Thanks Matt. A couple years ago I narrowed my decision down to these 2 bikes and chose the XT250. For me I think it was a good decision. I like the better top speed and the bigger gas tank for when I go on a long, remote ride where there are no gas stations. I love the XT for my style of riding, but my main complaint is something you noticed - the seat isn't comfortable. I find myself standing on the pegs a lot, which is probably the better technique on the rough jeep trails in any case.
I love the TW!!! What I love is the slower speed torque on trails. As much as I love the fat rear tire, the traction sucks IMHO I'd rather have something that got more bite. I also wish the TW had fuel injection instead of carb for easier maintenance. Oh, and I prefer the digital screen on the xt . I have both, I go to the TW 9x out of 10 for off-road.
Hi Matt. I tried for years to get a TW200 and finally had to settle as I found a low mileage excellent condition XT250. As fate would have it, my neighbour asked me to ride his new to him TW200 to his home. The bike showed up at the local Yamaha dealer 2 weeks later😩! Happy for him as he got a hell of a deal on it. Anyway I can easily reach the ground on both of them with my 30 inch inseam. I did change my front sprocket up one tooth to 16. Great on the highway at 65 mph plus speedo is much more accurate. The XT being a larger motor does have noticeably more power. It rides nicer due to the extra suspension and lower unsprung weight because of the much lighter tires. As far as being more sophisticated, only compared to the T-Dub😂. It’s a really basic air cooled motorcycle. Do I prefer it over the T-Dub? On pavement for sure if the speed limit is over 50 mph. If I didn’t already own 5 Yamahas and a Road King I’d still be looking for a T-Dub. Love your channel Matt. Also one of your local dealers should loan you a XT for the exposure. Win win. Thanks for your time Matt. Appreciated. If I didn’t live thousands of miles away I would lend you mine just to see the reviews.
I have the XT225, similar enough to the 250 abet 6spd..and find it very versatile, I have larger bikes but the little guy fills a need..If i lived in a wetter or sandier/muddier place, the TW may do better..but I like the 21/18" wheel setup on the XT..
Two great bikes ! Both were in scope in my search when I was looking for a good dual sport. I found a great deal on a XT250 first ... so it's in my carport now. It's a great bike ... but so is the TW. The TW seems to hold it's value better ... much more of a cult following ! (Good if you're selling ... not as good if you're buying). Good content buddy -- keep up the good work 👍👍
Both are fantastic bikes with different purposes and I would love to have one of each. The ground clearance and turning radius on the XT is very impressive.for that type of bike. I have a WR250R, so I can't justify purchasing an XT, but I would buy one in a heartbeat. As for the TW, my girlfriend has one, so I can go out and have fun on that when she's at work.
Good timing. Being the bottom feeder that I am, I'm looking at the used market. I've owned two TDubs, sold them about 10 years ago. Loved the bikes and recently started looking for another used one. Holy cow, the used prices for TW's have skyrocketed! A well-used two thousand dollar TW is now thirty-five hundred! So, I started looking at the used XT250's and I'm liking what I'm seeing. They are depreciating much faster than TDubs. I found a used 2017 on Marketplace for $3200 with less than a thousand miles. Checking it out tomorrow.
Good comparison, Matt. I’ve had both bikes. I really liked them both, but I sold the XT and kept the TW. The TW is unique and no other bike feels like it.
XT250 is an amazing bike, I wonder if the DRZ650 is going fuel injected this year which is really the only competition the XT250 has for its bike design Also XT250 is not designed for road, its like the TW200 where it can be on the road by function, not design. It's also a backwoods beater.
If u want a 2 wheel ATV, get the TW. If u want a dual sport , get the XT. I got TW to use as 2 wheel ATV. Hunting, going off trail thu the woods. Relax riding, chill, check out the scenery, camp ground RV bike. My XR 650 L is my dual sport. Ripping n the woods with buddy riding DRZ 400. Just legal enough to jump from trail to trail without trailering.
I guess im old school. For me modern means absolutely nothing. And also to be honest more comfort doesnt really mean that much either. The questions i ask is. 1 which is more reliable? 2 which is easier to work on in a pinch? For me having owned neither but after a lot of reaserch on both the tw wins.
Great presentation. I'm a bit tall so for me the XT would be the obvious choice, even though I like the looks of the TW more, probably because of its chunky tires which makes the bike look like it can float over almost any terrain. These days I ride a few bikes, one of them my KLX230, which I'd say directly compares to the XT250. I understand your love for Yamaha, but taking a closer look at the KLX isn't so wrong, in fact it is priced a good lot less that the Yamaha XT250, mostly due to its less complex build. Performance is similar, both are about the same size and weight. I really hope that you two become more friends with each other ;)
Yeah I see what you mean! My kid really likes the KLX and he's been taking it all over the place. I'm still trying to find a way to make it more comfortable for me.......maybe I just need to lose more weight.
Seems that the TW is an ideal bike for a slightly timid wife, or a man that simply wants to putter. Either bike is good in conjunction with a pickup truck, to bring the motorcycles to back country riding instead of driving the bike to an off-road adventure. I had a Yamaha 225, and found that I COULD scare myself off-road with it, although it was not the best in deep sand, a bigger engine would have been easier. I am wondering, though, if I would be better off adding turn signals to a WR250F, and licensing that. Seems like a better bike, but $4000 more is a problem.
That TW200 is a great bike! I have had two or three of them in the garage for the last 4 years. My wife loves it and my kids really enjoy them as well. I recommend them!
Nice video! Didn't know the xt is fuel injected. Also There's a guy that does good xt content his channel is- square helmet takes it in some nasty terrain check him out
The XT, being fuel injected, if it failed, you could not fix it on the trail. The fuel pump costs over 400.00. I have not herd of any problems with the pump, but it could happen. Also I don't know of any large fuel tanks offered like on the CRF 300. The TW has a carb, so no worry about a fuel pump or injector problem, and you can get a larger fuel tank for the TW. The TW has very good aftermarket support like Pro-Cycle. Nothing against the XT, but I would take the TW hands down. I would buy a CRF 300 LS over the XT. More power, better aftermarket, and low seat height with the LS model.
Great comment Eric! The TW also has parts from Rocky Mountain ATV/MC and from Bradley Performance that can make the TW200 really into anything you want!
how about HP/Tq on both?
I'll work on it. I do have the numbers for my TW200. Here is a video I made of the TW on the dyno ruclips.net/video/QDZBmQ_I8t4/видео.html
@@MOBStreet83 thanks.. the TW is some power house, huh. Probably all she needs to have a good time.

