Agreed. I have gone up too many hills where it just didn't have the power and leaves you in a tight spot getting down. I still love the comfortable ride and the way it sways on the road though. It sounds like they raised the price recently as I thought it was around 4000. 4600 is too much, it is too close to other more capable bikes. A year old WR250R for instance. Thought they are not quite the same. One problem though is that if they redesign it, I believe they have new emissions requirements that add power robbing equipment, weight and cost. We are stuck with this design because of it.
I saw this again and got to thinking about the 4 gallons and the brakes. It gets about 80mpg, and if I recall correctly has a 1.2 gallon tank. So safely about 100miles per tank. I could see squeezing in 2 to 2.5 gallons, but more than that would be huge in that space. The result is a long ride off road, or even on, on a bike of this size. I am guessing that carrying that extra 25lbs wouldn't be desirable most of the time either. So I think it is probably better to carry it some other way for a long trip so it doesn't adversely affect the rest of the time. On the brakes, the general sentiment is that disk is better, but honestly I have the older design with drum front and back, and they have been maintenance free for 12K miles of off road use. They are protected from damage and don't wear out as fast. Yes disk can stop the wheel easier, but the drums lock up the wheel fine too. So not sure I would want, particularly the back, to be disk. I would guess the back is only half worn on mine and still has a long life.
@@MOBStreet83 Right on!! I’m should be picking up a ‘21 here within the next month or two to bring it up to Alaska with me for the summer to go exploring!! I was up there last summer and it KILLED me not having a bike.. and I noticed most of the locals had TW’s because the ground is so spongy due to the permafrost and the TW’s tires just float on top of it!
@@Rick_Sanchez_C137_ I haven’t made it down that way!! I work the summer in Denali.. really looking forward to exploring the Denali Highway this year on a TW!!
I ended up selling my Tdub last weekend, and picked up a 2023 XT250 yesterday, So far the XT fits me better. Hit the trails right off the bat and proceeded to break her in properly going down in a mud hole and breaking off half of front brake lever. Ironically, my hand guards came in later in the day. Enjoying it so far.
Tdub for life! I was able to secure some time at my local university's math laboratory and proposed this question to them: "What is it about the Yamaha TW200 that's sooooo desirable?" After about 3 days of analysis with the available data given to them they then sent it to their department of anthropology. After 2 days that department then sent it to their engineering department. 3 days later engineering sent the data to the history building. History spent only 1 day before sending it off to athletics. 5 days later athletics sent it back to the math lab where my original contact who let me in gave me the final scientifically concluded verdict of why the Tdub is desirable. Ready? Here's what they determined: IT'S MORE FUN TO GO FAST ON A SLOW BIKE THAN SLOW ON A FAST BIKE.😉
You know, I agree with that fully! I have been telling quite a few people lately that the TW is so much fun because you can ride it to it's full potential and not feel like you are going to die! It's awesome!
That’s why I like my XT250 lol It’ll go 75 if the conditions are right....but it’s most fun kicking between 2nd and 3rd gear screaming down dirt roads. I felt like I was FLYING last weekend coming out of turns going up a mountain. I looked down and the speedo said 50. I laughed my ass off 😂
Big fan of both the xt and the tw. One thing I wanted to point out. If you’re coming from smaller displacement dirt bikes. I road a yz125 for many years for example, neither one of these bikes have as much hp or torque as the yz125. So you definitely don’t need to worry about going from a 2 stroke 125cc dirt bike to a 4 stroke 200 or 250cc dual sport. Dirt bike engines are very high strung for performance. Dual sport engines are designed to last a long time.
Very good point there! Thanks for bringing that up. Yeah, these aren't high power anything but that is one reason I really love the TW, low end torque and just a good ol' machine.
At 73 and 275 pounds I need a strong ,but nimble bike that take me into the dirt safely, and the TW fits the bill. My enduro and trials days are over, but I still love the fun of going where my cruiser cannot and do it knowing I will make home home before my wife sends out the Mounties. TW all the way, love the Yamaha reliability and simplicity, You don't need a 450 or 500 dirt beast to enjoy the woods. The bike is light enough to get out of trouble I can put myself in.
Great video! My wife and I debated on this quite awhile on which bike to get for her. We ended up with the XT, and that thing is an absolute pleasure to ride. As always, every bike like this needs a 6th gear to better allow re-gearing. But I've still ridden the XT in some fairly challenging single track, you just never get out of first gear. For light commuting (no highway) I absolutely love putting around on the XT. The fueling is, well, exquisite. Zero gaps or lags in the rev range. And the bike is just so amazingly approachable. I don't understand why these aren't the bikes of choice for motorcycle training courses. I really really wanted to choose the TW. It's just so damned neat. Plus it's a very kindred spirit with my Yamaha Big Bear atv--dead simple, end-of-the-world reliable, almost comically capable of climbing. I ended up letting logic win out--fuel injection is a winner. And tire selection is an absolutely important thing on a dual-sport. Finally--I wanted to be able to strap this bike to the back of my motorhome. The XT fits a carrier much better, doesn't require custom wheel chocks, and handles the elevation changes. I absolutely don't understand why most motorcycle salesmen tend to push people away from the XT--I'm a big cheerleader for them. Of course I wish it was 300cc in the same size bike. And that there was a 6th gear. But I really hope that when Yamaha decides to make this into a smaller Tenere, they don't add 4" of suspension travel and 80 lbs. That's not what this bike is.
Thanks for taking the time to watch! I really appreciate your insight on the XT. I was pretty impressed with what I saw spec wise and I seriously couldn't figure out why they had two of them just sitting there. I went in two weeks later to pick up my new TW and was happy to see that one was gone and the other had a sold tag on the handlebars. I had a friend of mine ask me why I didn't get the XT over the TW (he is a Yamaha Technician) and he told me the benefits of the XT. The TW's simplicity, durability, proven track record and let's admit it, cool looks, are the reason I bought Two TW's and will have them forever. But, if I had the money, I would buy an XT as well. Thanks again for taking the time to comment! Here's to many more happy miles ahead!
Wow my cousin had a big bear when my dad got a tw ani drove it that's exactly what I thought too. It feels like a 2wheeled big bear only with a clutch and a little less grunt off the line but riding it in the woods the tw feels more like an atv than motorcycle. Can't wait for mine to arrive at the dealer
Nice! Congrats on the new bike. I ride a Harley as well and I think I've drawn more questions and random conversations with the TW than I have the Harley.
Both of them are ridiculous amounts of fun to ride and both engines are as "bullet proof" as you can get. Whenever I ride to Moab, I always see a pack of Tdub riders. Those 200s can definitely hold their own. Rode my buddy's XT250 down PCH (aka route 1) from Huntington Beach to Dana Point & back and is a great "sight seeing" bike.
Nice!! I have seen pictures of folks riding the Tdubs in Moab but I haven't had mine there yet. I would love to ride the PCH on a motorcycle. I have gone from Huntington up to Santa Cruz but it was in a car........gotta get out there on a motorcycle. Thanks for chiming in, I appreciate it!
@@MOBStreet83 whether you ride PCH on a Tdub or XT, you're on the coastline and you can take in the sights better on a smaller bike. Enjoy my friend and ride safe!
Both are excellent bikes. I decided the TW is for me. I did a lot of motorcycle research to find what would fit my riding needs so I am comfortable with that choice. My poor wife listened to my process this whole time. She is wonderful.
