- On February 3, 1981, Rodney Dangerfield, the king of one-liners, stopped by the Tonight Show to share some laughs with Johnny Carson, the king of late night.
1:32 “I got hit by a car. I told the guy, ‘Are you blind?’ He said, ‘I hit you, didn’t I?’”
2:17 “What a childhood I had. My mother never breastfed me. She always had a headache.”
4:50 “I’m not sexy at all. I went to the sperm bank. They used my sperm to get a woman pregnant. They had to get her drunk first.”
6:25 “I have no sex life. The only sex I have is when my doctor tells me to cough.”

Really on that night. Thanks Rodney, you are the best.
Basically Rodney does a killer stand up monologue and then instead of a mindless interview he gives a killer sitting down monologue. This man Dangerfield was peerless.
Rodney was the best…never another and one of a kind, RIP, Mr. Dangerfield!
Exactly. I read an interview w/ Rodney where he talked about rehearsing every second of these appearances. He prepared for weeks as he understood the impact that these had on his career. There's one Carson clip on RUclips where he kind of bombed. It turns out a studio had pushed him to make an unscheduled visit to push a movie and he was obviously very uncomfortable.

A man who answers every question with a joke has a lot to hide. What was he hiding?
He never comes out of character. That's his secret
Rodney never fails to crack me up. With Johnny as his comic wing man, you simply can’t lose. Late night gold.
There will NEVER BE another Rodney... absolute LEGEND 😂
I remember sitting with my now deceased mother watching these clips of Rodney and Johnny. So very special times. I love you Mom.
I come back here every 6 months and I laugh like I never saw it before. He's a legend.
Same here. 😂
This is one of his best performances on the show , and that's saying a lot : he's usually great but this was just fantastic !
Same dude
Rodney passed away 14 years ago! Hard to believe!!!
I still laugh every time i see these bits! Come back Rodney! The world needs you!
Everytime he lies he fixing his tie.
RIP Rodney
@@derrickhaimraj3585 take out your butt plug and listen again...
Derrick Haimraj ...i noticed that too with the tie...but he made it work!
Sadly John, if he was living today during this time, he would asked for to die. P.C. and liberalism would kill him. 😒
Hes killing it on this one. Rodney was the best and is in his prime here.
This guy could melt the hardest of hearts and bring laughter to all who heard him.He was simply the best comedian ever.
Amen to that.
No doubt
No doubt
I love how he doesn't always cuss (except a little on albums) but can make your mind be the dirty part. All he does is plant the seed it's magical
Just a great entertainer !
Johnny was a real pro. He allowed his guests to do their thing without constantly interrupting.
Today, Rodney would've been cancelled by libtard protesters in the crowd.
duh
Johnny Carson had a perfect chemistry with Rodney, his pretending to be surprised is hilarious.
9977
Hopefully you're not referring to Johnny's reaction when Rodney asks him... "Well, what do you want to do now?" Because that was completely genuine. Sure - Johnny and Rodney had a routine set in advance, but that was pure improv and genuine laughter from Carson! One of my all time favorites.
"...Her belly button has an echo."
-I didn't know that
That always cracks me up.

Simply the best of all time, Johnny Carson and Rodney, I miss those guys. Everybody laughing, no thin skinned sensitive people, just good people having a good time. What a great time in life
I’ve heard all these jokes a thousand times, and I still laugh hysterically.
Me too!!!
when im.down i watch rodney
No kidding. There was NO one like Rodney. And there never will be again.

He's a legend. Seen him three times.
Johnny’s laugh was so priceless and genuine.
I have seen almost all these Johnny Carson and Rodney Dangerfield clips and I'm so grateful to see more of them they are the best 👍
There'll come a day when Komics will lower their underclothes, If Any, maybe squat then defecate on stage😲. Jury's out whether they'll face audience😨. That'll be considered High Comedy...

I was 20 years old when this came out. I'm now 58 seems just like yesterday. Took it for granted that Johnny Carson would always be there , Time Marches On.
I am turning 40 in a few months...and I completely agree with you!! Time rolls on so fast...seems to get faster actually!
Rodney Dangerfield was the best. He’s one of the few comedians that makes me laugh no matter what kind of day I’m having. 🤴🏼King of comedy.
