That's actually very important, companies can't usually record without telling you .but that works both ways. Of course In the UK you can record any call without telling them though I know it's different in America.
you should disguise a linux machine as windows and watch them struggle
A couple of other scambaiters have done this before. You should check out Lewis’s Tech’s videos, he did this with Kali and Mint.
Get an old copy of Lindows/Linspire and tell them it's a new Windows prerelease from Microsoft.
@@jbird4478 Because the scammers have a script they follow to 'prove' that there are issues with the victims PC. They can point at a struggling event in event logs, run pointless command prompt commands, or other means. What matters is that they're all Windows exclusive programs/services. It's essentially like you were tasked to drive a car, you get to location and they give you a truck instead, and you need to look like you're confident and experienced when you've never driven a truck before.

That gave me my biggest laugh in a week. The scammer should never know less about the scam than the victim!
Thank you for dedicating so much of your time to these scam videos. I work in the credit card department of a major bank and these videos help me help so many vulnerable customers.
@Henhen Sings Depends. I know in the US the standard practice for most banks is to cover the fraud/lost money and then investigating. But some banks (usually smaller credit unions) can require a police report, paperwork, etc before they put the money "back" (ie give the client money to cover what they lost) in the account. Also, banks don't *have* to do that.
I also think I remember reading somewhere (or hearing somewhere) that (in the US) a victim can't be held responsible to money taken out in their name (ie if your identity is stolen and a debt collector tries to collect on it - you can take them to court).
It often doesn't help very much because by the time you report it/realize what happened, the damage is already done to your finances and credit. And most of these laws are for if someone else steals your identity and you were unaware of it/not the one who made the expense/took out the loan/etc, not if you yourself went to the bank, withdrew your own money, and handed it over seemingly willingly.

I haven't used Avast, or any anti-virus software, for a long time and have yet to have any issues, as Windows' built in defender software does the job just fine.
@@randomnpc445
It's not even really Windows Defender doing the job, it's you being a competent computer user (don't even have to be an epic hacker dude, just basic knowhow and common sense). I imagine people now are using the same small number sites from big companies (Amazon, Facebook, Google/RUclips/Gmail, etc.) and almost nothing else, and don't need to be installing 50 random untrustworthy programs and browser extensions on their PCs to do all these little things (phones and web-based applications have taken over that role, which is great for security in general), so the attack vectors are vastly diminished.
I think nowadays, you really have to go out of your way to end up in trouble.

I wouldn't hold onto that long, as if Linux/Linux-GNU/Whatever ever gets to be the popular, most used system in any big country, as a rule of malware making is to infect as much people as possible, and it's more likely you'll infect lots when you make a virus tailor-made to exploit whatever OS's being used the most... and add to the fact that there's malware for both Classic MacOS and OSX... this isn't a thing unique to Windows itself. Don't get me wrong, Linux is great as a test-tube open-source environment, and is good for breathing new life to computers that have met an unfortunate fate, as well as having a very customizable desktop environment, but as for the need of an antivirus, it only got away with being touted as virus-free because Linux isn't all that widely used. Besides, you won't really even need much of an antivirus at all on any system if you know what you're doing on the internet. Open-source may be great and all, but at the end of the day, common sense is what matters.