I have owned both. The XT comes out on top at every level: fuel injection, larger fuel tank, digital speedometer, larger engine, 0-ring chain, same seat height, better brakes, narrow tires track better, and I am getting over 100 mpg with my XT. The TW gets about 80-85. Both are very fun to drive.
I'd keep my TW-200 since trading out for the XT250 at this point would cost more money that the gains are worth. Since I am 5'10 and weigh 265 lbs, the T-Dub's wide seat makes it more comfortable for longer rides. The fat tires don't make ruts in my yard and grab sand well. I have had more fun on the T-Dub than any other motorcycle I've tried. Riding fast is not as important as just getting there and enjoying the ride as I go, so the slowness of the T-Dub is not an issue. If I need to go across the continent on long distance vacation trips with some off road riding, the BMW R1150GS ADV is the one I ride. Options are nice. The only thing I could say would beat out the T-Dub for trails is a ROKON, but those are ungodly expensive. T-Dubs are reliable and pretty inexpensive for what you get.
Yeah, I didn't end up with the XT....I bought another TW. I love the Tdub and like you, speed isn't an issue. The Tdub versus the Rokon would be interesting, but like you stated, the price really makes the TW a very reasonable bike. Still, I would love to see them side by side.
I think the XT250 would have been more popular if they kept the 6 speed transmission that the XT225 had. It also gained weight looking at the specs, almost 40 lbs. XT250 291 wet, Xt225 238 dry. Add the 16 lbs for the fuel and it still comes in at 254. I am keeping my XT225 running. When I got the itch for a new bike, I went with a Suzuki DR650. Nothing new in the 250 class bikes had any improvements over the XT225 that I already have. Sure fuel injection is nice, but carbs go for years without problems. The weight gain was my real issue for a trail bike. I want less weight.
That all makes perfect sense.....I think I am fan of the DRZ400 myself. I just don't know that I would use it to it full potential. That is what I love about the Tdub as well, you can ride it to it's full potential and not feel like you're gonna kill yourself.
@@MOBStreet83 I had a DRZ400. I was uncomfortable with the high seat height. Last year I looked for a TW to keep the XT company and could not find one.
Well, you could say that. But, I will run my TW200 with the CRF300L. These TW's have shown that they are pretty dang reliable since 1987. This video wasn't to say which other bike is better, it was simply to say out of these two machines that only have a $500 difference in price, what do you get for that $500 and is it worth taking that over the TW.
You need to do more comparison video's but just make sure to compare everything to the tw200. "Check out this new blender, but I still like my TW and its fat tires"
My dad got us bikes for Christmas back in 98. I got the yamaha rt 100 and he got the TW. He rode it some, but said it didn't have the highway power he wanted. It sat in the shed for about 6 years untouched. My bike was sold and gone. I asked him once in a while if i could ride it since he never did and finally he let me. It was a fun ride. He ended up trading it for a boat motor he never got running about 10 years ago. When i go home to visit i still see it riding around.
Thanks for a great introduction to the new XT250, Matt. I trust the Yamaha brand any time, anywhere, so on the subject of which one to get I'd say both. The TW200 is and always will be better in loose soil and sand, it's a given thanks to its fat tires. The XT250 would perform much better on the open range and on harder soil, it should also feel more nimble in rocky areas and when moving or dodging sideways. Its slimmer tires allow for higher speeds and better stability at higher speeds, also the fact it has a larger motor makes travel more pleasant. So which one you want for the day, well, that depends on the day.
I have a 2021 TW. First bike I have ever owned and basically the only bike I have ever ridden in my 51 years. This is important because all my side by side pals that I ride with are amazed at where the TW will go and MY riding skills. My “riding skills” are not high enough to be considered NOOB-WORTHY, so this shows just how easy a TW is to ride and how it can deceive others into thinking you know what you are doing. Super beginners bike.
That's awesome!! I'd be telling all your side by side buddies that your TW cost 1/3 of the price of their machines and how much fun they could have and save money at the same time!
@@MOBStreet83 I get the feeling there's a lot of country boys and girls here... don't hate me, but I'm definately a city guy... who wants to be able to GO COUNTRY when I need to! Something like the XT would be more for me. I'm also currently dirt poor (& thanking God I own my home). I was hoping to find something like an XT for less than $1,000 to start, but even used ones up to 20yrs old are starting at 3K! Can you help me out with advice? I've tried Ebay and craigslist! --J
I owned a 1980 and 1981 XT250, great bike then and I imagine them to be a great bike now. Great video thank you for your time. Stay safe and take care.
Nice!! Those would be sweet to show what they were then to what they are now. Thanks for taking the time to watch and to share your comment, I appreciate it.
I’ve owned both and they’re two entirely different experiences for two entirely different jobs. Of course there’s a ton of overlap of what each “can” do compared to the other. But this is like the debate of truck vs suv, etc. Comes down to your intended purpose for the bikes! The 250 is more versatile and traditional, the 200 is a great ranch bike or exploring the area after you pull it out of your pickup kind of bike.
Well said! I did this comparison because I went into the dealer and saw two XT's but there is a waiting list on the Tdub. So I dug further into the XT and found it to be a pretty capable machine and found it weird that those were there and not flying out the door like the TW.
@@MOBStreet83 bro when I went to buy my TW in Asheville I walked in and they had no TWs and 2 XTs I’d already been on the Yamaha website and RUclips looking at the difference so I went ahead and bought the TW. Turns out I have to do more road riding than I thought so the XT was better for me. If I ever move back to Northwest Florida, though, I’ll probably sell it and get an TW. The XT isn’t really set up for sand like that 😂 I think the most important thing for a new rider in my situation is to get a light bike and get on it.
@@xfallofmanx - Not sure if you'll see this, 9 months later, but I am looking for an off-road capable trail bike for northern Michigan, where it is also quite sandy. Are the fatter tires on the TW200 better for those conditions?
@@jasonbroom7147 I'm not exactly a pro but yes that's what the sales guys told me. He said that if I had told him I was planning on doing a lot of riding where I'm from in NW Florida (with a lot of sand) he'd recommend the fatter tires of the TW. As it stood I was planning on riding on gravel mountain roads so the XT was what he suggested. Honestly, I'm a couple of years into it now and I'd suggest you get what's available. The XT is great if you're planning by on riding to the trails as it sits a little more comfortably at 55-60. Hope it helps.
I have a DR200 and a TW200. I got the DR200 over the XT only because the shop had a practically perfect older DR200 that they wanted to unload and out the door it was less than $2,000. The Tdub was given to me by a good friend who had left it to sit for several years outside, but it was an easy process to restore it. The difference between how the skinny tires ride vs. the fat tires of the Tdub can't really fully be explained. The DR200, like the XT250, basically rides like any other dirtbike, while the Tdub floats up and over stuff. Anytime I want to cruise further and with better suspension, I go with the DR200, but I have way more fun on the Tdub.
Man, I need to find some friends like yours! I love my TW and understand the tire thing.......That's why my other bike is a Harley Davidson FatBoy........Or since I have a Harley Davidson FatBoy maybe that's why my other bike is a TW........Either way, both bikes I own are fat tired motorcycles!
