- Join us as we focus on remodelling our 1970s Viscount caravan.
In this video we start to lay out all of the equipment that is to go inside the van and make sure we can actually fit it all in! It's not a very large van so we have to get a bit creative with space to make everything work. We want to make sure we can fit in a toilet and shower, kitchen, dining area and permanently made up beds. There's not a cm to spare!
There's still lots to do to get the caravan usable again.
This will be the subject of a complete modern makeover, as we renovate and modernise the entire interior essentially creating a new build.

my my you certainly have a good crowd to watch your renovation
Loving the series! Just started our reno and finding so many things we didnt think of before watching yours
It can end up being a very deep rabbit hole 😅 good luck!
Love your videos!!! Make me laugh 😂 enjoy your interaction too!! ❤
Fun times! 😆
You live in Tasmania… not sure it’s “IF” we have a diesel heater… especially with single beds too 😉 good layout though guys, you’ve got through to this point nice and quick!! Now the really fun stuff begins 👍🏼
Doesn’t feel very quick!😅
Yes a diesel heater is more of a matter of ‘when’ not ‘if’ 😆
Oh and drawers rather than cupboards is a great idea btw!
Yes provided they don’t add too much weight. 😬
Love the plan. You could sleep with your feet towards the back of the van. Might be more comfortable. Also, not clear on where the fridge is going.
Yes we debated that idea. Still an option however we are putting the overhead lights/usb plugs down the far end.
Fridge under bench adjacent to shower. Pretty much where I’m sitting during the end chat about the dead corner.
Congratulations to you both , love your work and your plans, you both cracked me up with those golf clubs so funny , I thought Joh was going to wear them as he walked passed the door 😂😂😂 take care cheers Darrel
Thanks Darrel, appreciate the comment!
I bought an old jayco pop top, gutted it and now its way better than the crappy design it had.i researched ideas, then i got it started. Its got polished wood floors, aluminium framed bed and chair, italian stainless steel sink, flick mixer tap,inverter,etc....not sure how much it has cost me but im happy with it
Love the idea of personalising it, thanks for sharing.
Loving your plan, what some van makers do is make one of the single beds a little smaller length wise for the supposedly shorter person 😊 that might give you a bit of leeway on one side.
Like your cooker idea, we have a small portable gas stove plus a portable Induction hot plate , that way we can use both outside and use the induction inside (we have a gas cooktop in the van we done t use and mainly stay in caravan parks)
Unfortunately we’re both the same height! 😆
Lovin these van reno vids that you two are doing! Phill
Thanks Phil!
Hey you two
I had a caravan repair business and fixed many of the viscounts made in the 60 s and 70 s
They used to have chipboard window sills top and bottoms
Which used to get wet and soft
The other problem I used to find the chassis rusted along the bottom where the walls sit in the chassis
I just watched 2 of your shows and can’t wait to see what you come up with
Well done
Cheers

Thanks Reiner, appreciate the comment! The only chipboard we found was around the old hatches in the roof, but that’s long gone!
I've got chipboard sills in my stripped old Viscount Royal. What would you suggest for replacement? Thanks.
I love Fee - she's got a great attitude. Always laughing and smiling. I assume you're going to put cupboards or something under the beds? What I would suggest if possible is make a pull out system to fill in between the beds. That's one thing we didn't do in our van and it makes setting the bed up SUPER awkward. We use the table which is usually on a lagoon style swivel leg. The table just fits in nicely, but it means you have to store it somewhere and getting it in place is annoying as you have to move the cushions and stuff. If we could have something that would pull out and then put the foam down for infill it would make getting the bed ready at night so much easier. If you're just planning on a foam mattress on top of wood, don't forget to make some holes to let the mattresses breathe. You don't want any mold growing underneath.
Good ideas. We were thinking of slats under the foam, and have slats slide out to fill in the centre section. Don’t want to use our table as the infill piece as we want to have the bed set up most of the time. We were just thinking of a simple folding table we can also use outside. Not sure where to store it during transit yet.
And I agree, Fee is great! Couldn’t do this project without her!!
Great work guys!
Thanks!
when i had my caravan, it came with an outdoor table , which was stowed into its own custom designed slot against a tall cupboard at the entry. Also had an indoor table, which became the center of the double bed, should you want one. It was a good setup, and sometimes I wish I hadnt sold it.
Sounds like a good idea, will have to give it some thought!
Great Video Guys. Single beds are a great space saver in small to medium-sized vans. Love the Updates. What happened to the Purple Boot's.
The boots were getting a rest until the next construction day!
