Don’t be thinking being the gray man is the best way to go. It’s one option and sometimes the better option. Sometimes it’s better to project power, showing people that you are able and ready to bring the fight. It’s important for you to be able to identify those times.
Excellent point. Great video idea. Putting this into my queue right now. The "Anti-Grayman Strategy". Thank you for that idea.
@@CityPrepping Yep, for some of us, "grey man" isn't an option. When you're built like Shrek, you're better off embracing the green and just projecting to people that you aren't to be f***ed with.
If you're walking in a bad neighborhood you will be noticed and might as well look like you're not an easy target. Age is a factor too - seniors seem to be targeted in some situations.
*Yes, it is a balance. Although the primary objective of the Grayman theory is not to even come in to the consciousness of a would-be threat (assailant/LEO) in the first place, "Projecting strength" may be more effective when there is little or no crowd to blend in with OR when the potential threat is not a crowd, because a mob mentality stretches beyond reason & any projection of strength may be lost.*
*Ultimately, the smartest S.O.P. is Grayman should be the first effort, then evasion (which truly is a whole other skill for another discussion), finally projecting strength/power as a last resort. Then again, not everyone is smart & common sense is no longer common practice.*
*Liberty = Peace & I pray you all always enjoy both!*
@@SuperUncleRyan interesting seeing this take from the other perspective. I’m all about being the grey man and being inconspicuous/unassuming. I feel it’s my only/best option, being 5’4” 130 or so lbs. Athletically I’m pretty fast, but it’s important to know your strengths and weaknesses. Going up against shrek wouldn’t be my first choice. 😂 I prefer being unassuming on the daily because I’m able to do things and make my moves with no one really even giving it any thought. Nothing to see here people. But, there’s pros and cons to everything of course.
“Your number one option for personal security is a lifelong commitment to avoidance, deterrence, and de-escalation.”
- Marine rules for gunfighting
@Yacht Charter Be polite to everyone, but have your hand on a hammerless J Frame in your coat pocket.
If you don't have to be there, don't be there! Unless you live in a big city, by all means don't go there! Best way to not get caught up in a bad situation is don't be anywhere near it in the first place.
I would hope that the only reason someone would have to get be in stealth mode in a big city is because they live there, or were caught there while visiting or traveling through. 80% of the US population lives in the urban areas, so this video pertains to the majority of people.
Avoidance is thee best tactic, but when it’s not possible, then over-whelming violence is the next best option.
Or, as I learned long ago, the next best thing after presence of mind is absence of body.
*LAYER UP!*
*Dress in layered mismatched clothing (different colors, etc) in such a way that will allow you to strip off a piece of clothing in order to instantly change your appearance in the event you are pursued & the moment you turn a corner.*
A reversible jacket is another option.
I learned this years ago from a friend that was being pursued by the police. Yeah, we come from a shitty neighborhood.
I keep a solid shirt under a novelty shirt, but also keep a spare pair of pants and warbonnet stash jacket on me. A pair of cheap-looking hipster glasses, too. And a bonus shirt and jogging pants in the trunk.
@@josephcox7181 We know you have warrants! Just kidding, those are good Ideas. 💡
@@winebox primarily, because I work as a uniformed security officer, if anything happens, I don’t want to be wearing a bright blue uniform shirt or looking all tacticool. SHTF and I’m putting on two different shirts, changing into jeans, and stashing my bonus clothes and a few other items into my bag and ghosting across town to get home.
There was this man driving by as I was walking, and he slowed right down as he stared at me, to the point where he was barely rolling forwards. I tried keeping my head down trying to shrink & become invisible, but I think he picked up on it as though I was weak and shy so he continued even more to drive slowly and stare. So I had to change my tactic to the opposite. I stood up taller and looked straight at him in an aggressive manner.. and he quickly looked away and drove away immediately. Different approaches work for different types of people.
I've lived in some neighborhoods where you can get killed just walking down the street. The first thing you learn is how to walk. Quickly with purpose and try not to make eye contact. Nine times out of ten, eye contact is an invitation for some kind of hustle or confrontation. When strangers approach you, you never stop walking. You keep your eyes forward, say "NOT INTERESTED" and keep moving.
So your hood is flooded by PUAs