Both of these bikes are an excellent value for what you are getting. The TW200 is definitely superior to the XT250 for off road riding because of its lower gears and larger mud and snow tires. However, if you like riding the roads a bit more, then the XT250 would be the superior bike. So the only question is: What will the bike be used for most of the time? They are both very sweet machines in their own way. It can be a difficult decision sometimes. My experience has been that Yamaha makes very good machines at competitive prices in every category. They are very reliable.
I think you make some great points in your comment! Both are good machines and I think most of it all falls on personal preference and what the intended use of the bike is. Still, I bought another TW so.......yep, that's what I choose!
Old school here. Function and utility arcs good price point. Don’t care for tech = distractions (watch people glued to their phones) Looking at both bikes this gave me the info to make my decision.
Hey Steven! I'm with you. That is one of my favorite parts about the TW is the simplicity of it all. I have bought two of them now and haven't regretted it once! Thanks for watching and best of luck getting one.
I rented one for a day on Aruba. LOVED IT. I own an FJR1300 at home, so about the total opposite. I loved the sheer fun factor of the fat tires, and the traction was shockingly high on sand, gravel dirt AND ASPHALT. I couldn't believe how confidently I could lean that TW on the roads. I partly want one so my wife and daughter can learn to ride, I partly want one to take it to the Oregon coast sand dunes, and I might even take it to the little cart track here in town! But mostly I just want to ride out of town, find some dirt roads and get lost on one. For the entire day, it put a smile on my face. I think I even loved the carburetor more than I would FI. I thought about "do I need more power than this?" I don't think I do. The connection of those tires is really something to experience. Hands down, the HAPPIEST bike I've ever ridden.
They are totally worth it! I just bought another one on Saturday. Yesterday my wife and I rode all over town for an hour just cruising around. They are fun bikes for sure!
Living in a small town in Montana with plenty of trails so close by it's the TW for me as I dont run too much paved roads and being 60+ the days of knee scraping my VFR500 are gone , putting fire roads to fishing spots are where it's at
The ol' Interceptor!!! Those were sweet machines in their time and now they have a vintage factor going for them! I'm with you though, we have so many trails within a mile from home that the TW sees more seat time than the Harley does right now. Fire roads to Fishing spots sounds like a great time. Thanks for watching and for the taking the time to comment, I appreciate it!
It is a great bike for sure. For the price difference between the two I feel like you are getting much more than the $500 difference. I'd really like to get them both out on the trail, road, mud, etc to do a side by side comparison. I'm still a fan of the TW though! Thanks for taking the time to watch and to comment, I really appreciate it!
I've owned both at the same time and I still could not decide what was "better". They are both great for different reasons. If I could have the extra 50cc's and the extra gear in the TW from the XT then there would be no doubt that the TW would be better.
That's good to know! I would love to get my hands on an XT250 and mess around with both! Dear Yamaha, please blend these two and make a lot more folks happy!
We bought both. If the Tdub was fuel injected....it would be harder to choose. I ride the XT and her the TW. Both are great machines. I like the better road speed of the XT to get to the trails.
Nice! I am kinda glad the TW isn't fuel injected, it adds to the simplicity of the bike which is where part of the appeal is for me. Thanks for the insight though, it is cool to hear from someone that has both! I appreciate it!
I'd take the TW200 any day. Its fat tires give it its exclusive properties to be that great little terrain-crawler, almost as a monster truck. The XT250 is just a regular commuting bike with some offroad capability, shared with several other similar bikes in that category, it's not even properly dirtbike speced or enduro capable. Still it is a nice and easy bike to have fun with, I'm comparing it with my Kawasaki KLX230 and the Honda CRF250.
Yeah, I think the XT250 is more along the lines of our KLX230S ABS bikes than it is the TW for sure! But, you are right Tomas, it is still a great bike to have some fun with!
I love my TW. I owned a XT250, it is a great bike and is way better on payment than the TW. But I sold the XT and I wish I still had it. But three bikes was a bit much for me to keep. I have a CB500X too.
Nice! Three bikes........I have my Harley, the TW, 2 XR80's and a CRF50 for the kiddos, oh and the GoKart! I think I want like 10 TW's though, I want to build so many different kinds of them.
Matt, great video as always man!, keep up the quality work & very well done. The only thing I may add is the XT has a low fuel light indicator when you are low on fuel. I like the TW 200 still as you just reach down and flip the petcock to reserve and you are still good to go..... all in all, will come to lifestyle requirements and motorcycle preference, both are great motorcycles... But I have to say... I agree, there is nothing out there that comes close to the " smiles per miles ", the TW 200 is in a class of it's own
Hey Jason, thanks for taking the time to sit down and watch! I am glad you liked it, I had some fun making this one! I did notice that while I was going over the bike that it had the fuel light. My TW is just like my Harley, when it starts to chug just flip the petcock and start looking for a gas station! That's my low fuel light! Smiles per miles sums it up well! Thanks again!
I have friends that own both, I thought I was sold on the TW, but the XT overall handles better and is just the better bike of the two. But the TW looks more fun. Either way, can’t go wrong. It’s about what puts a smile on your face when you take off on your moto.
I was on a waiting list for a month for a 2021. My father in law is still on a waiting list for one. They are selling as fast as they are listed here as well. The XT is a great bike! I didn't see any reason not to buy one other than the fact that I liked the look of the TW more!
The xt250 is underrated. So well-built and well tuned. Compared to my kawasaki, yamaha has figured out small bike fuel injection perfectly. Perfect throttle response and smooth idle. What it lacks in bells and whistles, it more than makes up in build quality. Now i love my tw200, but want to add an xt to the stable (again).
TW has a much better look IMO than the XT. However, the XT has a lot going for it in as much as the fuel injection and front and rear disc brakes. I was considering these two a while back but decided to go a different direction. If I were to choose between the two.....TW
I chose TW as well and ordered a 2021! I am not the biggest fan of fuel injection just because of ease of maintenance. If the battery dies I can still start the bike with the bump start.
Good idea!! I don't think it is a bad way to go! If you get one, I might have to ride my TW down there to Texas and try that "Perfect Burger" you make on your "How to make the Perfect Burger" video! That looked fricken' tasty!
Mine was a debate back and forth of the TW and the CRF250L. The Tdub won out! I'm interested in the CRF300L too! Maybe I'll see if I can get my hands on one and do a rundown with it!
I know your comparison is a year old. I have had a TW and It was a tank . Point the front tire and it goes up no problem. So I was looking at the XT for a bike to carry on my Sprinter as a exploring tool. Well I spent 2 weeks comparing and I ended up passing on both a getting the WR250R and I am sure I made the right decision. I’m 6’ and 230 with a 34/35 inseam so the taller WR was my choice. I still like the TW with the disk brakes. Enjoy Yamaha they make great bikes. Around Bend Oregon out!
There you go! My buddy rides the WR250 all over the place and it is a great machine! It's a bit too tall for me but I agree it is a great machine. Good Choice!
Great comparison of physicals. Yami makes bike for each niche of the market (mostly). TW for low, slow trails where wide tire performance will help. its not a great commuter bike as semi will practically beat you off the line and it tops out at 55 which can be down right scary in some situations (tuning/upgrades help). If you want to run rugged terrain and enjoy the scenery at a slow pace on a comfortable confidence inspiring bike TW is it. XT is a entry level enduro/adventure bike for budget/maintenance conscious riders. it's great for commuting, gravel roads, light trails but to maintain stability on the narrower tires you have to increase speed (for newer riders) which will soak up the suspension quickly so i didn't feel it was as enjoyable on rough terrain. You could definitely have a great all around build that could function for full day or multiday trips for under $7k which is awesome. In the end, its all about fit for purpose and rider preference style. This video was great for helping riders understand the differences between the two bikes.
