I have a 2016 Hyundai Elantra 6 speed manual. I've owned it since new and it has a 183000 miles and I have not experienced any of those issues. The only issue was the ac compressor went out at about 70000 miles and it was covered under warranty. I've done all the oil changes myself and primarily used mobile one full synthetic with Hyundai filters. Car still runs great and doesn't burn any oil at all.
There's a lady who has a 2013 Elantra and hit a million miles on hers without a rebuild to the engine. Her transmission though was replaced by a little over a half million miles. You can find that review on Google. I have a 2012 Elantra and I'm currently at 251,000 and some change. My 0nly issue was a crank sensor. Even at this point it doesn't burn or leak any oil and still no piston slap. I keep a record book on all my vehicles and equipment.
I've had my 2012 Elantra for about 6 years, has about 103,000 miles on it and it's been great. I've done all preventative maintenance items on time too. Only issue I've noticed is in the dead of winter, you have about a 10% chance of getting a slight grinding noise on a cold start (I'm talking if it's like 15 degrees Fahrenheit or colder outside after it's been sitting 12+ hours). That's been my only concern with the car so far, we'll see if it starts to cause problems or not. If it does, I'll probably get a Camry or something haha
That particular vehicle was used as a delivery vehicle. It had minimal cold starts and wasn't used much in stop and start traffic. It was also meticulously maintained. Almost any vehicle can reach a million miles under similar conditions and owned by someone who is willing to replace parts as they fail.
I have no problems with my 2014 elantra just a crank sensor i had to replace. At 160k now no major problems VERY reliable car. I always recommend to friends as one of my favorite cars that i owned.
I have a 2011 Elantra 270k kilometres on it. Very reliable and running perfectly. Seeing these videos would make you think all Hyundais are crap .. which isn’t the case
@Mysterious Master Yoshi the only reason to be concerned is if the prior owner(s) beat on the vehicle and/or was poor at maintainence. These cars WILL tell you when something is wrong. They do so quite well and they do so quite vocally. Which makes maintenance even easier. Elantras are essentially a Korean-made civic equivalent. Small, economy car, somewhat sporty, extremely reliable with a few outliers.
My 2011 Elantra has done 210Ks and has always run well. Started running rough the other day......replaced the ignition coils and it's running like new again. Great, reliable little car
138,000 miles on my 2013 Elantra. That tick is only on the cold start and disappears after 5 seconds . Unfortunately very common on Hyundai and Kia. However, my Elantra has been super reliable and has never had an issue other than regular maintenance. 10 years trouble free. Use Full Synthetic every 5000-6000 miles.Judging by the neglected front rims, that engine was probably neglected too.
I'm coming up on 200,000 on my 2012 and she's been great value for money. Have the piston ticking and steering click, but she's still going. Do my own synth oil changes at 6/7,000 and regular air filter swaps. Served me well.
Didn't need to change my steering coupler until about 195,000 miles, changed alternator at about 210,000 miles so. Had the clock spring changed at 200,000 miles, warranty item so no cost to me. Now at 310,000 mile I think I may need fuel pump changed. I've read that fuel pumps typically last 100,000 mike, a few last to 200,000 miles, no articles stated they last to 310,000 miles, so I'll call that good. Of course mine gets regular maintenance, all belts and hoses changed every 4 years, regardless of how good they may look, oil changes every 6k miles, plugs every 80,000 miles and coils only changed them once so far at about 225,000 miles.
This video should be called top 5 problems if you don’t maintain your car. My car has been working perfect & never had a issue & it’s close to 250k miles!
Thank you. I have had all of those problems on my 2013 Elantra, plus 3 more... trunk latch, driver air bag, and paint is just popping off. They did replace engine at 60, 000 miles. Engines made in Alabama had shaving contamination, while those made in Japan were fine. At 100,000 tune up, they some how fouled a plug and harness. Never again.
