I miss my Chevette. I really want another one. My preference would be a 2 door 5 speed from the mid 80's. But id be happy with any Chevette

1st time I sat in one, I asked the proud new owner, "How come the steering column is coming out of the dash at an angle to the right?" The steering wheel was jacked.

@@edpoe4622 I know tons of people who had Chevettes, and I never saw belts like that. It must have either been a rarely purchased option, or a feature that was subsequently deleted as the vehicle entered production.

Amazing anyone trusted GM with these on the heels of the Vega. Brand loyalty must be a factor, or maybe price. During the pinto/vega era, the imports were already bulletproof. America can do it too, when it chooses to...

No, Joe, they weren't. My first new car in college was a VW-awful thing that I got rid of after only two years because of constant troubles. Don't make blanket assumptions or proclamations--it never works.

@@loveisall5520 sorry, I was primarily thinking of Japanese stuff, which never had the vega/pinto issues, though pinto motors were pretty tough. VWs can be quirky (i have one), but they sure have survived in great numbers. They have their own little maintenance needs for sure.
