Creating Abstract Art Photography in Affinity Photo

- I was recently contacted by one of my newsletter subscribers, asking how to reproduce an artistic abstract effect with their photography. In this video, I explain one way to do it using Affinity Photo.
If you like this abstract effect, you can produce many more using Affinity Photo. It’s worth experimenting with more layers, different blend modes, and filters to blur the image layers. Although in this video, I use copies of the image I’m working with, the image layers don’t need to be the same. You can use different images to reproduce the multiple exposures by copying them into the same document as layers.

Very clever use of Affinity here, Robin - watched it though as I wanted to see how you did it. My preference is to use Nik (now as v#6) as you mentioned at the end, but now I have this other option to use - thanks a lot!

@@RobinWhalley ? for ya. My iPhone is takes 12mp pictures, is it possible to make it more Megapixel format, where I can print out in bigger size where the picture looks good?
@@gordon9177 Take a look at Topaz Gigapixle AI. You can download a trial version from their website. It will depend on the quality of the actual image file but you should be able to create large image for print using this software.

It should appear as an overlay on the video at the point I mention it. I checked and it is correctly set up. It may have been a blip in RUclips at the time. I've also added it to the description now.

Robin I usually love your videos and have been a user of Affinity since Version 1 but I am dead against this type of image fakery. Mainly because it is not difficult to shot a genuine abstract image using ICM I have been doing it for years and have made some great images in camera with single exposures it just takes practice. Each to their own but this over manipulation of images is going to ruin peoples perception of photography in my opinion.
Personally, I'm not a fan of ICM at all, although I recognise it can produce some amazing shots when done well. Despite this, someone asked how to do it in Affinity Photo and they aren't alone. This is a request I receive at least monthly if not more often. When enough people ask me how to do something like this, I try to present it. Sorry it offends you but I have no way of knowing that when I made the video.
Impressionistic maybe, but hardly abstract. If you have a G9, there's a high res mode consisting of 7 images taken in rapid succession. If you jiggle the camera a bit in this mode, you get something like this that's more natural looking because less precise. But this technique could yield very interesting results depending on the treatment given to the duplicate layers.
Not my words; it's how the effect was described . I'm showing how to replicate the effect in a photo that was shared with me. Hopefully a few people will find some valuable information in the video.
