Losing* sorry to correct you but I see this mistake all the time. Even the president of the United States tweets it incorrectly and he’s meant to be leading by example. Spread the word. ‘Lose’ (to lose money) & ‘Loose’ (to loosen a knot I.e the opposite of tighten) So it should be .... losing £32k Not loosing (which would be to loosen) :) Merry Educatedmas
Yup. Too bad Jim doesn't get paid for this (well, indirectly through RUclips I suppose) It would be a better use of government funds than much of what they waste it on.
This guy is literally saving lives. My 73 year old uncle was scammed out of 30.000 euros a few years ago, much of his retirement savings. Eventhough he was completely healthy before, he died in his sleep 2 months after the scam from all the stress and worry. These scammers are beneath rats.
Its a salesmens technique very old. You get them to agree or say yes as many times as possible through the conversation so they are trained to say yes at the important times. In person they nod alot for same effect.
It always blows me away that the victims don't immediately figure out something is up once the scammer starts insisting that they need to lie to their bank about a wire transfer
these scams are designed with the understanding that they'll only work on very gullible people, these call centers send out thousands of calls a day knowing they'll get money out of a few people who will fall for it
When scams are viewed through the lens of a spectator, it always feels this way, keep in mind that these scammers target people who are not technologically fluent / gullible / too trusting. And on top of that there is a later of emotional manipulation, whether that is the fear of losing every cent you have ever worked for, or otherwise. (For example, a scammer telling an elderly woman (or scambaiter posing as one) that they remind them of their grandmother). AND they send out thousands of calls per day so even if only 5 people fall for the scam, the call centre will make 200-2000 each one.
@@updownbanana Unfortunately in many cases, even when a person suspects they might be being scammed, loss aversion is a powerful thing that the scammers will often employ when the victim starts to show skepticism. So a person doesn't have to be gullible to end up being scammed. Unfortunately I have a friend that learned that the hard way. But yeah, don't lie to your bank about what's going on. They can help you if you're honest about what's going on.
@vegetable man; "he's old now stupid"... Are you sure about that? Despite his life experience, he nearly got scammed outa $32,000. If at 91 you're trusting every single Indian accent on the phone asking for money, something's not right up there...
Probably the officials have been heavily bribe. Thats why its a scammer haven there. So it really is useless. The only way to take them down is by releasing this details to the press
That’s because they make around 600- 1000 calls everyday and thus their tone turns up like that. There is nothing Indian in it lol . Their accent turns up like that in few weeks.

I sent this video to my fiancé as he works at Santander, he took it into work and the branch he works at watched it as part of their meeting. They also sent it to the other branch in the city to watch. It will hopefully help them so much to watch out for situations like this in their branches. Thank you xxx
0:39 Just take a second to really think about how the scammer is talking to the victim here. Knowingly about to devastate this man's life all while being all jokey and happy with him. That's not what you call a terrible person, that's truly a monster.
@@PaulVandersypen Then you are just as bad as the scammers. Most of these scammers in India don’t have a choice. India is a very populated country with a lot of poverty and a lack of well paid jobs. These scammers need these scams to get their commission so they can feed themselves and their family. So by just giving them death sentences rather than helping them out to stop them from scamming is shortsighted and deluded
@@FLAMEalan They always have a choice. Most of the tech giants legitimately have tech support centres in India because the cost of labour is so inexpensive. Plus, it has been shown that when offered legal jobs, the scammers never reply or follow through with the offered help. Maybe the struggle to feed families is real, but stealing, extorting, and ruining lives is not the solution. I stand by my opinion. Scammers should be eradicated. Would I like to see them turned into good, honest, people? Sure, but they don't want that. Does providing all the data on their crimes to cybercrime police do anything? No. That only leaves one solution. You don't like it, fine, but it is the *only* option left.
@@FLAMEalan On top of what I wrote below, your argument is nonsense. You are saying it is perfectly okay for criminals to be criminals because they are hungry? If that was remotely true, then jails around the world would be empty, or certainly far less populated. You are justifying crime, which makes your argument sound just as stupid as allowing these scum to live.
This reminds me of my 79 years old neighbor who live alone almost got scammed and was so stressed out he entered the hospital. I usually come over to his house to take care of his birds for him and he told me about about it so I was able to warn him about it. He almost drain his bank to pay for the supposed irs but thankfully didn't. He passed away 2 years ago and he gave his birds to me and donated all his possessions to charities.
I'm glad he had you to watch out for him. As an animal lover myself, it must have meant alot to know his birds were going to be in safe hands after he passed.
At times, it feels like I'm watching Animal Planet. "And here, the scammer in his natural habitat locks onto his new prey. He will spend the next twenty minutes attempting to feed. Little does he know, his plans are about to change"

