided that I was just going to let myself go.
Formally apologised to everyone involved, and that was it. Quite the stupid venture. Granted, I did meet some wonderful people like Cvox, ambient noise & so on

This proved Half-Life Beta would be great as the retail, however the conversations between the characters was odd, but probably because it's not the original VA with their charm. Also i dont think that G-Man intro is in the beta, Mike Shapiro did many many lines that didn't make it into the game. I expected this mod to be short but i was quite long and i really enjoyed it. It felt more depressing and oppresive.
do the divisions "lock on" to each other? I'd like to be able to play through them continuously.
Since division 2 had division 1 already included, when all 7 divisions come out you'll probably only need to download division 7
Yes, Div 2 begins seamlessly* as soon as you complete Div 1.
*unless you count a long loading screen as seamful

Have you tried Dark Interval as well? It's a more independant beta mod but pulls out the beta vibes just as well if not better than the RtBR

I know next to nothing about the beta of 2, but damn idk if this version of the game would have been my favorite game if it came out like this. Really really really dark compared to the og hl2.

For me, Raising the Bar: Redux is perfect and I don't mind that it has things like "misplaced transitions"... and the problem with "getting where you need to go", it's better that they don't change that, since that It's part of the difficulty of the game and exploration, I don't want everything served on a silver and gold platter... I want to know and experience things for myself, not always having a "guide" of where to go or what to do. In short, they put your intelligence, your creativity and your ingenuity into play and practice.
However, some things do need to be polished, although they are minor in my opinion... for example, the walks need to be more "coherent and longer" in Division 1... but that's just my opinion.

My problem with mods like these are… I just really want to wait it out and play the entire thing when it’s finally done. I love the sound of this and the Portal mod you mentioned so much, but I feel if I continually keep up with them and play each demo that is released, then the final product just wouldn’t have the same impact for me. But the double edged sword with that is, if it never gets finished, then I will either just not play that particular mod or I will play it and be sad it never got finished lol

Honestly... If, no, WHEN both Dark Interval and Raising the Bar Redux get finished I hope that other communities take a look and go "we can do that too!" and then proceed to make the best mods for their games. I want games like Halo 2 to get their own equivalent, imagine it...

It's a good mod right now but it's still got some glaring flaws. The maps could use more polish and just more work. The new models for NPCs have some issues or just look wrong (the headcrab models don't even look like headcrabs), like they were literally changed just for the sake of looking different from retail or beta.

Just started playing it today its an awsome mod I can't wiat for them too finished all the maps so I can play all away too the end like the half life 2 we know is good but it fills cool playing a same game but fills different they should of kept that version when half life 2 first came out this and overcharged mod are my 2 favorite mods of this game
