It's easy to forget that well before carbon plates, rods, and plush foams, people were running marathons for decades in the most basic shoes imaginable compared to today's standards. People nowadays are far too spoiled with these essentially, luxury shoes! 😂
Just 5 years ago, the Streakfly and Adios were flagship marathon shoes from Nike and Adidas. through brainwashing from brilliant marketing, they now have people feeling that if a shoe is not 40mm ,you can't possibly run a marathon(or half)in them. Any shoe is a marathon shoe. If a shoe like the takumi sen is a comfortable shoe for you,you should absolutely wear them in a marathon

Coming from the future here, Edd. Just bought the Sen 10 at 50% discount during the 9.9 sale and just came back from my 1st run. I had the Sen 8 but I never truly gets to enjoy it as the sizing is just too long, but the same size is now perfect in the Sen 10. I felt so fast in the Sen 10 and really like it. Will definitely be my 5k/10k race day shoes soon!! Tq for the video, Edd, love watching your videos always
I've been racing for 35 years and I have to say the Sen 8 and 9 have to be my favorite road race flats of all time. Shockingly light even in my US size 13. Looking forward to snagging some 10's.
I’m still using my 2 pairs of TS8’s, the 2nd which I was unable to pass up when I saw it quite discounted. I use them occasionally for speedwork but primarily for 5K/10K races. I may do a HM in them at some point, because I’m very light and petite and they are very comfortable to me. I do think they are the most beautiful, sleek shoes I own; a truly classic design. I’m glad I’m not missing out on anything significant in v9 and 10.
Love my Sen 8's (another EddBud recommendation), when they wear out I'll deffo pick up a 9 or 10, really very little to complain about, one of my all-time faves.
Thanks for the thorough review Edd; excited for this one and will definitely be picking it up when price drops. Got some more miles left in a pair of 9s before then
I was able to pick them up when they were launched here in Australia 1st week in Dec. Since then I have put some speed workouts and a couple of 5k races into them. The different lacing up of these shoes has become a pleasant ritual rather than a burden as some suggested to me. They are really fun to run in and if you can get them on a discount then they are a no-brainer buy (imo).
It is without a doubt my best competition sneaker, which is why I already purchased this version 10 that arrived here in Brazil at the end of last year. With my Takumi Sen 9 I did 3 half marathons in 2023, with great results. I'm not a light runner, I weigh around 80 kg, but for me it's perfect for 21km, even though it's recommended for use in 5k and 10k. I haven't tested this version yet, but I hope to do so soon. I use my Puma Deviate Nitro Elite Racer SP for speed sessions. 400km, the glitter on the midsole is disappearing but still running great. If they ever give up I might go for the Takumis.
I’ve got a few pairs of adidas. Adios pro 2, prime x strung and adios 7. Never tried a takumi sen but I love the other 3 so might have to treat myself to a pair.
Love my sen9 for harder shorter training days. I’m up to 110ish miles and the upper has torn slightly but I’ll use them until they fall off my feet 😅 Great review as always, might wait until this time next year to grab the 10 when it’ll likely be on a good sale.
I'm a bigger runner and love these for speed work. Grabbed these on sale for $100 in the US. Lightstrike Pro provides enough cushion for me and its resilient. Gives great control and its lightweight and the upper is great. How are these going for you @EDDBUD 6 months later?
As a heavier runner I run in the Adizero Adios Pro line, the lightstrike is my favorite foam. I would like to see Adidas make a "Takumi Sen Pro" kind of like Saucony made a Kinvara pro but I am not sure how different it would be from the Adios Pro, maybe a wider heel and a notch in the midfoot
@@jp05598 @Clift0n to meet the needs of runners like myself who would like a taller stack for more cushioning and a wider heel, and no its not the Adios Pro because the Adios pro has a narrow heel
Did you note in the sample size UK 8.5 that the 10 is meant to be 19g more than the 9 so interesting than only 10g for you over the 8. In our bigger sizes was expecting about 30g more which would kind of rendered it a little pointless for me. No sign of the 10 yet in a UK 13.5 so am currently “out” but struggling a bit to see the real point of this anyway if you have an 8 or 9 already. I like my 9 but never found it faster than the higher stacked shoes and obviously not as versatile. Good to hear it hasn’t got too much wider though. I had feared that was the reason for the weight increase.