The scammers get arrested in a very public way, and close the location. However, they are never tried or convicted. Bribing police and judicial officers in India rarely costs even a few thousand dollars at most. The scammers make millions, and when caught, the police in India simply want a cut.
Um no... He "falls victim" to their scam enough to let them connect to his computer and the he does a reverse connection after the scammer gives up on him and then Jim has anonymous remote access and he watches the next scams because he has no power other than to grab info and report
@JOHN LYONS Jim Browning plays the victim ,scam baits these call centres, Only if ,and i say ONLY IF the teknishan connects to Jims computer remotely then IF the teknishan sureptishislee steals the file marked /Passwords/Bank.Login/Chase.bank and then transfers the file from jims computer to the scammer computer when the scammer opens the file marked "Jims Passwords and bank login" it is possible he has stupidly given jim browning a reverse connection and remote access to jim . If the scammer did not steal the password file and open it it would not happen . Jim then basically begins recording the scammers PC for weeks ,he does not sit there 24/7 watching as I would , I suggest you search for "scammer revolt" on youtube his videos show how a person "Could" attack a scammers PC ,you could also google "Nanocore "
The thing that hits the hardest in these videos is when Jim asks the victims whether it not they sent the scammers money. You can feel the emotion in his voice when he asks the question.
Earlier this week, I saw this happening in my local supermarket. I was putting away my purchases at the kiosk when the woman behind me put ten Amazon cards on the counter. Fortunately, the sales-woman was on the ball and asked if they were Christmas presents or had someone rung her and asked her to buy them. It transpired that she had the scammer on her mobile phone at that moment, and was terrified that he could overhear what was being said. She said that she had been run by someone claiming to be from the Inland Revenue and wanted payment for outstanding taxes which could most easily done using Amazon gift cards. What amazes me is that she was in her 50s and seemingly quite intelligent. She had fallen for the scammer's patter completely. She was appalled at how easily she had fallen into this trap. It was time for a hot, sweet cup of tea in café when she realised how close she had come to losing £1000.
I was taken for $85 once by a completely random homeless guy on the street. A good con man can suck you in with a convincing tale and get you totally under his control, like hypnosis. Now that I've experienced it first hand I am extremely grateful to those who interrupt such a scheme.
@Mike Rotch-Wreeks it's very easy to spin that in a way that would make it more believable. For example, the agent will fix you tax problem if you give him a small donation. Once you bought into the idea that you are actually in trouble, you would go through a lot to fix it.
@@arikb : Nope. I would never deal through an agent. I am hard-wired to regard agents as parasites, even if I belived that the agent was a genuine agent. And no respectable agent would ask for payment with Amazon cards. If HMRC/IRS want to deal with me they must deal directly, and show me the figures.
I love how you don't just stop at messing with the scammers, but you straight up go out of your way to stop them from scamming others. Truly admirable, good sir.

