      No joke, but really. Completion of the crafting log ensures a large portion of the items that would be otherwise hoarded can be sold off without hesitation. Do I really need to hold all these GSM gemstones? No, but I can put them to use now and never need them again.

    Additional tip: some gear that cannot be saved in your Armoire, sold for gil, desynth'd, nor exchanged for seals are actually saved in NPCs such as the Calamity Salvager and the various relic gear NPCs. You can throw away your lvl 50 (EDIT: sorry this can be stored in the Armoire, but can also be acquired from the CS NPC), lvl 70, and lvl80 nondyeable relic gear, as well as gear you get from quests and achievements because you can buy them back usually for 1k gil or even free. Go to your nearest Calamity Salvager as well as the NPCs that gives off the relic gear for all expansions to see which ones you can throw away.

    On free trial inventory sorting: i threw everything under the lv30 gathering once i hit 50 in crafting because rarely there is a recipe gonna use them. And once i hit level 60 crafting i throw out every materials that isn’t from unspoiled or legendary nodes (because i dont like waiting). Master recipes at that level use materials that can be bought from shops in idyllshire

    I'll respond to your rant with my own little counter rant
    First of, thanks for pointing out that housing items are also removed from the crafting log, now I'll have to re-fill my inventory with junk to craft it all.
    Second, big difference between a person who has played since X expansion, has done probably everything in the game there is VS someone who hardly played a year and is not just about to finish everything before another new expansion drops.
    Third, you have a 3rd retainer. Now the question is why? If your inventory is so nice and clean why would I want to pay a MONTHLY FEE for a 3rd retainer to hold my stuff?
    And no, I will hoard, you cannot stop me!
    If I managed to juggle 3 free inventory spaces on FT I can juggle all my junk for "what ifs" and, emergencies that are not as big as potential bigger emergencies that will never happen.

    Thanks, this video was necessary considering all the junk we will gather in Endwalker. I managed to make Pexaras, my material retainer, pare down to only a couple of inks I might need to craft Orchestrion rolls and Grade 5 Dark Matter if I want to overrepair my gear in the future. (I will probably toss that as Endwalker gear will probably require much higher grades than Grade 5.)
    I am going to now go to Serphinas, my untradable item retainer, and start dragged out unnecessary materia and crap to vend off. Since I got a s***ton of Rank VII Materia from quests alone, I don't need the lesser grades unless I decide to go insane and do the Zodiac Relics for the rest of my jobs. (I got Longinus Zeta and decided to just end it right there. Kess will be handling ten Zodiac relic grinds. XD)
    EDIT: HOLY PISS! Excuse my colorful language, but that's a LOOOOOOOOOOOT of Ventures. I've been doing beast tribes and only get 2 from each daily. I know you can buy ventures from other places but how did you get so over 1,000???? O_O

      What I would suggest is to level botanist and miner (and fishing if you want but it's not as necessary) by 10 levels, then level your crafting classes by 10 levels. It's not 100% accurate, but most of the time crafts sync up with the materials you can get as a gatherer.

    I've been on and off since ARR (mostly off), and I remember back when the game was young, I tried crafting, and what it did to my armory in particular, especially when keeping relevant gear for jobs I was or was thinking about leveling, was brutal, since leveling just one crafting job seems to be virtually meaningless. As a result, when I created a new character (again) when I started playing in the last year, I decided to ignore crafting until I was done leveling jobs. Seems extreme, but I've made a lot of money and kept my inventory neat by sort of doing them all in parallel. The amount of sellable and decently profitable gear that MSQ and side quests throw at you is obscene, and even when holding onto some of those gear pieces, between selling the rest and all the little gil that comes from dungeon/roulette grinding/drops, I've managed to make a good deal of gil, most of which is admittedly spent on glam items. I've got over 300 items in the glamour dresser haha. It still allows for me to decently gear each job up at 80 though, even with me blowing millions of gil on contemporary style clothing.
    And when I'm done, and start crafting, the gear management should be much less of a headache than it was.
    *edit* Additionally, this approach allowed for me to make most efficient use out of MSQ and side quest XP. After cleaning up all the lowest-level quests, I was able to turn in just about any quest I came across with a level-appropriate job that would get the most mileage out of it, thus making the leveling process even more efficient. I've still got a handful of level-sync-70 side quests I'm holding onto for jobs I'm really not eager to touch again... mainly MNK. Other than that though, and some raid-related and other side quests line, aside from my inventory looking pretty neat, so do my maps.

