jeez,i remember when the adios were the go-to marathon shoe just a few years ago. i remember Kimetto setting the marathon wr in the 3s,now the adios looks like a track spike compared to today's higher stack marathon shoe. i rocked the 4s in '18 for a philadelphia half marathon
Great review. This looks like it’ll be good for proprioception but maybe also as a 5k shoe for lighter runners. Looking forward to the long term review of this one.
To be clear, I don't run it anymore, I use ot as a sneaker / ready to run in whatever surface I need ... My knees can't take that kind of pounding anymore.....
there's dozens of other options with a higher stack so i'm glad they went this route. they have the sl and takumi sen, so the adios felt a bit useless. the saucony sinister has been the only real option in my estimation for this kind of shoe and i couldnt squeeze my foot in that one so i'm looking forward to this
Glad you mentioned a track spike because that’s what I was going to say it reminded me of. You have been rocking these for years so cool to see you got the newest drop. Think I may buy a pair of these and use them for driving shoes😂.
We’ve really gotten spoiled with cushioned running shoes. 10 years ago I ran a bunch of marathons in the Adios Boost v1. Today, the mere thought of running a marathon in shoes like that scares me. I always have intentions of training more in lower-stack shoes to build up strength, but the high-stack trainers are just so damn comfy…
I had to roll my shins out after watching this review due to the stack. Thanks for what you do Ed, hope you and your family have a good Christmas if we don't see you before then
arrived yesterday, gone 1/2 size up. it's going into my rotation for the track intervala. evo sl for easy, takumi sen 11 for short races and pro 4 for longer
Is that clear outsole material rubber, or is it the similar looking polyurethane they're putting on the Adios Pro 4. I understand that material is light, grippy, and very durable.
I've picked up a pair, but I've yet to get out in them for a run. Will be interesting to see if I agree with your initial assessment, especially as a heavier runner. The main reason I'm commenting is to assist with the RUclips algorithm. Apparently it favours longer comments over shorter ones. Who knows if there's any truth to that rumour.
Did all my races and “fast” work in the effective Adios 1 before Vaporflys so was pleased to see a few pairs of these in my UK 13.5 late last night and picked up a pair. Was thinking could be for some intervals on firm trails or track as I often did with these in past. Besides looks like could be my lightest “Road” shoe.
Cripes! Adidas have really committed to the styling of the adizeros. All carbon xeroxes of the evo 1. What if (like me) you think the evo looks crap? Funny vid though, good vibez!
I am actually more excited by this shoe than EVO SL. Great value, IMO decent outsole, light!!! Definitely great speed day shoe! This will replace my Takumi Sen 8 in such workouts.
Absolutely spot on as always, Edd. I concur with you - if offered a Takumi Sen or Pro model and now also the Evo SL. Why would one opt for this? Too niche. Sidenote - what is up with Adidas and their lace-quality inconsistencies? 😅
I'm Aidos fan, luckily I bought a pair of Aidos 8 last month and they'll bit the asphalt by the end of the month, meanwhile I'm waiting your impression on this iteration after more miles running on.
I’ll be waiting for the adidas sales season to come before I pick up this shoe just for comfort walking. They usually have nice colorways after a few months of introduction.
Poor man's Takumi sen. Jokes aside, I never had outsole issues with Adidas shoes before. I don't expect much wear until 150k maybe visible wear on the outsole after 200 to 250k.
Usually I do my intervals on the track, maybe when it gets discounted i'll get a pair… But I just got the 8's, so until I wear them out, these are out of the question. I don't run marathons, I prefer 10k and an ocasional half-marathon, so I can fit shoes like these in my rotation
Might get these over the evo sl for intervals/fartlek runs. I love the feeling of the adios 8 on foot. I have the neo vista and when I put on the adios 8, I feel fast 😊. No road races for me this year. Mostly ocr races and probably a 10k with mixed surface. Running 2x trail and 2x road(intervals/fartlek and long easy).
