It saddens me that most kids my age have never heard of her and don't know about how amazing this woman is. I'm so glad that I'll be able to show my kids her music, but I'm sad that my kids will definitely be the only ones to know about her in 20 years. I hope her legacy lives forever, because all people should know about this goddess
One of the best songs ever written! I was 17. Back then, the thing to do (at least for us small town folk) back then was to get some beer, and go down some of the two-tracks (hope everybody knows what those are 😎) and you and your significant other would enjoy the evening. So, you could count on 5 or 6 cars in your general vicinity some nights. You see some little yellow lights coming down the trail.....then, dark. Anyway, my girlfriend and I were enjoying the wonderfully spacious back seat of my Mom's 1976 Grand Prix, when (and it was also popular to wire some home speakers to your deck, and put them up on your car) this song starts playing. It was just perfect. Still takes me back to one of the most poignant nights I can recall. Because the Night was made for lovers!
+PGeorge61 Dam bro everything you said except the car , my car was 1967 Chevelle with roomy back seat , Yuma Az. was so small back then , if we were not at the point , then we were cruising up and down 4TH AVE the main drag thru town . Such great fun times and i sure was lucky to have been part of it all :)))) Yuma Az. Class of 1978 Rocked :)))))
Imagine... I've never seen her face before this moment, I 'just' finished her book JUST KIDS. So in my mind she's this young Rock n' roller who's got a lot in her mind and experienced crazy shit and good shit etc etc.. just like I am now, and many out there.. Now when I come to see her in a developed age, with aged eyes, aged face.. It shocked me as if I suddenly aged with her.. Now everything we loved is far behind us, everything we wanted to do whether it came true or not.. it doesn't matter because we've been put aside if not forward from it, from our own life.. the life we depended on to stay still.. It feels weird, but I like the trance of stepping out of me and watching from the future.. lmao
A legend. One of the strongest women in rock history. Her book, "Just Kids" is a testimony to her undying love and friendship with gay artist Robert Mapplethorpe. She is an incredible woman!
@Stephen Anthony It's not "the truth." It's a historic distortion of the true message of Jesus, which was love and "the kingdom of heaven is within you." The idea of eternal damnation did NOT come from Jesus. The parable of the rich man in hell is not about that.
@Stephen Anthony Obviously, neither of us can prove what we believe about Christianity. Communication is especially difficult if one person (you) believes everything in the Bible is true. Let me just say that my belief about God is a result of my personal experience of God's unconditional love. Your God's love is VERY conditional. IMO, a God who would damn people for sincerely holding the "wrong" belief would be NEITHER JUST NOR LOVING.
This song made a resurgance when I was pregnant and divorced 23 years ago. I will always love it, and I will always love her! She got me through a really difficult time.
Too many people readily misjudge Patti when they hear her name because they think she was/is nothing more than a punk rocker with minimal vocal ability. WRONG !!! The woman could, and still can, sing with very operatic ability much like my long missed Ronnie James Dio. God I miss that man. And by the way, Patti is a Rock n' Roll Godmother to many female rockers such as Pat Benatar and Alanis Morrisette whether they choose to accept the fact or not. Patti Smith, Janis Joplin, Grace Slick ( All Godmother's ) ... Yeah, that's what I'm talking about.
Thank you Chris for that comment. As a woman, I hate it when looks are compared with raw talent..One has nothing to do with the other.Patti Smith..is beautiful!

I think the older I get, my musical taste gets to appreciate pure music, like it goes back to its roots. I am a huge fan of the 10.000 Maniacs version and right now I thought I’d listen to the original (I did many years ago I never liked it) but watching this, so pure and simple, the music and lyrics really radiates it’s meaning to me. I love this. The voice and the guitar were perfect! ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Forgive, the yearning burning
I believe it's time, to feel to feel
So touch me now, touch me now, touch me now