There needs to be some kind of TV advert to educate these older people. This particular scam has like a million red flags in it. It's hard to imagine someone falling for it.
Education would help, but a lot of them would still fall for it. If a person has cognitive decline and gets confused easily in everyday life, even a bad scammer like this would be able to run circles around them.
@@randomnonsense2259 Definitely! My comment was meant as a counter to people who don't understand how anyone can be fooled by it. My dad is 73 and has a clear mind. Today he got a call from an unknown number, and he asked me to look it up. "I don't answer or call back unless I know who it is," he said. I was so relieved! It is easy to be scared/fooled by scammers, and awareness is the best defense. My dad's understanding of the threats out there means he's less likely to come into contact with them, and less likely to be fooled if they reach him. He'll do the grumpy old man thing instead, and tell them he doesn't want any!
@Good Ole Arky Gal How bizarre. I haven't watched a scam video for months and I watched Jim again 3 days ago, where he mentioned a couple of other RUclipsrs, Kitboga and scammer payback. So I've watched a lot of their stuff in the last 3 days and now I go and get a comment on a 4 month old Jim Browning video. It's almost like you knew what I was doing. You haven't hacked in to my computer have you? 😂 I agree, it is easy to fall for it. Especially with complicated issues like tech support. I had a situation about 12 years ago, where I typed my bank name in to Google and clicked on it, not realising that it had taken me to a scam copy of the bank page (now I know to check the URL). It asked for digits of my password to login as normal, which obviously failed. Then it said retry, but I didn't click on to the fact that they now asking for the alternative digits, which again failed, it then asked me to prove my identity by filling out my name and address. It all looked exactly the bank website at this point, so I didn't suspect anything. Fortunately the bank were already on to it and suspended my account in the back ground and explained what happened. If there had been public information adverts around that explained these things, I would have known what to check for. Either the government should do them or the banks/I.T. giants should do a collective advert.
It works, psychologically. It might also make the victim really angry at you, but if you get away with it (e.g. because the victim is out of their depth and in a mindset that has them thankful for any “help“ they get) it’s a really effective way of coaching them
Thank You for intercepting this scam Jim. I found it extremely appalling that scammers would target a 90 year old out of whatever money he had left to his name. There should be a special place in hell for those type of scammers.
I need to constantly remind me that having an Indian accent doesn’t automatically make you a scammer but these videos make it really hard for me. I used to work in a call center and my Mexican accent made it really difficult to make someone trust me, I can’t imagine how hard is for a legitimate Indian tech support agent to be trusted nowadays.
This is important. These monsters do not represent Indians as a whole and it's very important to remember the difference. I work at a legit tech support called center and our Indian branch cannot make outbound calls for this very reason and they hear INSANELY racist comments everyday.
It's so scary isn't it? My parents are in their 80s, and don't do much on the computer, and don't touch the internet at all - but they get scam calls all the damn time. They hang up on most of them, but my dad almost fell for a different one recently. They'd come door to door, and were trying to sell him on 'rendering' the outside of their house, claiming they would make it stronger and 'fix' subsidence (which the house isn't having a problem with). My dad was going to go through with it, at a cost of $15,000. He also wouldn't listen to me that it was a scam, and that a plastic coating sprayed onto brickwork isn't going to do a damn thing to foundations, but he was being stubborn. In the end I had to find the paperwork and call them behind his back, then put the fear of fucking god into them. I let them know that I knew it was a scam, had checked their website and reported them to Watchdog, and the better business bureau, and that I'd contact the police if they tried to prey on my elderly parents again. House never got rendered, they never got a penny. But it was so close!
My mother got a Social Security scam the other week. She told him he was full of sh*t, asked him where he was really calling from, and he hung up. Can't fool mama.
The Bank is keeping everyone's account information safe and that includes the scammers. The Scammers can NOT make any money if there were not so many IDIOTS out there. From the Bank's perspectives people are VOLUNTARILY moving money around. The Bank does CARE because the scammer is saying do NOT tell the Bankers anything because the bankers are hackers. Who would believe this nonsense from these scammers. What the hell??
I don't want to sound rude, but a 91 year old has probably few years left to live. It is more heartbreaking when a person with family looses everything
@@bardo0007 you dont know they have grandkids. And even so it's the old man that loses the money not them. I dont think it's better for an old person to be scammed than a younger person. I'm shocked the other bank wasn't interested in any information.. I was under the impression that banks were legally required to proactively investigate potential criminal activity (at least where I live)
After my first experience with a bank being particularly shitty (really stupid contract clauses and mobile banking issues up the ass) I just don’t really trust banks 🤷♂️
What are they gonna figure out when the dude is coached. I’d be insulted if my bank was questioning me. I do think that is stupid tho. From what I know banks don’t look at obviously legal funds. Hence he’s sending money not depositing it. Banks really only watch for money laundering as a legal requirement. Theoretically this is. It’s not beyond unusual for a bank to see transactions like this. 40k is a lot but not insane for the bank at all. I’ve had my grandparents wore me like 15-20k a couple of times for school. Not trying to sound like an ass. There are just many people with means and valid reasons to do things like this.

