Thank you for all the wonderful tips! You’re so right in saying that we’re all built differently and we need to make garments that fit us. It has taken me years to learn how to adjust patterns to actually fit my body shape and to know which garments I prefer to knit. Your tips are very clear and like you said it’s all trial and error until you find a formula that works for you. Thank you for being so honest with your measurements, it takes a lot of guts to put yourself out there and to be vulnerable to all the scrutiny that we see daily on social media. I commend you, you go girl! It’s so refreshing to see women empowering women in this crazy world we live in! ❤
I really appreciate your feedback Charlene. This was a lot different from just sipping and chatting, so I'm very glad it was clear 🤓
They are just numbers after all 😆😆
Thanks. Lots of good information. I think the process of making modifications to a pattern is both technical and creative. I love your comment that “you own your knitting”. We make a long term commitments to our projects and we should be proud of our achievements. You definitely deserve a large glass of wine for your work.😀
I did have a big glass of wine after it uploaded for you, because I was quite nervous. It's not my usual rambly chat and I wanted to be clear and concise. I'm very relieved, this morning, to be getting such encouragement! Happy knitting Debra 🧶
I appreciate that you don't get bogged down in sweater math. My eyes didn't gloss over once. Lol
LOL!!! I was trying so hard to keep it simple, so that I didn't screw it up!
Thank you Nancy. Lots of great information. I agree our bodies are what they are, so make the modifications to knit the best fitting garments you can. I hope there was a large glass of wine after taping this🍷
Ha ha... there definitely was especially with all the "so"s that I had to ignore during editing 😆😆
I’m always late in watching. I average about two weeks behind when these podcasts are first shown. I just wanted you to know that I was really tuned into this podcast. You are so right and I appreciate the extra time you took to go through these explanations. I found it very informative. I will come back to this podcast in the future. You are right we spend a lot of time making these garments and it’s worth it to make them fit our bodies. Thank you.
EXCELLENT video!!!!!! You have reinforced and put together for me the modifications I have to make to make my sweaters fit properly. I would love to see you do a sweater math episode as well. Thank you for making this one, I for one have benefited.
I'm so glad you found it useful❣️❣️ Thanks for letting me know 🧶
What a gift to take the time to share your tried and true methods for modifying Nancy! Very helpful information and VERY EMPOWERING. I get a wee bit more confident with each garment I make when it comes to knowing what I like and what I feel good wearing! Great reminder: we are the boss of our knits! Thank you Nancy!
Leanne!! You just leave the best comments 💕 I appreciate you so much for your thoughtfulness. We will go forth and knit great garments 🧶🧶
This is absolutely excellent Nancy! Thanks so much for taking the time to put this together, you’re a natural teacher 👌 From now on I’ll be referring folk to this video any time I get asked about garment modifications ❤
PS my mother also liked to tell me that I had ‘child bearing hips’ from a very young age 🙄
Why do they think it's a good idea to tell is things like that 🤔🙃 Thank you Ailie...I'm so glad, also relieved that it is useful. It's outside of usual sipping and chatting 🤓
That was very kind of you, Nancy, to share your learning and tips with others. Great knowledge for all of us even if it doesn't specifically apply to us, as we may take this and use it for our own adjustments, or to help a friend. A valuable resource, to be sure. 👋 from southern Ontario 😊
Thank you Allyson❣️ I appreciate the feedback. Happy knitting 🧶
Thank you for all the valuable information the break down really helped me to understand why it is so difficult to find or make clothes that fit. Thank you for your bravery and honesty.
That's very kind of you to say Nicole 💕 I hope it helps you going forward
Thank you so very much for your TED talk! 😂 seriously though, great information and I loved the ‘Junior High teacher’ not messing about attitude! ❤❤❤
Bahaha!!! Thanks so much Karen 🤓 I'm in my don't give a "bleep" era 😎
@@knitsiphappy I’m always in my ‘I don’t give a … era’! 🤣
Thank you for this podcast and also for suggesting Ravelry users to take pictures on. I also wish they would add notes too. I might be overkill but I get thanked all the time for my project notes. I have found others notes very helpful. I think your video was very useful, clear and helpful.