@Debbie Voice from Australia We can all see you have a deep love affair...with the person you see in the mirror.
Sometimes total avoidance is best as well. If you have any doubts about your ability to stay gray, stay away...
I carry a baseball cap and an old baggy sweatshirt in my get home bag. Being a woman in SHTF.... I will be trying to look like a man. Especially if I’m alone.
@Gman That might work here in Seattle 😂
I would be concerned this might draw even more attention to you as women usually move different to men and people might take a second look to check out “which one you are”.
Good idea. Don't forget your big assed concealed gun 👍
Just dress like a drag queen and most will ask your pronouns and you can tell them you are a he. That might actually work better these days! Crazy bizarre-o world we're in.
I found that I'm practically invisible on rainy cold winter days Wearing dull blue gray or dark color hoodie and jeans. I call it Structural blue Especially when standing next to urban infastructute like a piece of Seel I beam or near a train tracks I actually become part of the infastructute.
Another factor to consider is one's body posture. As you said in the video, it's become common to see people out in public hunched over their phones. A side effect of this and sit-down work is poor posture; pelvic tilt, rounded shoulders and a forward neck position. Just simply being someone who stands upright in a healthy, natural position is sadly enough to make you stand out in our society, as is being physically fit. Just something to think about.
I carry myself with good, upright posture and get asked if I’m in the military all the time hahaha
I agree 100%. Even the gait, the way you walk, the speed. In busy streets I find myself frustrated that I get frequently stuck behind slow walkers.
I bought a pair of camouflaged shorts but now I can't find them.
🤣
😁😂🤣🤣
I have the same problem with my magical invisibility bracelet.
Good one 🤣 mate 😌😌😌
My job doesn't allow camouflaged masks for the same reason.
Remember physical Strength is your most important prep, also have strong mental strength and you will have a better chance of surviving the collapse!!
Up to 90% will not survive the collapse by the end of 90 days.
Agreed, but it only takes 7 lb of strength to pull a trigger to activate the ultimate equalizer.
A loaded weapon beats all
Your mind is 100% the “best prep” and your greatest weapon against all threats.
As a person who is acutely aware that I have no military basic training, no arms training, and have limited camping or construction skills; and draining physical stamina as I've aged, I can understand the assumption that 90% of the people wouldn't survive, if they're like me. Still, I read, and I watch videos to give me ideas on how to work with what I've got. I hope that counts for something.
Being an older man, with grand children, I like using the generic or store bought reusable grocery bags. They are big enough to hide my range bag, so not even neighbors know when I going shooting. Also hides booze and items I don't ant noticed. I carry several of different colors in each vehicle and have spares in the house. Some old shop uniforms (pants and shirt) complete the "I ain't got nuthin" look.
A great companion video to this video is: "How to become a digital gray man, and how to avoid observation on the internet"
DuckDuckGo would be my first advice 😎
@Max A Million unfortunately, zuckerbergs cloud probably won't.
Leaving a comment on this video=too late!
You can get rid of all those social medias, you will still be identified!
Simple. Just have a username like “can I hit a million subs with no vids” and have an anime girl pfp.
I'm new to this prepping thing but this feels like one big excuse to LARP as Liam Neeson 🤣
LMFAO
Born Ultimatum has a great scene "Ross and Waterloo" where Jason is guiding a man by phone, who is being tailed, and helps him to hide in plain sight by tying his shoe, then waiting to move when the security cameras look the other way.
Great video! 👍
I enjoy watching those movies. I like them so much that I own all of them.
