Hey Kelli, next time maybe show the whole process of how to file the nail. I feel like you have the instructions good but the visual of it could of been better if you actually showed in your video the entire process of filing from round to square, instead of just showing a little part of it... :)

I'm learning guitar and short nails are paramount. Somewhere I read straight nails were preferable to curved. So, I'm trying your filing method to shape and maintain my short nails. Thanks again, and Happy Holidays.
After watching this video, I bought this file and it is awesome. You have convinced me to only file my nails from now on. I got the file that says "Books and Coffee". Oh I'm so glad to hear it! Funny enough, I did this video years ago and I had had the files for a year at that point.. I still use these same files! I've NEVER had to replace them! I wonder how much longer they'll be good for, haha!!

I got a couple of these exact files & they are such HIGH quality!!!! And the filing doesn't take nearly as long as I thought it would! I love that these files don't hold bacteria (I wash mine with soap and warm water after each use however), & that I'm able to do the sawing motion! I'm way too lazy to just go one direction. Lol Plus these are absolutely beautiful!!! ♡♡♡♡ Thank you for posting this video!

same for me, their shape and length are perfect and just right! chic and elegant. i find that shaping my nails calms my nerves in a way :) i have both metal and glass files.

I hate the feel of glass files. Can't even watch you do this - its like scratching on a blackboard.
I prefer sandpaper files and when my nails are much too long for my liking I shorten them with a clipper.

just make sure to use scissor clippers because regular ones can break your nails!

lol grass is always greener!! My nails grow out square, but I prefer rounded. The struggle with me is that when I file to make them round, I have to be super careful because it could easily become crooked :( ugh so frustrating! The glass file though is something I didn't know about!! I totally ordering one!!
Filing round nails is surprisingly hard haha! And you’ll love a glass file. I still use these same files and it’s been years since this video - no replacement necessary!
You're the best Kelli! I file my nails the exact same way. I always file them with the file going up and down, especially to get the loose ends off.

Wow Kelli, I thought I was the only one who files their nails vertically, it's hilarious that you do that as well! I feel like I have more control over how much length I'm taking off when I file that way. I actually just run the pointy end under my nail to take the residue that's left over from filing, away once I'm done with filing. 😊💖🙋🏻💅🏼🙋🏻💖😊

I have been watching your videos and I think you are a professional in this area. Like many other people leaving comments I like your advice. I find glass files work great and leave less rough edges to clean up. Also I have followed those five tips you suggested for many years and have always had success with lasting results. Even as a professional stylist with my hands always in water and various chemicals the polish usually lasts. But a year or so ago I started experiencing splitting and chipping nails, so I began using the professional product brand called Gelish and now my nails have stopped breaking and the product lasts 2 to 3 weeks. They use the same steps you have given. Thanks for your great instruction.👍🏻

Loya Frostwind I love love love square nails. I won't do other shapes. But a week ago I moved my hand with my blanket and scratched the biggest line on my face. Most of it was fine. But the inch and a half that was deep. Drew blood and now is scabbing. UGH! I'm usually so careful. Without pain there is no beauty!!
Oh, now I know for sure that I won't change my oval nails :)

Hi Kelli, I got my GERmanicure file from Amazon today. I love it! I’m retired so I got the one that says I’m Too Pretty To Work, lol. Perfect for me right now. I have a Nail Tek but it is a tiny one. It works well but is too tiny. Ok for small repairs, but not weekly filing. Thanks for the recommendation.
Oh also, if you don’t want to patch with tea bags, the nail techs I worked with in the salon used perm papers. Those little square papers you slide onto the hair before you wrap the section in a perm rod. They work really well. Sally’s BS has them. One of your other licensed cosmos may have already mentioned them, but just in case. Happy Sunday! Blessings!

You’re so welcome Kelli! Something hit me while doing laundry yesterday. I think you could also try using laundry dryer sheets for patches, but the unscented ones. I think they add powder to the scented ones, so sticking to the nail could be an issue. I’ll give it a try next time I need to patch and will let you know how it works. Blessings! Thanks for this video. I was trying to do square nails and obviously doing them wrong. I look forward to all your tutorials because my nails are short and I seem to be able to follow your instructions well. My nails split when they start getting long. Any suggestions or tutorials for that concern would be appreciated. I got tired of using silk wraps.

i also only use glas files and and my favorite one is a medium budget one :) you dont have to go a million times over and over again a few times is enough

I do the perpendicular filling, especially on my toes. Learned it from watching nail techs put on my acrylics when I wore them.

