Remember when live performances were live? and had some soul? feeling? emotion? One good thing about modern media I suppose is we can still watch Patti. Fukn awesome.
She really is Punk Rock, like everything about her. She is a real artist,, poet, writer,, musician, influencer OG, and truly an icon of our time. CBGBs!
Patti Smith: Way back then, until this- simply AWESOME, AMAZING, this lady then/later just ROCKS! Terrifically written song, delivered then/later POWERFULLY, does IT get any better then this? AND to have the superb Sarah McLachlan doing the sublime piano intro, then later instrumental harmony. So GLAD I've lived in the BEST MUSIC times EVER!!
My friend and I went to her outdoor concert in philly many years ago. My father picked us up afterwards. As he waited Patti Smith lite up a stoogie during a photo op and offered it to my father. He almost fainted. A memory that will never fade.
I always got a shiver up my spine when I hear that haunting piano introduction, knowing what’s going to come next when she starts singing. Love this song.
@@patrickoshnock6925 The soul is a metaphor for the personality of a consciousness. Electricity is just a name mankind gave to a force of which we have no idea where it comes for or why it even exists. People can agree or disagree on the meaning of a word and that too changes over time as society changes. So, yes the soul is an old word that has religious baggage. Today we use the word "consciousness" because it more scientific. However, both essentially mean the "essence" of a person and both cannot be proven even exist. Which metaphor people prefer is another discussion altogether and one I would not waste my time going in to as it would divert from the main point I was making and would not had anything constructive to it either.
@@patrickoshnock6925 I believe she is which is interesting in that she has more humanity, is more enlightened and has contributed more to this world than anyone I’ve ever met who believes in an organised religion.
@@patrickoshnock6925 Well you might believe my opinion means nothing (not very Christian of you is it) but although I think you are wrong in that Patti Smith (you do know she was invited and sang at the Vatican in 2014?) will be forgotten in 100 years you are right that the Catholic Church will be remembered in 500 years as that organisation in the 20th Century (and still today) that condones and supports the sexual abuse and mental destruction of children all over the world by hundreds of Catholic Priests. As Mahatma Gandhi once said when asked about his opinion on western religion, “I like your Christ but I don’t like your Christians”. May you go in peace with whatever god your parents chose for you.
@@patrickoshnock6925 Maybe we should use the correct terminology here in that these children were raped plain and simple. I’m not gay but find it incredibly offensive that you lay the blame/cause of your priests behaviour on them all being gay (although we both know shame, repression and control is the foundation of your religion) - weren’t many of the young victims girls? Getting back to the point of the OP, It’s clear that your definition of having a soul is very different to the 95% of the 7 billion people on this planet who see things differently. As you can tell I’m not a huge supporter of the Catholic Church but I find no desire to search out RUclips content on your religion and criticise it to those believers (I respect everyone’s opinion and beliefs) so find it bizarre that you want to seek out a Patti Smith video and negatively comment on the belief of the OP who was incredibly polite and respectful to you (RED Knight). I’ll end by saying Patti Smith is seen as a decent and kind soul by millions of people around the world (including your pope and the Dalai Lama) and long may she continue to provide happiness and joy through her music and poetry. Good day and goodbye.
This is one of the world's most beautiful women, one of literature's most honest and intriguing voices, one of the most exciting performers on the stage... yes, you could say I've got a vibe for Patti, and it goes back to her first show in Detroit, at the Masonic Temple. Her band was preceded by Fred Sonic Smith's band Sonic's Rendezvous, which I had followed at Second Chance, a bar in Ann Arbor, and before then, when I was in my teens, I saw him many times with the legendary and genuinely revolutionary MC5. I've seen Patti many times and it's never anything less than a spiritual experience. And her book, "Just Kids," shows she doesn't need a band or a stage to be at her best.
It's a good song but we live in a fortunate age and place where there are thousands of gems of songs which I'd consider to be 'perfect' as well, such as 'Heaven'-Bryan Adams, 'Father Figure'-George Michael, Alone-Heart, and I could go on and on. Let's just be grateful we celebrate music in our culture since there are evil nations and religions out there which ban music and punish those who listen to it or create it. Our civilization must be preserved and passed on.
I know Patti's recording from the Easter album describes my memory of 21 years old and overwhelmed by sexuality and emotions I had no idea how to manage better than any other piece of music ever.