I own 2015 Hyundai Elantra it has 120, 000 miles on it. The car is with me about a year and half, and I quickly fall in love with car since the first day I got it. I didn't experience all issues that were mentioned on the video. The only thing what I noticed is the ticking noise in the morning, and it goes away as soon as the engine reaches to it normal operating temperature. It is great gas sever car!! My mechanic told me that few issues( mentioned on the video) exist from year 2011-2013. He gave me few tips,1/ Do not skip oil change2/ He recommends ticker oil like 10w-30 fully synthetic. Change transmission oil if it is old, and use original oil from the dealership. Also, for winter, the 50/50 coolant ratio must be done according to the manual. If the car was abused by previous owner, yes you might experience those issues. More importantly, service your car (any kind) on timely basis. So, about the video 5 problems🤔🤔??, not on me.
Never had a problem with my 2015 Elantra. Always replaced oil. Replaced tires. Currently at 142,529 miles. Only issue is the radio not properly connecting to my phone. I’m about to replace it to a touch screen soon. Love this car! Just regular maintenance. Had this car for over 5 years
2015 elantra 1.8 liter with 105k Miles. I've had absolutely Zero issues so far (Purchased it brand new, 5000 Mile synthetic oil changes) Car still runs like new. It does have the cold engine rattle but quiets down after 2-3 minutes. Every 1.8 liter i've heard sounds the exact same. They are noisy, but reliable and get great fuel mileage.
2015 Elantra Sport with the 2.0L. Mine has 164k on it now (original engine) and all the only big issue I have with it except for the EVAP leak, is the piston slap issue while it burns a quart every 250-300mi. Original clutch, no big repairs done to it except basic maintenance. I just keep topping off oil and changing it every 3k and car is happy.
I have a 2011 Elantra, from all these problems, I experience only one which is the steering wheel. The car is so reliable and runs perfectly although it's 220k on the clock
Thanks for this. I have a 2010 Hyundai Touring L. Use full synthetic oil every 6000 kms - 175,000 kms. Follow the manual i.e. new timing belt @ 100,000 kms etc. Love the car and no issues.
My wife has a 2013 Hyundai Elantra with over 200,000 miles on it. We have had none of those problems and its been a very reliable car. Nothing worse than routine oil changes, tires, brakes, windshield wipers, changing plugs and coil packs (once: 2 coil packs bad - why gamble on the other 2), transmission oil flush (once - likely needs it again soon), etc. A few factory recalls for relatively minor issues (the latest being changing the computer program so it's not so easy to steal).
mine has 163k miles and runs new. the only issue is a/c compressor was replaced 2x (it spent most of its life with me in Fl!) and it did have the steering issue which the dealer fixed for free. The steering is acting up a lil now again but not too noticeable. never leaves me stranded tho. She's been reliable and I take excellent care of Ellen the Elantra!
2011 Elentra 94K miles..Made in Korea. I made sure not to buy one from USA. No issues. I do all maintenance myself including Oil,Plugs,Filters,Brakes. Just replaced original plugs with same OEM NGK plugs ($17 each, wow alot of $$), but lasts 100k. Still runs as smooth as I bought it. Hopefully will continue to avoid all these reported issues.
+@Lindsaydunberry Thank you! We love empowering our customers and showing how to perform DIY auto repairs with our high-quality auto parts. 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
they are not all bad. It depends on the make and model year. I have a 2014 Elantra which has the least problems. I bought mine with 15k miles on it and now have 40k but i have had no problems. The same cant be said for my last 2 Honda's or my last 3 Nissan's. They all needed new brakes and exhaust repair by 35k miles but not my Elantra.
I have a 2016 1.8 110k. The trunk latch is the only thing that has ever gone out on me. It's beginning to get the old 4 cylinder shudders during idle load. Other than that it's terrific. I'll be replacing the fuel filter soon and other preventable maintenance. Only other issue with the car is it gets way to good of mpg 😃.
I have a 2013 with 239k on the odo. Only complaint is that it's the worst clutch I've ever had to deal with. It slips sometimes under heavy throttle at about 3500rpm, and is also a PITA to deal with when trying to feather it while stopped on an incline.
that sounds like a dream!!! i hope my new 22 elantra lasts that long!! please, if you have any advice on how to make the car last that long i would highly appreciate it :) thanks!
