The Master was never conceived until the Pertwee Era, because the writers then had a Sherlock Holmes fixation. The Doctor was Holmes, The Brigadier was Watson, and they created The Master then and there to be The Doctor's Moriarty. Next you're going to be saying The Rani is a Future version of Romana or Maxil was the 6th Doctor All along, or that John Frobisher was the 12th Doctor under the influence of a fob watch.

Music and editing are awful

This really felt like a fan edit rather than the creation of an acclaimed television company.

I had sworn off of Dr Who after Billie Piper left as Rose Tyler. The emotional trauma was too much for me to revisit this world. That was until Neil Patrick Harris, An American guy, playing a British supervillain doing a fake German accent made me speedrun the remaining stages of grief. Honestly this special was way more fun and tense than I anticipated.

I don't believe the War Chief is the Master as he's not the calculating supervillain the latter is but more of an overambitious chancer whose rapidly out of his depth. However, it's an amusing irony that the Master's theme kicks in as he proclaims he's "not the cold-hearted villain you suppose me to be."

Get Frazer Hines and his 2 writing partners to novelise the War Games as he did Evil.

I hate the music. Get rid of it.

I remember Pertwee's first appearance very fondly ,but have Never seen the original War Games ..this retconned version is brilliant..

the dialog in this and Terror of the Autons reveal this is NOT the Master. The second Doctor here has NEVER met the War Chief. Done. Case closed. Poor junk, pure junk cutting a classic wonderful epic and reducing it to a mess.

The War Chief is NOT the Master

I slogged through the origin only a few years back but I adored the War Chief. I watched the recent colourised one being unsure of it going into it, as the BBC did the same with The Daleks (which for the first half was good, then it felt like a terribly rushed job for the second half, shamefully so) ... So I wasn't optimistic... but I actually loved this one, felt really good as an hour & a half, along with the added cgi effects, brilliant from the BBC boys, completely far superior to the heavily rushed Daleks one released only a few months back... Shout out to the War Chief fans too, what a legend he was... 👍🏻👌🏻😅⚔️

sorry the toymaker was a villain and a lousy goofy/one note write off villain from the original series, the fact they try as hard as they can to make him out to be some sort of elder god beyond even timelord/god comprehension is just a pathetic excuse of writing and only shows the current writing staff have not a creative bone in their body.

I wish they just colorized the episode and not recut and re-edit it

Honestly, giving the War Chief the Master theme was a really bad decision in my opinion, I like the idea that he is his own character not an early unofficial version of the Master.

This is how you play pure evil properly. Understated. No mustache twirling, no shouting except at extreme moments. Philip Madoc was phenomenal in this story.

57 years since he was last on screen. But Fun Fact: This was going to be his third appearance. Originally, the Toymaker was meant to return during the Sixth Doctors run, but the serial was unproduced.

I watched this not that long ago and I think it’s great. It could’ve been a good 10-15 minutes longer as we don’t really get time to breathe, but it still works. I’ve seen people straight up hate it for small reasons, some people in complete denial. Let’s remind everyone that this is not the definitive version of the story, it’s a colorized remaster that creates a direct link between the War games and Spearhead from space

This retcon has totally ruined the War Chief. He's never been the same character as the more maniacal Master, so why now? Leave it alone
