Am I the only one that feels that Megadeth and Anthrax are the 2 best groups within the Big 4? I mean, I love the 4 bands, and respect everyone's taste and opinion, but I've always been more attracted towards Megadeth and Anthrax than Metallica and Slayer (which both are really amazing and awesome too).

Could've played more Megadeth, Slayer and Anthrax riffs, as Metallica was way too over-represented. Otherwise, those riffs are sounding razor-sharp and super-tight!
I thought it was just fine. They were only really over-represented due to the "One" solo, but outside of that, it really wasn't that bad. Metallica's the biggest of the four bands anyway, so why not give them a bit more attention?
Travis LeBlanc Because that's just picking favorites and overstating Metallica. We've all heard about Metallica, but in the context of Thrash, the other 4 bands are just as important and they have just as many amazing riffs to showcase. You've got to be fair and realistic: in the 80s, people weren't just trying to play every Metallica riff under the sun or Master over and over, there was amazing thrash everywhere in the Bay Area :/

NisseAron Yeah, and you want to know why? None of any of the 4 bands are better than the other 3, they are all equals. Each one is just as important as the other. Same quality output, same influence, same generation, same footing. The way Charlie tied the jam up with more Metallica was fitting, but at the end of the day, you have to realize that no band deserves more love than the other. Just like your children: you should give them all the same amount of love.

Have you ever listened to "Among the Living" or "Persistence of Time"? Frankie Bello did an awesome bass work, I personally think that he's the best bass player in thrash metal.

Megadeth's Wake Up Dead middle riff is more powerful than any riff the other members of the big 4 will ever write.
Games'n' Guitar They're all awesome but let's be honest, Metallica are the giants of the Big Four. The success kind of justifies it, so with that in mind that's why there is an additional Metallica song. Charlie stating that Tallica are the biggest band of the lot.
This is not a criticism of the other bands, just justifying why there is no need to have another Megadeth in as well. Metallica were more successful than Megadeth.
That Wake Up Dead middle riff though, fantastic!

I'm not saying Metallica aren't more successful. It's a fact of life that Metallica alone are bigger than the other 3 bands combined. Megadeth - 50 million albums worldwide, Slayer - 30 million worldwide, Anthrax - 15 million worldwide. Total between the 3? 95 million records worldwide.
Metallica on their own? 110 million worldwide. Not to mention Metallica is capable of selling out 20'000 seat arenas on a bad day, and over 100'000 tickets at a major event or festival on a really good day. On their own as a headliner.
Megadeth has the 2nd most impressive concert draw, and they sell 1500-3000 tickets on a bad day, 10-12'000 tickets as a solo headliner on a really good day. They also headline major festivals that can bring in over 20'000 people, but that's because festivals are festivals. People are there because there are dozens of awesome bands. The headliner is just what grabs people's attention. They have played as a solo act on one occasion in Argentina to over 25'000 people, however. They were the only band playing that night, so all 25'000 were there for Megadeth. That in itself is quite amazing, and neither Slayer nor Anthrax could ever say something like that.
But Megadeth is still much bigger than Slayer and Anthrax, so another Megadeth song would've been great.
And do you listen to Megadeth? Because the riff he played of Megadeth was In My Darkest Hour, not Wake Up Dead. They're both completely different riffs.

Andrew Medina Megadeth was definitely the most technical band of the Big Four.
Dave Ellefson, Chris Poland, Marty Friedman, Dave Mustaine and Nick Menza were awesome musicians.
Torgo Nudho But Mustaine is very sloppy these days. Holy Wars prelude to solo and the solo, he fucks it up a little. Mustaine also failed the solos the Kill Em all live show and he is supposed to be a professional. But Mustaine is very good though, and all of metallicas bassists have been technically better than Ellefson

Slayer is the fastest, Megadeth is the most technical, and Anthrax is the most melodic. Then Metallica takes all of that and makes the perfect blend of metal.

iHatePop Anthrax is not really that melodic, depends on what you mean by melodic?
LykABoss Well Anthrax's vocals are the only actual melodic singing. That makes a much more melodic sound. Metallica and Anthrax have fairly similar riff and song structure with speed and style of riff. The main difference is vocals. None of thrash is really melodic, but the vocals give a false sense of melody to the heavy riffs. Good melodic metal is like Children of Bodom, Kalmah or later Carcass. The riffs are just to die for if you're into melodic guitar work.
Not enough anthrax love man! Easily the most underrated of the big 4 in my opinion. If I were to order them it'd go Megadeth>Anthrax>Metallica>Slayer. I'd put Metallica higher but after black album they never wowed me. Although Ride the Lightning is one of the best metal albums of all time and my personal favourite metallica album
