toasty mcgeee Yeah the one I saw was a 2015 Beetle Turbo which in the UK means it has the 2.0 from the Golf GTI with 220ps and it sounded like it had DSG with the farts between gears and I believe they do 0-60 in something like 6.5 seconds then again it was a good thing for me because I ended up gettin my car remapped and love it loads more!

I don't know, I kinda like the Hitler wheels, but only on the classic ones. Hubcaps don't belong on a 2014 car.
+titleguy1 They fit well with the stock model, But it doesn't fit with the turbo.
Because it shares pretty much all the unseen parts (like platform, engine, transmission, drivetrain amd so on) with other vw cars (such as the golf) it can be deeply tuned. A guy here in Brazil out his hands in one of those and took 390bhp out of it, remapped the DSG system and now the looses traction under hard acceleration in 4th gear 😁😁😁😁

I have a 2015 Beetle Turbo, and it actually is the Classic Edition with plaid cloth and leather upholstery, color-coded interior trim, and with those "Hitler" rims; I like them a lot actually on my car despite what he says in the video. Anyways, I live in North Louisiana so every guy I went to high school with drove big jacked up pickup trucks with glasspacks on them, annoying asf; I would easily pull away from them at stoplights and I have done nothing to this car, makes the same power as it did from the factory. I probably destroyed quite a few egos back then.

3 years after the release of this video and I´m about to get my license....and this will be my first car. Well, not the turbo one because I simply cant afford that much horsepower but 105hp are still great for my every day life! :D
AND tbh honest the new beetles are one of the most beautiful cars for the average man/woman imo.

Thank you for doing a video over this. I have a 2003 1.8 turbo Turbo S New Beetle with Unitronic Stage 2, and they advertise 235hp and 275 ft-lb tq. It shares Audi TT Mk1, and Jetta/Golf parts, so upgrades are quite plentiful. I get a TON of crap for driving it, but I love it and I continue to modify it and impress people with it. I'm trying to work in canards, splitters, Liberty Walk/Rocket Bunny flares and really make it an aggressive car. Thank you for another great review!

I just bought a 2014 Volkswagen Beetle 1.8 and I absolutely love this car.
They should make an AWD version. That would definitely have my interest.
I don't know if you feel the same David but I recently was able to drive a couple cars my friend owns and it is such an odd but special feeling driving someone elses pride and joy.

My wife has a '12 turbo beetle. Its a hoot to drive. I personally hate the seats, but that may be due to my previous back issues. This makes me want to give her some suspension upgrades and an exhaust!
As always, great video David. I really like that you review all types of cars, including those that are little bit different than the mainstream. Looks like a pretty fun little car, and practical too, for those who need daily transportation.

My mom use to drive a bright yellow New Beetle, there are two turbo New Beetles at my career center with tons of cosmetic upgrades, I got passed by a New Beetle, I feel inspired to get one as a project.

Usually you can turn off Traction Control by pulling the ABS fuse, as traction control usually uses the abs sensors. Don't know if VW works the same way though.
You're correct. I just don't want to lose the abs. My brakes are very touchy hahaha

I like how the top of the door panel is white. It makes it look like you are sitting deeper in the car.
Dont get me wrong, black leather is nice, but if you buy a GTI you gotta get the plaid interlagos seats. The Buggs interior is sexy.
I got the same Body Kit on my Beetle only mine is Black instead of blue to add a sporty tone to the Platinum Gray Metallic color. According to my VW Dealer Parts Guy. I’m the only on in my State sporting the kit.
I'll never be a modern Bug guy, but they have done a lot to improve them in recent years. I agree about the headlights, if they made them a little more aggressive, black housings maybe more squinty, it'd really improve the looks.
The reduced wind noise is due to the beautiful minds of vw engineers. They managed to end up with a .29 drag coefficient in the new beetle. Same as the Porche 918.
I have a 2013 beetle turbo with the 2.0 and it is a BLAST to drive but I've noticed it does have a bit of torque steer. My weekend car is a 92 Infiniti M30 which pales in comparison on corners.
It's the APR tune. They are very safe watered down tunes with power bands that are similar to N/A cars. Revo or Giac make much better powerbands. APR is kind of for people who only want bumps in power without changing the driving experience as much as possible

Actually way nicer looking than the last one's , but even if someone gave me it . I would hack it up starting with putting the engine and drive wheels in the back where they belong .