Do you have to file your nails "naked" or can you file them polished? I tried to read all the comments to see if someone already asked you that, but I just couldn't read all the comments. I love your channel!
If your "smile lines" (the line that marks the white part of your nail) are uneven, it might be easier to file with polish on, so you can see how your nails look with polish already. I used to file with polish on but I found for me personally it's easier to tell the shape without polish on. Hope that helps!
People that want/have long nails be warned that square nails break more easily(cause of the edges) and short nailed people it is less likely to have your bail broken with

Hullo again! I found your channel when I was nervous about attempting to salvage my broken nail with a teabag trick. Now, two manicures and tea bag applications and one nail shape change (from oval to kind of mini-kitten stiletto/pointier than oval, whatever that is? 😅) later, I find your videos very useful again!! My whole life my Mom has had square acrylic nails, so square this blind girl at my church likes to hold her hand during it so she can enjoy the strange shape! I've been unsure how long I can grow them out in that shape, because I think it's considered less strong of a shape than oval. But since I'm cutting all of them super short (my broken nail was in the quick two weeks ago, ouch!), I may try something new! I love a French manicure in a square shape! or a black glossy/matte French, which feels super chic! Maybe a few "trying something new" videos would be interesting. I find your manner of having doubts but seeing how things go, discussing things and explaining your reasoning behind everyday things is interesting and it lets your personality really shine. For anyone who likes your sense of humor and general manner that would be extremely entertaining! I also enjoy the kind of, "Does this happen to other people too?" things you add in your videos. Girl, if I had a nickel every time my eyeliner rebelled on me, well.... I guess I'd have a whole lot of nickels. 😅 I ordered a crystal file last week and it's en route. i wish it could have gotten here in time for this! Oh well, one must go into battle with the weapons on hand. Keep being awesome!

Omg, I never put that together! I used to always only file my nails, because I hated the way they looked if I cut them. I'd end up filing them even and clean anyway, so I figured, why not? For whatever reason (I think playing guitar) I decided to keep them really short for a long time, so I started cutting them. My nails never used to break, and now they break constantly! It's horrible! I have super strong nails, and they grow really quickly, but the chipping and breaking all the time is driving me nuts! It started when I started clipping them though, and I never put that together as a reason! Thank you so much! Down with the clippers!!

After have chemo treatments, my nails went from awesome to hideous. They were thin & brittle. I have ridges horizontal & vertical. About 3 months ago, I began taking Hair, Skin & Nail supplements along with massaging Vit E & coconut oil in my cuticles nightly. Wow, what a difference! There is 1 problem I haven't seen addressed yet. How about nails that grow crocked on the fingers? As a child, I bit my nails to the cuticles. Due to the constant pressure of my teeth against my nails, they grow off to the side. How can I shape them to make them look less crocked? I have small hands & squared tips look best on me. I just started watching your videos & am learning so much (at the old age of 59)! I am totally in to nail art too. Love the gradient/ombre look. Help!
+S Davis wow, it sounds like your body has gone through a lot! It's awesome that you were able to grow your nails and cuticles to be healthy again :) as far as crooked nails, I don't think that having a biting habit has affected them - it's usually due to an injury where the nail plate grows (under your skin). Most frequently I hear people say they slammed their fingers and that their nail started to grow crooked from that. My best advice is to file your nails so that they look straight when polishes, not necessarily making the white part of your nail even.

DreamM: lot of nail growth has to do with what you're not eating. Certain vitamins in certain foods speed nail growth. Search Dr. Eric Berg's videos for what to look for.
Hi Kelli i shape my nails rounded because they are not even peeking over my finger tips.after they have grown out then i will decide which shape will look nicely on them.

Always wondered how you all got the square look, at times thought it was some special fingernail cutting tool.
I bought a glass nail file because of you and oh man it feels so much better and the cheap cardboard ones! Is there any benefit to flee square nails instead of round ones? I personally prefer keeping them round
I'm glad you enjoy the glass files! No benefit to square vs round, I just file mine square haha! In fact, most people prefer round because the square edges usually cut you hahaha
My nails grow slowly but it’s hard to grow them out because they are weak and they bend and break easily.