Phew Darlene...thanks for the feedback. It's definitely not my usual sipping and chatting 🤓 And 100% yes to Ravelry notes and photos
Nancy, what a wonderful, thoughtful, clear podcast. I am not one who has a large chest, but I still appreciate all your tips on knitting sweaters. Considering all the conversations on size inclusivity, these ideas and tricks are paramount!! And, I agree that notes on projects on Ravelry are so helpful. Can't wait for your next usual podcast!
Thank you❣️❣️ I'm recording my 2nd podiversary episode this weekend, so you will see me again soon 🤓
And this is why we refer to you as Queen Nancy🥰 thank you so much this was the most empowering video i have watched in a long time…….its not my body it’s the pattern! I will drink to that, thank you my friend x
Ahhhh Kelly...you are too kind 💕 It's definitely not our bodies!!!! Can't wait to give you a big squeeze when we meet in person...soooo excited!!!
Would love a video on sweater math!!!....Loved this video. I also hate not being able to knit everything because it doesn't look good on me. Major bummer. Thanks so much for taking the time to make this video. It was super helpful
It is a bummer, but there's not point spending all the time and money on something that you won't wear 😬 Thanks for the feedback...I'm glad you found this useful 🤓💗
So much fabulous information! Thank you for taking the time to share your knowledge with us. Although i have knit for several years, I am just starting to make garments. Altering them to fit me has been an overwhelming topic to get into. Thank you for helping me understand the process!
I'm so glad to hear Charlotte ☺️ Thank you for taking the time to let me know. Happy Knitting 🧶
This is a master class in fit!! I feel I am getting closer to knowing exactly what modifications I need to make to a pattern to get a perfect fit- these tips will definitely help. Thanks Nancy!
Fantastic Beverly 💖 I'm so happy you found it useful. Happy sweater knitting 🧶
You are the best ever. Not only in socks. Thank your very very much! Your ideas and tips are very useful and clear and can be used for a lot of personal types of size and style.
You are so welcome! I'm really glad you found it helpful and transferable to different types of bodies ❣️
Thankyou Nancy, I really appreciate your expertise and tips ,your tried and true way makes sense ! You are a great teacher and a valuable resource for our knitting community ! I will try to be brave enough to explore these options in the future. You are so kind to share your knowledge 💕
Thank you Chrystal 💕 That's very kind of you to say and I hope you'll find it useful gpimg forward 🤓
Thank you for sharing those wonderful tips! I too am pear shaped! I’ll be incorporating these strategies in future sweater knits to get a much better fit! Thanks again! Happy knitting!
Yes, this was great! Some wonderful, fairly simple ideas for a perfect fit! Thank you!
I'm so glad to hear that Carol❣️ Happy knitting 🧶
Thanks for taking the time to do this Nancy. It was very helpful information for a fellow pear shape!
You are so welcome May 🍐🍐 I hope it is useful for you going forward 😊
I am knitting my first top and stumbled onto your video. Your modification explanations make so much sense and are clearly understandable. Thank you for taking the time to record this for all of us out here with misfitting garments. Now we know why. 👏👍
I've been there and thanks for letting me know that it was useful for you. Happy knitting and I wish you success with your garments 🧶
Thank you Nancy!! I think your tips are very helpful! I appreciate the time you spent doing this podcast!
Your very welcome❣️ I'm glad it will be useful for you 🤓
This video is great help and I will apply these grat tips to my next sweater. Thank you. 😄😄😄
I'm so glad to hear that Lucie ❣️ Thanks for letting me know 🤓
I am very grateful. Since my body has changed drastically, due to a double mastectomies, I am struggling with making a garment that fits my bust, or one that fits my hips. You have given me permission to figure it out for myself and that a pattern is just a guideline.
That was very informative! Thankyou for doing this. It’s one I will listen to a few times so that I can truly absorb everything.
I'm so glad Brit! Thanks for letting me know 🤓
Thank you for this very informative video on sweater modification.
