- The British Empire is in decline, the political world is in disarray, and a young woman takes the throne…a new era is dawning. Queen Elizabeth II is a 25-year-old newlywed faced with the daunting prospect of leading the world’s most famous monarchy while forging a relationship with legendary Prime Minister Sir Winston Churchill. The Crown explores the Queen’s private journey behind the public façade with daring frankness.
And that's how you throw shade and pull rank at the same time. "Your queen-not a showgirl"
Do you think she was essentially calling Margaret a showgirl?
@@Sisyphus27 I think so. Margaret, like many entitled Leos, felt the need to always have the spotlight.
@@MauriceRivers415 but I think it be noted that not all Leo's are like that! I myself am one and I quite frankly mostly hate the spotlight! Zodiac signs don't mean everything and people don't always carry the personality destined for them by their time of birth! Princess Margaret Rose was born right on the cusp of Leo and Virgo!
@@MauriceRivers415 we totally do
@@Sisyphus27 IRL she said, 'I'm not a showgirl' several times. it was important to her that she was authentic and not put on a performance.
"Yes. And it's the flat end, remember".
roddo that’s what she said
Sorry , Not Sorry. .....
Margret never understood what was really needed to be the sovereign. Not putting up a show and being glamorous, but being diciplined, modest and someone people can relay on doing their job. Someone who can put personal things to the side
But are we sure it was the way to do it ? Sure it's what the system demanded, but so many characters (Margaret, Philip, Diana, Charles) challenge the system and usually are proven right when they try to modernize it. Would it be so bad if the sovereign showed an ounce of humanity ? I feel like even the show keeps asking that question
@@shanouboubouThe Crown has already answered that question at the end of this episode. The Monarchy should shine, not the Monarch. The institution is supposed to embody duty, stability, and longevity. None of those qualities are found in “showgirls,” who constantly clamor for the spotlight and outshine everyone and everything around them, albeit fleetingly.
@@wyzemann Institution ISN'T dutiful and stable, though. All of the pretty and heavy words they toss around is just a flimsy excuse for all the wealth and privilege they have. If this was medieval fantasy I'd maybe accept the Queen's reasoning, but honestly, as it is, she's full of shit.
@@wyzemann I think you are right, i lie in Sweden and our monarch and the royal family almost never make a scene but are doing their jobs, and can be very elegant and glamours but also very timid and make no waves what so ever, i mean our king drives himself and the queen to work some times!
Margaret could never accept being in her sister's shadow, and I think that affected her for the rest of her life. But it's a blessing she wasn't born first, because her arrogance and (later on) recklessness would've scandalized the throne, and she very well could've repeated the national abdication crisis of 1936.
The crown finds the right head
@@abdullahjaved0330 Absolutely. Margaret's arrogance and haughtiness was her downfall, and her failure to do anything useful with her position.
yes, it'd be a nightmare if margaret is queen 😂if i were her, i'd be so happy i get to get so much more freedom and privilege as a princess and none of the responsibility of being a queen, idk why she didn't see it that way. sibling jealousy and desire for spotlight, i suppose. bless her, but it was such petty jealousy (idk if real margaret is THIS jealous, im talking abt her portrayal in The Crown). we don't see Anne being that way to Charles despite people actually wanting Anne to be queen than Charles being king
Margareth had no purpose in life. Not much education and no job.
@@peachbooks3199 She wasn't given freedom to marry who she wanted. SHE, who is just a princess and who will never be queen (Elisabeth already had two kids by this time) couldn't marry her guy because he was divorced, meanwhile Elisabeth, heir to the throne, could marry Philip with his Nazi sisters. Wtf.
Now this is Elsa and Ana in real life😊
Except I would wager Margret is more like Elsa and Elisabeth is anna
woow impressive
Lol fuck Elsa and Anna. These are cartoons.
Now that I think about it, it’s actually really similar.
Just let it go, already... lol. Sorry.. I couldn't resist.
Do you realize the impact of this scene? i mean, the Queen, the SOVEREIGN, whose everyone courtsy to, is kneeling down to someone who has a sword!!! This shows how close they were and how much trust they had with each other.
She was not only the queen here...she was just her big sister.
You realise this is all fiction, right?
You do know these are two sisters in the 20th century, right? This wasn't back in the middle ages or something. She had no fear Margaret would kill her.
Dude, its not mediaeval period, margaret isn't exactly going to slit her throat and claim the throne...
@@countlitmogaphil392 well, she would've had to make a dash for little Charles and Anne as well. with a pistol-wielding Tommy chasing her down the hallways...
@@dijoxx can't pull the wool over your eyes...
"I'll try not to upstage you!"
Well, she *tried* not to, I guess! 😄
I'm gonna miss these two so much. Claire was so good in this. I'd imagine if queen Elizabeth would see this she'd think to herself "I wish I was that fabulous and witty at that time".
No she wouldn’t? The queen was (still is) witty behind closed doors and could have been fabulous too, only she had an entire monarchy to look after.
@@kristelpi652 also lol wat's more fabulous than being the queen of the uk??
Oh trust me her majesty Queen Elizabeth of England 🏴 is more than fabulous and witty, she’s a badass
Vanessa Kirby was excellent! I loved her performance.
The more you repeat about yourself that you have "character", the less you have imo. The way Elizabeth handled herself and Margaret kept attempting to degrade her sister in terms of personhood to look superior speaks volumes of her jealousy at how well-liked The Queen was.