I haven’t had any of these issues on my 2012 elantra. The issues that I have are the tire sensor light (always on despite being properly inflated), and my biggest problem is dang light bulbs!!! My brake lights are constantly burning out. It’s gotten to the point that I carry spare bulbs in my car at all times knowing that if one light is out, they’ll all be out. It drives me crazy. I bought this car brand new & will drive it until it dies but yeah, won’t buy a Hyundai again
#6 torque coverter. When my car was 101k miles, my torque converter locked up, due to me not ever changing transmission fluid. and I had to replace it, and clean and rebuild the transmission. Other then that, my hyundai runs like a top. Maintanance is easy to do, and i will suggest running some lucas fuel injector cleaner in the gas, and run it wide open to keep the engine from carbon build up. 120,000 miles still runs great.
I got a '12 elantra with 131K miles had it for 8 months problems that I've had is my left brakelight and taillight is out and sometimes when I start it up the 1st time it won't start the 2nd time it will other times it won't start the 1st or 2nd time the 3rd time it will and when it does start up it ticks until the car reaches normal temp. when I'm driving at 5-10 mph it also ticks
I actually replaced the steering wheel coupling myself after the mechanic told me 200 dollars to replace a 2 dollar part. My car is a 2013 Elantra with 216,000 miles on it. I also replaced the alternator and battery twice. It has a parasitic draw that I haven't been able to trace. Other than that my car has been awesome.
@@dontbelieveeverythingyouhe5599 After watching ruclips.net/video/8Ga5q2c0vUE/видео.html it took me the good part of a day to get it done. I had never tackled anything like it before. If I can do it though, anyone can.
235,000 miles and going strong. Just started with the steering coupler slipping, so I need to fix that. Always had some valve noise from early on, but neither leaks nor burns any oil.
thank you so much for this feedback, i'm a new 22 elantra owner and i would love to hear any tips and tricks you have for the vehicle to last so long!!!! :) thank you
110k on my 16 Elantra. No problems. Only installed a new set of spark plugs and a battery.still runs smooth and quiet. Still averaging 52mpg on the freeway.
So is the alternator light issue, starting at 4:60, really indicating a bad alternator? Or were you saying that the light comes on, but the alternator usually is not broken?
Is it true that the Hyundai have factory problems in the transmission?. I had my first Hyundai Elantra 2016 and it lasted 4 years the transmission slipped and didn't work in D I had to use a 6 gear manual.
I have a 2014 1.8 and it is failing. Not drivable since it will fail to shift when warmed up. Has transmission pump whine which means the transmission is pretty much shot. Lasted 153k. I live in a hotter climate so that may be a reason behind the failure.
I have a 2013 Elantra. 66K miles. The gearshift lever sticks in park, or if you can get it out of park, it won't go into reverse. I've had it at the dealer 3 times. This week, for the 3rd time, the dealer did a diagnostic, and told me the main electrical harness has to be replaced. (nearly $6000). I feel fortunate to be able to view videos like this one generously giving us your hard won experience, even though the dysfunctional gearshift was not among your top five. You might want to add it next time if other people have complained about this issue. Thanks.
I have a 2013 Elantra with 202k. The car just lost acceleration and wouldn’t drive even with engine still running. When turned off it wouldn’t start again and alternator light, check engine light, oil light, and EPS light all on. I poured a tiny bit of gas in the intake and it started right up. So I replaced the fuel pump and it seemed to fix it with just the check engine light on now but fully functional. However 5 days later it started doing the same thing again. My code is reading Evap system pressure sensor/switch. I’m thinking it is the Evap sensor on top of the fuel pump as it popped off when I was installing but I pushed it back in. Maybe it’s loose or bad. I have a new fuel pump better quality I’m going to replace in the morning. However what is weird as well now is my 1 year old (3 year warranty) battery on the way home after dealing with the cut out and break down issue the battery is now hissing and seeping fluid. I had to get a new battery. Will be changing the fuel pump again with better quality one where the sensor wasn’t knocked off before and the battery. Am I on the right track? I already replaced the mass air flow and crankshaft sensors and that didn’t work. Could I also be dealing with a bad alternator regulator that overcharged my battery? Just seems like a weird timing coincidence that the battery nearly blew up while having this fuel pump issue. I guess after replacing this Evap sensor, fuel pump, and battery I can go have the alternator tested at autozone but I hear those tests can be inaccurate or not tell you if you have a bad regulator. If the alternator has the correct voltage does that mean the regulator is good?