@tony smith You realize that these scammers feel justified in their thievery b/c they have a stereotype of Americans as rich and stupid. The amount of money these scammers steal is pretty good proof of it. But it's neither accurate nor fair to say that about ALL Americans! That's jacthing1 is saying. Just individuals, not entire races of people.
@tony smith You've been brainwashed by the right into thinking that calling out something that's /actually/ racist is bad. The /scammer/ sounds like a douchebag, the OP never said anything about an entire race. Joey, judging by the comment, also hates Arabs and Indians. That scammer was practically cackling at one point (when he was relaying the cover story about the "sister" and the "daughter"). I could hear it in his voice. And I also heard where he had to stop speaking a few times so that an overt cackle wouldn't slip out.
I don’t understand how people can have such a lack of guilt and shame to scam an elderly person. To me, it’s almost like scamming a child, and it’s especially evil when the person has dementia (my grandma has Alzheimer’s) The total lack of remorse in the scammers voice honestly makes me lose hope for humanity. Although I would still hate them, I would respect them a hell of a lot more if they had an unwritten rule to leave the elderly alone, but no, not only to they have no problem scamming the elderly, they actively target them. Legitimately makes me sick.
My grandmother's late husband was developing dementia for yearrs before it fully overtook him, and he was constantly bombarded by phone scammers. My grandmother was luckily retired so she would hear him start to give info and then stop him before he could have too much damage done. There were times where they got some money from them unfortunately.
Unfortunately, the elderly are the most likely to fall for these scams because of their age and lack of familiarity with computer systems. It sucks, but it makes what Jim does that much better.

