Patti was In Stockholm, at the Nobel ceremony to sing A Hard Rain's Gonna Fall, which is 7 minutes long, to honor Bob Dylan, the Literary Laureate. When Patti messed up at the second verse she asked if she could begin again. Later she spoke to Bob Dylan's oldest son who said the whole family were very happy with her and he said that his father said, "No one messes up his lyrics any worse than he does."
Thanks Charmian for this information. It is another example and illustration how humble Dylan in fact is. He only regards himself as a simple singer-songwriter, nothing more, nothing less.

Patti Smith was pure lighting in concert in 1979. I never saw such energy on a stage. The most memorable performance I’ve ever seen to this day. The audience was totally engaged and infected by her fire. Electric ⚡️💥🔥
I saw that moment in Stockholm and I thought it was a beautiful moment - how she handled it, so graciously and humbly. It was great. No perfection, just humanity on display - kind, caring and honest.
Always enjoy this show. I've worked on many chat shows for the BBC, but I must say, nothing comes close to the quality programme which this is. I'd love to travel from the UK to see it one day. It's on the bucket list!
I remember she was playing at a venue in Hollywood Fl years ago. She wanted to keep playing when the concert ended. She stayed on stage even after the so called music director turned off the stage lights, shut off her amplifier and turned on the house lights to get the crowd moving. I stood there and looked up at her and she looked down at me and in between grimaces, kept playing her guitar. I sensed it was painful for her because she wanted me to hear her electric guitar. I’ll always remember her tenacity. Thank you Patty for teaching me how to keep on keeping on.
When I first started listening to Patti, when I was about 13, I loved everything about her sound, but I expected her to be so abrasive and perhaps even rude. I'm 40 now, and every time I have seen her speak, she has come across as one of the warmest, most vibrant spirits I have ever experienced. She is always so raw, so vulnerable, but with unmeasurable strength.
As a kid I used to be scared of her photos because she looked so earnest and serious. As a grown up I know her to be a tender, wise, and loving artist.
Patti Smith is a legend, a living legend. point. And when she stops when singing a Bob Dylan's song, this is just 2 legends colliding, and melting when she continue. It's historic and not a flaw. Incredible interview where interviewers let her totally express herself. Kudos guys, you know how to interview a Living Legend!
I love Patti Smith so much.. she is so REAL in the literal sense of the word. And this is one of the best interviewers we have at the moment.. serious questions, genuine interest and a non pretentious attitude.
This is fantastic. So much integrity -- mature people sharing important personal insights. On so many other shows everyone would be trying to outdo each other being clever and interrupting the person speaking to get in a joke. American talk shows are notoriously trashy and phony that way (The View, The Talk, all the talk shows at night). But then there is also Graham Norton.
Noe Berengena you r rite about the revolving door of crap that is generated on american tv . i remember when johnny Carsons show was like this , when they would talk calmly about mature subjects .
I absolutely adore Patti. She's so real, down to earth and of course a poetic genius! She's also always smiling. Such positive energy, considering she sadly lost both her husband and her son.
She is on Instagram and usually likes/responds to most of the fan comments. And always wishes a happy birthday to the ones that ask for it. She is so genuinely warm it melts my heart.
When I wrote to her, her mother actually wrote back. That was quite a few years ago and until I read this, I had actually forgotten that letter . I love her work so much. She's all grace and passion.
People on RUclips tried to hate on her and humiliate her for the performance at the Nobel event, but the audience’s reaction, and their thunderous applause at the end tells the true story.