That pretty much sums it all up right there! Purpose and Preference! Thanks for taking the time to watch and for the comment! I had a 2021 TW on order while I was making this video and now it is here. I love the TW and know what and why I bought it and it has filled everything I have wanted it for so far. I think they are both great bikes, but the TW won out for me! Thanks again!
Been debating dr200 vs xt vs tw for about 2 months. Enjoyed your videos along with tdubskid. Put my deposit down on the tw yesterday. I should have it in approx 3 weeks. Thanks for the entertaining and informative videos. Definitely helped me decide.
Sweet!! I'm glad I could help! I put a deposit down on a new Tdub as well! Mine should be here within two weeks (I hope that is the case!_ Thanks for watching, I really appreciate it and best of luck with the new Tdub!!
Fred, I’ve been in the exact same debate and cannot figure out which one to get. I love the bigger tires on the TW, but like some of the other upgrades on the XT. How did you decide between the 3?
@@jennaehoving1621 I researched the 3 of them to death. I like the looks of the TW and it seems to fit my riding style / area. Forestry roads, some light / medium trails, and 45-55 mph roads in Pennsylvania. Decades of production and low tech means less to break and easier / cheaper repairs. Also, I sat on the DR200 and the XT. They look and feel more like dirt bikes, real skinny tires and narrow seat. I couldn't find a TW200 anywhere. Even when I was on vacation in Tenn the dealerships were sold out. Kentucky and West Virginia same story. So I figured I would preorder one once I got back to PA so at least I could sit on one. If I didn't like it I would buy the XT. When got back, I went to the Yamaha dealership in Altoona. I had to wait for the salesman / manager to get there. While waiting two of the mechanics came out and both were TW fans. All this plus the fact that TWs sell out instantly while DRs and XTs can be found tells me the TW is something special. BTW mine was supposed to be in last week it wasn't. I called the dealership and they ensured me it will be in this week. From what I have found each dealership gets 2 every 2 or 3 months. So April or June may be the earliest.
Been waiting for that company to come out with a TW in a larger engine size (400 to 650) for quite some time now.... I don’t think the company understands what the fans want.... almost as bad as Jeep waiting decades to put out another truck, but even they figured it out....
Well, I know you're not alone in this! I don't know why they haven't ever updated it with those things, but I think that is one of the reasons it is so popular. Simple design that still allows fun!
That is too big. The tw is already heavy for it's size, and it would not fit the frame, force changing the geometry. Also that kind of power would cause more jumping and other higher speed activity that would max out the suspension. It just isn't designed for that purpose. A 300 would be enough. It would give a bit higher speed and more power on the hills. It has almost made it up everything I have been willing to try it on.
Yes me too! Might be a little heavier but as long as it still has a lower seat you should still have good control for tight trails. My dads about to buy a tw and I want to talk him out of it because its going to be a slow bike
@@dylsky100 It isn't a mx or race bike, but it gets you where you are going most of the time. You will struggle with steep hills, particularly if they have loose rocks because you will lose momentum and the TW doesn't have reserve power to make up for it. However it is very comfortable to ride, and generally has better traction. The low height makes for a more natural feeling turn. For someone who hasn't ridden for years and won't be a super aggressive rider its a great bike. Plus even if a year from now he wants something else, the resale on them is excellent.
Thanks for taking the time to watch! A 350 would be pretty interesting! I'd have to go through and remake all my videos. The places I have struggled with the 200 I might be able to do well with a 350!
the only thing i hate about fuel injection machines is, on a carb if you get a new exhaust you change the jets and tune it yourself, fuel injection you either get the program to do it or have a dealer do it
Very True!! Depending on what bike you get you can get an aftermarket fuel tuner for the EFT bikes which a few companies make, go back to the dealership like you said, if your state allows modifications to the exhaust and intake and fuel mapping........or just keep it stock.
I'm debating selling my tw for a xt. I found your friends video last night. I love my tw but since I dont own any "alpacas" and sold our cows is it still a necessity? I feel the extra speed of the xt will help me use my bike more as a commuter. Plus id love to have fuel injection.
Ha Ha Ha!! That was awesome!! I don't have any Alpacas left and I still have the TW and it is still worth it! But, like you stated earlier, the XT might be a better option for you. If you do though, let me know about those new items you haven't installed yet!
I owned a TW for a couple years and loved it, but I always had my eye on an XT. I ended up going to street bikes, but do miss it terribly. If today I walked into a dealer with cash in my hand to get a TW or XT, I’d still rack my brain trying to decide. The XT is better in some ways, but damn I loved the TW. The commuting point you made is a valid one though. It’s the ,son reason I sold mine as I life far from trails and had much more use commuting on a freeway to work or riding on highways out of town. Good luck deciding. Sounds like an excellent choice either way.
I walked in for a TW and walked out with an XT250. It was my first bike. A year later I’m glad I did. It pushes me down the highway at 75 with no problem but is light and low enough that I can float down gravel mountain roads. Honestly, it makes me feel better than I probably am. It’s a forgiving bike. Also, the fuel injection is nice. If you’re ever on the blue ridge parkway and see a tan XT with a tan dry box riding back and forth around Mount Mitchell, that’s me 😂
Thanks for taking the time to watch, I really appreciate it! I like the XT and from what I can see on paper, it looks like a great machine for only small portion more than the TW. Do you use your bike for your homesteading channel?
I actually own one of each. My daughter was riding the TW200. I bought the XT250 so we could ride together. Now she's got a baby on the way and her riding days are over, despite what she says. So I need to sell one. I'm selling the XT250. I like it, but there's something oddly endearing about that little fat-tire putt-putt. And I'm 6'3" tall. I don't care. I'll make the TW work. I can't bring myself to sell it. Air the tires down and just tractor around. The XT250 is a nice machine.....emphasis on "machine." The TW is like a pet. A pug, perhaps. Or a pot-belly pig. Not especially practical or useful, but cute and it tries hard to please.
I think I'd sell the XT also. The character of the TW is unlike any other bike! It's like the Harley Davidson Fat Boy of the dirt/enduro/adventure bike world! I have a HD Fat Boy....kindred spirits!
I would love to kit both of them out to do just that. I know that I am working on the long distance for my TW. I will post those videos when it is done!
You should do more comparison videos. Great info detail that you dive into with these, I would love to see what you can do comparing all the dual sports against each other.
Nice comparison! Would like to have both, but the XT is better in nearly every regard. I’ve owned an XT225 and an XT350. The XT350 was the best bike I’ve owned. The 250 and 200 are both underpowered. Yamaha needs a 350 in the XT. Still low seat height, light weight and can easily do highway speeds to the trails without revving out.
Thank you! I appreciate your input on this as well. I would love to get my hands on an XT350 and add it to the stable of bikes. I would love to see a new XT350! I was really happy to find that the seat on the XT wasn't way taller than the TW. Thanks again!
tw200 you didn't say how the tw can go very slow in the woods i dont know how the xt does but all the other bike i have tried can not go as slow and smooth
You're right, I didn't mention that! I actually have a video that shows just how easy it is to "tractor" the Tdub through the woods! Now with the 52t rear sprocket it does it even better!