I have a 2016 Elantra automatic with 328,000Km. Had piston slapping and Hyundai replaced engine at 220,00Km. I have replaced every wheel bearing (some 2x) , and 3 of 4 calipers as they seized. I have had to replace rear shocks early at 30,000Km. Replaced, lower ball joints, strut (L), and L front axel... Oh, and I have had to replace the cabin fan 2x as well, once under warranty by Hyundai and once again after with a used one i found. Lots of problems on this one i find.
on manual transmission ones the clutch master cylinder will fail , where the pedal connects to it. the clutch master has a plastic eyelet to accept the pedal and it ovals over time making the car progressively harder to put in gear. mine lasted 80,000miles
Mine is a 2013 manual with 88k miles. Only issue so far is the steering coupler that I still haven't gotten fixed. The Hyundai dealership wants $350 to replace it.
Awesome information, but like many other Hyundai Elantra owners the cars have rarely given them problems except for some basic maintenance parts that have had to be changed due to mileage or regular wear they are very good cars, but like many others some might have had their problems but overall a lot of them have given their owners problems 😊😊😊😊
My starter keeps on burning , spark plugs keep on going bad so the revs keep on swinging when in idle, front left side of the suspension keeps on snapping and coming up loose where I can feel every bump through the steering wheel I tried adding that rubber looking bearings that stay in the rod ends and lower ball joint. The gearbox feels like the gears take a while and you feel that weird slipping
I am so happy to have found your videos, I own a 2001 Dodge Dakota ( You have videos for) and we own a 2016 Hyundia Elentra (You have videos for), frankly I'll probably purchase vehicles you have videos for for here on out. I did Camper conversions to my Dakota from Lonewolf 902 with the Stove Truck and now I need to do a 100k maintenance before I headout with my daughter to visit some famous California camping spots. You're videos make it possible to be confident I wont be broken down in this old truck hahaha. Thank you for the videos and indept walkthrough of the things I can show a mechnic or attempt to do myself.
My 2015 hyundai elantra limited is misfiring after replacing coils and sparks but running into snags looking for a coil wire harness, what can you recommend?
I have a 2015 Hyundai Elantra i bought brand new and now has 53,301 KM. Been regular and always on time for servicing at the dealership. Has had 2 recalls so far. Recently I went for servicing and they said that it needs a gasket reseal at $4000 +! I'm very disappointed 😢. I'm thinking of buying a Toyota...had one before and had no issues!
2015 Elantra purchased new. I had one major issue with the VVT system, repaired and replaced under warranty. Dealership provided me a loaner from their used car lot of similar age or newer. Have 55,500 miles now. Because of bad roads I’m having my struts replaced today. Will be replacing it with a Hyundai Kona.
I had all the CEL stuff to do with the timing chain issues, but it ended up being the pistol slap to the point where it lost compression and wouldn't start. I wish I would have taken it to the dealer, but it was a secret warranty and never officially recalled by Hyundai except in Canada. I had thought the noise was the timing chain, not the piston issue. They are still covering 50 percent and I didn't pay much for the car, so I am getting a new engine
Only issue out of these 5 that I’ve had was the timing chain. But other than that. My RPM jumps even when the car is in park. Can you tell me what that is?
I have a 2013 with 105,000 miles on it and I’ve had only minor issues like battery replacement up until recently. My interior lights started flickering and when they stopped it caused all of my outside lights to stop working. So now I have To use only my high beams. No park lights, head lights, break lights and not even the third break light. But the interior still works. Someone told me to check the fuse. I hope that’s all it is. Oh and my ac isn’t working. When putting Freon in it, it doesn’t last. Not sure if it’s a leak or need a new compressor.
One more thing to add is if the front wheel bearings go, your only option is to press in a new bearing, ir replace the whole assymbly, theh dont offer a bearing spindle combo pre installed unless you buy the the whole knuckle which is quite expensive.