Do you yell at the screen during movies or tv shows where the person being watched or followed doesn't bother to change their appearance in any way? That drives me nuts. Come on, put on a wig, a hat, go to a thrift store and get a change of clothes. I think they don't change the character's looks because they think we're too stupid to figure it out, but wow.
I have the trilogy of the Bourne series.
Still watch it once in a while.
Not sure a movie like that would be made again.
I’m a retired LEO. I spent years as anti gray man and some as gray man. In an argument for each I think context, purpose, and location play a part. I remember once hearing an instructor say “If you don’t want to get eaten don’t look like food”. This is true of people by themselves, especially women. If you’re walking with your head buried in your phone oblivious to what’s going on around you, you’re easy pickings. But if you’re using situational awareness, walking with a purposeful stride, and making eye contact, the bad guy will likely search for an easier target. I think anti gray man is for normal times. But if you’re trying to hide in plain sight in a time of unrest, gray man is the way to go. Remember the first Police Academy movie when during the riot the police officer put on a sport coat and walked right by the rioters? Well probably most of y’all weren’t born. Stay alert, stay safe.
Yes the gray man!!!!! Someone who understands tactics as opposed to letting his ego be the base of his tactics. Everyone needs to understand the role of the gray man.
Gray men get killed all the same, only difference is you opponent wont respect you.
@@clm652 is it important for your enemy to respect you? I just want to win by any means necessary that's legal. When we fought the British in 1776 did we fight by the rules? Did the British respect us? Who won that battle by the way? This is about who wins and who loses. Sanctimonious people such as the British tend to lose. I'm here to win.
@@clm652 I've often had similar thoughts. The intense effort of production in one of these hi-qual videos is something best left uncritised. We'll do what we do. The observations made here may save a life. Granted; preppers that purchase arms to bury them in tubes ain't about shit. Stand up. I get your point. You're right. There are two approaches here. No disrespect, man.
@@50kArchipelagos damn right!!!
@@50kArchipelagos There are many more than two approaches. one, paints a bulleye on you, the other requires more effort to find you.
Secondly, this is less about (buit still useful for) SHTF, and more about today's current world.
Using whats he is talking about can prevent a child abduction, or a mass shooting.
The devil is in the details.
I spent my childhood and adolescence trying to become the grey man to deter bullies, I know it's commonly know as camouflaging, now it's a skill😉
I learned a lot of this as a kid as I was bullied a lot. It prepared me for life later.
Same. I became a watcher. I knew so much about everyone. Lol
That's so funny I thought I was the only one🤣
No doubt, looking at these videos I wonder why people need to be told about this stuff as it seems like common sense to me.
@@ChiefSmackahoLLC probably because of people like me, who were unable to figure out how to hide from the school bullies. (I'm ok now, but I hate ''socializing'')
Your clips of NYC in your video should go into a museum for the way Manhattan once looked before Covid, shut downs, and the wholesale destruction of middle class life.
sad, isn't it?
Thank you for sharing this information. I learned a lot. I am 70 yrs old and know I will not survive but my family is preparing for what is to come.
Pouty Gorilla do not assume anything. You may be better prepared than you realize. With age comes wisdom, so do not easily give up! Your example may be the strength and encouragement your family or another individual needs to survive! All the best.
Bless you for your compassion❣
Idk..... older people survive too, usually with the aid of caring allies. That’s very selfless of you to figure you won’t survive, but still prep anyway to pass along info to your family. You’re more protected than you suppose by the universe..... well wishes
Hi PG, I think 70 year olds have brains and can work on their fitness and stamina. Street lights have cameras now too.
Local sports team shirts are important
I do this when traveling