I really appreciate your honesty and insight into adjusting the patterns to fit our different shapes.
I'm glad you found it useful ❣️ I really appreciate the feedback
Happy knitting 🧶
Brilliant Nancy thank you so much for your podcast. I am also a member of the very special pear shape club so thanks for the frank and informative tips and tricks. I shall be moving stitches on my next garment. Thanks again
Yay Linda 🍐🍐 I'm so glad you found it useful and I hope it helps in future knits 🧶
Love this video! Totally agree with everything you talked about! Thank you! I’m starting to learn and getting better. Yes! Pictures on Ravelry are so important, with the knitter wearing their garment!
Thank you Nora❣️❣️ Ravelry is such a great tool for us and I love to see modeled pictures and notes
Great episode. Fit is so important to how we feel in our knits. I stick with top down to better allow me to check the fit.
Thanks to Ashley Lillis I have created excel worksheets to help me get the best fit. I prefer v-neck sweaters so I started with my favorite fitting pattern, the Rock-It Tee. I looked at stitch counts in key measurements, along with my actual stitch guage. Knitting math has helped me to make 4 versions of the pattern that would not be recognized as the saame pattern. I can input my guage with any yarn and calculate the number of stitches I need including the underarm cast on stitches. With that I can take on patterns with texture, or lace or other variations and know that it will fit the way I want it to.
You've got this nailed down Julia 👏👏 You've found your favourite fit and how to get it...perfect
Thanks for the help Nancy! Your instructions are clear and easy to understand. I get what you mean by moving your stitches from the back to the front now! I’m very visual so your diagram helped a lot. I’ll be using that method/technique for the next sweater I knit.
Fantastic Darlene!! Let me know how it works for you 🤓
You make an excellent point about taking pictures. I always look for someone my size but don’t do it in return. You made me think. 🤔 From now on I’ll make sure to take pictures in my garments. Thank you.
We are so lucky to have Ravelry as a resource aren't we?!? I've had quite a few comments about posting pictures, so hopefully we will be able to see more beautiful garments on real bodies 🤓
Thank you Nancy that was very informative for me, ever though I'm a small person it will still help me on doing the math
Thank you for being brave and vulnerable and also a brilliant educator! Like many, I have body issues and do not knit garments for myself. Your knits are fantastic. This video is so helpful 🥰🤩👍👍
I'm glad you found it useful ❣️ I hope you'll try a garment some day. Happy knitting 🧶
I’m new to sweater knitting and this is so helpful. I saved this video so I could easily find it again. Thanks for sharing your knowledge!❤
I am so glad to hear that you found it useful 🧶
This was such a an interesting episode! I'm not someone who has really ever "gotten" how to do this before, so it was helpful. If you ever do an episode on sweater math, I'll be there! 😊
Thank you Bridget 💕 I'm glad it was helpful... I'll let you know about sweater math 😎
Thank you! I do not knit sweaters because I cannot wrap my head around the pattern. I have saved your video to go over when I finally give them another try.
I would recommend trying Tin can knits Flax sweater in a child or baby size to practice the construction of top down and it's really well supported with tutorials. That might help you visualize future patterns 🧶
You delivered as promised. Thank you, Nancy ❤
Phew! I'm so glad. Thanks for letting me know 🩵
Thank you for all the detail. You explain in an easy way to follow.
You are so welcome! I'm glad it was helpful. Happy knitting 🧶
This is fabulous. Incredibly useful after knitting my first top down sweater and realising I need to adjust my knitting to flatter my shape. Thank you!
I'm so glad it's helpful Sally❣️ Happy sweater knitting 🧶
Nancy, thank you for sharing your mod’s info. So helpful for me to learn about knitting my back smaller than the front bodice to stop the front of my sweater riding up. I usually follow patterns as written but now I have confidence to make some mods for my body shape.
I'm so happy to hear that was useful for you 🤓 Happy garment knitting and here's to not being choked by our sweaters!!!