I have been having an issue of late with the electrical system in my 2012 Limited, there's a weird fluctuation that goes through the car while I am driving that causes warning lights to come on, the power steering to go out, basically all the electrical stuff. Pull over, shut it off, car won't crank. Alternator was cleared and battery is new. Any ideas?
Could be the crankshaft sensor, a common issue, as mine behaved like yours did, esp. at idle or near idle...I was able to replace mine by myself, depends on how handy you are. Part is pretty cheap, under 100 as I recall.
+Jazzinaut We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
I have a 2012 Elantra that I purchased used and the engine sputters on and off and sometimes the engine light comes on. I suspect it's a problem with the fuel system. Not sure. But, I'm ready to get rid of mine soon. I don't think that I'll buy another Hyundai. I heard they go out on you while you're driving and that can be dangerous.
My 2016 Hyundai Elantra made that sound when i took it to jiffy lube and oil depot, but when i change the oil myself i added oil in the oil filter then put it bake in added the oil and no more ticking 👏🏽
I have a 2011 hyundai elantra and i had a problem with the cranshift sensor fixed it car has trouble stsrting from a cold start and jerks of 4,000 rpm but no check engine light so cant figure out whats going on
+@haven2911 We wouldn't be able to diagnose an issue like that here, you may want to have a local mechanic take a look at it. Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
I have Elantra 2016 1.8L . Check engine light is on, scanned the code P0456 Evap . Could be fuel cap or purge valve . Checked both and they are fine. Small leak some where maybe !! Any other advice ?
I wanted to flush transmission fluid but couldn't find dip stick I called dealer they told me the dealership has to do it basically it's a maintenance-free transmission only requires flush at dealership no dipstick to check ✔️ fluid level I've got a 2013 Elantra GLS 1.8lt 4cyl
Currently going through that last situation right now where my alternator went out on me I’m at 198,000 miles so I’ve replaced a few things but for the most part it’s reliable
I have a 2011 elantra limited and I get randomly the dash lights will almost all come on and lose power steering and it goes into shifter lock. It won't show me the speedometer and the fuel level reading is all over the place. I've read it had to do with the brake light switch
I have a 2013 the only issue I've ever had just now that it hit 99k miles is the tire sensor light meaning the batteries died but that is still impressive that they lasted 10 years so technically that is not a real issue I luv the car I guess been lucky still orignial lead acid battery 🔋 10 years latter. Very reliable car I'd def buy another
2013 Elantra Coupe, G4NB 1.8L engine with Piston Slap Okay, here are my 5 cents. Bought the car with 54k miles (87k km) on it, with already developed Piston Slap and stuck timing chain Tensioner. Replaced the tensioner, the valve lifters, the mechanig did a honing on the cylinders in the short block. I also used metal-ceramic additives such as XADO with the hope to fill in the gaps in the cylinders - not a noticable difference. Well, I still hear it and I will drive like this until I rebore the short block and put oversized pistons 0.25 or 0.50 cm. The rebore itself would cost me $180 but I also have to buy new gasket kit and new oversized pistons. And to pay the mechanic to disassemble and assemble the engine. There are also new long blocks, around $1300, for sell in Alibaba/Aliexpress but seems too expensive with shipping, customs clearance and VAT. The car has 62k miles (100k km) now. Oil is Petronas 0w-40 full synthetic. I will probably change it with Ravenol 5w-40. Oil consumption is around 1,5L per 6200 miles (10k km). This video is very informative and I will definitely look for the rest of the problems and they seem easier to fix. Thanks!