Rodney is always good for a laugh and Johnny is the perfect set-up man. I miss them both, especially now, when this country so needs to lighten up.
Especially considering “ Joe Biden is a nightmare “ let’s hope Trump comes back in 2024!!!
@@joerappe1777 People were still complaining the country needed to lighten up the entire time Trump was president. What difference has Biden actually made? People are going to complain about the same thing regardless. The president doesn't change that. My daughter flunked her driver's test, she couldn't get used to the front seat
This joke killed me 🤣😃
He always says he gets no respect, But from the sound of the audience he gets a lot. The Greatest !
Has to be one of his best appearances on The Tonight Show. Every joke killed.
Rodney may have passed away but these videos live on. I'm so glad his comedy can live on through you tube and other means. Very underrated comedian.
The best comedian of all time !!!!!
Yep
by far
paul thomas Don Rickles is on the same level.
@@sinatra222 Don Rickles was pretty funny. same quick wit. hard to measure different styles.
And don rickles
I was 3 days old when this happened. Wish i could've been old enough to see and appreciate it then... I'm 39 now, have all his albums, and appreciate the heck out the man, the legend that is Rodney.
Johnny Carson was great, even great enough to be the sidekick to set up Rodney for some of the best one liners ever delivered.
I saw Rodney in person about 30 years ago. The absolute best ! So nonstop funny that I was having difficulty catching my breath.
*Mega hilarious without a word of profanity.* Just lets his material speak for itself.
*Pure class.*
I laughed more in 7.5 minutes here than I have in any recent 1 hour special. What a legend
Johnny was the best because he just let his guests roll and didn't try to get in on the act.
Classy.
Rodney was seriously on a roll that night
I Never Get Tired Of Listening To Rodney
Dangerfield Doing His Thing On The Tonight With Johnny. Absolutely The Greatest. RIP
Even if I've heard them before, Rodney's jokes still crack me up big time. What a crowd, what a crowd !

He's has to be the funniest man ever, King 👑 of the one liners. I'm so glad I can watch him on RUclips. RIP funny guy, your the best.
RUclips just keeps recommending I watch again, I can't resist. Rodney was on fire 🔥 that night! Really A++ material and delivery. More Rodney!!!
Two legends, they don’t make entertainers like this anymore
I agree. Today they all curse to make it funny but it's not. Any comedian that has to use bad language is not good in my opinion. Plus today they are all woke.
Comics like Dangerfield and late night hosts like Carson come in only a generation. Hopefully two such guys come around again because they’re in short supply now.👍🏾
you can tell Johnny really likes Rodney. The way he does his act is impeccable. With that deep New York accented voice and bugging out eyes always grabbing his tie or collar nervously. He makes it look so easy and of course it's not.
john noe ... The Best always make it look easy.
I saw Rodney on David Letterman, and David was so stiff they brought out a coffin.
Johnny was a great straight man. He just nudges Rodney along. It’s because Johnny was a great stand up comedian himself.
Rodney's mind was second to none the rapid Pace in which he would churn out jokes is still unmatched till this day. Definitely on my Mount Rushmore of comedians. Wish I could have seen him live..
Man, he was on FIRE!..
What's funny is that I thought I'd seen every Rodney bit out there but I have never seen this Johnny Carson episode.
thank you !
It's like whenever I need to find something that stands a chance of making me laugh, I always return to Rodney.
I have watched this excerpt at least a dozen times in the last year & Rodney & Johnny Carson never fail to make me laugh. Keep posting this segment👍.
Rodney and John Candy were a rare breed of comedians who were well-loved for just being themselves
One joke after another, every one a gem.
Seriously, EVERY joke was hilarious!
@@mogatdula 99%. There's always a few that Rodney himself, points to being "untested". He will follow-up those few occasions w/a funny look on his face that proves to be a laugh anyway. He was about the best comedian w/rapid fire one liners.
The world NOW is swimming in distrust. Rodney was and always will be a MIRACLE of FUN & good humor that brings people together in respectful laughter!
Geesh where did shows like this go? All class which is something we don't see these days. Loved Johnny amd his guests
I went to Vegas in 78 to see Rodney open for Johnny Carson…it was fantastic‼️
Carson was amazing, he could quickly interject short questions and statements to keep Rodney's act going smoothly. This was definitely the best of television.
this guy could do more GOOD jokes in 7 1/2 mins than today in 1 hr w yapping n bs...this was stand up kids..poconos to Hollywood...live on Rodney...class act...