Have a stage 2 2014 with the regular auto and an apr down pipe. Absolute riot. Surprises the absolute piss out of ppl. Great on gas still too.

Same engine/APR configuration I had on my TT Roadster. Was fun. 261hp coming from my VW Fender Edition Beetle’s 2.0L Turbo 6M is MORE fun!
Yea dude. I have one and I get INFURIATED at not being able to turn off the traction control. Luckily, you can purchase a kit that will allow you to and install it yourself but c'mon.. shouldn't have to do that. Other than that, I love my Fender edition Beetle GTI.
There is a mod you can do to add the option to disengage the Traction Control. If I recall its all there in the system. There just isn't a button for it.
they also make a VW Bettle R with the 2.0 turbo. its a special order only car.
Sucks that this is the 1.8T because VW offered the 2.0T in the Beetle up until 2019 when it was discontinued. That’s the engine I would be sure to get, or maybe the TDI. I miss my 2002 Beetle Turbo S.

I have a 2012 beetle turbo but with the 2.0tsi (ko3) same as mk6 gti. A cai and you hear the turbo.. it's 200hp 207 stock.. stage 1+ I'm at 257/304 tq.. don't get the 1.8t ..much slower
Beetles are awesome especially the new ones. The previous generation isn't as good but they are still cool cars. I love whooping people's ass at red lights in my beetle. They never expect it lol.
... There's a fuse for traction control... Just thought id throw that out there....

VW made it so that you can turn off traction control on the Mark 6 golf R as well. There was a work around half-way through the generation (12+ Golf R's I believe) where you could modify the ECU and turn it off.

I've never heard of height being a reason an insurance company wouldn't cover you..I'm 6'2 myself and 33 and have never heard this in my life..you need a new company

Why don't you get the 1.2 its basically the same and your insurance will allow it my dad is 6,2 and he drives one it's the best thing he has ever bought and he got it 3 years ago

yeah the early bugs were scary my grandma told me a story about her accident when she was in one a tractor trailer ran it over and her teeth got stuck in the steering wheel and she had to have brain surgery, and was is a full body cast all back in the 60's...talk about safety lol👌

Before this new gen Beetle came out my dad said the only way he'd buy me another car was if it was a Beetle. Hell no. But I guarantee if he said that when this new gen came out I'd have said yes in a heartbeat!!! I drive a '14 Mustang 5.0 now though so I'm good. lol

So the newest version of the Volkswagen Beetle comes in a lot of dirt trims with various engines and horsepower configurations.
In America, we only had the 1.8L and the 2.0L and the 2.5L and then later on, I switched out the 200hp 2.0L engine with a 175hp 2.0L engine.

Love this review my dad owns a 2012 1.2 litre beetle and I own a 73 but since you have done the new one what about trying to do a modified classic beetle that would be super cool love the vids and keep at smurfx it'll rip might do that myself soon actually
This car deserves RWD or RWD based proper AWD, 6 speed manual, Golf R motor or Audi 5 cylinder engine. Despite the 2nd gen (1st gen new beetle), older or this model Beetle never look feminine or anything with the stupid description. While it looks great in stock for, with few exterior mods, this car can look as good as all 911's. This will be a classic worth proper money, within next 10 to 30 years.
They need to release a 2.0t beetle. A beetle with Mk7 Gti drivetrain 😳💕

Older "New"Beetle is a turtle and looks like it. The current Beetle actually looks like a beetle. The shape bears a lot of resemblance to the 1302/3 Super Beetles. A good change, a very good change.

So David my wife and I both have the Beetle Turbo which are 2.0TSI motors, but the engine bay looks identical to this one that you showed of the 1.8T. How can one tell the difference by looking at the engine. I searched up our VIN and they show up at the 2.0 Turbo trims

Very cool video. Looked like you were having a lot of fun and I like that aspect of driving. And like you said... not a lot of people modding Beetles so it gets to turn a lot of heads in a fun way.
In my experience the VW beetle turbo is one of the best handling fwd cars out there.
