  • Doing a quick inspection on this swarm that I caught earlier this year. They are doing good they just need some room so they don't swarm on me. I will show you what you need to look for when doing hive inspections

    Morning, if the hive has a good laying queen why do they make drone cells if they dont do any work?

    • @dfishman76
      @dfishman76  3 года назад +1

    Interesting videos on the bees. I'm thinking about trying bees. Do you have to start with multiple hives or one will work? ✌

      Two is better for comparing and sharing resources

      @dfishman76  3 года назад +1

      Yes it’s better to have at least 2 that way you have options if one has issues

    When starting a new hive do you add a queen excluder between the first two levels or between the 2nd and 3rd ?

    • @dfishman76
      @dfishman76  3 года назад

      That’s your call in that. I don’t use them but so do. Most use them to keep the queen out of the honey supers

    My hive swarmed on July 1 and left 10 ish q-cells. When should I expect a new laying queen and when should I begin to worry about being queen-right? Thx

    • @ToddSalter

      Lots of factors come into play but the hive will swarm generally 3 to 4 days before a queen cells hatches. New queen needs 5 to 6 days to mature, a day or two for mating flights, and a day or two to process sperm from those flights. So 8 days at the absolute earliest but generally 15 to 18 days from hatching.

      @@ToddSalter Thx for the info, my first hive, and half my children ran away from home, ungrateful ingrates.