You will need the 13.5 Tim. It’s still a glove of a shoe though at least not so harsh in the arch. Had my alphafly order cancelled sadly. Ran out of stock 😭
@@EDDBUD oh no! Mine have seemingly just arrived but am AWOL at moment. Ridiculous amount on StockX & eBay. Almost to the point of being a consideration. Will keep an eye out for the 10 in a 13.5. I'm having the opposite hopes 😅 I was praying for more width at mid foot. This why I missed the Taku 8 and ...finally got the 9 half size higher. Now i have to fight the heal slip ...and the harsh upper is still squeezing my bones! Well 🤷♂️

Do you think these would compliment my Boston 12 or are they similar. Great channel 👍
I was lucky enough to try that. Maybe it's just me but it feels wider compared to the previous version. It also feels a little stiffer but I really cannot tell the difference once I am running in them. In my opinion if your v8 or v9 is still good you don't need to get this one.
Another great review Edd! Starting off the year strong. I was wondering what you use to clean your shoes? They always look next to new for these videos.
I like the glass fiber roods better than the carbon rods - I Find them more snappy (or launching feeling). So i think ill stay with my takumi 8 Also ... Really want Adidas to create a true half marathon shoe - I.e. all light strike pro but with 36-38mm stack . Right now Adidas has a great 10k under racer (takumi) and a great marathon shoe (pro3).
I get what you're saying, but honestly why not just use the Pro? I don't think 36mm would have enough differentiation for most of us. Probably heavily depends on weight of the runner too. I love the Sen8 but at 205lbs I did a HM in them and...yeah... wouldn't likely do that again. LOL I'd probably take the Pro3 next time.
I have the 8s and 9s. My go to for 5k, 10k and VO2 max sessions. From what you're saying I won't be investing in the 10s until they're as discounted as their forebears. Great shoe but hard to see the justification for having this year's model (unless you're a shoetuber).
I just don't get on that well with adidas, the Pro 3 are rubbing the toes on my right foot quite badly and most of them are too narrow for my foot so I'll stick to my Streakfly (I do like the Prime X Strung V.1 though!)
Hey Edd, was waiting to hear about this shoe from you! I got both TS9 and TS8 (obviously i love them)... and it takes a few miles to break in... before it becomes one of the best shoes ever! From what some reviews are saying, this one pushes the foot every so slightly on the medial side... did you feel that?
Ah Edd, starting off 2024 with an absolute banger of an initial review. 💥💣 Awesome as always. It's extremely hard not to want this shoe - the look and especially that green is calling me. (I can hear Evil Kermit's voice)😅 I look forward to more reviews and comparisons to see if it's worth using my Sen 9 as a trainer and potentially getting the 10 later. Thank you Edd. 😎
I feel like even 10 version is upgraded somehow, you wouldn't see a difference in performance with older: Takumi 8 and 9. Maybe feeling would be different but I guess that your results would be similar to older versions.
I liked the 8s over the 9s although i probably could still use a bit of break-in (little over 100k) to soften up parts of the upper. I'm wondering if the top of the tongue is the more ridgid plasticy foam of the 9 or the softer fabric-like of the 8? The 9 tends to rub the front of my ankle and gets super uncomfortable within about 10k. If it was cut a little lower it wouldn't be a problem
Good morning Edd. First and foremost I would like to wish you a happy new year, full of health and happiness (and winning a very good lottery prize). I found the comment about the midsole foam durability and feel over time (compared to fuelcell and zoom x) one of the most interesting and spot comments. In this regard, I would love to know on how would you compare it against ffturbo, nitro elite, and pwrrun pb.
@@EDDBUD And this is the kind of update that the shoe companies need to concentrate on when they know they have a good formula, incremental stuff every two years or so, at least in my opinion.

I was wondering what you use to clean your shoes? They always look next to new for these videos.
Reshoven8r and some good old scrubbing. 🤣👍🏼
If you only have one shoe for everything, what would you pick? Boston 12 or takumi sen 10?
I like the glass fiber roods better than the carbon rods - I Find them more snappy (or launching feeling). So i think ill stay with my takumi 8
Also ...
It’s quite a bit firmer on takeoff now. I think it’s the new rods.
I just don't get on that well with adidas, the Pro 3 are rubbing the toes on my right foot quite badly and most of them are too narrow for my foot so I'll stick to my Streakfly (I do like the Prime X Strung V.1 though!)
Nothing quite like the primex strung
Hey Edd, was waiting to hear about this shoe from you!
I got both TS9 and TS8 (obviously i love them)... and it takes a few miles to break in... before it becomes one of the best shoes ever!
From what some reviews are saying, this one pushes the foot every so slightly on the medial side... did you feel that?
It’s a little more firm in a good way.