Thank you Nancy. I am knitting away on your Let’s Stay Home socks. I have only knit 1 sweater and luckily it turned out but I don’t wear it because it’s too hot in Southern California. I’ll stick with socks baby blankets and shawls. Also I am left handed and struggle to find help for left hand knitters . I appreciate all your hard work and kindness in sharing your tips and tricks. 😊❤
Happy knitting Laurie 🧶 Thanks for watching even though you have no interest in sweaters LOL
Thank you so much for this! I know you said you would do this video for us.
I hope it makes sense Judy 🤞
Thank you so much for this 💐 48:56 I’m also a pear shape with narrow shoulders, bigger upper arms, slim wrists, a waist, and CB Hips. I have been increasing upper arm size in some sweaters, doing rapid arm decreases, and not decreasing needle size on bottom bands for some time. You’ve given me the confidence to move sleeves back and do a-line shaping. I can’t wait to try it out!
Yay Robbie 🍐🍐 We've got to make these patterns and garments work for us!! You're well on your way and we are doing.lots of the same things. Happy knitting 🧶
Thanks very much Nancy! This was terrific!
I'm so glad you enjoyed it Cathy❣️ I'm very relieved to get such positive comments...this was not my usual sipping and chatting 🤓
Thanks for a great podcast! I think all your suggestions are brilliant. Happy knitting.😊
Thank you Catherine 😊 I'm really glad you found it useful
Thank you for your openness! It is very valuable information. I often modify sweaters because I like a more open neckline and also have a bigger bust. You've given me some great tips I will try in my next garment! Rosie
Thanks Rosie ❣️ I appreciate you taking the time to leave me a comment. Happy sweater knitting 🧶
This is excellent Nancy. Thank so much. I’ve shared your video amongst my knit night ladies.
I really appreciate that!! I'm so glad you thought it was useful 🤓
Great video. I think we all need to adapt patterns and this really hit home for me. I'm also a pear shape so this was especially helpful.
Thanks Jackie 🍐🍐 I'm glad you found it useful and appreciate the feedback 🤓
Your information is so helpful. Your explanation was very clear. A sweater math video would be great. Thank you for making this video. Kim
Thanks for the feedback Kim❣️❣️ I really appreciate it. We'll see on the sweater math 🤓
Thank you! Now I know why even my ready wear garments don't fit correctly. They ride up, they're too big in the shoulder, etc. I'll be taking this valuable information you've given and knitting garments that fit me.
I'm so glad you found it useful Loretta 😊 Thanks for letting me know...i really appreciate the feedback
I just finished a yoked sweater and wearing it today have been pulling the front down. I was thinking to my self about a reallocation of stitches, or adding a few more to the front. I also have a pear shaped body and finding your video today is serendipity! Thank you.
That's just the worst isn't it!! It looks stunning when you look at yourself in the mirror and then you move your arms and it creeps up.
I'm glad you found this useful and it will help with future knits 🍐🍐
Hi Nancy, I think I commented on one of your earlier episodes to say that I'm glad I'm not alone in having to heavily modify patterns! 90% of the popular designers are young and slim and don't necessarily concider the fact that there are pearshaped, (in me case over 60) bodies out there! I basically modify everything in a pattern and only buy it for the design concept. A line increases, more short rows, lengthening the body and sleeves to name a few. I've got a 15cm/6" difference between bust and bum😅 and don't have the courage to dress my 62 year old body in a cropped sweater😅
I remember Adele 🍐🍐 There's lots of us out there and I get knitters asking me about modifications all the time!!! I can do cropped over a cute dress or a longer shirt.
@@knitsiphappy thank you for taking the time to give more knitters the courage to do mods!
Thanks for this. It is great to have this for future reference and will be helpful. The more I learn from you (and Libby) the happier I am with my knitting (most of the time). I have just had one major fail that I don't know how to fix. So I think it's rip it back time and find a similar pattern that will work better.
You're very welcome Sheila❣️ I'm glad you found it useful. Libby's patterns always fit so well around the shoulders and upper body and then I just need to A-line shape after that
What a wonderful video! I am very close to your size, so i will review this next time i knit any garment! This took you a lot of time and energy... we are aware of that and so thankful you have produced this information. You were clear and concise and added graphics to increase understanding.... please dont worry about saying "so"! But, you now realize, you will be asked to provide this kind of content again. 😊 I'll just sign off as Sponge Bob Squarepants!!