Good stuff Matt, love the TW but have always had a thing for the XT as well, both great bikes! And here comes 10K subs!!!
Thanks Brother! I would like to have both of them!
Matt you about to hit 10K my friend!
Trying to get there! Congrats on passing the 2k mark! Keep it going
@@MOBStreet83 Thank you! Took 4 years to hit 1,000 and then only 3 months to get to 2,000! Crazy stuff!

They're great bikes Bruce! I hope it works out.
I feel like they would sell more TW's if they went back to 80's 90's colors.
I would like to see the Black and Red of 89' again!
Good comparison, Matt. I’ve had both bikes. I really liked them both, but I sold the XT and kept the TW. The TW is unique and no other bike feels like it.

I have "heard" the DRZ400 was getting FI for 2025. Don't know if it's true or not.
Tw200 by far the best bike. It is amazing
I'm a fan of all three of mine!
Had a 2018 TW . Loved it. The only reason I traded it is because my right knee is ,bad, can't bend it.
Sorry to hear that. I am huge fan of my TW's as well.
I have a TW. The XT has always been tempting. I wish it was lighter.
I found it kinda funny the TW was lighter than the XT!

Good to know. Thanks!
Take a TW200, pull motor, cut and section frame for a Tenere 700 motor.....
Yes please!
What year did Yamaha start using fuel injection on the XT?
Not too sure, but it's been a while.
@@MOBStreet83 what about the disc brake upgrade any clue?
Good grief! Does Yamaha not have anything but gray paint?!! How bout a blue one or yellow and black?!!!
Well, I don't know for sure.....for these two bikes there doesn't seem to be much. 😀
Does it come in black ?
@@loudtaste1046 The 2021-2023 Came in Black and Gray
TW . I’m a Simple Man 👍🏻
Me too!
Why are they so similarly price? You are getting so much more from the 250. Honda has the XR150l. And it’s similar to the tw200 and is only 3k
The XR150 is nothing like the the TW200
Hey Yamaha, bring back the XT 550.
I'll second that.
❤
Thanks James!
🤟🖤🤟
Thanks Atilla!
The TW is SLOW AF. Bad suspension, weird handling, HEAVY HEAVY HEAVY. It is an old dude RV bike.
Heavy, really?!? Since when is 278 heavy? The XT is heavier at 291. Coming from the Harley world the TW is way light.
Ktm 500exc 250lbs and 60 hp.
Honda XR650R 273lbs and 60hp.
Honda CRF450L 260lbs 50hp.
Tw200 280lbs and 12hp.
My bad 13hp and 9ft lb tq.
That's right, that's what it is! If you want a race bike, don't buy a TW.
Stupid yamaha, should just use 250 engine for both bikes.
That would be cool
I agree but carbureted for the TW. With the sprocket and transmission, Idk how much of a difference that it’d make.