I havent had any of those problems but 1. I had two recalls. 2. Tire pressure warning doesnt tell you which tire, so I have check every tire, 3. and then i have to drive about a quarter mile before the light goes off in order to know if I fixed the problem. 4. Some a-hole had the brilliant idea of making the oil dipstick the same color as engine oil, 5. They put the fuel filter under the back seat of the car, so you have to remove the seat to get to it. 6. There's a grinding sound and bumping when I press suddenly on the brakes
I’m on my second Hyundai and wouldn’t hesitate getting another. I sold my first one (2003 Tiburon) at 160k+ still running fine and bought my current one (2012 Elantra) new and it’s just now at a little over 150k starting to have an issue that needs to be looked into. The only other potential issue I may have had is with the electrical system. There hasn’t been an obvious problem or need for repair on my Elantra yet but every once in a while the electrical system seems like it might be a little wonky but, like I said, nothing big enough to even think about taking In. I also have a few family members and friends who have had Hyundais who loved them too. My brother had an 07 and went through brake lightbulbs really fast but that’s all.
using this car for 9 years , there is no issue at all unless you maintained it very well. Never trust any service centre , sometimes they loves to add problems , making money out of us. Very nice car , powerful, reliable.
Hitting 303,000 miles in my 2013 Elantra with no motor issues, and hoping to keep going strong. 💪🏾
I have a 2016 Hyundai Elantra 6 speed manual. I've owned it since new and it has a 183000 miles and I have not experienced any of those issues. The only issue was the ac compressor went out at about 70000 miles and it was covered under warranty. Same I handed down my elantra to my parents but my 2013 is still running with over 200,000. But I do agree there are some defective models out there.
You must be in a warmer climate. The engine problems usually happen because of winter cold starts.
I've had my 2012 Elantra for about 6 years, has about 103,000 miles on it and it's been great. I've done all preventative maintenance items on time too. I agree I had a 2013 Elantra and it was fantastic, in the 5 years I had it, only had to replace the starter

Year?
2013 but I didn’t mention that I’m a mechanic myself & follow the whole maintenance book so maybe that’s why 😅
Thank you. I have had all of those problems on my 2013 Elantra, plus 3 more... trunk latch, driver air bag, and paint is just popping off. They did replace engine at 60, 000 miles. Change transmission oil if it is old, and use original oil from the dealership. Also, for winter, the 50/50 coolant ratio must be done according to the manual. If the car was abused by previous owner, yes you might experience those issues. More importantly, service your car (any kind) on timely basis. So, about the video 5 problems🤔🤔??, not on me.
new 22 elantra owner here, thank you for your comment! would love to hear more tips and tricks on how to make the vehicle last :)
Good to hear about this a week after I just bought an Elantra.
I have a 2011 Elantra, from all these problems, I experience only one which is the steering wheel. The car is so reliable and runs perfectly although it's 220k on the clock
How did you fix the steering wheel ?

I just bought a 2012 Elantra Touring for a great price. Happy with it. The coupler thing isnt hard at all to do, mine seems fine.
2013 Hyundai Elantra 205,859 miles no issues at all . Love this car
I have a 2013 and the rubber gear in the steering column was such a hassle
2011 Elentra 94K miles..Made in Korea. I made sure not to buy one from USA. No issues. I do all maintenance myself including Oil,Plugs,Filters,Brakes. Just replaced original plugs with same OEM NGK plugs ($17 each, wow alot of $$), but lasts 100k. Still runs as smooth as I bought it. Hopefully will continue to avoid all these reported issues.
Hello from Maine Sue I happen to own a 2012 Hyundai Elantra GLS 1.8 4D Sedan it's been a great car I've had no major issues minor issues that's all.
It’s hit or miss tbh
First video I watched. I absolutely love you. Please keep going. You're so knowledgeable and easy to comprehend. Thank you!!

My 2013 Hyundai Elantra had 250K miles on it, original engine and transmission with no problem yet.
My 2013 had the piston slap but after the oil change it stopped currently at 165,000 and drives smooth and very reliable especially in the snow
Just picked up a 2013 Elantra today with similar kms, have you had any major issues at all?
Hyundai oil filter and valvoline VO148 makes engine smoother.
salut pouvez vous me dire quel huile utilisé vous merci
@@Antonio-ex3st No I have not drives fast smooth and very good during snow storms
they are not all bad.
What’s causing the alternator to fail?
And I’ll add.. I have never had any major issues. It’s be the greatest and most reliable car, I’ve of course kept up the maintenance well on it.