Thanks Bob 😆 I really appreciate the feedback and that it was useful for you. Happy knitting Carol 🧶
Loved your instructions for yoke sweaters. Will definitely try it. Thank you.😊
Wonderful!! Let me know how you make out with it Andrea 🧶
I picked up very helpful info even though my shape is different. I’m just starting to venture into sweater knitting and this will help me so much. 🤗
Thanks for letting me know 🤓 Have fun with your sweater journey!!!
Thank you, yes more details on all you covered. Math and everything. I’m a new to sweater knitting. I’m not pear shaped but I do have one arm that’s larger due to surgery. Plus so many sweaters have a bigger neck it just hangs off people. Anyway I need everything.
Yes... the big neck thing is an issue with bigger sizes. I always choose a smaller neck and then adjust from there. I'll see what I can do about more 🤓🤔
Thank you very much. I will listen to this a lit until I figure out the modifications for me.
You're very welcome Elena❣️ I'm glad you found it useful
Oh, yes! Your explanation was very clear and understandable. You’re a natural teacher, Nancy. I have ALWAYS appreciated how your garments fit and I’ve wanted to knit every sweater you’ve made! I want them to look like that on me! So well done. Kudos!
Ahhh...thank you Kim❣️ I'm so glad you found it useful. I so appreciate the feedback 🤓
Very informative & generous video Thanks Nancy !
I'm glad it was helpful Marie❣️ Thanks for letting me know
Thank you, this is very useful. I have also added princess line increases between waist and mid-hip for a cardigan measuring 13.5” from underarm to hem with more in the back to fit better.
I'm so glad you found it useful 🤓 Those increases on the lower body are just the best trick to improve fit!!
Morning Nancy,,🎉🎉
A great chat and tips,,,thank you,,
Hope to make garments someday,,,❤

Thank you so much! I too am a pear( well my top nob is smaller). This video is going to get tons of use.
I'm happy to hear that it was helpful Colette 😊 🍐🍐
❤
Nancy, sending a virtual hug! So much good/helpful information for a fellow pear! Some of the things you mentioned I've stumbled into (due to ill-fitting sweaters) and now feel very confirmed about those mods and how to tweak them. Many new things to consider and refer back to. I was one who asked for more detail about moving the sleeves back on a circular yoke. You nailed it for me! Thank you. I'm still very hesitant about raglan-style garments. The one I tried ended up with armhole depth to my waist! Not good. It's waiting to be frogged and reknit. Additionally, I'm not convinced the diagonal lines created by the increases are the best visually for narrow shoulders / large bust. Do they just visually emphasize the obvious? Jury is still out for me on that one. Thank you again. Cheers to you, my knitting friend!
Hugs back my fellow 🍐🍐
I'm so glad you found it useful. I'm thinking about a raglan summer top soon, so I will make notes on any of the modifications I do.
Happy sweater knitting 🧶🧶
What a fabulous video!! I have been a knitter forever with sometimes a lot of time doing other things ( life mostly). I also knitted sweaters bottom up, two needles, etc, etc. now, of course, it is top down, circular needles! What a blessed way to go. I also have issues, small bust, little or no waist or pretty close to hip measurement. I also do not like deep ever necks. Your advice to measure a liked sweater is right on. I also was unaware of how to use the schematic. Thank you. I would also like to know the pattern of the sweater you are wearing. It’s beautiful. This video has been saved. Thank you ❤❤❤❤❤❤
. Etc.
I'm so glad you found it useful and thanks for the feedback! I link everything below the video, if you're ever looking for something specific. It's Cloudesley by Isabell Kraemer 💕 Happy knitting 🧶
I’m a new to you subscriber. Thank you so much for this video. As you were describing the yoke issue for a larger busted person, I was nodding my head as though you could see me 😂. I might undo the only sweater I have ever knit for myself and re do it! I do not wear it because it isn’t a good fit and you have described the exact reason for it! The wool is beautiful and expensive overall because I am a larger size. I’m feeling so much more “armed” to tackle a modification. Thank you thank you thank you!