@@EDDBUD end up buying takumi sen 10 on 35% discount (cheaper than evo sl and adios9). Compared with the adios 8, they are much more comfortable. Feels significantly higher under foot. The upper is better than the adios, vaporfly 2(either loose or lace bite) and neo vista(tight and loose at the same time). I find the stack height and feel of the midsole to be perfect. Ran a half marathon race in the adios 8 with no problem. Takumi sen 10 really feels like a super shoe without an aggressive rocker which can be intrusive in the loading/push off phase. Thanks for your vids! You are one of the most trusted reviewers here in RUclips. Along with Ben parkes, fordy and the run testers. Seems like the “big” shoetubers in America only reviews shoes that are sent to them.
Stockpiled the Adios 6 as a perfect general parkrun shoe….the outsole on these latest shoes are a nonsense. SL2 is just unbelievable value and does most of what this would.
Great review as always! I will probably skip this one and probably pick up another adios 8 on discount. I loved the 8 for track sessions and shorter races. This one with the narrow heal, just seems less stable. Maybe I’ll try it down the line when the 9 is on sale as it’s hard to argue with the price.
Love my Adios 8's, the midsole did soften up on them after a bit, and the 9 looks really good but the outsole is a bit worrying with it not being full continental rubber
Hmm… The adizero range was only 1-2 years ago a group of great versatile options, and we complained they weren’t distinguishable enough. The range is back to carefully tuned use-specific shoes, and we are complaining not all are versatile enough. Oh, the horror. I did my first 5k in the EVO SL this morning, and I think it’s superb. Runners’ Knot was not a problem - no lace bite at all. I think the upper is one of most accommodating for “normal” to wide foot runners. I also prefer the heel on this to the Adios 8. The LSPro midsole from the Adios Pro 3 minus rods or wishbone torsion is great with the old school dogbone torsion. I’m 55, and I finally realize I need the comfort and “performance” more than I need the control and pop. The young’ns can keep that going. There is enough flex and return in this shoe to give me the get-up when I want it. But the EVO SL is happy being the Daily Trainer it was design-engineered to be. The outsole is incredible for the EVO SL. I think the Adios 9 is back to being an elite 5k-Half traditional racer - No heel traction necessary if it’s not meant for that use. Most runners who lust for this won’t miss it. There was nothing like the Flagship Adios went it hit the scene, and it may be a good sign adidas decided to restore it true to its former self which makes room for the Takumi Sen and Adios Pro to evolve. They shouldn’t all move in the same direction if the use cases are different which is where some other brands are struggling (as adizero did 2019-2022). That’s my take. ✌🏽💙👟
Got the Adios 8 last month but only done a couple of runs in it. Brings back the fun to running. I can’t fit into a Takumi Sen which sucks 😔 Might try the Evo SL once it comes out on general release
It seems like Adidas is working the training rotation around the Evo SL + Adios 9, with the Takumi Sen (5/10) and Pro 4 (1/2 and marathon) as the race shoes.
@@EDDBUD Wouldn't that be the intention, though? You spin the legs with the Adios for the fast stuff, then balance yourself on the Evo "Pogo-ball" SL for the longer and slower...
Adios 8/9 - short (at a time) workouts, intervalls, all out hill repeats Takumi Sen - stiff short racer Evo SL - uptempo daily trainer which can also go faster... bit like the Mach 6? Boston 11/12/13 - plated longrun shoe Pro 3/4 - HM to Marathon racer, maybe also 10K, maybe also for workouts Sounds good to me, i just don't own a single Adidas running shoe 😅 What about the Adidas-nonAdizero Lineup? Besides endless cheap shoes there are Supernova Rise, Rise 2, Prima and Solution, then this Ultraboost stuff... 🤷 I have no clue about them, i just now that the Supernova Rise is less stiff than all other Adidas shoes and a relaxed, low bounce easy run daily trainer. Prima is bigger cushioned. Solution is the mild stability version. Rise 2 maybe a bit snappier than Rise 1, ultraboost and others i never heard of them.