Opinion on metal nail files? i use one and find it so much easier, but i DO go in one direction when filing.
I really like a metal nail file I got from target, it seems so barbaric but it works so good. The glass nail file I have must have been made cheep or poorly so I actually scratched the surface off of it. I got a better one but it was so weird. Great video!
Oh man I've heard of those kind of cheap glass ones, where they just stick a bit of grit onto the file instead.. sounds awful!
lady tomato: I encourage you to try the Germanicure crystal nail file mentioned in the video. It's about $10-12 and will last you the *rest of your life* if you don't break or lose it. I've used the best metal nail files made by the Japanese. This crystal nail file is *soooo* much better.
have you ever used a brand called Sinful collection? if so ..what do you think of it?
+Sheree Michaels I have used Sinful Colors in the past, yes :) I find that it has a very sharp smell though so I haven't used them much in recent years!
My nails file and tear more if I file. If I clip one time with clippers then I have less issues. I have a glass file but it seems to take forever when I try to file. Love this video though. Wish my nails were thicker and stronger

Kelli Marissa psh I gave up on that a long time ago because one is always perfect and the other is womp womp womp. But I did just order this stencil from kiss on amazon the Zabrena did a review on that is a stencil only for with which is the hardest part so maybe that will help get them even since I'm not free handing it. We will see lol!

i always wanted the glass ones as I'm sure they last long. I usually do the motion of up and down like you. It helps me out. And I would love a video in how to grow your nails longer. I always bite mine and they take forever to grow. I usually just keep painting my nails so I won't bite them and give them a chance to grow somewhat.
+SHINeeFan 24 noooo don't bite them!!! You gotta just keep doing pretty nail designs so you aren't tempted LOL! And yeah, the glass nail files last insanely long! I can't believe mine have worked for a year so far.

@@shineefan2479 Don't get glass nail files where the sand has been applied as sold in the US. Germanikure nail files are etched crystal and one will last you a lifetime. They're only $10--12 and worth every penny.

I really laughed at your point of not having to buy new files if i buy a glass file... honestly i have to buy them all the time because i break them so often :-D but luckily they are not that much expensive here in Germany so this doesn´t ruin me :D
and i´m excited to hear about your tricks for faster growing nails...because i really do believe that someone can´t influence the growth speed at all ;) yes, there are possibilities to avoid your nails from chipping or breaking, but not in growing faster...
+EisTigerchen haha well that might be true but a lot of people do things to slow the growth of their nails! And I guess I'm lucky I haven't broken mine, I don't remember ever dropping it though lol!
EisTigerchen, only use them on a bed or couch or where there is a rug. Stay away from hard surfaces. ; )
Yeah definitely want to see a video of how to make your nails grow more quickly! My nails grow about 1 mm every 90 days and they are very thin and not that healthy. I find it so interesting that I just started watching nail videos a week ago and it seems like everyone has their nails rounded or in a very pointed witch like shape which I totally hate. So I decided to take my square nails which are almost exactly like yours and make them rounded. Oh boy was that a mistake because I can't stand the look of rounded pointed nails especially if they are long. Very rarely can I apply nail polish without having tons of bubbles is there a hack to prevent this? I'm going to be getting some nail polish thinner to see if that resolves the issue.

Sure, but it just feels wrong to me. I usually just wipe my nails across my sheets a few times which gets rid of the bits really well. Still love your channel 😀

Use castor oil it's very cheap you can get some at a pharmacy or hair store or try a grocery store. Rub it on your fingernails every day and you will see results
Simranjit Sokhi try biotin pills that are about 5,000 mg its inexpensive and you can find it at the drugstore. Make sure to drink lots of water when taking to avoid breakouts
I need to get one of the glass nail files. I guess Sally Beauty Supply would have them? I haven't seen them before or at least I haven't paid attention to them 😂😂😂 You look really good in this video. I can’t seem to keep square nails witout breaking them. Any insight on this? I have fairly long nails, and always end up breaking off a corner if I keep them square.
In addition to a video about growing nails fast (please) do you have one or can you make one about nails that grow in uneven curves? Is there a vitamin or product to take or apply or a technique to use or is my only remedy to stick to overlays? I never polish my bare nails because it eccentuates the odd curvature at the tip. Please help!
+quitecute3 I think the best solution for that is to file your nails to where it doesn't have that curve - the shape of your nails can disguise curves! For example if your nail curves to the left, you can file that curve off so you have an almond shape.
My nails seem to split/flake if they grow past a certain length. Then they break. Do you know why? Do you know something I can do about it?