Thanks, I appreciate it! The BW is a sweet machine also! Disc's front and rear would be nice, but it's still a blast to ride. I just bought an LED taillight and headlight for my 2021 and they are awesome! Thanks for the comment!
I'm a new rider with a short inseam and I'm torn between these two. I want the t dub just for its sheer audacity to exist and be unapologetic about poorly doing everything, any and all things. I want the xt250 because it seems more off-road nimble and road practical. It's like picking a fav between your cousin Nathaniel whose reserved but got his shit together or your cousin Darrell who doesn't give a fk and likes to party
That is an awesome way to look at it!! 😂😂 The TW is very capable off road and handles really well. This is the video I did on that ruclips.net/video/mQVnJQqSKY8/видео.html I have taken it all over the place. The XT is more road friendly with the gearing and dual disc setup. I don't think you'd regret either, but the TW takes my vote all day long. I am short, 5'6" with a 30" inseam and both of the seat heights on these are great.
Good Call! I am a huge fan of the Black and Red color scheme of the 1989 model myself. That would be cool if Yamaha did a survey of the favorite color scheme and brought it back for the 40th anniversary!
I would try the TW200! I had a 1989 XT350 and loved it, but in the mountains where I would use it, its extremely rocky, and believe the bigger tires would help with that. I use a atv on the tree farm I help at, but having something like this would let me leave right from my house and ride to where we are working vs having to park my truck, get the atv (which is finicky) started, then head up.
I'm a big fan of the TW. I worked on tree farm back in the day and a TW would've been awesome to have. I've ridden in plenty of rocky terrain and it's been good so far!
If an ATV could go there so may the TW200. Just pull over when 3 or more following traffic are at your rear. Assume you can speed over anything until proven otherwise.
Great video Mr mobstreet. I think the Yamaha tw200 looks so much better then the xt250. Personally I think the xt is a bit on the ugly side. I dont like the design of the gas tank on the xt. That's what turned me off of the xt. I almost bought the Yamaha xt250 last year then I discovered the tw200. I was new to the motorcycle thing so I didn't know the who, what ,where, about motorcycle makes or models. One thing I did know is that I loved the look of the Yamaha tw200 when I saw it for the first time. I bought it in November of 2020. I Couldn't be happier with my new 2021 tw200. I recommend it a lot if it fits your needs and wants. It does for me. Keep up the great vids Mr.
Thank You! I agree, the TW does look a lot better than the XT! I'm glad you're liking the TW, I have been more than happy with mine! I still haven't seen the 2021 in person, but I have one on order!
XT250 is my choice. TW200 seems to possess necessary functionality, but my heart tells XT250. I have a 2005 Yamaha FJR 1300, she has only little over 1,5000 miles due to my military carrier including deployments. I didn't have chance to ride her much, but I will have to let of her due to my medical condition, I can't take the weight of her. I may downgrade to smaller size bike like a XT250. Thanks for review on these two bikes.
Hey Bob! The XT250 is a great machine. I am sorry to hear that you can't cruise the FJR anymore. That is a great machine as well! The XT has a very loyal following as well and it is pretty solid. I just really liked the simplicity of the TW and the looks over the XT so that is what I have gone with. Get and XT and enjoy it! Thanks for watching and for the comment. Thank you for your military service and all the best!
WOOOAH!!! $500 for 53cc more and FUEL INJECTION!!!! WOW! Fuel injection is an EXPENSIVE upgrade! To see that it is only $500 more for the XT even if it is 53cc's more (metal) than the TW, that pretty AWESOME! BUT... B - U - T - - - Being in the 29"- inseam club keeps me hugging the TDUB. The difference in seat hight (XT 31.9" vs TW 31.1") is a .8th of an inch difference... That's only 3.18 mm of a difference! Do you know how many 10mm sockets I've lost! How often do you ever use your 3-4-5mm sockets?!?!?!? OK, well that seat hight comparison I was trying to "WIN" for the TW200 just went out the window... I was going to say, "KISS did wear some cool 8" boots on stage!" Hmmm Hmmm Hmmm... HA! Yea, right! > IT'S TDUB ALL DAY ALL NIGHT!!! < The TW200 is a moto-subculture all into itself, all by itself!
Do it! They are both great machines and for the price difference I think a lot of it falls to personal preference. I like the TW more myself and I have been very happy with it since I bought it!
I've been debating this issue just the same. I sat on a XT250 and loved it, while no TW200's were in stock. My issue was I wanted something to ride on the street and do some distance and two up and neither of these bikes really offer that. So, because of that I went with the KTM 390 Adventure and I have some 50/50 tires on order. Do, I still want these bikes, absolutely, but wanting an adventure includes moto camping beyond my county and these just don't offer that realistically. If you factor this in and I got my KTM 390 for $5,700 the XT250 isn't as great a deal. 45 HP motor liquid cooled, two up riding w/grab handles, pannier options, LED lights, slipper clutch, quick shifter, blue tooth display for navigation, traction control, anti-lock brakes and awesome styling. Did, I originally want a KTM390, NO but the package deal is just offers alot for the least amount of money. Why not to buy the TW200, its outdated, needs fuel injection, needs a sixth gear and likely they should just make it a 250 and ditch the XT all together. If I can get a TW200 second hand for a good price I will snatch one up.
I wanted a 390 but for every good review I found ten people having several issues. It's a sweet bike but I dont want to have all the issues. I have a tw and I'm looking into a xt since the tw just cant do 65 as I'd like it to. I think the xt will do better plus it has the disc brakes and fuel injection. If ktm would get the 390 to run longer without issues I'll get one.
Okay, I might sound like an idiot right now, but here goes......I Love the KTM sport bikes but that was about it. Oh, and the 690 Duke, oh and the SuperDuke........But that was about it. I love the simplicity of the TW. No Frills, no gimmicks, just the mechanical function of the bike. But, when you share all those options for that price, I can see the logic in your choice!
@@YAMAHATDUBCLUB I installed a milk crate to hold a 2 gallon gas tank the other day.......I've got plans to visit Diesel Brothers here in Utah but it'll be like 210 mile trip
There's one big difference in these though... that XT can't go some of the places the TW will. The super FAT tires make a HUGE difference in deep sand. Take the XT on the beach and it'll bog down and fall over. We ride in a lot of sand here in AZ and most skinny tires just don't work. The whole reason we're getting a pair of dubs is because of the fatties on it!
I need some more experience in the sand then......cause my time in the sand on the Tdub wasn't the best. 😂😂😂 This is my video of the sand dunes. ruclips.net/video/h5S0aw17uas/видео.html
@@MOBStreet83 I'm probably close to a foot taller than you so it's possible I am cheating since my feet can touch the ground and still be several feet apart.
I bought a TW 200 a couple of years ago. Put on many miles including a lot of short distance commuting. I like the TW, but if I were to do it again today I would definitely buy the XT instead.