Yes the sen is more rigid though I find the upper is more flexible here which allows the foot to head towards the front of the shoe. Not quite the tailored fit in the Adios 9
That’s what I always I always think. I’ve still got a pair of Nike Free 3.0s for nostalgia sake, and I’ve never run faster than in those. High stack be damned. Low stack, low drop and all road feel
What?! its out? I think its important to have a low stack option in your quiver. I have over 300 miles in the 8..Once a week/ every other week is good. The 8 i believe was a 28 mm heel stack and maybe the 6 was 26 or so. Ill pick it up when its available in US for sure although that outsole doesnt look promising.
I had to retire my Adios 4 Boost after almost 8 years and more than a thousand km, I bought the Adios 7 and the upper was destroyed in less than 100km, anyway I was able to use them up to 600km, I hope these last longer...
Interesting observation on this shoe being like the old Takumi Sen (pre 8) and the new Takumi Sen being the Adios. Also... CPU outsoles are bulletproof...the outsole on this shoe should be the most durable part of it. If it is like other CPU outsoles the shoe should be falling apart before the outsole even shoes any wear at all. I'll be curious on your thoughts on the AP4 when you get one.
Light-Traxion outsole is CPU (Cast polyurethane) some stuff the chinese use on their run shoes. Sagasu told it is super durable. (His vid on A pro4, outsole.) I believe. Time will tell.
They'll make a nice parkrun shoe for those of us that don't want carrbon plates or high stack. Are they as wide as the Adios 8s? I got mine in UK10 but should've got US11 as I didn't realise Adidas do size conversion differently
Entry-level Adios isn't a heel striker's shoe (the message was a bit faded with Adios 8, but it was loud and clear with Adios 6/7). From a tactical point of view, now that entry-level Adios finally weighs less than Takumi Sen, it starts making more sense.
I love your commentary, production value and attention to detail. But... I think your scoring system is too generous. I wish your scores were more reflective of your commentary - that you used more of the range. Absolute scores are kind of a folly. Of course the worst contemporary shoe is better than what i was training in in 2003. In my opinion, the scores should be relative to contemporaneous options. Or revist old scores as an edit on your old video descriptions. Im not sure what the solve is, from my perspective, but your scores seem to generous and inside too tight a band. Again - I love your stuff. Probably my favourite ShoeTuber, so this opinion is offered as feedback in good faith x
the Adios range have been my favourite daily for the past few years. Had to send my 7's back as the upper started to fall apart (adidas refunded without an issue). looking forward to getting these as the SL2 are phenomenal with a bit more cushion. Ed, is the rubber anything like the crystal rubber that was on the original puma iso 1/2? that stuff was indestructible.
I like wearing the adios 8 as a casual shoe for work, but now it looks too much like a running shoe. I hope it’s still comfortable enough to wear casually
A question on the scoring; why is an outsole you’re so unconvinced about scoring 2.5/3 (83%)? Even the peg 41 scored at least 2.6 in every category. Just wondering what’s the point of the scoring range 0-2.5?
The outsole durability will be like the old Nike Mayfly. If you heel strike at all…probably not going to last very long. Definitely seems to be a direct competitor for the Streakfly.
Not sure about the enormous 3 stripes on the shoe tbh, think if I had the Adios 8 I'd stick with that 😊 A white shoe on muddy UK road/trail routes is a bit of a silly thing to wear too.
Im currently running most of my daily and speed ks in the adios 8. Unfortunately the 9 doesnt look like it will be up to that task. The outsole looks to be much more minimal. It looks an awesome shoe but i dont think it can do the low stack daily stuff that the 8 was great for.
I had a pair of the Adizero Adios 7s, which looked great but they pinched the top of my foot, which is odd as I've not had issues with any other shoe. I'll be avoiding these.
Good take on these shoes. They are niche. I think those runners that have access to tracks might like them as their track shoes but for those of us that run on roads, pavements and grass probably not as much. Thanks for the review Edd.