Henri Hanninen: It may have something to do with how UK bank fraud liabilities are structured; in the US, bank customers generally have zero liability for most forms of fraud, so the banks here have a powerful incentive to set up robust fraud prevention and response measures- hence most US banks would likely accept the information (albeit without releasing anything to the third party fraud informant). It's possible that the threshold of fraud liability for UK banks is way lower, so that they would feel more comfortable in responding exactly the way TSB was reported to have acted.
@@abigailwildlife1322 Its not the population I was talking about, its the accent. I was born over 50 years ago in a European country, lived and grew up in Spain however... Here is the funny thing, when I speak Spanish you could not hear my original origin at all, and over the phone people spot me into a very specific country or portion of Spain. However, while in the US people place me as Cuban, or even Venezuela.... which is kind a funny but hey. Now when I speak English, you can clearly (still today) hear my original language out from behind the "English" curtain... nothing I can do or hide, its just how vocal cords work. They don't teach spelling, punctuation, grammar and proper speech in schools today. They're too busy with social movements and political correctness, something families and churches should be guiding our children in. If the liberals wanted to make a difference, they should be campaigning to allow mothers to stay at home with their children the first 4 years of the child's life if the mothers wanted to.
The banks should be onto these scams by now. It should be obvious that a person is being scammed when they see that the amount of money the person is attempting to send is the same amount of money that was transferred from one of their own accounts to the other. Then again, maybe it's not that obvious unless you've watched some of these videos.
A transfer of an amount into an account for the purpose of transferring elsewhere is a common and legit pattern. The banks are onto it, as evidenced by the amount of effort spent by the scammer into coaching the victims bank interaction.
To a certain extent they are onto some. I've had a few times the bank has cancelled my purchase and phoned me up to ensure it wasn't a scammer, wasn't a stolen card, and that everything was above board. Most recently a £400 purchase from an unknown company in Lithuania. Inside small circles the company is known for doing incredibly high quality work and the waiting list was incredibly long, but to a bank seeing repeated attempts to push increasing sums of money towards that company in the same week and I can definitely understand why the system automatically cancelled it temporarily pulled my card and flagged the purchase for a phone call. Annoying but entirely understandable and I'm glad the system is there. I have since taken to keeping some amount of straight cash in my house just in case my card gets pulled for any reason in the future, however. Wondering if I'm going to have to ask friends for groceries is something I'd rather skip next time.
My bank has recently changed their requirements for transactions between your own accounts - now it requires an SMS code, same as transferring to an external party does (whereas previously, no verification was required for transactions between your own accounts). I didn't know why they had chosen to do that at the time, but after watching this video it seems it may be targeted at foiling this type of scam.
Something like 2 factor authentication like are you getting a call about a hacker etc. If yes and they claim to be tech support dont log in and hang up

This boom of indian evil that happened in the past 7 years really needs to be something all of the elderly know about, its shocking how little the authorities care. I would say people in their 40s or 50s who fall for these scams are indeed naive, not being familiar with computers is one thing but trusting some indian on the phone without being a little sceptical is mind boggling, as racist as it is. I do feel sorry for people who work at legitimate call centers who have a strong indian accent.
These scam centres are mostly in India. While the Indian authorities do try to close these down they are brutally slow in most cases. If mainstream banks refused to used indian call centres, the Indian authorities might sort this problem out more quickly.
Overseas crime are always difficult to resolved. Indians are also scammed by them , but immediate action is taken because an Indian can report to cyber cell while foreigners can't. If Indian is scammed by outsider then no chance for Indian citizen to get back money.
The scammer is a parasite.

these scams are designed with the understanding that they'll only work on very gullible people, these call centers send out thousands of calls a day knowing they'll get money out of a few people who will fall for it
When scams are viewed through the lens of a spectator, it always feels this way, keep in mind that these scammers target people who are not technologically fluent / gullible / too trusting.
Imagine walking into a bank and you can't trust the cashier
@@updownbanana Unfortunately in many cases, even when a person suspects they might be being scammed, loss aversion is a powerful thing that the scammers will often employ when the victim starts to show skepticism.
I agree, it is easy to fall for it.
Hospitals should have this stuff in them so older people see this

It's heartbreaking to realise that people like the 91 yr old are losing everything. What must it do to them? You are a saint Jim
I don't want to sound rude, but a 91 year old has probably few years left to live. It is more heartbreaking when a person with family looses everything
@@albertssj25 Are you for real? What about his grand children ?
@@bardo0007 you dont know they have grandkids. And even so it's the old man that loses the money not them. I dont think it's better for an old person to be scammed than a younger person. I'm shocked the other bank wasn't interested in any information.. I was under the impression that banks were legally required to proactively investigate potential criminal activity (at least where I live)
After my first experience with a bank being particularly shitty (really stupid contract clauses and mobile banking issues up the ass) I just don’t really trust banks 🤷♂️
@@relser187 they buy and sell stocks with our money, i dont trust em either
@@relser187 I respect your feelings about the trust. I think the shitty parts though are like your fault. Unless you got a lot of money no bank will ever care about you.

It's called being /tolerant/ of people different to yourself. Spanish voices really grate on me, but I don't hate spanish people for that.