@@Gaviid that's not true, the other day girl told me I have face for the radio. That's a compliment right?
That is a good thing. They want your money
You should make one on how to find work off the radar, like when all jobs require vaccinations or something similar, when people have to make personal choices but make a living.
I’m a gray man...slightly overweight, my dark hair now graying. My square jaw now rounding, and chiseled chin, now double. Used to be noticed by the ladies, now often overlooked even by old ladies. I even have to remind my boss that I’m still one of his employees. I’m an older guy, often dismissed by the new generation as not “woke” yet, and possibly a pushover if it came to it...but what they don’t realize, is I’m still in better physical shape than most, and whether it be the younger or older ladies, or a young buck who thinks he could easily push me around...if it came to it - they would all be very surprised. 😜👍
@Buttercup just look for the quiet guy in the corner that you’d glance at, and then you look again he’s gone-or you’ll see his backside heading out. That’ll be me.
@Buttercup smile, eye contact say hello, ask a question to trip me up...go from there.
Acting like you belong there is probably the most crucial and most difficult part of Gray man.
I know acting like your bottom wasn't drilled the night before is tough for you by how awkward you walk

We are all gray men and women already. Not everyone has military style gear and bulletproof vests, but I can assure you that everyone out there can get their hands on jeans and a t shirt. Basically, just don't suddenly stop dressing and acting like a normal person and you'll be fine.
Very good video .
All true ! I was the grayman for 12 yrs busting shoplifters .
I can tell by the way and speed someone walks .
When to go gray:
(1) When you are doing something you don't want to be questioned about, possibly to preserve opsec, because your actions might be of questionable legality (moving a self defense item to or from an urban workplace), you are finding out if your wife has a boyfriend, etc.
(2) When things are getting tense, but are not yet at a crisis point, and you want to remove yourself form an area before serious things begin to happen. Consider an event happening that is just building towards a "peaceful protest" - you want to move through the area without being targeted by the early groups within the mob.
(3) When things are happening and the area is being locked down by authority systems and you want to move through without being stopped (no one wants to try to explain their EDC to an officer when there was a terrorist attack two blocks away that you are having to skirt around).
(4) When you are moving through dangerous territory (you may drive through some shady areas on your daily commute which, if having to hoof it to your suburban home would put you places you would not normally choose to be, especially in a crisis).
Gray isn't about avoiding Joe Blow's notice - he is irrelevant. It is about avoiding the notice of predators, mobs looking for targets, and officers who might detain you.
The hardest part of being gray, however, is concealing gear.
Bags, meaningful firearms, body armor - these are things that are difficult to conceal. Finding ways to make those things vanish is always going to have issues of control (briefcase is easier to steal than a backpack and holds less), fit, space, etc. Knowing your bug out routes well to trim your gear as much as you can (so you only have what you will need rather than what you might need - which goes against the prepper's nature - is key) and, if necessary, having your gear at waypoints rather than on you the whole way will be helpful. Just doing things like noting all the water spots on your route so that you can not carry any water, but just a lifestraw can cut weight and bulk massively.
Good video. Personally, I try to avoid urban areas, period, unless it's absolutely necessary. Another term for this is "Hiding in Plain Sight" and it's an art that is taught in certain circles. Be fluid in your actions, be confident, aware and project Power. Nothing attracts predators like weakness.
The best way I can say that I agree with you is this:
I got a Navy Blue cover for my body armour, so I can wear my ENIBA body armour without tactical camo
I got invisible inserts for my baseball caps to give me head protection
I sewed kevlar anti-cut material on the inside of my top.
When I bug out I want to look like a disgruntled workman, forced to go on-the-move in his work clothes.
I dont want to look like Tactical-Keyboard-Warrior-Bro, with full camo and a plate holder ... even though that is what I am.....sadly
Excellent advice, especially in these times of civil unrest. Trouble could be just around the corner. Thank you!
Another informative, clear & concise video to help us survive! Thanks & stay safe.
I have been the Gray man for a decade or more! works awesome for me here in Oz!
The key to being the grey man is to not get caught in an environment you dont normally frequent.
Yes, because you won't know how to blend in quickly enough.
Observant people fixed in that environment will notice.
So frequent the environments you may need as an alternate path.
The key to being a grey man is not commenting and telling people something is key

I have never been noticed not in school or when I am out in about no one picks on me or ask me questions and usually dont remember me doing something or being somewhere well I want to be that way and I have naturally have been that way since I was a child. I have never been asked to buy something buy a seller or asked to fill out something.