I’m not sure about this new styling direction from Addidas either. They’ve just released images of the Takumi Sen 11 and it’s identical to the others. Think it’s going to get boring quite quickly. I liked the fact the whole line up had an identity but different nuances and the colour drops looked the same but with unique touches on the older shoes. These just look too similar for my taste.
Come on man, Ed-ios Budd was sitting right there for the taking 😂
Darn. Opportunity missed
@@EDDBUD don't worry we still have hope for the Ed-ios Pro 4 🤞

The rebel is much softer. This has more response.

No offence taken sir!
Why this name "Adios" came from? From "Adios, amigos"? Thank u.
This shoes sounds to be a speed shoe at 5k pace. I still have a new pair of 8 waiting for the spring. This is a maybe for me.
the Adios range have been my favourite daily for the past few years.
It seems ok so far. Though dry runs only.
Hello im a sprinter. And I think about buying this shoe for drills and easier 100m-400m repeats. Is this shoe stable eough?
Spot on for that!
New Year’s resolution: understand what a gusseted tongue means
Bits of fabric round the side of the tongue to hold it in place. 👍🏼
I like wearing the adios 8 as a casual shoe for work, but now it looks too much like a running shoe. I hope it’s still comfortable enough to wear casually
Sorry I might have missed it. Did you get the Adios 9 in the same size as for your Adios 8? I'm asking because you said that the Adios 9 feels narrow.
I went true to size here. Adidas seem to be a little longer in my 11 than about 3 years back
Is it good for daily training and long runs ??
Daily yes. Long runs might be a challenge due to the stack
Would you recommend then for Treadmill running?
Don’t see why not
A question on the scoring; why is an outsole you’re so unconvinced about scoring 2.5/3 (83%)? Even the peg 41 scored at least 2.6 in every category. Just wondering what’s the point of the scoring range 0-2.5?
Grip is ok. But durability is a concern
The outsole durability will be like the old Nike Mayfly. If you heel strike at all…probably not going to last very long. Definitely seems to be a direct competitor for the Streakfly.
Might be ok with my initial testing even on some wet leaves it was ok.
Not sure about the enormous 3 stripes on the shoe tbh, think if I had the Adios 8 I'd stick with that 😊 A white shoe on muddy UK road/trail routes is a bit of a silly thing to wear too.
I'm sure you've already cosidered doing a shoe(t)out between the Adios 9 and the Takumi Sen 10.
Weekend content right there. Trading estate test. 🤣👍🏼
@@EDDBUD Nice
Im currently running most of my daily and speed ks in the adios 8. Unfortunately the 9 doesnt look like it will be up to that task. The outsole looks to be much more minimal.
It looks an awesome shoe but i dont think it can do the low stack daily stuff that the 8 was great for.
👊🏼🤖‼️

I had a pair of the Adizero Adios 7s, which looked great but they pinched the top of my foot, which is odd as I've not had issues with any other shoe. I'll be avoiding these.
Why would you buy this over the Boston12?
If you like a lower stack lighter shoe
Good take on these shoes. They are niche. I think those runners that have access to tracks might like them as their track shoes but for those of us that run on roads, pavements and grass probably not as much. Thanks for the review Edd.
Any good for running 5/10kms races if that's the max distance you do?
Spot on. Good treadmill shoe too
I’m not sure about this new styling direction from Addidas either. They’ve just released images of the Takumi Sen 11 and it’s identical to the others. Think it’s going to get boring quite quickly. I liked the fact the whole line up had an identity but different nuances and the colour drops looked the same but with unique touches on the older shoes. These just look too similar for my taste.
They need to do the black versions with white stripes.
With my wide foot I’d be down to 10mm stack after five minutes. So confused by all these Adidas shoes now.
Thanks Edd! Bit confused about your outsole score though. You made it sound pretty poor, and yet still gave it 83% (2.5). Is it really not that bad?
Ok grip. But the new formula is untested. Can’t tell durability thus far
nice one. i hate max cushion
