Phil is a big fan of Buddy Rich. Chester played with Zappa, Weather report. The solo is written by Phil and Chester and they have reharsals each night after the concert on leather sofas on hotel chamber, in front of each other.
@@totallyradreactions5006 Start with the first album 'In the Court of the Crimson King' then I'd suggest 'Larks Tongues in Aspic' which is a drastically different style than the first album, but equally mind blowing.
@@totallyradreactions5006 Chester and Ralph Humphrey did a drum lick in a live version of “Trouble Every Day” that Phil asked Chester to teach him after the first Genesis rehearsal. It became a classic Phil & Chester bit at the end of “Afterglow “ at every concert. When they nailed it…. still my favorite lick.
There you go... Glad you liked it .. Bit of info. The drum duet is different every time they tour. Phil and Chester start off by playing on a stool between them sat in a hotel room and take it from there. Los Endos starts where the rest of the band come in. Chester played with Frank Zappa and The Weather Report Phil saw him playing double drums live and offered him the gig The When In Rome documentary shows them working out a new one.
Liked it? Dude that was incredible! Thats some cool info regarding them changing the 'duet' too. Such professionals...makes me sick..LOL! Also very cool that Chester played for Zappa...talk about some huge shoes to fill following Bozzio, if he did indeed follow as the next drummer. I'm going to have to check out Weather report, that name doesnt strike me. OH man I'm done for the day on reacting...my mind is still blown from this. very appropriate being the 4th too right? Thanks for the support and commenting...be safe
They have played together since 1977 and Chester also played most of Phil's solo tours. In 1976 tour, when Phil was doing the vocals since departure of Peter Gabriel , he wanted a drummer who would play like him so that he didn't need to watch the drummer with fear... They hired Bill Bruford for that tour and later on Chester Thompson came because the hired gun, Bill, was just hired for that tour. Great reaction!
@@nightHawk66 WOW! You guys have so much knowledge regarding this band. I can't hardly keep up. LOL! I love it though. Thats pretty much how I am with different bands I grew up with as well such as kiss, alot of the hair rock bands...alot of these artist I just know there hits kind of. Like Eric Clapton for example...his library is massive, Bob Seager, Chicago, and so on ect. but i didnt really dive in so to speak. better late than never
Steve Hackett had the main riff/melody for Los Endos and Phil's drum patterns were influenced by Santana's Promise Of A Fisherman from his album Borboletta. So you weren't far off with what you guessed. 😉
Phil robbed Chester off Santana 🤣 he was their touring drummer for about 30 years..because Phil was, as you know the original drummer and a perfectionist their egos clashed 😑 but Phil, singer songwriter and drummer was an intense guy, like most geniuses 😂 I love Phil, always have...🥰 but my synth was called Tony...😁 I had a moog when I was 14, in the early 70s, my older brother had his own band and he gave me the moog...I was too young for it really, I didn't quite get the hang of it then got my first synth when I was 15..I was buzzin 😁 I got 2 more because my hero was Banksy on keyboards so I ended up with Tony..Christine (Fleetwood Mac) and Phil..my keyboards..😏
Chester Thompson the drummer didn't work with Santana till the 80's when he toured with him. There's another Chester Thompson (keyboard player) who did work with Santana in the 70's. To alleviate confusion he's often referred to as Chester D. Thompson (the drummer's middle name is Cortez so he would be Chester C).
One thing about Los Endos is that it is largely an amalgam of musical sequences that appear in other songs on the A Trick of A Tail album. Los Endos is the final track. I think you would really enjoy listening to it from start to finish. It has several brilliant tracks - Dance on a Volcano (which may have the most complex and bizarre time signatures of any rock song), Entangled, Ripples, Squonk, and the title song - all culminating in Los Endos. The repetition of different phrases reminds me a lot of how operas and musicals are structured.
Yes, it was the first album for Collins to take on as leadsinger. It's really a great album! Great production and I really wish later albums would have the same mix, especially And Then There Were Three from 1978.
Buddy Rich was Phil's favorite drummer. Phil definitely wrote the duet, but I bet Chester put his stamp on it too. To me Los Endos is a collection of their best 'endings' put together.....just to show off? Los Endos is a made up word for the title of this piece.
Greatest band on the planet 👏👏👏
Check out Driving the last spike from the we can dance tour liveat Earl's Court
by this time phil and chester played double drums for ten years, and with almost no year pause.
Best end to any concert.... Elton John once said to Mike Rutherford 'You end on an instrumental!!?'

those 2 go at it on this duet
i'll have more up very soon
sorry for the long pause of videos, had to work some thing out
If you like this you should see the latest incarnation of King Crimson, with three incredible drummers.
Ive been wanting to get into some king crimson
can you recommend an album that would be a good start for a first time listener

I can't think King Crimson now without being sad about John Wetton, a great vocalist sadly past on.
@@mnomadvfx I morn the loss of Greg Lake even more. Nonetheless, the live shows are fantastic.
Yes! The video I've been watching with 3 drummers is live in Mexico City! Outstanding!
Chester played with Weather Report and Frank Zappa - Phil was a fan. Chester was offered the job, no audition necessary.
That’s pretty damn cool
That’s when you know you’re the man for the job right there

certainly he made more $$$ in Genesis than with WR and Zappa :)