All this information is good you have to do what's right for the situation you're in
Great video!
i think becoming a gray man is not having a bug out location in the hills and or driving around or bugging out. The real gray men will have houses under their houses. IE big bug out basements.
I think you covered this in the last video but remember to take note of distinct landmarks that can be used to orient around, should you be lost or need to lose a pursuer. The environment can be your best friend in these situations
Great video again
Very well done sir
As for glasses, I had a friend that lost an eye but would put a prescription lens on that side anyway to disguise that fact. Also the tops were slightly tinted. Could never really tell what he was looking at unless you were speaking directly to him. He was stealth as hell too.
Stealthy because he keeps an eye out...😉
Basic rules: Just operate in a normal manner. Look like you belong. Be humble in humble situations. Be the most dangerous in dangerous situations.
Yes, shoes!! Or hair style. I always pay attention to those and clothes and perfumes.

What is tough these days, is that I am a lean, fit, healthy male. People often notice/look at my body, and then my face. They are used to seeing grey fat, obese, out of shape, people everywhere.
In which case to better fit in by consuming McDonald's for 3 meals, (fit snacks in too). You'll be looking like the average hamburger American in no time!
Wear a puffy coat in winter.
Or a suit jacket or open flannel shirt in summer over a tshirt.
Yes I love in a verrrrrrry low income predominantly blue collar and yes minimally educated part of CA where the norm is FAT FAT FAT but everyone thinks they're effing ghetto fabulous they can barely get their Jersey over their gut, or in and out of their Honda Civic. I'm not perfect but I prefer walks and healthier food, so for that I always stand out. It's sad to see so much apathy and gluttony but I try not to let it get me down.
@HOOCH D ikr, a legend in his own mind 👍😩
Then don't dress to show off your body. Dude, it's not that difficult.
Also, much of the software is going the way of the gait due to masks on facial rec. Your gait is more difficult to conceal.

Just as local team hats and shirts help you to blend rival hats and shirts will make you stick out . Becareful to much of a thing will make you noticed just as fast as not enough . This is why notice of environment is key to blending in

I don’t think an angry mob will not notice an object that’s trying to blend in with a church group. I think a gray man would not be open to dumb conversations or would have an opening into “cool” like behavior.

I wonder often about my country neighborhood: on Day One of SHTF, it’s too early to pull out the maps showing perimeter defense and discuss radio codes, and a security schedule. At least I think it is...and Day Two and Day Three. Let the neighbors realize that and then it’s time to help out however I can. Thoughts?
If you wait until day 1, it may already be too late. I'm a pragmatist. If I have to risk my life to POSSIBLY save someone else who will just drag me down afterward, then you're probably on your own. It's like the disaster movie I watched where the 11 year old kid never listened and risked getting killed, only to be saved by an adult. He fell down a steep snowbank because he wouldn't stay put as told; he fell off the end of the last train to civilization.... When he fell off the train, they should have just waved goodbye and good luck. Instead, they all jumped off the train. Several of them died later, all because the stupid worthless kid couldn't obey. If anyone is going to be a detriment to survival, they can piss off.
@Pete Johanssen Hey Pete, thanks for reply. My family is a half-mile from major four-lane highway, and we are five minutes from small city/large town of 30,000. So geographically we not in good spot but mentality of our community, with farmland, acreage, hunting woods, livestock etc, vs “city folk” is miles apart.
What if you have a military jacket just to be wearing it? There was a girl that wore one when we were in school. She didn't wear it all the time but she would sometimes.
Do you think there’s a size restriction on being a gray man? I stick out no matter what I do. I’m 6’5” and almost 300 lbs. I’d like to blend in