Welcome Cheryl!! I hope you'll come back for another more chatty visit 🤓🤓 I'm really glad to hear you found this useful and I wish you sweater success 🧶🧶
Thanks for all the inspiration .
I'm so happy if you found it helpful. Happy knitting 🧶
Thanks for sharing your tips. Very informative and beneficial.
I hope you find them useful❣️ Happy knitting 🧶
Thank you, so very informative. Appreciate your information.
I'm so glad you found it useful Maureen 😊 Happy knitting 🧶
I found this very helpful. Thank you.
I'm so glad to hear Donna ☺️ Thanks for letting me know 🩵
Thanks, Nancy! This was so helpful. I’m not a pear shape and so have different areas I need to adjust, but the most helpful thing was the reminder to use the other sizes within the pattern to help with the adjustments. That’s so much less intimidating than trying to start from scratch, and probably much more accurate since the designer did the calculations! That was my biggest takeaway, but I learned or was reminded of so much more. Thanks again!
Thank you Dee Dee!! Yes....using the existing math to make the garment work for you is the easiest way to go 🤓
Brilliant! Thank you
I'm so glad you liked it and I hope there were some useful bits in there for you 🤓🧶🧶
Thank you Nancy: very helpful information!
I'm so glad Klaske 😊 Thanks for letting me know 🤓
Thank you. Very valuable info.
I'm very glad to hear Mara...thank you ❣️❣️
Great information, thanks so much!😍
I'm glad you found it helpful June❣️ Happy knitting 🧶
Great podcast. Learned so much
That's so lovely to hear...thank you ❣️
Awesome video thank you so much 😊
I'm so glad you enjoyed it...thank you Joan ❣️
Hi, Nancy. Thanks for these tips! The tips on how to widen the sweater for a full bust are invaluable. However, as I like to say, "it's a mountain, not a rainbow." Have you ever tried short rows across the bust to adjust for length? This can also cause the front to be shorter than the back. I've done lots of bust adjustments when I sew garments, but I'm about to knit my first sweater and want to properly adjust for my 50" bust. (I have 40" hips, so a-line is not my friend.) Anyway, thx again!
I've only tried bust darts/short rows once and there were other fit issues with that sweater, so I don't have any feedback or suggestions. A quick search in RUclips will probably have lots of tutorials and instructions. Thanks for spending some time with me 🤓
Thank you!
You're welcome! I hope you find the information useful going forward 🧶🧶
Thank you for this
You're very welcome...I hope it's useful for you 🧶🧶
Hello from Swansea, Illinois.
Hi Janet 👋 Happy knitting 🧶
I wanted to point out to you that the sweater that starts with a z and has a large stripe at the top was very flattering on you. I have been watching a stylist on RUclips and she suggests v-necks to draw the eyes away from my larger parts.
Thank you Melissa!! I'm very partial to a v-neck, that must be why 🤓
Great episode, Nancy! I would love to knit garments for myself, and now I feel more empowered to give it a whirl. Thank you for your honesty and transparency with such a personal subject. Yours is my favorite RUclips channel! ❤🧶
Hi love your style, yes v necks definitely suit you, lovely to hear this again (first time wardrobe toolbox). You put it so well.
Thank you❤
You're welcome! I hope you find it useful 🧶🧶
Such a great instructional video. I find your math easy to follow and so helpful. I am more of a rectangle but I think an A line shape would look good on me. Not sure. You've inspired me to really work on more modifications for my garments. If you have any thoughts on pattern modifications for a rectangle , small bust, no waist, large butt looking at me sideways but can't really see it from the front, lol. I believe the Cosmos truly appreciates body diversity. It's too bad social media doesn't. Thanks so much for your podcast.