Ah Edd, starting off 2024 with an absolute banger of an initial review. 💥💣
Awesome as always. It's extremely hard not to want this shoe - the look and especially that green is calling me. (I can hear Evil Kermit's voice)😅
I look forward to more reviews and comparisons to see if it's worth using my Sen 9 as a trainer and potentially getting the 10 later.
Thank you Edd. 😎
Glad you enjoyed this one and thanks for the positive vibes.
My TS9 keeps giving me blisters in my little toe. I really love it tho. If the 10 is indeed wider it would be a perfect shoe for me
Only a touch wider. May still have the issue
@@EDDBUD Thank you for responding 👍🏻
More like a felt type tongue in this one
Good morning Edd. First and foremost I would like to wish you a happy new year, full of health and happiness (and winning a very good lottery prize). I found the comment about the midsole foam durability and feel over time (compared to fuelcell and zoom x) one of the most interesting and spot comments. In this regard, I would love to know on how would you compare it against ffturbo, nitro elite, and pwrrun pb.
The lightstrike pro is one that benefits from some break in. But it retains its properties far longer than other foams.
Are these ok for a wider foot? Thanks
They are a narrow fit. May be an issue
Looks similar to my pro 3s ??
What a beautiful shoe
Yes it’s a thing of beauty.
Well edited video! But what about that background music? I'm not a fan. Just a small detail for me though.
It’s been in the last thousand.
Looks like a real winner, unsurprisingly.
It’s a good update, hard to get it wrong
@@EDDBUD And this is the kind of update that the shoe companies need to concentrate on when they know they have a good formula, incremental stuff every two years or so, at least in my opinion.
Nike Streakfly an excellent competitor in terms of price, but is it worth comparing in terms of quality 🤔 I’m sure adidas is the most balanced model and it’s not even worth arguing.
My pair of the streakfly had tears in the midsole after 100 miles. The outsole was not what I would call durable
Good morning!
Morning!
lots of green shoes back there
Green and white. Colours of my home town team
What is the upper like? I had two pairs of the Adios 7s with the mesh and both gave up within 100km
Really? I’m surprised to hear this
If I was looking for a race day shoe fit a 10k- half marathon what shoe would you recommend say your top 3 :)
The Sen should be in there. Fast r nitro elite, maybe also the endorphin elite. All that bit more responsive shoes.
Thanks :)
Saturday evening here in Berlin... perfect time for my outing...😱 I'm a "Takumi fanboy". And...I'm hopelessly addicted to running shoes. Terminally ill. 100%. - Well, I'm feeling better now. It's official.😇 by the way, happy weekend-🏃♂️ @ll
They are a top draw addition. Very concise and subtle update
Is this ideal for a 2 mile race??
No reason why not
So is 10 better than 9? if they cost the same
Yes
Takumi sen 10 can reduce 5-10 sec. In 800m please reply
Maybe. Depends on the person
Great review. Too bad sen 8 is already a bit too firm to me, so sen 10 is probably a pass.
Im 81kg. Does that count as a heavy runner?
I have the 9 but my arch is not happy with them
Sounds pretty light to me!
Hi midsole man, how much do you weigh?
About 72kg ish before pizza
I don`t think the Takumi Sen are my Shoe, although they look interesting. I`m heavier and have a wide foot, so will stick to Boston 12`s. Maybe the Adios Pro 3 sometime in the future... who knows 😄
I’ve always had to half size down. 8.5 us to 8us for adidas. Have Bostons and adios pro 3 in 8US Should i get that 8 or 8.5?🤣
Don’t size down. Go true to size on this one
@@EDDBUD thanks Ed🤝🏾
Stop Ed, I can't spend more $$$ saving up for alphafly 3. 😂
Have you tried Elden Ring Edd? Banger.
Yes got so far and other games came along. Just finished dead space remake and have Jedi survivor next!
Absolut legend!@@EDDBUD
@@EDDBUDDS remake was great, but RE4 remake was my game of the year.
Not a shoe for a Nervous Nerys! The trading estate is your jungle and you're top of the tree!
Ideal for going cruising this one.
Thanks for adding weight of person in to reviews. At 15 stone this won’t work for me.
Yes not enough perhaps width and cushion here. 👍🏼
Adidas really make some stunners. Unfortunately, my wallet can't indulge my vanity.
That’s why we grab those 8/9 at the mo.
@@EDDBUD Oh I've already got the 8s.... but... SHUT UP BRAIN
🎉

Nike ZoomX Streakfly on the treadmill for the fast intervals between 86 and 90% of maximum heart rate. Adidas shoes sound like someone running with Dutch clogs!
It’s quite a rubber application here for sure!
£150 even with discount 😂 it's mad
Yes but a great shoe for the cash
