    Later in this scene, Peter uses the phrase "the woman I love," which is Tommy's berserk button.

    The lighting in this scene is very interesting, and I think it’s far more complex than it looks. Notice that when Peter sits, there is a line of light that sort of cuts him in half. If you look at the windows when he enters the room, there doesn’t seem to be any natural way that this could happen. It’s deliberate-he’s being sliced in half by the powers across the table. My guess is that this lighting design was hidden by camerawork and postproduction. Subtle, but powerful. The lighting is part of the storytelling. Top notch.

      Oh bunk - look at the scene just before he sits down - the light demarcations in the room are there for all to see. It's not smoke and mirrors.

    Rewatching this episode, I love the subtle way in which Tommy gets the Queen to agree with him. His “distraction” in the beginning of the tour to signal his concerns, his offer to take the blame while not pushing the matter after the queen says to wait 24 hours, and finally on the plane when he picks the perfect opportunity to ask her once again for a decision. It’s masterful manipulation and downright amazing to watch!

    I'll never understand why the RF and the firm denied Peter, a war hero with good ranking and a trusted figure with one fatal flaw, but chose to allow Tony, a commoner who was immoral and had multiple affairs with both genders, into marrying Margaret.

    What Townsend did was so despicable they weren't going to let him win. He betrayed the King's trust with his daughter, a teen ager while he was in his 30's and married. Ever wonder how the King would have felt if he knew when alive? Townsend ruined Margaret's life.

    • @luuko656
      @luuko656 2 года назад +17

      Thats incorrect, The King highly appreciated and loved Townsend, Also Townsend was a decorated war hero and a confidant of the Royal Family. Aside from the fact he was divorced, he would have been a perfect match.

    He had to know how it was going to end. And when you're sitting in front of that man right there you might as well be sitting in front of Her Majesty herself because that's who he works for and that's who he speaks for.
    He wants a woman go to London or go to Paris and find himself a showgirl.

      In reality he was a married man in his thirties carrying on an affair with someone sixteen years his junior who he met as a teenager and who -- had he managed to marry her -- would have made him a millionaire. When that finally came to nothing, at 44, he started an affair with a 19-year-old Belgian teenager who he married the following year. Most of the men depicted in the Crown were in reality weak, corrupt and venal; constantly in search of pocket money from patrons and connections to fund unearned luxury. Peter Townsend was no exception.