But I never saw him Poke His Noze.
It takes soooo much tallent to just keep these one liners rolling amazing!!!
Two of the best in the business!
You bet he was.. I laugh every time even though I know what's coming !
Dangerfield was amazing. He always had the crowd so enthusiastically supporting him.
Rodney Dangerfield was gifted, Each joke was funnier than the last, True icon!
Gawd, I miss these guys.....Thank the Lord for film/video...
What an animal. That he keeps up those rapid fire jokes (which are pretty much all hilarious) is impressive. One of the very best ever.
"I told my doctor I think my wife has VD. He gave himself a shot of penicillin" LMAO. Uhhhhh. My side hurts.
Dr Vinny Boombotz
My God, is it even possible to be MORE of a laugh machine than Rodney? It's absolutely amazing
He said he made a Toast to his wife the best woman he ever had and the waiter joined him LMFAO!!!! Dude was a Madman
Saw him twice in Detroit. The audience was exactly like this, yelling different things at the stage....Rodney NEVER missed a beat.
Comic GOLD.
RIP 🇺🇸
One of the funniest comedians we've ever had his stuff never gets old
The most complete class act comic around ever from any country!!! Absolutely beautiful, i love this guy he derved to live for another 82 years, such a guy!! The look, the voice, the great mind, great guy all round he will be missed by so many people for so many years!!
Sometimes, when i feel down i watch Rodney and make me laugh. Even though i never met this guy, i love him. And no matter how many times i've watched him, i never get bored. We live in an era with shallow comedians and lots of swearing. Rodney brings the nostalgic years of the 70s and the 80s. Such a talent comes once in the lifetime.
Short very effective jokes! I love this guy!
When Carson left and all those great comics started passing away, they should have just ended the late night talk show tv genre. It will never be as good again.
U r very right!
I like Conan!
@@OfficialStudio_11 Conan sucks.
Jeffery Burnett There was no Internet or social media. Actors & comedians HAD to go on his show for publicity. Johnny was nothing great, just the chosen one that got the seat.
Agreed
Listening to Ed and Johnny chuckle is just beautiful
"He had a rape charge reduced to tail-gating." Now that's a great lawyer.
Proves, that you don't need to use profanity to be a #1 stand-up comedian.
Thank You RODNEY👍
He had a rape joke at the end
When I was little we were very poor. Thank God I was a boy or I wouldn't have had anything to play with!!
Hi
@3 name changes allowed every 90 days. Get lost you twat!
Thomas McDaniel: Okay, Fred Sanford
@ekimshield Listen up. Where did you get your diploma? In the University for the mentally challenged? All I said was get lost you twerp.
I'm laughing at your diagnosis. My sister is a much better psychiatrist as you will ever be and she diagnosed me good mental health. So why don't you take your wannabe diagnosis and shove it where the son don't shine!
@ekimshield Poor sad little miserable individual. You are lonely and you have no friends. The only joy in life you have is to load your verbal crap here on RUclips and other platforms.
Must be very sad to be you!
The timing is impeccable, the jokes bat .750, he owns the crowd. Comedy heaven.
I miss his great self deprecating jokes! No one like him! One of the best comedians of the best 50 or so years! Rest in peace, Mr. Dangerfield!
That guy was so quick and naturally talenand I love the way he grabbed his necktie and the movement the body language. Hilarious
My favorite RD joke:
I don't snort cocaine, I just like the way it smells!
I only smoked weed once, but I didn't know what I was doing, I was high off cocaine!
The cocaine line was in a song by Ray Wylie Hubbard written back in the mid-nineties... Not sure who came up with it
His jokes are more timeless than music. I love the crowd interaction with Rodney. As soon as he walked passed those curtains you knew he would work the crowd like a boss, and commandeer the show. Straight up showstopper and the best of all time. Doesn't even cuss in his acts...crazy!
Rodney Dangerfield never gets old. One of my favorite all-time greats.
The crowd's reaction at the end gave me goosebumps.
I miss you Rodney!
