The thing I hear more often than chemical vs mineral spf for melasma is to use tinted spf because the iron oxides offer a different type of protection. Also it's more important to find an spf you love and will use everyday. If you can't stand mineral spf and aren't consistent, it's better to use a chemical spf you will use and reapply.

Can you use hydroquinone on lips. I have post inflammatory hyperpigmentation (from dry lips....sun etc) on edge and corner of my bottom lip? Tried cyspera, very light pass of lase med and skinmedica even and correct. It has lightened over the past 2 years but has not disappreared.
4% hydroquinone is giving me too much redness, will my skin get used to it? Also, if I'm using hydroquinone, what do I do with my retinol cream? Do I use them together? isn't that too much? How do you actually create a melasma fighting routine with the above ingredients?
Thank you so much for these informative videos!! It would really help if you can also give us an example of a skincare routine using these ingredients and whether it's okay to use them on top of another etc!
Can we layer them in the order you mentioned… except for hydroquinone and alpha arbutin where you mentioned to use when not in hydroquinone. All other products can we layer them ar night?
I would like to hear more about benefits of tranexamic acid in 5% mix with niacinamide at 4% combined in serum. Highly popular in Europe the combination is made by a number of swiss and French cosmetics. Could you address?
Dear Shereene, do you ever tan? As in go swimming in the ocean, enjoy the day by the pool? Hydroquinone is the only ingredient I have never used, as I prefer over the counter products. I like the Faded topicals serum the way it has many of these ingredients. For fading hyperpigmentation, is exfoliation not necessary as well? I use a lactic acid serum 3 times a week, as I thought it is beneficial for PIH
Hyperpigmentation is frustrating to deal with. For few years i have diligently used Timeless Vit C , niacinamide (in moisturizer) , tinted spf 50, 0.1 % Tret, and a whole tube of Topicals Faded (which has many of the ingredients mentioned in video). No change in the sunspots on my cheeks or melasma mustache. I will not use HQ because i dont want to deal with chance of rebound hyper pig. Now i might ask my derm for prescription azaleic acid to see if that helps
I have a similar situation. I’m considering lasers at this point. I don’t think topicals are working for me, and I’ve spend quite a bit of $ already with no results.
I do a laser 2x year (Lumecca works great for me) and religiously apply SPF 50 or higher. Tretinoin at night. That's it. Cheaper than buying all the products with all the ingredients. Lasers are amazing.

Hello, I’m a little late to the party. I have a lot of hyperpigmentation, I’m in my mid 20s and would really like some help or guidance. The only time that I have had the most success with dealing or “Getting rid of” my hyperpigmentation was at the beginning of my 20s. I was using Clinique everything (still am), but the magic product was their dark spot correcting serum. Throughout that journey I stupidly decided to try a different product that was highly recommended by someone, it was the urban skin rx dark spot corrector, but I did not know that it had retinol, and I was using that product 2x a day until my skin began to get extremely itchy and peeling, ever since, my skin has not been the same and that “glass skin” that I had with using Clinique is gone. I would really like some help. I know that you mentioned a lot of ingredients needed for hyperpigmentation. Could you please do a video of what a skincare routine for hyperpigmentation would look like and what products to use? I could really use the visual to guide me. Thank you!!
Why do most of the creams serums moisturizers emphasize that they have NIACINAMIDE as their first ingredient and you named it last. And the second one Alpha Arbutin

I am not sure how to treat this as the dermatologist that did the laser treatment didn't really explain anything and I honestly thought it would disappear after the laser treatment but nope, actually it looks worse. I need help if anyone reading this could tell me how to treat this. Maybe an led mask might help?

@@sarahowick5456 thank u for your reply! I have naturally tan skin and lasers tend to create more hyperpigmentation at the hands of inexperienced technician. I guess i need to search for provider who is experienced with POC
This is a good point. I wonder if there is a connection to any health conditions or vitamin deficiency that might be causing the stubborn hyperpigmentation
@@sarahowick5456 does it hurt? What’s the downtime like?
Thank you very much ❤❤
I'm struggling with my hyperbigmentation and I got lost trying different products. Your video is what I needed 😢❤
I've been prescribed tranexamic acid for extremely heavy bleeding during periods.
Never thought it was a skincare ingredient 😐
Hi Dr. After watching multiple videos of yours about hydroquinone, i wanna use but im not sure about the ingredients they combined I've got one which contains 4% of hydroquinone, 0.025% of tretinoin and 0.1% of mometasone . Would it be safe or get good results of it ? Are they good combinations? Please
Thank you!!
@Dr. Idriss, we support you because you keep it real with us and you’re not about pushing products for incentive! Thank you! True NYER ❤
Why do most of the creams serums moisturizers emphasize that they have NIACINAMIDE as their first ingredient and you named it last. And the second one Alpha Arbutin

@shereeneidriss can you let us know if we can use hydroquinone together with Retenoids at night?
Does hydroquinone should be used only at night or both AM/PM
Where do we leave Glicolyc acid for skin texture?
Thank you!
Would be great to make a video about home devices! They are so many and it's hard to tell what is really effective and what is just a waste of money... For example, the light therapy is everywhere right now, I'd love to hear your thoughts on that. Thank you so much 💜
There is a video she made on LED devices. January 2022
I have an LED device video 😀
Do any of these help freckles? LYSM.
Your city air would probably kill u before the hydroquinone does. 😂😂😂😂😂
I am 47 and have poikiloderma of crivatte (not sure if thats spelt correctly), Ive tried laser which did reduce some pigmentation but its now splotchy brown and red all over my neck. I had beautiful skin up until a couple of years ago. I live in Australia but have ALWAYS used sunscreen everyday ever since a dermatologist told me this when i was in my early twenties. I am not sure how to treat this as the dermatologist that did the laser treatment didn't really explain anything and I honestly thought it would disappear after the laser treatment but nope, actually it looks worse. I need help if anyone reading this could tell me how to treat this. Maybe an led mask might help?
Hello, please for the love of god. I know that wearing sunscreen is important. But please give options for people who don't wear sunscreen. There are many people who don't including myself, for numerous reasons. So what do we do? I've been using vitamin C serum when I have to drive somewhere in my car. And avoid sun exposure as much as possible. Working nightshifts help with that. Thank you.
NO HYDROQUINONE!!
It gave me white spots all over!!
Hi dr shereen... i am so frustrated with my melasma.. i have none of these on my face until pandemic using facemask and steaming.. what are the schedule or combinations of the top 10 ingredients mentioned in this video to be used in one routine. Or do i have to use it all in one routine? Thank you.
what should i do with brachial melasma? or pigmentation on my arms? anybody knows? please help! thanks in advance❤
Where do you get Hydroquinone? NO ONE makes it anymore. I remember using it 20 years ago with great success, but now it has disappeared in the US.
Can I use the Major Fade Serum with my vitamin c in the morning? With my tretinoin at night?
It can be overwhelming. Use the vitamin c with sunscreen and save the majorfade serum for further use. But if you're rich🤑 then sure go!
Okay sunscreen how do you apply sunscreen over top makeup during the day???? I would use it but how do you do it while at work with makeup on....???
Dr Idriss can you do a video on Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS). Great content 👌
What are the 3 multi ingredient serums Dr Shereene has recommended from other brands (not hers)? I am outside of the US/Can and cannot get her brand and the links do not work for me. Any help would be appreciated
So flushing from my skin care products can make my melasma worse? That happens everytime I do my skincare routine usually with vit c and other things how can I stop that
