I have a very small card case in my pocket with my hand on it, I've seen too many purse thieves and I tell women you really shouldn't leave your purse open somebody can snag that so fast and they say oh I can run fast and catch them hahaha no you can't when you didn't see who did it
I keep my hand on my purse and zippers zipped, but also put the kids seat belt around the strap and lock it. I realize this is easier to do if you don’t have a child with you. Did get my purse stolen once while I was loading groceries in the car. I had undone the seatbelt to pay. Now my purse goes in the car FIRST.
I've seen women at Wal-Mart walk down the aisles with their purses wide open, they need to pay attention while they're shopping, or in any public situation, thieves look for people not paying attention.

I sell electronics and lots of times selling them their products to replace what was just “stolen” from them! I’m usually telling them that they helped the thief when they’re either not paying attention or just flat out walked away from their belongings. I don’t know how many items I’ve returned to people, because I saw it unattended and I take it to our manager’s office! The exhale they release, tells me I helped them think more than they used to 👍🏽👍🏽
I stopped carrying a purse years ago. I now wear men's pants because the pockets are deep enough to carry what I need, and they actually fit better. Oh, and I replaced carrying a purse wit carrying a S&W .38.

Years ago I was in K Mart in line at the register. The lady behind me started making a big commotion. Nobody wanted to look at her because she was acting crazy. I turned quickly and found her hand in my shoulder bag. She didn’t get my wallet but she would have if I hadn’t turned around so fast. When she got caught she turned and ran out the door.
This happened to a friend of mine. Her pocketbook was hanging on the back of her chair in a hotel bar. A bunch of papers dropped, and when we helped pick them up, the pick pocket grabbed her wallet out of her closed pocketbook. She didn't realize it until she started getting pings from the credit card company. She reported it to hotel security, and when they went back to look at the security video, they saw what happened. Ever since then, I keep my pocket book in front of me when I am in public places.
Best thing I've learned like the video basically said....Don't Be An Easy Target! For purse in the shopping cart (after I took out my shopping list), I open then baby seat put my purse UNDER it and stack groceries in front of it. 😁
When I am shopping I make sure my purse is closed and use the child strap to strap my purse to the cart. In a restaurant I put my purse in between my feet squeezing it with my feet or in a booth I put it on the inside of the booth not near the aisle where people walk.
I learned a trick in New Orleans years ago ... Men put your wallet in your front pocket... At first I only did this in big crowds but after awhile I started keeping my wallet in my front pocket no matter what and I have never lost or had my wallet stolen... A pick pocket would probably be upset about wasting his time if he did get my wallet all he would find is a maxed out Lowes card and $40 on a good day

The moment I feel a presence, my hand goes into my pocket over my wallet and cell phone. I could become a target, but I'm always protective of my space & I use a cane to walk, but is actually a weapon with which I routinely train to kill. I just wish someone would try to steal my wallet, as life is just too short to not shorten the life of those who would pick my pockets.
In some places they cut the bags to get to the valuables. I use a, well we call them ‘bumbag’, for my valuables and put things I’m not worried about in my bag.
My nana taught me never to never leave my purse/handbag in the shopping cart. The only handbag I own is similar to the brown one the woman showed but mine has a flap in the front similar to a messenger bag.

In Europe they have a school called, the school of 7 bells !! They teach you how to be a expert pick pocket!! I'm a foreign teacher here in Thailand and my students always surrender everything they see that aren't belong to them including money and phones. Also, I used to leave my bag anywhere and nothing went missing. I have also tried leaving my motorbike for 5 days in a public place and nothing bad happened when I came back. But of course I know, stealing still happens here but it's not that too rampant and you could still trust anyone.
In the Philippines, people who commute wear their backpacks in front of them 😂 And I'm one of them. When you live paycheck by paycheck, you need to take care of your valuables and not care of how you look.

The current (May 2020) social distancing may slow down this kind of thievery. In some places such thieves would traditionally lose a hand when caught.

Also, I used to leave my bag anywhere and nothing went missing. I have also tried leaving my motorbike for 5 days in a public place and nothing bad happened when I came back. But of course I know, stealing still happens here but it's not that too rampant and you could still trust anyone.
In the Philippines, people who commute wear their backpacks in front of them 😂 And I'm one of them. When you live paycheck by paycheck, you need to take care of your valuables and not care of how you look.
I always put my bag on my knees. Doesn't matter if it is a fancy restaurant or a casual cafeteria. I never hang it on the chair!

Having a zipped up purse helps as well. Being a guy I always keep my wallet in my front pocket and am always aware of my surroundings.