A few years ago I read Just Kids, and also watched a documentary about her (it was wonderful, but the title escapes me at the moment). I'd adored Patti to the point of worship since I first heard her in about 1979, but then I found myself a little turned off by what I thought of as some name-dropping and her excitement about some expensive little designer piece of clothing she'd gotten. And then I realized that THAT is the beauty of Patti--she doesn't give a rat's ass about what I or anyone else think of what she does and how she looks and how she lives her life. If I think that I'm just so cool that I can have disdain for her Comme des Garcons outfit--that I think she's "selling out" because one day she doesn't feel like wearing a ratty tee shirt and jeans--that's just too freaking bad. She is exactly who she is, all the time, as far as I can tell. Who else can you say is so utterly true to herself? She will always be a role model for me in that way (and I LOVE her music!).
She does what she wants and she's sort of filmic. Plus like you see in her books, (like the part when they were always going to Max's Kansas City), she and Robert got into what I see as non-egotistical self-promotion (dressing and looking a certain way) because they knew they had to get publicity for their art, which they knew was powerful and would change the world.

Haven’t heard Patti Smith in so long. I remember back when she was young, falling off stage on her head and the band kept playing. That has stuck in my mind all these years later.👍
"No one messes up his lyrics any worse than he does." Oh my God I love you guys. It's OK if we're a bit afraid of you Patti it just means we love you even more!!
Something about her... I dunno what... just something. I feel so drawn to her. Look at all those people on the stage. They look so drawn to her, too. I wish I had her for a friend. So warm. So honest. So humble. So real.
"Outside of society, they're waiting for me Outside of society, that's where I wanna be"......that's been my theme song since the first time I heard it in 1977 at the age of 13 and she's been one of my musical heroes ever since......
What an amazingly human human. I had no idea Patti Smith was such a humble and unpretentious woman. Watching and listening to her was like sitting in your living room with very close friends and chatting away.
The day after I engaged my now wife in Berkeley, we walked into Golden Gate Park and Patti was performing a free concert. The craziest part is there was no more than a few hundred people. The park was practically empty, and she was singing her heart out and reciting prayers over the people. It still remains a lifelong blessing for my family, of now which my wife and I have been given three children. I attribute a lot of the core of our foundation to Patti. May she be blessed eternally in body and spirit. Amen. I love you, Patti.
Oh, how well can that lady communicate with the audience. Seeing her on stage, past her 70s, with energy of a teenager, was one of the most inspiring moments of my life!
I want people to notice how Patti tells a story. The white radiator and the blue coat when she first saw Fred. Those are the thoughts and words of a poetess.