    When selling, just look at the selling price and make it a round number. That way you are on the average market price.
    Also, I feel that works only NOW because Square Enix is doing away with gatherable HQ items.
    While there is a lot of stuff I don't need anymore probably, I am too lazy to go out and farm stuff every time just to get a piece of craftable item done, and especially for every class that uses the same materials. Going out to get Alumen every 10 or so levels to make x leather from y skin/hide feels pointless time wasting to me.

    So as a new player I spotted a flux on the market where some mushrooms where being asked for like 300 gil a piece, which were lvl 20 botanist, 70% gathereable. They were the perfect xp farm for my lvl 21 botanist while waiting 10 minute queues on my rouge. So like after 4 dungeons of rouge I sold 150 of those mushrooms and laugh at the stupid profit (near 50000 gil just while leveling my botanist). I thought of saving some for myself because if they were so pricy there was a reason or something but I could just gather a few like nothing. I suppose the buyers were lvl 80 endwalker prebuyers or some high level thing but I got my share, and honestly I don't really need gil at my level. I have 1mil sitting around just from playing and leveling up some jobs (the game pays you if you are a healer it seems). I know buying a house is a nightmare and that I'll need money to speed level crafters (if my gatherer inventory doesn't have the items that is) but I'm not worried about money rn. But it's true that leveling like 15 jobs together eats tons of inventory, I should focus on a few jobs and only save the best weapon for a class lmao

  • @OpXarxa

    I think I'm probably missing something here because 2 things about this vid strike me as real odd:
    -using the mats I already have to complete the crafting list sounds good on paper, but the problem is general, I have plenty of some mats but missing others required for those recipes. Particularly certain commonly used, expensive items, like glues, alchemical formulas and so on, as well as of course uncommon monster drops. To actually use the mats I do have for crafting would require wasting a ton of time gathering, or a ton of gil buying those missing items. Am I missing something here?
    -...why complete all recipes in the first place? As far as I know, the crafting exp bonus you get from a first-time recipe completion is the only benefit of it, and even taht's virtually worthless once you outlevel the recipe. On the other hand there's tons of ways to level crafters extremely easily without relying on that, such as collectable turn-ins or leves. I'm guessing there's achievements related to it, but unless you're a hardcore completionist(in which case you'd be compelled to go for it anyway), those wouldn't matter. Is there any reason I don't know about to go for that goal, such as an achievement with a unique reward for it?

    • @WeskAlber
      @WeskAlber  2 года назад +1

      Gather them. Then it's pure profit. And how is it "tons" of time gaathering? If it's only one missing item, its super quick. You can also pick and choose what you make. But if the price for the item is high, the "long gather time" is worth it.
      Achievements, to say to did, for the money of all the different items give you. It's an arbitrary goal that - provided you don't throw gil at the problem which I explicitly say not to. The issue with collectibles is it doesn't clear the inventory. Which I say, either use, or just sell all those items you don't need.

    • @OpXarxa
      @OpXarxa 2 года назад +1

      @@WeskAlber lots of the items I'd need to gether, though, are on the price range of "not expensive enough to be worth farming in large amounts, expensive enough that the adding up costs would bankrupt me if I go for full clear", though. Just about every recipe in my list as I spedran through crafter leveling, I have 2/3, 2/4 items needed for it(except culinarian of course which is more often 1/5). It's not like the finished products have particularly high prices unless they are either component mats with annoying-to-gather mats or quest items, either.
      I WILL be taking the lesson to "check the market price for everything, if it's more than petty change just put it on sale, if not npc sell it as you could easily just buy more if ever needed" and slowly clear my inventory that way since I'll never again need basically any ARR/HW mats with rare exceptions... but without a completionist goal like that, there really isn't much of a point to completing crafting list, and I was confused with the video because you presented it as something worthwhile to do, so it had me wondering if there was some actual in-game reward for it I didn't know about.

    • @WeskAlber
      @WeskAlber  2 года назад +1

      @@OpXarxa Then instead of making stuff, sell it off. You're not using it, you don't want to gather, then just sell it off and make some gil.

