Oh gosh, I haven't listened to this song for over 15 years (when I couldn't speak or understand English). I keep repeating words "because of the naaa" (which I didn't knew what it meant when I was a child), for years later. I decided to search for this song (quarantine-time 😂) and yesssss!!!
Wow. You got to me Patti Smith. You got me lady. Commanding performance, and with your essential lyrical inclusions, Bravo!! Bravo Patti Smith!! Accomplishing what this art form can accomplish when the artists get it right, like here. Thank you Pattie Smith!
This Song....I remember the first time I heard it! It still has the power to take your breath... The Collaboration of Bruce Springsteen & Patti Smith...
I think what you mean is this is a Bruce Springsteen masterpiece. Patti didn't really have a whole lot to do with it if she helped her write it but let's be honest Co riding doesn't mean you really contributed a whole lot. Her vocals are lackluster and her guitar playing is about in the same category. Patti is famous because of her fuck the world, oh and while we're at it fuck you too attitude. That and the fact of all the famous people she hung out with the likes of Andy Warhol which really propelled her career William S Burroughs, Springsteen and all the other early CBGB alumni. If you listen to the rest of Patty's work it's all crap with the few exceptions. You have to realize there were very few if any women at during that time with that kind of attitude. All she was doing was attempting to masquerade is a 1950s beatnik which is why she hung around W.S. Burroughs and constantly picking his brain in materials for little nuggets she could use for herself. Lou Reed's another one that's right up there with Patti Smith is being highly overrated if not the most overrated.
RED S7VN My god. Thank you, but stay calm. She just said that she likes Patty Smith, it doesn’t matter who wrote the song neither she’s a good singer. She just likes the song, I can’t see anything wrong with it😂
If you haven't had a night where living and dieing were the same thing, then you actually haven't lived. This song brings me to the edge and a rich and varied past has led me to the precipice of recollection and salvation. I know that I have truly lived when I hear this. What else do you want from music ?
This is one song that I can listen to over and over again and never get tired of hearing it! Sooooo much better time in my life back in the 70s and 80s!!!
just such a life affirming song. Well done Bruce for writing it but come on, no one has ever sung it and made it more of a heartfelt anthem than Patti. If you don't feel it hearing her sing , you not alive!
Plus, he wasn't going to finish it. He credits her with the song's success because he would've just tossed it if Iovine hadn't convinced him to give it to Smith, who finished it.
she's a beautiful lady - i learned from her that "I can only do me". She was and continues to be original and genuine soul. I think it was pretty phenomenal learning experience at the age of 16 when I first heard the Horses Album to quote her from her book or maybe it was in Circus magazine (in the 70's it was a fan mag music mag, with real pages and stuff) "Haile Selassie don't need no tribute from me " ("Education is a means of sharpening the mind of man both spiritually and intellectually.")
This song carries the weight of suffering and past experiences that lovers can overcome in becoming one with their soul. I believe in soul mates and I think one day I'll sing this song to my soul mate. I love to sing and it makes me feel free and this song, I've been practicing it for a few months now, this song is absolutely magically real, in the sense that I breath this melody. And I'm in love. ❤
I remember hearing this on WTIX in New Orleans when I was eight years old and being blown away! I am in fifties today and still love this masterpiece! Also Bruce Springsteen wrote Because The Night but Patti Smith made it her own! She is a Punk Goddess! Love Patti Smith!

I listen to my oldies so often, how did I miss this in the mix?? Love it so much 💜
Oh gosh, I haven't listened to this song for over 15 years (when I couldn't speak or understand English). I keep repeating words "because of the naaa" (which I didn't knew what it meant when I was a child), for years later. I decided to search for this song (quarantine-time 😂) and yesssss!!!
Awesome story. Respect and love.
A girlfriend back in college bought this for me as a birthday gift, what a great album. Everytime I hear this I think back to that time.
@jay keck she must have loved you.
Yes, she was very special, a wonderful time in my life.
Ayyyyyyyeeee my pirate crew 🫡
That piano intro is mesmerising and beautiful
Seen patti back in the 70s, her raw power and soulfulness, a presence no other woman in rock could touch
love you Patti
This song it's pure poetry ❤️ thanks Patti for your awesome talent!
The best song. Maybe ever. Lord, what a voice and presentation. Perfection.
Are you sure? Listen to "Preciso me encontrar"
That VOICE 😍and for me" BECAUSE THE NIGHT " the most beautiful song💿 of Patty Smith🔝👏Masterpiece in the history of the music🎶 🔝👏
She just likes the song, I can’t see anything wrong with it😂
@@goddess7083 🤭😘
Nobody rocked this song like Patti
Who else sung it? I only know this version.
@@Scarletpimpanel73 Bruce Springsteen wrote it, Patti Smith made it her own, Natalie Merchant and 10,000 Maniacs sealed it into history
Give the midnight and nikki flores version a try. They have a very cool version of this song.
@@Scarletpimpanel73 Garbage & Screaming Females also did a really kickass cover
Have you ever heard the Luca Mangoni version???
If you haven't had a night where living and dieing were the same thing, then you actually haven't lived. This song brings me to the edge and a rich and varied past has led me to the precipice of recollection and salvation. I know that I have truly lived when I hear this. What else do you want from music ?
Well said sir well said
I love how this song makes you feel - fully empowering - Love you Patti
This is one song that I can listen to over and over again and never get tired of hearing it! Sooooo much better time in my life back in the 70s and 80s!!!
I'd give just about anything to go back to the 1970s when the world made sense and we had GREAT MUSIC like this! Even for just one day!!!
UUUUUUUUUUUU BET YA BIG TIME
Still holds up, thank you so much Patti Smith !!
just such a life affirming song.
Patti and Bruce are co-writers.
Yeah baby, rock it! 70+ and still lovin' it!
30, and rocking right along with you my friend!
Keep on rocking, my friend.
I love how nervous she got singing a hard rains gona fall she is fluid of rich transparency the beauty of the woman 🦋
she's a beautiful lady - i learned from her that "I can only do me".
Nice one, Christina.
Hearing this when I was a kid, it sounded nice. Listening to it now as a much much older person, it sounds awesome!!!
Same here.
Still a fantastic song...was 19 years old and starting my truck driving part of my life...loved hearing this on the radio going down the road.
When she gets to the part "it turns it burns" that just gets me . right in the chest and stomach. I don't know. Why. Ever since 1978.
Same here and I Love "under your command"
It turn it burns
Pork buttock burnth
PERHAPS
Quelle voix magnifique, une artiste de légende. Thank you Pattie.
Sending you roses 🌹💐...Are you single?
Same here her music elevate my soul time to time❤️🔥 you love Westwood too?
Seen Patti a few times in the 70s, never have ever seen another woman sing with a soulful powerful presence as her.