Hi i have 2012 Elantra ( Manual 6 speed ) with 20000 kms only problem was the steering gear easy fix Very happy with car
+Steve Maxwell Thanks for the feedback!
I have a 2013 with 239k on the odo. Only complaint is that it's the worst clutch I've ever had to deal with. It slips sometimes under heavy throttle at about 3500rpm, and is also a PITA to deal with when trying to feather it while stopped on an incline.
Over 290,000 K on my 2014 elantra 2.0 Nu GDI , I,ve had none of the problems mentioned in this video , its been super reliable
that sounds like a dream!!! i hope my new 22 elantra lasts that long!! please, if you have any advice on how to make the car last that long i would highly appreciate it :) thanks!
where was it made?
You must be in a warmer climate?
I have the same trim and the car’s engine is already dying at 150k with suspension issues every now and then..
Glad to see all the good feedback. Currently looking at a 2016.
I have a 2011 Elantra with 412000 KM and still running well!
How long did it take? A mechanic quoted me $500 today.
:) thank you
@@JahdielSaneo change the oil at least every 5000 miles! Honestly my only tip😃
@@markmorgan7450 I just hit 260 and that’s all I have had to do. I’m having some issues now but it’s to be suspected.
I Love my 2016 Elantra 😍 over 125k. Got it with 8m. Brand new in 2015.
Make the knocking/ piston slap hit like home bc my moms 2011 Elantra does the same thing on startup.
110k on my 16 Elantra. No problems. Only installed a new set of spark plugs and a battery.still runs smooth and quiet. Still averaging 52mpg on the freeway.
You just explained everything I needed to know. So what's up on the recall. Because my engine does that
So is the alternator light issue, starting at 4:60, really indicating a bad alternator? Or were you saying that the light comes on, but the alternator usually is not broken?
Is it true that the Hyundai have factory problems in the transmission?. I had my first Hyundai Elantra 2016 and it lasted 4 years the transmission slipped and didn't work in D I had to use a 6 gear manual.
YES!
I have a 2014 1.8 and it is failing. Not drivable since it will fail to shift when warmed up. Has transmission pump whine which means the transmission is pretty much shot. Lasted 153k. I live in a hotter climate so that may be a reason behind the failure.
I never knew about the rubber steering thing, very interesting. Great video
Happened to my Elantra and did replace that star rubbery thing which solved the issuem
@@Criticalthinker5 And what is the cost of replacement?
I have a 2013 Elantra. 66K miles. The gearshift lever sticks in park, or if you can get it out of park, it won't go into reverse. I've had it at the dealer 3 times. This week, for the 3rd time, the dealer did a diagnostic, and told me the main electrical harness has to be replaced. (nearly $6000). I feel fortunate to be able to view videos like this one generously giving us your hard won experience, even though the dysfunctional gearshift was not among your top five. You might want to add it next time if other people have complained about this issue. Thanks.
There is a release for this. Takes a couple minutes and no need for mechanic.
I have a 2013 that will not start with good battery/jumped too, as well as good/new starter. What is the correct way to troubleshoot? Thanks
If the timing chain sounds like it's starting to fail, does it matter if you wait until it does, or is it cheaper to fix the earlier you get to it?
I have a 2016 Elantra automatic with 328,000Km. Had piston slapping and Hyundai replaced engine at 220,00Km. I have replaced every wheel bearing (some 2x) , and 3 of 4 calipers as they seized. I have had to replace rear shocks early at 30,000Km. Replaced, lower ball joints, strut (L), and L front axel... Oh, and I have had to replace the cabin fan 2x as well, once under warranty by Hyundai and once again after with a used one i found. Lots of problems on this one i find.
How about the leaking roof's in the Elantrash GT ? Back of car is full of mold . Taillights also let water into the rear compartment
I have a 2013 Elantra gls Limited I love it and it has 196,000 miles and still runs and drives great..😁
on manual transmission ones the clutch master cylinder will fail , where the pedal connects to it. the clutch master has a plastic eyelet to accept the pedal and it ovals over time making the car progressively harder to put in gear. mine lasted 80,000miles
Mine is a 2013 manual with 88k miles. Only issue so far is the steering coupler that I still haven't gotten fixed. The Hyundai dealership wants $350 to replace it.