@@MOBStreet83 Street ability and suspension mostly. The TW is quite bouncy thanks to the fat tires and limited suspension travel. When cornering, (on street) the TW has a twitchy, less stable feel about it. I will say in its defense, It still has a fun vibe to it. Great in the sand, easy to handle in semi technical trail riding (bottoms out on skid plate and peg mounts on large rocks), it’s a good climber ( especially with a 55t rear sprocket) are a couple of other good notes. I have an XR650L that it can in no way compete with for more serious rides, but some how, the TW can still hold its place around here. I have no plans to move it along and gets many more miles as fast and fun commuter alternative for short distances. But then again, the XT would be generally better still.
Yamaha would gladly do this but government rules and regulations found in various countries around the world regarding emissions and testing make the process time consuming and cost prohibitive regarding return of investment with existing vehicles. It's worse with automobiles and here's a perfect example. GM seriously looked at offering a fuel injected 454 as a high performance upgrade over the 350 in their 1989 Police Package Cheverolet Caprice model. The 454 would come straight out of their existing half ton pickup. To be able to do this following all government rules and regulations meant they would have to emission and crash test at their own expense. Due just a couple thousand vehicles manufactured with this engine at most it would have been a $12,000 option to cover their costs plus add in some profit. Engineers loved it and the bean counters killed it. They built only one prototype.
I've also heard it explained that way and it made total sense. I am not smart enough though to remember that and have that as an answer so I appreciate the comment on here.
Hey Doug! They are both great bikes and it kinda depends on what you want to do. I am partial to the TW and it hasn't let me down yet. The only thing I haven't been able to do is cruise at highway speeds with it. But, that is what I have my other motorcycle for. The TW gets used for dang near everything.
For slow cruising the TW is awesome. It is lower geared than the XT and is great for going slow. They are both great, but I am happy with the TW. I actually had another TW on order while I made this video! I have a few other videos of just cruising around on the bike. Bought another one: ruclips.net/video/0rop3Xrsiy8/видео.html Cruising Around: ruclips.net/video/LCM5QEnF9hA/видео.html
Man, I wanted to take off on that XT to see what it was like. I had another TW on order in this video and now have ridden both all over the place. The XT looks like a great machine on paper and I really want to see what it will do out in everything. I'll keep looking for one to do a side by side riding comparison with. Thanks for the comment!
The TW has the convenient height for a short guy like me and the fat tires gives it a rugged look. It looks much more muscular than the XT. I really dig the way it looks standing out like a beast above them all.
Good Call! I love the TW and ended up buying another one right after this video finished! They are a great bike and good time for sure. Thanks for watching, I appreciate it!
Hey Matt, last spring I was convinced I wanted a TW. I looked but couldn't find one within 100 miles of me so I bought an Xt from a dealership owned by a friend of mine. used it to commute to work and trail ride with my wife and son all last season. loved the xt for that and I had one of the best summers I've had in a long time. that being said my incredible summer left me wanting some longer adventures. took the xt for a couple of 80 mile round trips that left my inner thighs burning from the xt's narrow waistline. I'm built a lot like you so seat height and overall durability are big on my list. I'm thinking of trying a klr or t7 to meet my needs for longer rides. for around town and short commutes i love my xt and can't see ever getting rid of it. wish I could have ridden the tw to compare.
Hey Merton, thanks for taking the time to watch and to comment, I appreciate it! I am glad you were able to get a bike and make some good memories, I have been doing a lot of that with the TW! I don't have anything against the XT and like I said, on paper it looks like an excellent option! As far as the KLR or T7 goes, have you watched any of Rocky Mountain ATV's adventure videos? Those guys put loads of miles on KLR's and beat the living tar out them. They have a new series that just came out where one of the riders is on the T7 as they go through Idaho. I haven't finished it yet, but that T7 sounds awesome!! I am stoked that you enjoy the XT, if you are ever out here in my neck of the woods hit me up and I'll let you cruise around on the TW! All the best!
Thank you for making this video! Very helpful! Im going with the XT. I just sold my street bikes and dirt bikes and I just want one universal bike to ride down to the store and on the ranch, throw in the back of the truck for trips and have a good smile.😀 I think I will buy that rack for it and an LED headlight and call it good.
Hey Chris! I am glad you liked the video, thanks for watching! The XT is a great machine and I think it'll be perfect for what you wanna do. That Cycleracks rear rack is an excellent add-on. I would love to buy one myself and have them both. Thanks again!
I would go for the TW200 just for the tires alone. The TX is like any other bike buy one of those but would have the TW for certain type of riding. If you ride in a lot of sand the TW is a "must"
I chose the XT250 and purchased more aggressive tires , a skid plate, and a Seat Concepts seat. I wanted something with FUEL INJECTION so I could hall it in my van without having to smell gas fumes and I wanted a little more speed on the highway than the TW. I'm happy with the choice I made. When I purchased my XT, there were NONE to be found at the dealers! I jumped on a new 2017 a Yamaha dealer picked up at an auction and posted on Facebook. I went first thing when they opened with money in hand and while I was looking it over, someone called and wanted to put a deposit on it over the phone, sight unseen. Or atleast that is what I was told after I purchased it that morning. They don't last long around here.
Interesting! I can understand the fuel thing, I have spots on my truck or trailer every now and then when hauling the bike. I posted this to facebook as well and someone else sent me a picture with two on another showroom floor. I don't know too much about the XT but like I stated in the video, I think they are an excellent option if you aren't sold on the TW..........But I am sold on the TW. 😀
@@MOBStreet83 I actually want a TW for sandy/rocky terrain. I may end up owning both. Either a TW or perhaps a 4-wheeler. The upside to a TW over a 4-wheeler is that you can ride the TW on most roads that you can ride a licensed vehicle on.
Yeah David, these would be awesome. I love the TW200 and I take it all over the place. I've toured with it and gone all over all sorts of terrain with it. Great bikes!
Hey Joseph! Those are both great reasons to look at the XT. It is a great bike for sure and I am not trying to take anything away from it at all. I think it is a good choice.
Why the fuel injection? Just an honest question. The TW (on paper) gets better mileage. I haven't had any issues with starting it in the cold, yet. Plus, if your battery is dead how are you gonna get your bike to start? This is an honest question, I'm not bashing fuel injection I would just like to know why on this over the carb.
Haha I know...I’m on my 3rd TW and love the bike.... Every time I sell it I miss it so much that I have to get another. I’ve got the 2015 model at the moment and will never sell it. Paired with a big commuter it’s perfect as a town runabout and off-road explorer fun bike...I’m with you man absolutely adore this little workhorse...!
Sweet! How do you like that XT250? From what I have seen on paper I think it would be a pretty good bike to have in the stable. I just can't get over the TW though........
@@MOBStreet83 Seat height is not much taller, than the TW200, however the suspension travel on the XT250 is definitely far superior, but it takes a toll on the bike at hwy speeds, making it somewhat unstable, you do get accustomed to it after a while, it feels more sketchy than it actually is. The TW 200 struggles on the hwy, especially in the wind or inclines to maintain a higher speed, but stability is considerably better, with a lower ground clearance and center of gravity. They both are great bikes, with slightly different purposes.... Sand trails on the TW 200 is fantastic, on the xt 250 it's suicide unless you pull every drop of skill out of your ass, to keep the bike upright😂.... I live in central Alberta Canada, a diverse range of trails and terrain, my xt works for me because I don't weight much, and is the smallest bike my club, most other guys ride the DR650s, or DRZ400s, a few Honda 650s and 500s ect. They loose me on the hwy getting to the trails, but once we leave the tarmac, on right on their tails.
