Thank you for the review! I drove & owned the 2005 C6 Corvette & 2014 Chevy SS then I bought my wife 2013 VW Beetle Turbo! OMG, this little guy can launch faster from a standstill than my 2014 Chevy SS that has 425 horse power! I got rid of the SS & I am planning to buy an R line!
We got my wife the 2015 R-line Beetle convertible and I have a 2014 GTI Wolfsburg Edition, and I can say this.. that Beetle is just as fun to drive as the GTI!! The main difference for me.. the Beetle is a 6-speed manual and the GTI is Tiptronic auto with paddle shifters. So it is 2 different driving experiences..
How could you not like the sound of the 5cyl? I'd take that engine note over the 4cyl any day. I almost like it more than my VR6. VW 4cyl's do sound good but it definitely doesn't beat the sound of that 5cyl. It's still silly that they piped the 5cyl sound into the cabin of a 2.0 4cyl though.
84 gti ❤❤❤❤❤ Had a 68 conv 69 Baja (white bros bb engine 119 dwell cam dual delortos race trans case 1 pc front end cut and turned alum slab dash KC ‘Hilights” roll cage custom platform rear interior and the most badass custom black naga diamond tuck interior money can buy (including headliner 😂😂). It did wheel stands 😂😂😂😂
Oh also had a 81 breadbox a couple of Westys and a mex super beetle that was indestructible. At present, I’m hoarding my daughter’s 14 R line Fender edition cabriolet. NO AWD 😢. Take my money for a lighter 3 cyl AWD (think GR). Next iteration Beetle will be an electric eccentric beast.
I had a '74 Beetle when I was in high school [old even in the '90s]. I like these newer Beetles quite a bit--look especially cool with the 19" wheels. I test drove one and enjoyed the engine and handling and loved the Fender sound. So much more character overall than Golf and Jetta BUT a few things bother me about the Beetle. Extra gauge cluster on dash of 2.0 Turbo models seems silly and compromises your view. Beetle Turbo doesn't have config where you can get auto climate with 6MT. [I've had auto climate for 11+ years.] Lack of power seats.
all three of your quibbles with this beetle were deal breakers for me so I'm glad I watched this. I hate when manufacturers think they know what's right for their consumers who are purchasing these. Let the consumers decide.
I am not in the car market but maybe in a couple of years. I want a car with character, that's why I am looking at the beetle or mini hardtop. That Nissan is probably fast but does not have the character I am looking for.
Kimberly Norton I do believe there were some transmission issues with the older "new beetle". We've only had ours for a year but have had zero issues thus far.
+tremorelano The host was referring to the last generation New Beetle in context to its image with regard to teenage girls and sprinkles, not the Beetle in large. And in the context of the entire lineage of Beetles it has been nearly 8 decades as the Beetle began production in 1938, not 5.
Real beatles ARE rear wheel drive this thing is just a vw re modelled golf same underneath different lid ...it doesn't pay for vw to make a separate chasis ...business as usual ...
I had a 2002 new beetle sport 1.8T 5 speed manual modified with APR stage two tune and full exhaust and air intake on it and all though it would win in a drag race I don't think it would win by much do to the simple fact that the 2012 just lays down what power it has beater then the old new beetle did. I also and auto cross which I do a lot. The 2012 beetle turbo just out classes the new beetle in every way other then you can not turn off the TCS in 2012 beetle like you could in the new beetle. I now own a 2013 turbo beetle my self I rather have the looks of the 2012 beetle over new beetle although I do miss my 2002 new beetle. p.s don't get me wrong I loved my 2002 new beetle I wish I still had it with the 2013 beetle so I could fined out witch one is quicker in a strait line but I do know the 2013 is quicker in the auto cross.
I have a 2001 new beetle 1.8t k03s turbo ,running 25 psi .engine is stock . forced cold air intake ,custom venting in lower front bumper ,tri tube intake.3 inch exhaust giac x plus software and many other mods , 235 hp. The car is quick and has a better power to weight ratio , ,But I get it with the better tech of the new car ....I would have loved to see a mid engine beetle with all wheel drive...and about 300 hp .
I agree! All real VW models should still be rear-wheel drive. VW is dead and they refuse to listen to the true customers who purchased those great models in the past. They base their survey from possible future customers who never owned a VW, but would consider switching if VW's had the same features a Honda or Toyota has. VW will go out of business before the day we see them with a full line-up of rear wheel drive models.
***** Do you realize that VW is close to being the number 1 manufacturer in the world? GM & Toyota trade it back and forth right now but VW is very close behind.
I don't think it's okay to transition from a teenage girl driving that car to get yogurt with sprinkles to a grown man driving that car to go get fit in the gym.
my first car is this one im 24.. picking it up from my Dad tomorrow! It's red!

I drove one when it came out and now a couple of years later I got one. Best car for the $ or maybe most fun!
The interior is impressive. Looks like a high end luxo car interior.
It looks great, more like a Porsche than some Porsche's.

Omg I love my 2014 volkswagen beetle
Very good review of the R-Line

Um no. The consumer is too stupid to decide.
@@bigmacdaddy1234 Not This consumer.
@@CeeStyleDj Then that leaves everybody else. Lucky you.
@@bigmacdaddy1234 Come on man..... Lol
5 cylinders are awesome! Volvo 850! Volvo s40 btcc! Audi Quattro! Come on, man!
🤠🌵🏜️I like the body style!

Kimberly, look at the Beetle Convertible. We have a 2013 one and love it!
The last person I spoke with had a bettle with all sirts of problems. Thanks fir the advice though.

0:19 "beetle has been known for a past decade or so.." really?? ..my dad even had a '71..officially, it's been FIVE decades!! =)

Way to take a sentence out of context. He was referring to the "New Beetle"
The r-line shouldn't by fuel economy biased.
does it have 4motion?
Too bad the reviewer did not compare it to the Mini Cooper.
NO TRACTION CONTROL SHUT OFF ? MIGHT AS WELL DRIVE IT INTO A WALL.
Awesome...thanx! =)
Is it even good to have a black car in Arizona? I’d want tented windows
My first car was a 67 bug that I got in 76. 1976 not 1776😂
i drive a dark blue 2001 turbo beetle
Real beatles ARE rear wheel drive this thing is just a vw re modelled golf same underneath different lid ...it doesn't pay for vw to make a separate chasis ...business as usual ...
Maybe beatles are, but I don't know if that's true about Beetles...
just 210 HP?
Most people agree that VW probably underates thier engines.
I had a 1967 but and it had a 1200. At 35 hp
yeeeehaaa!!!!
UGLY ASS CAR AND I'M A NEW BEETLE OWNER THAT COULD EASILY KICK ASS ON THIS "R"

Real Beetles are rear wheel drived......

Is it possible to disable that auto-throttle bullshit?
I don't think it's okay to transition from a teenage girl driving that car to get yogurt with sprinkles to a grown man driving that car to go get fit in the gym.
VW can never erase the teenage girl picture from the name of the beetle. the only manly car they have is really the GTI
Its still not built 4 men.