Thank you...I'm so glad you found it helpful ❣️ So I would think some waist decreases to nip it in a little and then do some hip increases which will make an hourglass shape. It's worth a try! Put a lifeline in before you start, try it on and see if you like the result...have fun 🧶
@@knitsiphappy OK, I'm sold. I will definitely give it a try. Thanks so much for your reply. I have a pattern I've been wanting to knit in an old Paton's book so am looking forward to experimenting. Happy Knitting!
Great information thanks
I appreciate the feedback Suzanne...thank you 💕
Very important information ❤️
Thank you Barbara 😊 I appreciate the feedback 🧶
Nancy, thank you so much for the details you've provided - very helpful. When you have time, any more info you have on how to adjust the pattern to accommodate a larger circumference (I have big arms) at the armhole would also be appreciated. I struggle with knowing how to adjust the body at the sleeve to accommodate a larger upper sleeve. The info you gave on adjusting the sleeve length, to move to the cuff in a smooth manner, was helpful - I just am not sure what to do on the body. Thanks so much -
I'm glad you found it useful ❣️ So for the sleeve modification, it depends on the type of sweater...raglan, yoke and drop shoulder will all have different ways to get to the stitch count you need. You find that number on your schematic.
Drop shoulder...just pick up more stitches than recommended in the pattern. You will have to do sweater math to figure out the numbers.
Raglan...you can speed up the rate of your raglan increases and do them more often, so you get a bigger sleeve.
Yoke....if you need more than 4-6 stitches (I can pick up that many extras to tighten up the loose edges at the body of the sweater), I would do a lifted increases all of the way around the sleeve circumference when you take them off the waste yarn. If you have 60 stitches and need 72, i would do 8 increases all the way around and pick up 2 extra stitches in each corner where the sleeve meets the body.
Does that give you somewhere to start? Its going to require measurements and sweater math 🤓
@@knitsiphappy That definitely helps. Thanks so much, and keep on sippin' and knittin'!!
I'm a hourglass with a very large bust, 10" bigger than my ribs! Through trial and error i found having no positive ease over the bust gives a good fit doesn't drown me else where. I have just frogged a totally finished cardigan that was to short at the front and as it was stripped i couldn't do short rows .
That's a great tip Heidi...sometimes I use my upper bust measurement to get a good fit on the shoulders which gives me negative ease on my bust. And 🤬🤬 to the cardigan that needs to be frogged.
Great information, very helpful Nancy. Wondering what pattern you were wearing? I'll go to your Rav page and see if I can find it.
Thank you Kim...so glad you found it useful. It's Cloudesley by Isabell Kraemer. I always link everything below the video, if you are looking.fpr something specific 🤓
Thanks for all the good tips. I hope more people will wear their sweaters on Ravelry and please don’t manipulate them so they sit better in the photo. The Sunshine Coast sweater has lovely a-line increases.
I hope you find them useful Hilda❣️ Ravelry is such a great resource isn't it?!?
lol our measurements are similar, but I’m 6 feet tall. I always add torso length and arm length (like 4 inches) as well as a-line shaping. Have you seen the “Reid pullover”? I’m almost done w mine, and there’s a small twisted rib design down the back that’s sweet w the a-line design. A nice (not naughty) v-neck lol
Reid Pullover is now in my Ravelry favourites for the next tIme I need a DK garment. Thank you 🤓 I love that back detail!!! What colour did you knit yours in?
@@knitsiphappy I found clearance Rowan softyak dk, 5 balls cool grey, 6 balls heathered cool pinky grey. Top is grey feathered to pink under the boobs. I’m lovin it!
@TrickyNight24 Sounds lovely 🩶🩷 Yak...scrumptious!!!
Hi Nancy. This was extremely informative and helpful. I appreciate the time you took to do this. I've always made the garment according to the pattern which has resulted in ill fitting garments that I don't wear and end up giving away. I never felt confident enough in making modifications. I do have a question. I love the idea of moving stitches from the back to the front but an issue I find with many garments is having too much fabric around the front/underarm area. (not sure if that makes sense?). I'm not sure if that has to do with the number I cast on for the underarms or choosing a smaller neckline (which I will also start doing as I prefer a closer fitting neckline). Thank you again.