WHATS THE TOP SPEED ON THE TW BRO?
Here's my video on the TW Top Speed!! ruclips.net/video/WA0wFqEJtpg/видео.html

What would I choose? A TW 300 with a 4 gallon fuel tank and rear disk brake. Come on, Yamaha, you can do it!
I think that bike would fit your RUclips name quite well! It pretty much is the Honey Badger of motorcycles right now!
"I'll buy that for a dollar"
🤗🤗🤗 NO KIDDING !!! 🤗🤗🤗
“.... for only $500 more you get a much better bike in all aspects.”
Me: I don’t care, I want fat tires.
Likewise, that's why I ordered a new 2021 TW!

🤣 Awesome!! I hope it stays a great bike for you! I would love to have one of my own someday!
I own both. The TW is a beast and for climbing walls 😂, the XT is for light commuting and trails. Once again thanks for the Vids Mobb👍
😂Understood!! Thanks for taking the time to chime in!
i salute you- i also have an XT and i traded my DRZ400 straight up for a TDub- my garage has never been happier
@@lucaspeden3727 That's awesome! My Tfub and my Harley FatBoy get along quite well, the Tdub is a FatBoy in its own sense!
Thanks for the info
I am trying to decide between these two bikes. I have a sportbike and want a versatile dual sport. What to do...
You are right. The tires available for the TW are horrible off road
My motorcycle training course did have a fleet of tw200s
@@JumpingWatermelons Front Death Wing, perhaps, nothing wrong with the rear tire...
Recently bought the TW200 and it’s a great bike, draws lots of attention, bikers with bigger motorcycles give me thumbs up when they see me.
Nice! Congrats on the new bike. I ride a Harley as well and I think I've drawn more questions and random conversations with the TW than I have the Harley.
I just think the TW looks cool. Not in a hurry to get anywhere, just want to be able to get to anywhere. It’s the reliable bike no matter what
Nailed it!! Everything you mentioned is spot on.
@@Sanguine_Addiction Good Point!! Thank you, you as well!
Both are excellent bikes. I decided the TW is for me. I did a lot of motorcycle research to find what would fit my riding needs so I am comfortable with that choice. My poor wife listened to my process this whole time. She is wonderful.
Good choice! Has it shown up yet?
@@MOBStreet83 oh hell no. The Yamaha gods are moving slowly.
Interesting, thanks for the insight. Which do you find yourself riding more?
I am from nepal I have also old bike in tw 1998 how to learning to ingine please
@@MOBStreet83 After I got the XT I sold the TW.
@D Shande, quick question, I have a TW200 - how is the leg room on the XT vs the TW, is it better, same or more cramped? Thanks, Ronny
@@ronny-drz Very much the same. Both bikes are a joy to ride. Leg position is the same for both.
The TW is a bike with character, local dealership were out, plenty of KLX230's, so there you go.
That is true! Funny thing, there were some KLX's at the dealership as well when we were making this video! I was on a waiting list for aanother TW.
The 250 seems kind of like the great great grandson of the old 175 enduro that yamaha made back in the late 1970's
Could be for sure! I had a 1972 Yamaha RT2 360. They have a pretty good heritage to come from!
My dad had one of those 175s in the 70s. Great bike.
Get both. :)
When you account for sag on the XT seats are basically the same height.
I miss both of mine dearly but gave them to a couple as gifts.
Dang!! Someday I want to be able to be that generous and give away things like that, that is a life goal of mine.
The answer is the Honda CRF300L, you get a bigger engine which is liquid cooled and you get a six speed gearbox.
I can't wait to try a 300l. Gearspread looks nice... 1-4 close, 5th a lil taller and 6th the highway gear.
Great comparison vid! I grew up on a 1970 Honda trail 70 & just prefer the phat tire low & slow trail bikes.
My other bike is a Harley Davidson FatBoy.......Low and Slow!
@@MOBStreet83 LMAO. cant argue that!
You need to do more comparison video's but just make sure to compare everything to the tw200. "Check out this new blender, but I still like my TW and its fat tires"
Noted. Besides the blender, any other bikes you'd like to see go up against the TW?
@@MOBStreet83 KTM 1290 Super Adventure R vs. TW200
@@methamphetasaur just gotta find one and I'll do it!
Go and ask that person if they will sell it to you! Nothing like have your dads old bike, I should know, I have my dads Harley.
Thanks for watching and for the comment! I think that is a really good way to put it, which one, really depends on the day. Good Call!
Those tires on the TW make a huge difference, I’d go TW all day
I agree! I ordered another one right before I made this video.
@@MOBStreet83
I get the feeling there's a lot of country boys and girls here... don't hate me, but I'm definately a city guy... who wants to be able to GO COUNTRY when I need to!
@@MOBStreet83 bro when I went to buy my TW in Asheville I walked in and they had no TWs and 2 XTs
I’d already been on the Yamaha website and RUclips looking at the difference so I went ahead and bought the TW. Turns out I have to do more road riding than I thought so the XT was better for me. If I ever move back to Northwest Florida, though, I’ll probably sell it and get an TW. The XT isn’t really set up for sand like that 😂
I think the most important thing for a new rider in my situation is to get a light bike and get on it.
Don’t care for tech = distractions (watch people glued to their phones)
Looking at both bikes this gave me the info to make my decision.
Hey Steven! I'm with you. That is one of my favorite parts about the TW is the simplicity of it all. I have bought two of them now and haven't regretted it once! Thanks for watching and best of luck getting one.
tw 200 love the simple fact it is a carb easy to work on and fat tires. A 350 version would be sweet
It's been said that "Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication" and I agree! TW all the way.
Let me also say that mostly, I find dirt bikes/dual purpose bikes UGLY. The TW200 however makes ugly look sooooooo good. :)
They are totally worth it! I just bought another one on Saturday. Yesterday my wife and I rode all over town for an hour just cruising around. They are fun bikes for sure!
The looks are a favorite aspect of the bike! Dirt bike turned boxer!
@@MOBStreet83 500 Interceptor.....oh hell yes!
Great video! After it's all said and done, with FI and a bigger displacement engine, I'm
Still Pimping on the TW200!! Thanks for the review
Thanks for watching! I'm with you, still rocking the Tdub!
Serow for the win!
Three bike no problem...at height of my obsession I had 27! Whew!
Got 7 now..doing much better..
It's the tw 200 for me...Excellent camera quality guys
TW for me as well! Thanks for taking the time to watch, I appreciate it!
I agree that you can't go wrong with either bike. They are both a blast and I have loved my TW's!
I can’t find a tw200 around here. After watching this I Might go for the 250.
Hey Charley, I appreciate it! I would love to have the XT and I should have bought it instead of the KLX230S. That's why my KLX is for sale.
I'm leaning towards the XT250!
Good idea!! I don't think it is a bad way to go! If you get one, I might have to ride my TW down there to Texas and try that "Perfect Burger" you make on your "How to make the Perfect Burger" video! That looked fricken' tasty!
I love my 21 Tdub, but the next bike im getting isnt the XT250, its the CRF300L. Keeping the Tdub of course.
I grew up learning to ride on a 88' TW and so i might be a bit biased when i say it the best bike ever!
I think that should be called experience......not biased! I've ridden loads of motorcycles as well and I still love the TW!
