    Everybody....heads up!!! At 1:12 when they're messing with the little grey colored tabs to remove the wires....DON'T REMOVE THE WIRES FROM THE COIL/BOOT, JUST LEAVE THEM!!!! I was being gentle with these grey tabs trying to get them off the first two broke, real easily! After those grey tabs are broke that wiring piece does not stay in place on the coil/boot like it should, it will slide loose fairly easily. (The wires slide on and off, they don't snap in place!) A big bump in the road could make it slide back, no joke! So what I did for the last two cylinders was this. Take the bolt out for the coil ONLY. Leave the wire attached! Just pull the coil/boot out with the wire attached, IT WILL COME ALL THE WAY OUT!! This will save you from breaking the tabs and having loose wiring connection.

    • @DrChim_Richels
      @DrChim_Richels 3 года назад +22

      Just did mine...agree that there is no need to remove the wires...just undo the bolts and pull the coils out from left to right. Put them back in from right to left.

    It's a good video on how to remove the plugs and check the gap on the old plugs. But nothing about putting them back in. Seems simple enough to do it in reverse like you say, but how tight should you tighten them ? Should you spray anything or wipe out anything down there before putting the new ones in ? How do you gap your new plugs without damaging them ? Looking through my manual I could not find anything about the proper gap, so I guess web searches and youtube are your only resource or calling your mechanic for free advice. Thanks for making the video !!

    You mentioned that "the engine developed a knock which is common for these engines." What did the "engine knock" sound or feel like? I have 2012 1.8L Elantra with 202k miles on it. I am just getting a little hesitation at idle and sometimes between 5th and 6th gear when under low push. I thought it was a transmission problem. But it does it sometimes in park and neutral too. So I think it is either fuel or spark or another. So what did this "engine knock" seem like. Mine still accelerates very strongly and idles fine most of the time. I'm just getting ready to change out the 202k mile old spark plugs. Thoughts?

    Where is cylinder number 1 located? I have a P0301 code which is misfire on the first cylinder so I want to check the first cylinder spark plug and replace all of them if needed. Let me know ASAP if you can

      Switch the coil from #1 with one of the other coils. See if the code changes to the cylinder you changed the coil to in which case the coil is bad from #1.

    When you are changing the spark plugs in the little clips fall to pieces what do you do? Everything went as planned put everything back together but now the car continues to die I do believe because the little clips busted when I was pulling the wires off

      There are some steering coupling vids on here, I just replaced mine too. It's better than paying $400 at dealer, part was only like $5.

    Hey guys, tried to change my spark plugs but my standard 5/8 socket doesn't seem to latch or grab on to the socket. Do I need a thin-walled socket? I've tried 2 different sockets now from Autozone and once I get them down in the well they just spin around-tried this on all my sockets with no luck. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

      They sell a socket with a rubber insert that grabs the spark plug, you could also use a long reach magnet to take them out. I suggest harbor freight for tools if you're a DIY. Also, invest in a spark plug install tool, makes life easy and you won't mess up the spark plug gap.

    I just changed my plugs on my 13 Elantra that had 65k miles and the plugs were bad. 7 year old plugs that's why I changed them before 100k. Also, you don't need to take the connectors off. Just take the 10mm screws out

    I don't recommend using a screwdriver on the clips, that's how you break them. Just use your fingers.

    I put NGK laser iridium in mine and my city mpg dropped from 26 average to 21. It idles ruff but accelerates smoother and faster

      Sounds like either one of your coils isn't fully seated over the spark plug, or the wire going to the top of the coil isn't fully clicked in.

    What type of spark plugs an Elantra 2012 uses ?

  • @gregmadison556
    @gregmadison556 8 месяцев назад

    I just paid $615 to change my spark plugs. $117 engine diagnostic, $231 labor and $221 for 4 spark plugs. I Googled it and those spark plugs cost $64 for 4.

    FYI: Spark Plug torque specs 15-22 lb-ft. Ya don't want to strip them out. Very bad.
