It's unique what The Crown is doing, by replacing the full cast every two years to age the actors. You can add makeup and wigs, but not what experience does to a person. Even so, it would be interesting to see how Claire Foy and Matt Smith would have played these roles in seasons 3 & 4. I would have liked to have seen their progression. And how mean Olivia Coleman's Queen was to Charles in season 3, would Claire Foy have played her so cold blooded? The only character who felt the same to me was Princess Margaret.
Olivia Coleman is an excellent actress but she herself admitted that she does no research or reference at all when it comes to acting out her roles. I feel like she was indeed cold-blooded in seasons 3 and 4. Still great! But a little too guarded maybe? Though I feel like if she had seen how Claire Foy acted Elizabeth then the portrayal and delivery would have been somewhat different. Really would have liked to see how Claire Foy and Matt Smith would have portrayed their characters respectively in the latter seasons though. I love them so much

I love this show, but my favourite season was the first. Most of these private moments are fiction but, for the first time, I thought of them as couple facing challenges of being married like the rest of us. It endeared them, especially Her Majesty to me.
I think my favorite moment was when Prince Philip shooed Elizabeth’s ladies-in-waiting away when he noticed the open zip on her dress. Royal or not, he’s her husband and that’s his job, first and foremost. Either that or when he and Elizabeth ordered their servants out because it was babymaking time!

I love them all, but season 1 and 2 still my favourite. The next 4 (maybe?) seasons are too close to present day, and most of the people portrayed are still alive, so it's not really exciting
I loved the portrayal of Princess Diana in Season 4. For me, Season 3 was the worst just because the post-war time period in Britain was very dull. I loved Season 1 and 2.
Season 4 was the best by far. The addition of Thatcher and Diana really made everything more interesting. The first 3 season had a couple of boring, dull episodes in each, but season 4 was interesting from start to finish, not a single boring episode.