I saw that moment in Stockholm and I thought it was a beautiful moment - how she handled it, so graciously and humbly. It was great. No perfection, just humanity on display - kind, caring and honest.
Always wonderful interviews. Skavlan conducts his interviews respectfully to each guest, which is lovely watch. Thank you.
Thank you so much for watching and commenting! We're so glad you like the show. Thank YOU!
Always enjoy this show. I've worked on many chat shows for the BBC, but I must say, nothing comes close to the quality programme which this is. I'd love to travel from the UK to see it one day. It's on the bucket list!
Patti Smith was and is a breath of fresh air. Her total lack of affectation and her honesty shine through. Thanks, Patti.
What an incredible, solid woman. That is what integrity looks like.
Integrity has gray braids? Always?
This woman talks with so much passion that the words she speaks make my heart burst
Great interview, she's such a treasure!
Such a beautiful soul, Patti Smith. ❤
Patti Smith has such a beautiful past Peace will happen in our lifetime!
I love Patti Smith so much.. she is so REAL in the literal sense of the word.
And this is one of the best interviewers we have at the moment.. serious questions, genuine interest and a non pretentious attitude.
Wow, thanks so much for that!
Noe Berengena Graham Norton is great! And British 😉
Very well said, Noe. We can even go further and say America as a whole (and popular culture) has devolved to become trashy, phony and self serving.
Well said
marcel1970x How is Norton a brit? He was born in the Republic of Ireland.......
Noe Berengena you r rite about the revolving door of crap that is generated on american tv . i remember when johnny Carsons show was like this , when they would talk calmly about mature subjects .
A truly lovable human being, and it shows every time she speaks.
A well lived and amazing life.
I absolutely adore Patti. She's so real, down to earth and of course a poetic genius! She's also always smiling. Such positive energy, considering she sadly lost both her husband and her son.
I gave you a cup of black coffee at Park West Club in Chicago during your early years. I was so honored to do that for you. Thank you Patti!!
Please tell the story 😍 ?
Park west was the place , went there many times wish I would of seen Patti when she played there
Years ago
If you wrote to her
Her sister always wrote the fans back
Many years ago my friend David wrote to her a couple times and her mother Beverly Smith responded.
@@Rose-qd2bl I've got letters from her mom and once spoke to her mom on the phone.
There is a lot of love for Patti worldwide because she is of the people and for the people. She is the people's artist.
i just wanna retire and be like her next door neighbor and every morning we smoke a joint and drink earl grey tea
I love that vision. I hope you achieve it, Jarrod.
ME TOO!!!!
@@catherinehart3775 I can't get my hands on some dope to smoke. I think it would help with my arthritis etc. Apart from that I love to sing alone in my home, and it always makes me feel better.
Amen. Cool, older people who have lived have awesome insight. Getting blazed with 'em would make it just a bit more cozy. I'll bring the coffee. Tea aint my thing. Yes, I invited myself.
@@bradagee9041 Orange Pekoe Tea is sheer delight. I'd get you some to go with your smoke, then later the Coffee you request. I make a great Clementine Cake A la Nigella Lawson. I wish I'd been able to get something to puff puff. Anyone? It's my birthday soon and what a gift to receive. I would pay. Oh ! Dear.
I was lucky to see her live in '77, when I was 19. Powerful performance!
+Nancy Bevilaqua........You're an idiot.
I’ve had a lot of favourite women in my life but this one is my all time love . A true living legend
👋i hope you're safe over there? I hope this year brings happiness prosperity love and peace 💞❤️🕊️🕊️ all over the world 🙏🌍
I'm originally from Canada currently living in California ☀️☀️☀️☀️and you where are you from if i may ask?💭
I remember the first time I heard Patti Smith's voice. I was driving home from work and she came on the radio. I literally started to cry.
Lovely interview, intelligent questions, and a wonderfully articulate Patti.
I love this interview. I love her presence, her sweetness and her unabashed honesty. Oh- and her music!
what beautiful eyes she has. Very kind.
@Sandra Kenny What do her songs have to do with her eyes!
I'm 63 yrs young I grew up with The Beatles and Dylan. When I found Patti I was so in love with her. She's so real! My daughter loves her too! She's 36 and has loved her since she was little. Thank you Patti for giving us so much joy!

Such a clear lovely woman.
She has a mustache and could of shaved!
@@lindadavies3281 .... she doesnt wanns shave lol leave her alone
Haven’t heard Patti Smith in so long. I remember back when she was young, falling off stage on her head and the band kept playing. That has stuck in my mind all these years later.👍
😂. That’s great.
Took her a while to recover from that. I think it was in the 70s.
I adore seeing and re-seeing her performance in the Nobel
I love this interview. She talks about so much. I love her. She's a real hero to me.
I like the interviewer too
“I’m kid friendly” that was great.
She is so cute and funny.
Straight talking patti smith ,the world needs more people like this, but shes unique, anyone agree ,GREETINGS FROM SCOTLAND
So warm. So honest. So humble. So real.
Words can't describe how much I love and adore this amazing woman.
Patti's Nobel prize performance was amazing, she handled it with grace and in the end made it very special.
"Outside of society, they're waiting for me
Outside of society, that's where I wanna be"......that's been my theme song since the first time I heard it in 1977 at the age of 13 and she's been one of my musical heroes ever since......
Yeah!
She is so amazing! What a life she’s lived, and she’s loved deeply her family and dearest friends. And, the ultimate artist. Beautiful spirit!
She is an honest and charismatic lady. Hope women/men would get inspired.
Yes!❤️