I had a 2016ni put 45k on in 6 months loved that car sooo much
I'm currently dealing the alternator/battery indicator issue. How do you correct it? I recently replaced both battery and alternator.
U might need new spark plugs. That’s what happened to me and when I replaced the spark plugs everything went back to normal and it’s fixed
Any advice on someone stuck with the doomed 2.4 litre Theta II engine? Not happy.
My key fob batteries have been replaced. The panic works, but the alarm doesn’t. Any advice on what it could be?
My starter keeps on burning , spark plugs keep on going bad so the revs keep on swinging when in idle, front left side of the suspension keeps on snapping and coming up loose where I can feel every bump through the steering wheel I tried adding that rubber looking bearings that stay in the rod ends and lower ball joint. The gearbox feels like the gears take a while and you feel that weird slipping
Wat was the fix for the alternator problem?
Is there a Hyundai accent with Elantra engine in existence,2015 year model?
I had all the CEL stuff to do with the timing chain issues, but it ended up being the pistol slap to the point where it lost compression and wouldn't start. I wish I would have taken it to the dealer, but it was a secret warranty and never officially recalled by Hyundai except in Canada. I had thought the noise was the timing chain, not the piston issue. They are still covering 50 percent and I didn't pay much for the car, so I am getting a new engine
#6 Clock spring
#7 Camshaft position sensor
I have a 2015 Elantra til this day. Never had any issues whatsoever.
@@nullstadt I had the same issue, crank position sensor fixed mine. It wasn't hard to replace, saved me some money.
My drive site seat warmer stopped working. Any help? It illuminates for a second or two then stops
Is anyone else’s 2013 painfully slow when you press on the gas? Absolutely no ‘get up’ to it at all. What could be the issue?

Yep true, I experienced all of this problem with my car, but this car was good, served me from 2012 until now
I have 2016 Elektra engine seized after service now the machanic guy is no longer picking my calls any suggestions or advice.
How about it struggling to start when its been raining. Eventually starts but sounds and smells flooded.

So... basically alternator just gone bad? Or that's some other problem on to it?
I have Elantra 2016 1.8L .
Check engine light is on, scanned the code P0456 Evap . Could be fuel cap or purge valve .
Checked both and they are fine.
Small leak some where maybe !!
Any other advice ?
Do you have the same video for 6th gen ? Thanks.
Currently going through that last situation right now where my alternator went out on me
I’m at 198,000 miles so I’ve replaced a few things but for the most part it’s reliable
I have a 2011 elantra limited and I get randomly the dash lights will almost all come on and lose power steering and it goes into shifter lock. It won't show me the speedometer and the fuel level reading is all over the place. I've read it had to do with the brake light switch
so the alternator just keep going out? annually? what is the cause of this?
Interior rear red light lens burn and melt?
I have a 2013 the only issue I've ever had just now that it hit 99k miles is the tire sensor light meaning the batteries died but that is still impressive that they lasted 10 years so technically that is not a real issue I luv the car I guess been lucky still orignial lead acid battery 🔋 10 years latter. Very reliable car I'd def buy another
whats is the reason for hyundia sonata the steering wheel always tilted at right side
I've had 4 out of 5 of these problems. Bought the car used and The timing chain was the first issue that I noticed.

2013 Elantra Coupe, G4NB 1.8L engine with Piston Slap
Okay, here are my 5 cents.
Thanks!
I havent had any of those problems but
1. I had two recalls.
2. Tire pressure warning doesnt tell you which tire, so I have check every tire,
3. and then i have to drive about a quarter mile before the light goes off in order to know if I fixed the problem.
4. Some a-hole had the brilliant idea of making the oil dipstick the same color as engine oil,
5. They put the fuel filter under the back seat of the car, so you have to remove the seat to get to it.
6. There's a grinding sound and bumping when I press suddenly on the brakes
Mine had piston slap, got a free "small block assembly" under warranty
How can we solve the problem if the alternator gose bad , few times in a year.
Can you do a video of 2017-2020 model?
