OMG. SO Glad I'm alive on the planet in the same moment as these two.
Jane St. Clair 👍🏻
We really are lucky people!
Absolutely ✌️
I agree with you Ms. Jane St. Clair.
I so wish I was there!!!!!
I'm 32, maybe younger than the majority of fans here, or maybe not... The Beacon theater is absolutely beautiful as is this song. Patti Smith is a legend. Thank you for sharing.
Terrific version of this song from the two most down to earth people ever to grace a stage, and probably the most talented.
Patti delivers the goods. She's one badass 71 year old rebel.
71?! Holy frijole man. NEVER woulda thought.
There are alot of us old rebels still shaking up the system, never stopped not ever.
not quite... she sounds like she's 171. she & the drummer deserve each other . now `Bruce still sings on key.
Amazing performance, brings tears to my eyes. Patti Smith is a legend, nice to see The Boss still rocking too
I love Patti Smith so much. She's incredible.
It's a beautiful thing to create something in our youth that still honors us in our maturity.
I was there! It was SO AWESOME!!!
Patti Smith is the coolest woman that I wish I had been listening to all along. I'm sorry Patti. I didn't know. You would be one of my best girlfriends. You remind me of my soul sistah Vicke :)
Who do not love Bruce? He is great man, this song is super, beautiful, wanferful duo
This song, everything about it. Gives me chills.
Agreed
The cream always rises to the top..Incredible two pros
Doing what they LOVE
Greetings from Dublin Ireland brother and sisters
What a beautiful solo both guitar and voice delivered by Bruce, but best of all was the beautiful entrance smile. "Because the Night" brings out the best in all of them!!!
some songs will last for ever , this is one of them .
I have been dreaming of a duet of this between these two for years. I'd've loved to have been there, but this is an acceptable second.
To see that live must be something not alike dying and rebithing again! GORGEOUS!
I’m 72 male married 50 and I love Patti
Patti is such a sensual woman...I remember hearing this for the first time back in the 70's...Thought it was the sexiest ballad ever...
Ive always thought it was the shizizz; and then some
Never fails!!!!!
WE LUV YER, OLD PATTI. YOU ARE FOREVER 29 IN MY HEART!!
I hope she's like Neil and rocks forever. She should play with Neil more.
Omg. When Bruce came out I got goosebumps legend both of them 🖤🖤
Happy 75.Birthday Patti....😘🌸...

The hairs of my neck prickle when Patti sings this classic 💑
I love them both, thanks for sharing !
Michael Stipe deserved a mention as well....his live versions with Bruce and Patti have been epic.
"Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine"........

Hi, Liza! :))
Lea F Lucky You
One day in 1978 I was listening to Vin Scelsa on WNEW-FM. Vin played the new single from Patti Smith titled “Because the Night” from the “Easter” album. The song ended and he played it again, and again, and ...
Lawrence Westby awesome memory!
good times, the best decade to grow up in
I remember. He played it 4 times. I think I hit 'record' on my old cassette player and played it another 44 times that day.
So true!!
Very cool 👏Yes the 70s then the 80s and..,, dang I sure wouldn't have guessed I'd still be around😂🙏🏼😎
ADORE ❤️ 🎸... "REMEMBER WE ARE ALL IN THIS HARD TIMES 2020. TOGETHER.... 🗽🌈🙏
Breathtaking and awe inspiring song, what a voice and what voices! Simply brilliant.
If you haven't checked out "The Defiant Ones" do so...the story of this song (and , similarly, "Stop Draggin' My Heart Around") is amazing! Patti Smith just rocks and, the Boss, is still the Boss!
Michael Stipe deserved a mention as well....his live versions with Bruce and Patti have been epic.
Haunting!
Patti delivers the goods. She's one badass 71 year old rebel.

Two giants!!
Thank you !
Bruces melody and Pattis Killer Lyrics, what a wonderfull song.
The look Patti gives Bruce @2:40 is Pure Love !
thank you!
I found a copy of "Horses" in a flea market in Athens. After all these years it still rocks.
Man it's both awesome and scary to see some of my favorite rock icons this old - it's a reminder of how much I've aged. I'm glad they can both still rock though.
It's a song of legend. Bruce wrote it but didn't fit on Darkness on the Edge of Town. Patti loved it, rightly so, and then nailed it, spot on. I have both, 1978 Darkness 12" 33 vinyl and Patti Smith 7" 45. Stunning stuff. 😁👍
Patti wrote the verses after she got Bruce’s tape with the chorus.
Great moment!
I'm sorry if I sound like an ass,but THIS IS MUSIC,not the fucking shit that they give us today.
Those ARE GODS of MUSIC and for a 65 years old like me I feel I've been very lucky to be alive when this kinda music was made and those artists were on top of the World.
Like ABBA said''Thank you for the music''.
Wow! What a treat! Thank you so much!
Two things, Because The Night is the anthem of my life. And I wonder if Bruce ever thinks for a moment, shit, they're booing me, then realizes they are saying BRUUUUUUCE and goes, well DUH!
I saw Patti do this song at Stony Brook Univ when it first came out. She sang it twice👍 She was wearing a mink which she threw on the stage floor.
Fantastic song.
People have the power dancing in the dark.
Oh Wow... Dream come true...
Awesome!!!!!.....thanks for sharing this!...
Patty. ♥️♥️♥️
How to age splendidly with grace.
Well, it's always good to see 2 greats performing their own song. But for a real treat, check out the cover by 10000 Maniacs. FANTASTIC!
some serious badassery brewing
Love this so much
Let's dream.
Let's live.

Yes Bruce is a great guitarist in addition to being a great songwriter, check out Disorder in the House, Murder Incorporated, Prove it all Night live from the 70s....great stuff out there
Je ne me lasse pas de cette chanson et avec ces deux voix réunis c est encore plus fort!!! 💗 💗
Patty & The Boss!!!!!
Whish I was there then!!!!!!!!!
patti smith and bruce springsteen would make a great rock star couple
There are those that say they tried that back in the seventies....it might be true or rumours...but in any case it obviously didn't work out.
This is awesome. I've seen this song played live by bruce but never Bruce and Patti together. Pretty cool!!!
Check out the 25 Anniversary of Rock & Roll Hall of Fame... Springsteen., Smith and Bono perform this song...
Bono admits he wished he wrote it!
Old rockers are the BEST
Wow! Just wow!
Patti and her daughter did a lovely song for Johnny Depp for his birthday a couple of years ago. Was online somewhere. Think he posted it on Twitter. He’s a much vilified innocent man. And an incredible actor and musician. Made the mistake of marrying a piece of trash. God he’s paid dear for that. But hoping Virginia trial will restore his name and reputation. He’s a big buddy of Victoria and Shane MacGowan. Was sat their wedding in maybe Switzerland. So unassuming and sweet. They adore him. The whole world knows he’s no misogynist. Should never have left Vanessa. Now she’s classy and beautiful and talented. They were well matched. And French. God I love the French.
Awesome!
Pity it isn’t as good as it was for many years. I was wild with this song....
He could so easily have stolen that show but he was SO respectful, almost too much so! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Thanks for noticing!!! He always does….
I noticed that too and it shows both their greatness. There were no egos on stage, just the song.
Happy Birthday 💐💐💐💐💐💐
everybody loves the Boss,
always in best company
