For the most part, I love the tasteful choices here. I only wish they didn't add the colors to the part where he's falling through the void headless. The black and white was SO EFFECTIVE at creating a profound emotion there.
I don't like the regeneration sequence as it his modern who, compared to the"glow"effect used last time. Also, the doctor's of the future being show was stupid. Give me the black & white original if that's what's in this dvd.😅

I liked the way 2nd ended the Black and White era and the third started the color era. It was very cool to see that progression from the original to (at the time) modern.

These updated edits of Doctor Who classics can get too overwhelming at times. Still it's always interesting to see what they can do. Particularly with regeneration sequences.
Patrick thourton who played this 2nd doctor, it was his idea to play the doctor for 3 years and he told others especially the actor who was 5th doctor and now many will play up to 3 years to give the show a fresh look and change and approach 😅😮😢😂😊
Well yeah he feared he will be typed cast in such role. But 3 season rule was enforced on itself by the bcc. Yeah Davison left on his 3 season but Colin vaker was fired after his 3rd(even tho it's second) the show stopped after McCoy's third season. Then in modern who David, matt Capaldi, and Whitaker were forced to do three seasons. Now gatwa is also started shooting his third season after the completion of the second season
The doctor was playing for time and trying to delay the inevitable and time lords knew that. So forced his hand in respect of starting his regeneration.
SO stupid, replacing the old faces with new Doctors, much less with their sonic screwdrivers. I mean, this is pretty good, updated stuff here, but it STILL needs the fans to come in and edit it back! Sort of like how Star Wars fans made superior, "de-specialization" versions of the movies.
Years ago I was at a convention where someone presented a gag video where they did the same thing (replace the potential regenerations with later Doctors). It worked for a joke but does take me out here. Then again, I don't think the BBC considers these new versions replacements. Just alternative modernizations to (hopefully) draw younger viewers to the old show.
Yes, there's an important layer of tension removed I think. It becomes too bubbly. I feel the same about adding so much color to the headless void bit as well.
The colourisation still isnt as good as Mind of Evil. The constant musical soundtrack is very intrusive. The editing is heavy handed. A great story reduced to a passable trailer for the 10 part version. The ending is great though. Love rhe 1970/1980 reading.
I'm good on the color...the updated effects are definitely a nice touch...the story definitely should have stayed as it was originally but ill still give it an 9.5❤❤
The overuse of music is just awful and takes away the minimalism of the original atmospheric sound effects that heightens the established tensions of the Doctor’s fate during his trial. Less is more considering that the radiophonic orchestra knew how to balance out when sound and silence is necessary.
I don't mind the sound track however it does feel a bit too loud and over powering in some places which can make the dialouge a struggle to hear at times
The High Council passed a law against interference after the Minyos affair, because they were worried about younger races acquiring Time Lord technology and misusing it. Also most renegades used their superior education to exploit and dominate younger races. The Doctor was probably a special case because he just wanted to travel and explore, and occasionally assist to make the Universe more civilised. Strictly speaking he deserved the death sentence for unauthorised use of a TARDIS. Also fascinating how Susan got off scot free. The Tribunal couldn't have cared less about her, even about her welfare. It's likely that the Time Lords retrieved her from Earth after accessing the TARDIS flight logs (explaining why the Doctor believed she was dead after the Time War).
I get why they would want to replace the original drawings the Time Lords show The Doctor, but not sure using NuWho Doctors was the right choice... kinda cool, just not sure if it makes sense.
It is. They never filmed a regeneration sequence in the original War Games because they hadn't hired a new Doctor yet. Also, they weren't sure the show would be back the following season. So, if it wasn't renewed (or whatever the Brits call it), they would have an ending with the Doctor falling into the abyss of time.

That’s because even though Matt Smith wasn’t familiar with the show when he was cast at 26 years old he watched the first 4 series/seasons of New Who and then watched a handful of Classic Who and became a huge fan of Patrick Troughton and the 2nd Doctor so that’s why 2 and 11 are so similar

Colourising the episodes is one thing but meddling and vandalising history adding in unwanted music is quite another. I did not want to see the change from Troughton to Pertwee it was left better ambiguous.

Technically, both. The Confession Dial made the regeneration scene. The BBC hired them for this special and used the edit they made, but updated.