Picked it up today. Love the 21 tdub
I love my old fat tire TW. Still a favorite in the muck and snow.
I hear you! The Tdub is one of my favorites for sure!
You'll have to head on over to the Kawasaki or Suzuki dealer.
TW200 good cruiser for eastern Sierras dirt roads as a camp host, saving for one still be 20 for a tank the way prices are going
When I get the chance to be a camp host, the TW will be with me for sure! Great for running around RV parks as well.
Very cool video! Thank you! A TW350 with rear disk brake would be a great addition to the Yamaha lineup! Carburator, of course!
Thanks for taking the time to watch! A 350 would be pretty interesting! I'd have to go through and remake all my videos. The places I have struggled with the 200 I might be able to do well with a 350!
@@MOBStreet83 - a new video will be even better!
the only thing i hate about fuel injection machines is, on a carb if you get a new exhaust you change the jets and tune it yourself, fuel injection you either get the program to do it or have a dealer do it
@@I_Santos_ My money went to the TW! I bought a 2021 to go with the one that I already had. I think I want a fleet of them......maybe 10......
Stay away from the Kawasaki 250s, absolutely underpowered and unimpressive.
If you’re ever on the blue ridge parkway and see a tan XT with a tan dry box riding back and forth around Mount Mitchell, that’s me 😂
Nice overview of both bikes. I love my XT250.
Did you sell it yet?🤔🤣
It would be cool to see videos of both bikes customized for long distance adventure, such as bigger fuel tank, tires, luggage racks.
I would love to kit both of them out to do just that. I know that I am working on the long distance for my TW. I will post those videos when it is done!
You juuuuuuuuuuuust about got me talked into getting a tw
Watch my other videos, that'll fully convince you!!
Best $500 you could spend would be to get the XT-250! Rear disc , fuel injection & 250 motor & it looks like a real bike. 🔥
A real motorcycle?!?
You should do more comparison videos. Great info detail that you dive into with these, I would love to see what you can do comparing all the dual sports against each other.
Well maybe we should get the WR and the KLX together and hash it out! I had fun making this one!
Nice review. I had a BW200 as a child. Loved that bike!! I agree the TW is the better bike. I wish the TW had a rear disc as well as LED's.
I wouldn't mind seeing the red tank with white fenders as a throwback
Good Call! I am a huge fan of the Black and Red color scheme of the 1989 model myself. That would be cool if Yamaha did a survey of the favorite color scheme and brought it back for the 40th anniversary!
And the ground clearence on the XT after you sat on it?
Well, a lot less than it would be if someone 100lbs lighter than me were on the bike.
Great comparison review, THANKS! One thing you might add is a comment on how the very different tires affect the ride experience.
Thanks Larry! I appreciate it. I will make sure to add that in the next video. Thank you for the advice!
We'd love to see a TW400 or so...
Yep, that is probably the most common comment I have seen on everything TW.
I would buy one if they did that, till then might pick up a xt250. But am leaning more to the cb500x.
Just pull over when 3 or more following traffic
are at your rear. Assume you can speed over
anything until proven otherwise.
I was going to say, "KISS did wear some cool 8" boots on stage!"
Hmmm Hmmm Hmmm... HA! Yea, right!
> IT'S TDUB ALL DAY ALL NIGHT!!! <
The TW200 is a moto-subculture all into itself, all by itself!
😂😂😂 That was awesome!! I'm happy to be part of the TW moto-subculture!
The xt 250 is definitely something I’m thinking about getting . Well maybe the 200 I have to check them both out tomorrow
Do it! They are both great machines and for the price difference I think a lot of it falls to personal preference. I like the TW more myself and I have been very happy with it since I bought it!
I want both! :)
I would like them both as well! But, I bought another TW instead. There are just so many different ways I want to build them!
You can always upgrade!
Aside from 2up, I have bagged a 3-day 448-mile motocamping trip on the TW200!
@@YAMAHATDUBCLUB I installed a milk crate to hold a 2 gallon gas tank the other day.......I've got plans to visit Diesel Brothers here in Utah but it'll be like 210 mile trip
I dont know about the new XT250s, but I know a guy who is still riding his 1982 XT250.
That's Awesome!!
What would draw you over to the XT over the TW?
Yamaha. Drop a a fuel injected engine in the tw with larger fuel tank. For Christ sake, it is 2021.
I'm torn. Both , I'm sure are very good. Bike shops don't give test rides. Never rode either. Would like to buy both
Hey Doug! They are both great bikes and it kinda depends on what you want to do. I am partial to the TW and it hasn't let me down yet. The only thing I haven't been able to do is cruise at highway speeds with it. But, that is what I have my other motorcycle for. The TW gets used for dang near everything.
Thanks. I too have a street bike for cruising. I ride slow for the most part nothing crazy.
For slow cruising the TW is awesome. It is lower geared than the XT and is great for going slow. They are both great, but I am happy with the TW. I actually had another TW on order while I made this video! I have a few other videos of just cruising around on the bike. Bought another one: ruclips.net/video/0rop3Xrsiy8/видео.html
Cruising Around: ruclips.net/video/LCM5QEnF9hA/видео.html
Good comparison. I was looking at both before I got my current bike. And would still like to own both one day.
Wise man say-You can never own too many motorcycles!
I choose the TW mainly cause of the fat tires, better handling on the road and gives the TW a weird unique look!
Those fatter tires give it a mean stance for sure and I love it!
That fat tire is something
Solid review guys. Now I want to go and test ridectge XT!
@@MOBStreet83 no doubt big-bruh 💯
The TW200 just looks so much sexier. The fact no on is able to keep them in stock is pretty telling.
Totally agree David!
Replace the seat on you XT with one from Corbin. It will help greatly.
@@MOBStreet83 Yes , Thanks. Im here in Colorado and there are a few xt250 online, but not as easy to find one as I had hoped. Have a great evening.
I would go for the TW200 just for the tires alone. The TX is like any other bike buy one of those but would have the TW for certain type of riding. If you ride in a lot of sand the TW is a "must"
I love those fat tires! Not only sand but that thing has traction all over the place.
I’d choose a TW250 with fuel injection, disc brakes, 15” rear, 17” front.
Those are interesting wheel sizes. Mind me asking why you'd choose those?
I like them both. I have 2 KLR650s that are hard for an old guy to ride on gravel and offroad, These look like they would handle well.
Yeah David, these would be awesome. I love the TW200 and I take it all over the place. I've toured with it and gone all over all sorts of terrain with it. Great bikes!
Iam actually looking get the xt250 for my first bike very soon..I just like that it's little better on highway an I live in city
Hey Joseph! Those are both great reasons to look at the XT. It is a great bike for sure and I am not trying to take anything away from it at all. I think it is a good choice.
Yamaha needs to put the WR250R engine In the TW frame . I'd gladly pay extra for that
YES! And fuel injection.
@@MOBStreet83 The WR has a very sweet engine, I have a 2011 I bought brand new it’s been 100% bulletproof but I do really like the TW!
I’d get the TW just because of its looks and that rear tyre!
If those are the only reasons, you won't be disappointed when you find out just how sweet the whole bike is!
Great information, Glad to see you have one on order finally :)
Surprise!! I thought you might like that!
Both,😉...... I've got a Yamaha 2012 XT250cc, it's fully outfitted with a rear rack, skid plate, and bark busters.