Man, this scammer's voice is particularly annoying. I'm so glad Jim's voice is nice and soothing. Lol
Even worse, when they dont succed they get mad and really nasty
My grandmother's late husband was developing dementia for yearrs before it fully overtook him, and he was constantly bombarded by phone scammers. My grandmother was luckily retired so she would hear him start to give info and then stop him before he could have too much damage done. There were times where they got some money from them unfortunately.
Unfortunately, the elderly are the most likely to fall for these scams because of their age and lack of familiarity with computer systems. It sucks, but it makes what Jim does that much better.
Just the elderly? How about those with mental and physical disabilities? Should they be scammed as long as the elderly are safe?
you dont understand how a lot of the rest of the world thinks. there are many different mindsets out there that we dont ever get to experience (often). many people in third world countries (most of india is poor) have some very shitty mindsets that justify their behaviour. they simply justify their actions even if they know its shitty by some nonsensical reasoning such as "who cares if you scam an old person, they are going to die soon anyways" or "they are a waste of space" etc. there are MANY of these mindsets like this out there that we dont often experience where we live.
and dont misunderstand me here, im not saying that this is for ALL people in third world countries, most people in third world countries have some of the biggest hearts youll ever see. but we live in a world of polar opposites. we have the best of the best and the worst of the worst everywhere, developed countries too (obviously).

I had a call from “Pamela Peterson from Florida”
Her Indian accent was so strong, could hardly speak English.
Unbelievable that people believe them
ROFLMAO, to be honest they truely think they speak clear English
tbf in the UK there is a high indian population
@@abigailwildlife1322 Its not the population I was talking about, its the accent. I was born over 50 years ago in a European country, lived and grew up in Spain however... Here is the funny thing, when I speak Spanish you could not hear my original origin at all, and over the phone people spot me into a very specific country or portion of Spain. However, while in the US people place me as Cuban, or even Venezuela.... which is kind a funny but hey.
Now when I speak English, you can clearly (still today) hear my original language out from behind the "English" curtain... nothing I can do or hide, its just how vocal cords work. I am neither timid about it, nor do I pretend or intend to hide my heritage at all (that would be silly).
Now what I was saying is that how can someone who clearly knows (he should at least) that he has a very thick Indian accent pretend to be called Peter Garbo and located in California? Come on now... pretending someone to believe that is either brain dead or totally ignorant.
The problem I have observed with scams of this kind is the 'pressure"... why you all think these guys talk fast, and put a lot of pressure onto the victim? Yes correct, have you ever thought clearly while under pressure? Being it at work, school, or in a car accident, you always miss important things and fail later on to clear them... except of cause you are a born skilled liar, that is the exception of cause.

The banks should be onto these scams by now. It should be obvious that a person is being scammed when they see that the amount of money the person is attempting to send is the same amount of money that was transferred from one of their own accounts to the other. Then again, maybe it's not that obvious unless you've watched some of these videos.
there are millions of transactions everyday it's impossible to track them all
A transfer of an amount into an account for the purpose of transferring elsewhere is a common and legit pattern.
If yes and they claim to be tech support dont log in and hang up
Thanks

@@colin-campbell Brain chemistry degrades as you age. The cholinergic & glutaminergic systems in the brain start their recession around 70 years old, around a solid 80% of people at this age are on gabaergic medication alongside an opiate, most frequently gabapentin & pregabalin which slow down the glutamate system even more. A 91 year old man is in no way naive, being elderly is the opposite of naivety. Old people are just more gullible because of how alone they are and are so desperate for human interaction. Clearly the case here with norman as if he had a family support network he would most likely not have his pension stacking up while he rots away. Less acetylcholine with age = less critical thinking & problem solving, only a small amount of people in their 90s aren't amnesiacs, we all need to spend more time talking with old people, i have such respect for care takers who keep them company.

I said they deserved a portion of the blame.