Saw them fighting alone then loosing the battle. Then seeking vendetta and a killing every time they saw the chance. Intruders were their accomplice. From low to criminal.
This also might just be a ham-fisted example of "tell-not-show" on behalf of the writers. Somehow I doubt Margaret would try to simplify all her differences with Elizabeth down to saying that she's "the one with more character" in real life.
Real life wasn't like this their relationship was dramatized
Even worse, this was peter morgan trying to put two sisters against each other who in real life adored and respected each other. So it’s the writer who’s the weirdo
"The more you repeat about yourself that you have "character", the less you have" what utter nonsense. still, Margaret's character was not lessened as time goes by, she still has that wit and carefree attitude with her throughout her life. Your character is innate and you will have and carry that on forever, so if you're "characterless" then you will stay that way up until you die lmao.
Love this scene, perfectly executed
This show has some superb writing. I must say.
Me and my brother fit the dichotomy between Elizabeth and Margaret like puzzle pieces lol
"Too much character, an excess of character.".... "Now look at me and tell me you didn't say that without a little bit of envy." XD
"a lack of compassion can be as vulgar as an excess of tears"... the Dowager Countess "Downton Abbey". lol
"Well you seem uncharacteristically jumpy, guilty conscious perhaps?"
I miss the original cast
The Crown always finds it's way to the right head!
remember when Phillip said to Elizabeth "or she could get on her knees." and Elizabeth got on her knees in this scene....OH LORD JESUS LMAO
wonderful
Great scene
Can you please upload the scene where they have the heart-to-heart conversation at the end of the episode, where Margaret expresses her feelings of resentment about being in Elizabeth's shadow?
Having only 2 children always ends in trouble. Endless competition and jealousy. 💕
Not necessarily. at some point you realize that each is an individual and get on with your lives. It's called adulthood. Many may live long, but very few ever reach it. :)
That's a ridiculous comment.
With her last remark, do you think Elizabeth was essentially calling Margaret a showgirl?
A tabloid fodder
If she was, it was in response to Margaret's own words...she had to tell her off at some point.
0:54 Is Margaret throwing shade towards Prince Phillip?
That is how I interpreted it.
Peter Townsend (RAF officer)
Sergi Calvet Why would be throwing shade on the very man she uses that line to compliment?
Not sure if she did here but she threw shade at Philip so much in season 2. Whenever Elizabeth brought up Peter's divorced past and family background, she always insulted Philip's family; his Nazi sisters, his deranged mother, and philandering bankrupt father. She made a good point, but that's why it was satisfying to see Philip throw shade at her in season 4.
@@lordalessan Tbf, his father was long dead by the events taking place here and well, the portrayal of Alice in the show, especially at Elizabeth and Philip’s wedding, isn’t wholly accurate
There's always at least a bit of jealousy in relationships.
Can you please upload the scene of the heart-to-heart talk that they have at the end of this episode, where Margaret expresses her envy for Elizabeth?
Some of these scenes were VERY TENSE
margaret I LOVE YOU
I don’t watch this show so can someone tell me what the sisters are doing here? Did Margaret stand in for Elizabeth while she was away?
I don't watch it either, but that seems to be it. The Queen appears to be unable to appear somewhere, for whatever reason. . .Commonwealth tour, perhaps? So Margaret will deputize for her in her absence. Including bestowing knighthoods. 🗡
That’s it…ERII Was on her 1954 tour of the Commonwealth and was going to be gone many months. When the sovereign is out of the country or otherwise indisposed the counselors of state fill in for him/her doing ceremonial duties like Investitures, greeting foreign dignitaries, receiving credentials from new ambassadors and filling in for other public appearances. Margaret was a counselor of state until Prince Edward turned 21 and replaced her. The counselors are the monarchs spouse and the next four in the line of succession who are over the age of 21.
YAAAS lilibet, read that b*tch 🤩
I do not remember this scene. Is this a deleted scene? 😀
Kimberley Morton it’s not a deleted scene. Go back & watch the episode... it’s there.
Samantha Banfield Found it, thank you 😄
Kimberley Morton it’s there Girlfriend
Samantha Banfield which episode?
Samantha Banfield why the attitude?🤨
Anybody else want to kneel in front of Vanessa Kirby while she dangles a sword around my head or is that just me?
Although Margaret would never kill anyone, do you think she toyed with the thought of cutting Elizabeth's head off in this scene?
No
They're sisters. I'm sure she did, though never seriously considered it, or never would have gone through with it
Even if she did, it still wouldn't have made her the sovereign. Charles was next in line at that point
Thumbs down for 480p.
Is this a reference to the Duchess of Sussex?
This is a deleted scene no doubt
No it's not...It's in the episode.
Wise girl and Seaweed Brain which episode? Ive watched this series on uk netflix three times and ive never seen this scene.
@@youngwolf6896 I guess it was in the end of episode 9 ...But I am not sure...If you can't find it on Netflix..You can download a rar file from Todaytvseries... I got it from there.
Not deleted I watched on Netflix
You can find the scene in season 1, episode 8 titled ”Pride and Joy”, about 12:49 in.
But, in the end, Margaret was steadfast and loyal to her sister and she was the nearest and dearest to Elizabeth. THAT also speaks volumes about Margaret.