    Problem is that I'm nowhere near endgame and I want to play multiple jobs, so my inventory gets full of gear from many different levels and I can't remember what was important for which gear set so I don't sell it or get GC seals for them. If I sell that set for one class maybe I want to play it and then now I have to go buy or otherwise craft gear for that class. The market is too competitive for common items, people undercut by 50% or greater so your retainers sit with their inventories full because nothing is getting sold. Everything is easy when you are endgame, make a guide with a free trial character and show us how fast you make that 300K gil cap. I don't spend time on leves and other content because there are literally hundreds of MSQs I need to churn through to understand what is happening to catch up to the expansions. I won't lie to you, I pay for the maximum amount of retainers, and I keep most materials. I have definitely had to narrow things down, because even 9 retainers isn't enough to comfortably store the absurd amount of materials in this game. I'm not even close to endgame, I'm in the middle of stormblood
    Edit: My stock is always going in and out though, people really pay 40k for linen clothing. But I enjoy having all the stuff around. My friend- who has been playing this game for years, comes to me, just a little sprout, to make items for him ❤️
    One thing I want to add though, I do not keep things I don't use unless I am working on getting specific master craftsman books. You say to broaden your horizons: but let me say this. From the first day I started this game I dabbled in everything, got really deep into crafting and gathering, and realized I like it just as much as the story and the "main content"
    I have no qualms about my 9 retainers full of stuff. I thin out my stock bi weekly and make a lot of money for someone who hasn't even finished the game. It's interesting how different our views are on this particular topic

    I second the crafting log. I'm slowly making my way through it (almost done, in the 70s+ in all of them) but making them all in HQ fulfills both the completionist-side of myself but also makes me a TON of gil selling. Some friends make the same things over and over again depending on market value, but I am not good at keeping up with that and just decided to do my crafting log.
    It takes less than a week to reach a million just selling things I've made; results vary depending if my retainers are selling 20 items at a time and if i'm consistently refilling them daily.
    PLUS It raises your Crafting EXP at the same time XD
    I hit 80 on almost all of them (and the ones aren't are all 75+) and I have not done a lot of Leves or the Restoration project (I've done some but nowhere near as much as people seem to be doing them for the purpose of leveling their crafting)

      Not to mention how SATISFACTORY it can be to wear your own self-crafted HQ gear when leveling a class/job, which can have the same stats as dungeon gear 4 or 5 levels above (I'm not kidding here, craft a piece of gear and compare it to dungeon gear).

    So what exactly is best for retainer classes? I have just the two, both are battle classes. Would it be best to have one gatherer and one battle? Or both gatherer classes?
    I have been making some gil recently selling items that my retainers bring from quick ventures. Haven't gotten lucky yet with a decent minion to sell...

    • @WeskAlber
      @WeskAlber  2 года назад +1

      Personally I like one battle and one of either BTN or MIN for easy farming of mats. MIN tends to have more stuff you need from unspoiled nodes.

    I sell stuff constantly with my retainers and I feel like people think I’m nuts lol. But I don’t need the random junk I pick up and the junk that sells for less than 50 Gil I give to a vendor cause it’s not worth it sitting in my two retainers.

    Welp, 90% of the items that max out all 3 of my retainers are non-tradeable glamour pieces that don't fit in my 400/400 glamour dresser :') yeah I could just get rid of them and farm the content for when I need it, but after grinding Dusk Vigil 20+ times, running Arboretum 42 times and getting through Kugane Castle 35 times for a singular item, I'd rather keep the stuff when I get it.

    It really is weird how many people horde stuff in-game, and then go on to complain about lack of inventory space. Glamour space I get a bit more since it is harder to justify throwing away older raid gear that may be hard to get back, but damn so many people do NOT understand that your gil slot is your most potent storage option. Just liquidate anything you don't need now, since unless you think that item is about to skyrocket in value, there's very little difference between holding onto it and just rebuying or reobtaining it later on.
    That said, I'm also spoiled at this point since all my gil just comes from Coffee Biscuits and submarines. Subs bring me 500k a day for no effort, and between me and my friend I pool my gil with, we have 10 characters doing Coffee Biscuit leves bringing in over 1m per day. Not having to deal with marketboard PvP is comfy.

    Free trial players if you want to instantly sink your gil, buy dark matter 7 from a vendor. I had like 2,500 by the time I ended my trial and sold them all on the market for 1:1 minimum. People will actually buy it for more than vendor because lazy

  • @GaleGrim

    1:53 why don't you just give them to mutamix instead of waiting for them to sell? even if you get materia you can't use then, the might atlest sell quicker.

    It hurt me seeing him undercut a 66,960 item to 66,000.
    If someone then undercuts (unnecessarily, but very commonly) to 65,999, will he then under cut to 65,000. 😿
    It doesn’t take much effort to under cut to 3 or 4 digits, meaning you are only ever undercutting by 1-0.1% or 0.1-0.01% respectively instead of 10-1% if only using 2 digits. Better yet, under cut exactly, or by 1 Gil!

    • @WeskAlber