👌
You can be having the worst day ever and feel so much better after seeing a clip like this
A master of his craft, thank you Rodney
One of my favorite things is to watch Johnny throw lines to Rodney . Johnny was a fine comedian but way under rated as a straight man! (Not an easy job!!)
I loved it when Carson would throw him a line and Rodney would say "No, not yet Johnny"!
Johnny was confident in his own talent, and he knew when another comedian was killing it it was also good for him and the show.
Love how the audience was chiming in:
'How fat was she?'
' How, fat? Her bathtub had stretch marks, OK?'
I grew up watching this man .he was the best . No respect
And that, folks, is what's called A MASTER AT WORK.
This may be the episode of The Tonight Show I saw in the early-1980s which I remember being absolutely hysterical at 12:00 midnight while watching Rodney work. That man will always remain a national treasure, IMHO. God Rest His Soul.
I'm sooo grateful I went thru the '80's!!!!
Me too. The only problem was it lasted 10 years.
Me too I hit it just right. On January 1st 1980 I turn 19 years old. So all my young years were in the 80s. Man what a time it was. Don't know how much you miss something until it's gone
Rick Patrick - Aids and Crack ruined the 80s
I was 16 / 17 years old in 1980. The 1980’s started in 1979 already, until about 1990. If that make sense to those that lived through it.
Rodney was one of the greatest of all time! Non stop humor!
#1 of all time.
Only stand up comedian who can sit down and still rock the house 🏠
Rodney Dangerfield was a little before my time, but I remember him growing up. Just started watching some of his stuff on RUclips and I think he is HILARIOUS. Clean comedy is kind of a lost art nowadays. Rodney was a master of it. I got much respect for him (R.I.P.).
"One girl told me 'come on over, there's nobody home.' I went over, there was nobody was home!"
His deliveries are what make the jokes even funnier, what a legend.
I broke my arm in three places,
What did the doctor say?
Stay out of those places,
Rodney is hilarious so glad we got these to still watch
Rodney not only was among the best but he introduced the world to many great comics. He’s the type of comedian that no one could hate.
I would’ve give anything to see him live in Vegas!!! So damn MISSED Rodney!!!! ❤❤❤
Las Vegas would be blessed by Rodney.
We used to recite Rodney Dangerfield's jokes in school back in the 80s. Indeed like Johnny said, Mr. Dangerfield was a funny, funny man! RIP, legend!
He’s a classic. No swearing.
This was on network TV. Swearing wouldn't be possible.
A lot of people think he never uses bad language but all these skits found on here was meant for tv this man cussed plenty let me just tell you.
He swore all the time in his stand up club dates. He couldn't do it on TV.
5:16 Sounds like a slip to me
He didn't tailor his act around swearing in clubs , he used it now and then like everyone else does , it was all one line humor , and having a quick wit , very minimal swearing , that's not easy , that's why he's a legend
i’ve heard these like 20 times and i still laugh my freaking head off thank you rodney
what made Carson so good is that he knew when to be silent
True, but even more importantly, as polished a host as he was, there was an authenticity in his support for many of the celebrities he had on then that just isn't present in the hosts of that time slot on NBC since. Carson admiring his work by simply taking a breath and simply saying that Rodney's funny before cutting to the sponsors keeps the stage actors human for the audience. That connection is what keeps folks wanting to watch. Conan could have had that had he been given a real chance. Personally, with all the channels now, as well as computers/internet, and with TV going the way of AM radio in the 1970's and 80's, NBC should just scrap Tonight, move on and do something different.
That’s funny that you said that because my dad and I were just discussing that exact same thing about Johnny Carson
You're absolutely right. He didn't constantly interrupt or try to get laughs.
Yep. Unlike Conan.
Johnny never tried to “one up” his guests! Always played it straight to let them shine.
I think that's the best routine I've seen Dangerfield pull off, and all of them are great.
The best comedian ever. There have been some great ones over the years, but there was and is only one Rodney Dangerfield.
King of the One Liners...Period!
Great stuff! Rodney D did a 3rd variant on the breast-feeding joke. In other clips he said his mother never breast-fed him because she just liked him as a friend or that she breast-fed him with a straw. This time his mother wouldn't breast-feed him because she had a headache. The fat girl with an echo in her belly button was the best gag of many here.
I’ve been looking for this set for a long time. There are several jokes in this set that I’ve never heard him repeat.
